Creating a new web server instance using script

Hi
We have to create 10 instances of sun one 6.1 web server again and again. Creating them from GUI and deleting them after testing is going to be a time consuming process. Is there a way to copy an existing instance with the help of some command line tool or shell script (If we know what enteries should be there in each configuration file). Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Anoop

6.1 unfortunately does not provide a way to create instances through command line tool. With 7.0 (soon to be released as Beta in the coming weeks) will have a full fledged command line tool for all server administration tasks
meanwhile, as a temporary work around one could do the following within a shell or perl script.
[ this approach is totally not supported by Sun. You are on your own ]
1. cd INSTALL_ROOT
2. copy https-HOSTNAME to https-test (/bin/cp -Rf https-HOSTNAME https-TEST) - assuming TEST is the new instance name that you want to create.
3. use a script to edit the following files and replace 'https-HOSTNAME' to https-TEST in all occurrences.
list of files to change:
start , stop , reconfig , restart , rotate
config/magnus.conf
config/server.xml
4. finally, you can use 'HttpServerAdmin' to change the listener port, security settings etc
./bin/https/bin/HttpServerAdmin -h
http://docs.sun.com/source/819-0130/agcmdln.html
for eg ( i would do something like this )
(to create instance https-TEST from default server instance, assuming you do not have special ACL file configured in the default instance, I would do something like )
use a perl script to copy https-HOSTNAME to https-TEST
(/bin/cp -Rf https-HOSTNAME https-TEST)
/bin/cp httpacl/generated.http-HOSTNAME.acl httpacl/generated.http-TEST.acl
cd https-TEST
replace https-HOSTNAME to https-TEST in following files (start, stop, restart, reconfig, rotate, config/magnus.conf, config/server.xml)
cd ..
now delete the listener socket id
./bin/https-TEST/bin/HttpServerAdmin delete -l -id ls1 -sinst https-TEST -d INSTALL_ROOT (where you server is installed)
followed by create a new listener socket id
./bin/https-TEST/bin/HttpServerAdmin create -l -id ls1 -ip ANY -port NEW_PORT -sname HOSTNAME -defaultvs https-TEST -sinst https-TEST -d INSTALL_ROOT
[ similarly, you can perform other server admin tasks using this command' ]

  • Error when creating a new Reports Server instance

    Hi,
    I have tried to create and start a new reports server instance using the following method:

    5- Starting the OPMN again:

    Any ideas as to why the reports server instance cannot be started?
    I have tried rebooting the server many times and have recreated other reports server instances but with no luck.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Chris

    On Windows this is caused most often by the temporary directory setting.
    Change the temporary directory to some fixed directory writable by anybody, e.g. "C:\temp".
    Change this in:
    Registry entry: hkey_local_machine\software\oracle\key_<oashome>\REPORTS_TMP
    <oashome>\opmn\conf\opmn.xml: search for environment variable TEMP (under ias-instance)
    Good luck!

  • Auto-install a new web server instance

    Hi, i'm attempting to install a Sun ONE Web Server on my workstation as part of a tutorial for Sun Identity and Acess Management Servers.
    Within the tutorial it is stated that this web server is completely seperate from the web server within the Identity Server, and simply involves running an auto-install script called "install-webserver.sh".
    Each time i attempt to run this script I am recieving a "bad interpreter: Permission denied" error message.
    The line !/bin/sh is at the top of my file and yet this error is still occuring. The file was ftp'd from my windows NT directory across to my Unix directory "/export/home/opt/SUNWam/bin", and it is in this directory that I am attempting to run this scrpt.
    So, does this sound in any way familiar to anyone?? I can provide you with the script if necessary.
    Kind regards,
    Stephen

  • Creating a new Web Intelligence document using OpenDocument (requires an existing document?)

    We use the OpenDocument interface to embed the Web Intelligence viewer in our web application.  One of the problems we're having is that the code appears to require a valid document ID, even if all you want to do is create a new document (passing the noDocument=true flag, so that the application opens with no document at all).
    I've tried various permutations of the following, with no success, always getting this error message (An error occurred: Could not find the document)
    E.g:
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&iDocID=...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&iDocID=-1...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&iDocID=0...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&sDocName=...
    http://bo-server:8080/BOE/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?noDocument=true&sDocName=new...
    It appears the only way to get OpenDocument to allow you to do this is to use an existing WebI document ID.  That is to say you can't create a new document unless you already have an existing document to include in the call to the JSP.
    This limitation appears to be artificial and only on the OpenDocument interface -- You can create new documents in Launchpad without having an already existing document to point to.  Documenting the workaround for this, having people installing the product first make a webi and save it, then configuring it so it has read-only permissions (so it doesn't accidentally get deleted), then configuring our application to lookup the ID isn't the most elegant of experiences.
    I was wondering if anyone had run into this before and/or if anyone at SAP could look into it?  I'm hoping it's an easy limitation/bug to fix.
    This limitation affects 4.1 SP4 and probably older versions of the OpenDocument interface.  See also:

  • Oracle 10g - Creating a new Application Server using standalone OC4J 10g

    I have some issues in creating a new app. server using standalone oc4j 10g 10.1.3 instance. After I created the app. server instance, I tested the connection and it says connection refused. I used the userid as oc4jadmin and the password as welcome. I am getting a message connection refused. For connection, I used the default hostname "localhost" and I didn't mention anything in the URL path.

    Thanks Steve..
    Here is what I am trying to do.. I want to create a new app server instance (i.e.) stand alone oc4j server, where I can deploy my web service and run a test.

  • Create a new web application, how shall I update the file server.xml

    Hi,
    I will create a new web application, i.e named newApp. Then I create a file structure as follows:
    - <server-root>/newApp
    - <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF
    - <server-root>/newApp/WEB-INF/classes
    Then I must tell the server that I have created a new web application. Then I must update my file server.xml, How shall I do this and where in the file shall I type in the new information?
    I use windows XP Pro, and Tomcat 4.1.27.
    My server.xml file looks like below:

    If set to -1 sessions will not be backed up, 0 means they
    should be backed up shortly after being used.
    To clear sessions from the Store, set maxActiveSessions, maxIdleSwap,

    To use servlets u have indeed to update your web.xml...Well I'm not sure this is relevant to your case anyway.
    You have to add a <servlet> element to this file.
    Something like this:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>blabla</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>blablapackage.Blablaclass</servlet-class>
    <init-param>...</init-param>
    </servlet>
    Now this may not solve your problem. Make sure you refer to your servlets using their full qualified names.btw, just to be sure, what is your definition of "servlet"? (i mean: any java class or only javax.servlet.Servlet)

  • Creating a new work item instance in a process using PAPI

    I'm seeing that there are a lot of questions on this forum about using Oracle BPM 10g's Java API called PAPI.
    I just uploaded a step by step document on how you could do this using JDeveloper 11. Here's the link to this document: http://www.4shared.com/file/126507332/e814a3a8/CallingPapi.html. The Oracle BPM project I used for this step-by-step document is also in this zip file. If you're curious, this also describes how to download, install and start JDeveloper 11.
    This is not formal Oracle documentation, but I know from teaching our Oracle BPM Bootcamp class that getting PAPI to work is sometimes a challenge and thought this might help. I tried to write it with the "Java Newbie" in mind so do not panic if you aren't an expert in Java (I'm sure not ?:| ).
    This is a simple example that uses most of the logic found in the PAPI documentation on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13154_01/bpm/docs65/papi/index.html?t=modules/papi/c_Head_PAPI.html in the "Writing Your First Java PAPI Program" section of this document.
    The document provides a step-by-step description on how how to use PAPI to:
    <li> interface to processes running on an Oracle BPM Enterprise Engine using the same logic that is in the Oracle BPM PAPI documentation
    <li> interface to processes running on an Oracle BPM Studio Engine
    <li> list processes currently running on the Engine using the same logic that is in the Oracle BPM PAPI documentation
    <li> list the work item instances running on the Engine using the same logic that is in the Oracle BPM PAPI documentation
    <li> create a new work item instance in a process and pass in input argument variables to the new instance as it is created.
    Hope you find this useful,
    Dan

    Hi
    i have gone through your example. It gives good information how to connect to BPM engine through java papi client. I have followed exactly the same steps given in the PDF document. But it throws the exception on both java client side and BPM Suite.
    Steps followed :
    1. Import sampleproject.exp into Oracle BPM studio and start the BPM engine.
    2. Imported the fuegopapi-client.jar and Write the JAVA PIPA client to connect Oracle BPM Engine.
    complete example code:_
    import fuego.papi.CommunicationException;
    import fuego.papi.InstanceInfo;
    import fuego.papi.ProcessService;
    import fuego.papi.ProcessServiceSession;
    import fuego.papi.OperationException;
    import java.util.Properties;
    public class ProcessAPIClient {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
    /////////////////// API Initialization ///////////////////
    Properties configuration = new Properties();
    configuration.setProperty(ProcessService.DIRECTORY_ID, "default");
    configuration.setProperty(ProcessService.DIRECTORY_PROPERTIES_FILE, "directory.xml");
    configuration.setProperty(ProcessService.PROJECT_PATH, "C:\\Oracle\\OracleBPMWorkspace\\SampleProject" );
    configuration.setProperty(ProcessService.WORKING_FOLDER, "/tmp");
    try {
    ProcessService processService = ProcessService.create(configuration);
    /////////////////// Establish a session ///////////////////
    ProcessServiceSession session = processService.createSession("test", "test", null);
    /////////////////// Operate with PAPI ///////////////////
    for (String processId : session.processesGetIds()) {
    System.out.println("\n Process: " + processId);
    for (InstanceInfo instance : session.processGetInstances(processId)) {
    System.out.println(" -> " + instance.getId());
    /////////////////// Close the session ///////////////////
    session.close();
    /////////////////// Release API Resources ///////////////////
    processService.close();
    } catch (CommunicationException e) {
    System.out.println("Could not connect to Directory Service");
    e.printStackTrace();
    } catch (OperationException e) {
    System.out.println("Could not perform the requested operation");
    e.printStackTrace();
    It throws the following exception and output on java client._

  • Iplanet 6 - set jdk for specific web server instance

    I am running iPlanet 6 with many web server instances. All web server instances are using the same jdk except for one which I must upgrade.
    Is there a way to set the jdk for a single web server instance?

    It is possible in V6.0 too:
    1. Copy start-jvm script from https-admserv/ into each https-* that needs a different JVM.
    2. Modify it to load the appropriate JVM
    3. Modify each https-*/start script to use this new start-jvm script instead of the one in https-admserv.
    Frankly speaking it is not my idea and it is not officially documented by Sun but it works!

  • Getting error while creating a new web app saying "The password supplied with the username domainname\username was not correct. Verify that it was entered correctly and try again"

    Hi ,
    I am trying to create a new web app using Central Administration in Sharepoint 2010 and getting an error "The password supplied with the username  was not correct. Verify that it was entered correctly and try again".
    I tried running this command also "stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin <domain\username> -password <newpassword>" but when it got executed it showed me "Access Denied".
    What should i do ??
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards, Anurag

    HI,
    right click on command icon and click run as administrator then use above stsadm commend to update credential. If still you face same issue then try with powershell as mention in below link: (make sure that you open sharepoint powershell as run as administrator)

  • LDAP is not working on new Web Server

    Hi, I configured LDAP authentication and it was working fine. After this I installed a new web server. I copied the security certificate etc ( copied everything from other web server) onto new webserver. When I try to login into Infoview or CMC then I get error message "Security plugin error: Failed to set parameters on plugin" from the new web server. Its working fine from the old web servers.
    Not sure what else I have to do now as I have done the same thing on old servers in the past.
    We are on BOXI R2 SP3 with web server on IIS 6.0. We have three web servers  and 3 processing servers ( with all services) in cluster env.
    Thanks,

    I am sorry I got confused with Pure Enterise authentication. I should have referred to my notes. I apologize for this. Web application server is involved in communicating to LDAP. Below is the process
    1) User logs into the application
    2) Web application server security plugin sends credential to LDAP directory
    3) LDAP directory authenticate users.
    4) Web application server's security plugin sends users credential to LDAP
    5) CMS requests user and group info from LDAP
    6) The LDAP returns this information to CMS Security plugin
    7) CMS will grant access if users is member of mapped group
    8) If access is granted then both CMS and WAS plugin create a session
    9) The WAS sends an enterprise session token to user's browser
    I was referring to login into Infoview using LDAP.
    Thanks,

  • You cannot sign in to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server interface using preconfigured system profiles

    Hi
    I recently upgrade tp 7.0.3  from 7.0.2.
    While upgrade i found that i am not able to login to the web server with the admin id "admin" default created in the application server.
    The same id i can login to application server  , but not in wewb server.
    I am getting the mentioned error "You cannot sign in to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server interface using preconfigured system profiles".
    However if i create a new user in application server and tried logging with the  same in the web server it is working fine..
    is it a known behaviour wirh the upgrade or i m facing some issue.
    Hope i can find a solution here.
    Regards
    RC

    RC,
    This behavior is stemming from a change in MP 7.0 MR2 to disable the MPWeb login for system profiles.  This was an internal change made by the developers to restrict the log on to the MPWeb page by the default accounts created in MeetingPlace upon installation.  The change now displays this error when the admin account is attempted to be used for MPWeb login, as you experienced-
    Error:[22953] You cannot sign in to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server interface using preconfigured system profiles.
    You should be able to log into MPWeb using any other user profile that you have either created manually or pulled in from LDAP/Active Directory.  You just cannot use the admin account.  This is reserved for login to the MP Application Server Administration page only.  I am going to work to get this information added to the MP 7.0 documentation with a note for changed behavior in MR2 and above.  Here is the note from MP 8.0 documentation-
    Note: You cannot use this preconfigured admin profile to access the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Web Server interface. Instead enter the User ID and password information from one of the other user profiles that have system administrator privileges to sign in to the Web Server.
    Please let me know if you have any further questions.
    Thank You,
    Gerry

    Just don't install the sample schemas. See the installation guide
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10831/installation.htm
    Using the Database Configuration Assistant
    When you install Oracle Database with the Oracle Universal Installer, the sample schemas are installed by default if you select the Basic Installation option. Selecting the sample schemas option installs all five schemas (HR, OE, PM, IX, and SH) in the database. If you choose not to install the sample schemas at that time, you can add them later by following the instructions in section "Manually Installing Sample Schemas".
    Choose a custom install and don't install the sample schemas.
    All other schems/tables installed are REQUIRED by Oracle

  • Issue while creating a new web part page (Safeunit.aspx) within a folder located under a Document Library.

    Hi, I am facing an issue while creating a new web part page (Safeunit.aspx) within a folder (Safematic Seal Support Systems) located under a Document Library (Product Information Documents).
    The path I am explaining:
    Going to the Document Library (Product Information Documents) --> now inside that, clicking on a folder (Wet Seal Support
    Systems) --> now inside the folder clicking on another sub-folder (Safematic Seal Support Systems) --> Here I want the web page Safeunit.aspx
    Issue is that when I reach to the required destination, and want to create the web page by clicking on 'Site Action' --> 'Create' --> 'Web Part Page', now while selecting the Document Library name from the drop-down list, I do use 'Product
    Information Documents' since the folder is inside this library only; but that create the page directly under the 'Product Information Documents' library, not under the sub-folder (Safematic Seal
    Support Systems).
    FYI, it is SP2007 version.
    Kindly assist in this. Thanks in advance.

    I see that you have the namespaces reference in your code.
    I think you have changed the NameSpace name of your code to CreateSPFolder, change the reference in all your manifest, and other files to point to the current namespace name. It should help.
    Hope this helps!

  • Embedded font errors after migrating pdfs to new web server

    Hi All,
    After hundreds of working pdfs were moved to new web server, they produce variations of the "cannot extract the embedded font" (name of font) "some characters may not display or print correctly" error. The first page loads perfectly and the rest never load. All these files open fine when I open local copies in Reader (9.1.3) and Professional (7.1.0).They also open fine when moved to another server. When I delete copies on the server and re-upload using the working copies, the errors persist. Doesn't make sense. I also occasionally get the error "there were problems reading this document (14)".
    I was told by the IT department that a possible cause was that the new server environment used fonts installed on the server rather than the local machine to display pdfs.  This doesn't make sense to me.  I've researched these errors and haven't found anything applicable or that has worked. Any suggestions? Has anyone else expeienced this?
    The server is IIS and is running ASP.net. The IT dudes are saying they need to install all the refferenced fonts on the web server but due to the expense of this, they can't.This will nessecitate a really bizzarre and Rube Goldbergesque workaround (that I'm not even going to try to explain here) that I'd really like to avoid.  Any suggestions? Are there any Acrobat settings that need to be twekaed?

    Hi,
    I read the following on another discussion in this forum:
    it appears that with the shortkey ctrl+shift+Y you can force the pc to work around the system fonts
    Maybe that helps.
