Creating a moving parts photo puzzle
I would like to divide a photo into 9 square parts, take out one part, and be able to move the different parts of the photo around within a frame in order to create a puzzle. Is there a way to do this in INDesign?

CS3 - create a 3 part photo image from 1 photo
i want to create one photo in 3 parts for a verical visual effect on a wall.
using 3 separarate 8x10 frames, placed slightly apart to create the one image.
example: a waterfall in 3 parts, spaced accordingly on a wall.
any ideas? i tried the rectanglular marquee to select and print part of the image,
but the "print selected area" box is grayed out.Make three new blank files of the required size and resolution and paste the appropriate portions of the original into each file.
That way you'll have more control over the output. -
I created an album from photos taken off three different cameras. I am sorting the photos manually and when I close iPhoto, the photos move back either by date or by camera import time. How can I keep the photos from moving around?

The problem...
I'm trying to use photo's from Istockphoto.com. The size of
the photo's they offer are
425 x 282 px (5.9" x 3.9")
849 x 565 px (11.8" x 7.8")
1698 x 1131 px (5.7" x 3.8")
I'm selecting horizontal photo's. I do not know how to match
the same width, height and appearence as the websites I mentioned
above.
If I choose a photo that fits the width then the length is
too long. Also if I choose a large photo and have to crop it then
most of the detail of the photo is lost.
I'm attempting to create a mock-up for my web in Fireworks
CS3 and after search Adobe and www I came across the mock up should
be 1004px which would end up being 1024 with vertical scroll bar
and small margins.
I also have Photoshop & Flash CS3 but should mention (if
you haven't already guess it by now) I am a rookie when it comes to
creating a website.
So if you can offer a solution in "Non-Tech Terms" I would
appreciate it.

Moving my photos and PSE catalog to a new machine... and upgrading

I am seeking advice on the best way to do the following:
- move my photos from my current laptop to a new laptop
- recreate my current PSE catalog on the new machine
- do both of the above while also upgrading to PSE 11 on the new machine.
The last time I did this sort of action -- moved my photos to a new machine -- it was sheer bedlum. Hoping to avoid the pain this time.
Do I first need to move my photos to the new laptop -- recreating the exact smae file structure that I have today -- amd them export and import the PSE catalog? I want to repeserve the album structure and tagging that I have created.....
Any help/pointers appreciated.The recommended way to move to another computer with a new OS or PSE version is to use the built-in backup and restore function in PSE.
- Start with a clean catalog : reconnect missing files, repair, optimize. That's good practice even if it is not strictly necessary.
- Do a full backup on an external media (external USB drives are safe and affordable). If you have several catalogs, do as many backups. Warning ! each separate backup must be in its own separate folder.
- Now, you have installed your PSE version (possibly a newer version) on the new computer, you can do a restore from each catalog backup. That will restore the catalog and the picture files ; if you have checked the option to keep the folder tree structure, it will be kept.
The smart thing about this process is that not only everything is restored, but if you have upgraded to a newer PSE version, the catalog will be automatically converted to the newer version ; furthermore, you have a backup!

Edit:
This shows why a backup from the organizer is often a better solution than external backup solutions. Suppose your old computer crashes, you can restore to a new computer and newer PSE version easily. It's also a good way to update a secondary computer (a laptop for instance) to the same 'sync' than the master computer. -
I'm finally moving my photos from my PC to my MacBook Pro. I have 8 years worth of photos organized into very specific albums. Can I import the album structure directly into iPhoto or am I going to have to recreate everything in iPhoto?
If you want to duplicate your Folder Tree in iPhoto:
Start at the bottom of the hierarchy and drag a folder of images to the Album Heading in iPhoto. The pics will be imported and an Album of the same name created.
You can then create the Enclosing Folders in the iPhoto Window (File -> New Folder) and drag the Album to it. Folders can contain other Folders (Nested Folders) and Albums.
However, is your folder system date based? Then this form of organisation is a bit pointless in iPhoto when Smart Albums or the Calendar tool (Click on the wee magnifying glass in the Search Box) mean you can find the photos taken on any day, month or year at a click. With Smart Albums it's easy to find photos from specific range - say, June 3 to August 25, 2009 etc.
If your folder system is theme based - Xmas pics, Birthday pics etc, then you'll find Keywords are much more flexible, and can be used in conjunction with other criteria for making Smart Albums and searches. -
Can I create an event in Photos
I am using the Beta Photos. Can I create new events using Photos? If not, is there an equivalent? All the events I had in IPhoto are there but I have not been able to create a new event.
The Events in the Photos sidebar are just Albums created from those events when the conversion to Photos was made. You can create new albums by selecting the photos and using the File ➙ New Album menu option:
The new album will appear just above the Flagged smart album. It can be moved into the folder titled iPhoto Events if you want or wherever else under Album you'd like to have it. -
My storage is mostly full of a category labeled "other." I'm out of memory to the extent that it won't even allow me to update apps. I have moved all photos over to my computer and my music streams through the cloud. Any advice on how to fix this problem?

Is it possible to create a DVD of photos from iPhoto that will play on a television?
Yes. You'll need a video DVD authoring application like iDVD and an external optical drive. I suggest a 3rd party optical drive as the Apple Superdrive is limited to USB 2 which has rather slow through put. Get one with USB 3 or FW.
Export a slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar. For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p. Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Or open iDVD, select a theme, create a slideshow in iDVD and add the photos from iPhoto via the Media Browser in iDVD.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com. Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides themes from iDVD 5-7. The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
There are simpler (in features) video DVD authoring applications available from the App Store. -
SharePoint 2013 and IE 11 issue - While creating a Web Part Page and Editing Web Part Properties
I tried to edit a Web Part in SharePoint 2013 using IE 11 but I did not see the Edit Eeb Part dropdown menu at the top-right corner of the web part. Then I tried to create a Web Part page and I get the following error.
Cannot create a Web Part Page with the current browser. Browsers that support the creation of Web Part Pages include Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or later, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or later, and Apple Safari 3.0 or later
Strange !!! My web browser is IE 11.
I tried the above two tasks in Google Chrome and worked fine.
Solution:
I added the site url to local intranet zone in IE 11 and I am now able to add Web Part Page and Edit Web Part in IE 11.

Help me very urgent !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go into iTunes, select the name of your iphone on the list on the left hand side of iTunes, looks right above the picture of your iphone and you'll see summary info apps etc. go all the way to the right and you'll see photos, check mark the box to sync photos and chose the folder where you imported the photos to your computer from.

Using export slide show from iphoto, I am trying to create a DVD of photos and vid clips in large format. The vid clips do not work using burn software. Any idea?
Have used large format, but using the 'burn' software, I am not getting seamless video quality on DVD even though I am burning at 2* speed. Any ideas? Do I need better software? Or is there a problem with the SuperDrive?

We use a doc template to create a purchased part spec document and then save them as pdf formatted files. These part spec documents are also appended with the datasheets for these purchased parts. When we want to update/revise the document, is there a method, using Acrobat, to make those updates to the pdf, or must we go back to the doc template and basically generate a new document?
Also, our resulting pdf documents aren't searchable. How can we generate pdf documents that are searchable? I may want to search for a part value or name within the body of these pdf documents, but currently can't do that...very inconvenient.
Can you assist?Not totally sure about the search issue. A lot depends on how you created the PDF and what is in the datasheets you attached (like are they graphics?). The doc portion should be searchable as long as you used print to the Adobe PDF printer or PDF Maker. For your use, it may be that the print is adequate. However, the result should be searchable (unless maybe you had a form with filled in fields and created the PDF with PDF Maker. I think the form data may be retained in form fields and the fields are not searchable. In that case, a print might be a better procedure. (it would help to know the versions of WORD and Acrobat as well as the exact process you used to create the PDF.)
If the appended data sheets do not change, then you might try opening the original PDF and then using Replace Pages to replace the file created from the DOC file. -
