Creating a pattern around a shape

Hi,
How can I take these groups of white dots and have them go around the entire object while also taking it's shape?
Thanks!

Thanks.
-Do you have to create the scatter brush, or is that a default?
-Also, how do you enable it so that scatter brush can be selected for the stroke (like you have an additional dropdown to the right of the stroke dropdown where you can see it says the word "Scatter."
If you don't mind my asking, how do you do the same effect with a regular white line stroke (again with some space from the edge)? I tried playing with adding an inner stroke from the appearance palette and then another fill on top but that didn't work.
Thanks!

  • Creating an outline around text or objects that follows their shape

I have tried the offset path, however it gets too large.  I am looking to keep things simple but need a bit more definition that just a simple outline will give.  On this particular image I am looking to create an outline or fill shape behind the words and pistol but wanting to keep roughly the same shape.  Any pointers?

I think I've got it now. The Apreance panel will probably do the trick. Here's how:

  • Seamlessly wrap a pattern around a 3D shape in Illustrator?

Does anybody know how to seamlessly wrap a vector pattern around a 3D  rectangle in Illustrator?  I've tried doing it by taking sections of the  vector pattern and using the skew tool to adjust the perspective, but  it looks off.  Thanks!

    That's not a 3D box. It's a 2D oblique.
If you want an actual 3D model, you can:
    1. Draw three rectangles proportional to the 3 visible sides of the box. Fill them with the pattern. Store each as a Symbol.
    2. Draw a filled, unstroked rectangle the size of one of the visible sides. Use Effect>3D>Extrude&Bevel to extrude it to a proportional depth.
    3. Use the Map Artwork feature in the 3D Effect dialog to map the Symbols to the visible sides.
If you want to know a simple way to construct a properly proportioned 2D axonometric box, this PDF might help.

  • Centre a pattern within a shape

    Hey guys,
So I'm probably missing something very basic, but when I create a pattern using the new pattern maker and I apply it to say a rectangle, how can I make sure that the pattern is centred?  For example I have a chevron pattern that I want to fill a rectangle, but I want to make sure that the chevron pattern is dead centre - I have messed around with this for ages and cant figure it out.
    Thanks

Thanks Wade - I actually found a way that works slightly better, although a tad fiddly.  I created my pattern, then applied it to a rectangle - I then went into the general preferences and unticked 'Transform Pattern Tiles' and made my keyboard increments really small.  This allows me to move the shape in very small increments and the pattern doesn't move with the shape, so I can line my shape up with the pattern as I like.  Once I have it in the right spot, I just go back into the general preferences and tick the 'Transform Pattern Tiles' checkbox again which keeps the pattern lined up as I want and I can move my shape around with the pattern moving.
It's a bit fiddly, I'm sure there must be an even simpler way than this, but until I find out, I'll just have to do it this way.
    Anyway, thanks again

  • How can I create a frame around a text?

I think everything is in the title. I want to create a frame around a text.
    Thanks

If what you want is a solid line around the text, set the text in a text box. In the Graphic Inspector click on Stroke and choose Line. In the little menu below that click the arrows and choose the type of line (or dots/dashes) you want. Choose the color (if other than black) and then the weight of the line— from the pt menu. Instead of line you can choose frame, but these don’t always look good with text. To allow some space around the text, go to the Text Inspector and adjust the Inset Margin to your liking.
You can also set text in a shape by inserting a shape from the menu, double clicking in the shape and typing.

  • Best way to create a frame around an image

I'm not sure what to use to create a frame of different shapes (I can do it with tubes in Paint Shop Pro but want to figure it out in Adobe) around an image and then give the image in that frame a fuzzy or old-fashioned look. I have the CS4 Master Collection so if anyone can point me to a tutorial for a product in the suite to do that I would greatkly appreciate it.
    Thanks very much!

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean a soft vignette, something like this:
If so, then here's what I did.
I started with a screen capture of your post, so I'd have something to use for an image.
From the vector shapes tool, I selected the star shape. It's usually a rectangle, but you might prefer an ellipse.
In the Properties panel at the bottom, I set the Edge to Feather and set the value to 25 pixels.
I set the color of the star shape to white.
I selected the shape and the image then went to menu Modify > Mask > Group as Mask. The vector shape acts like a fancy stencil. Where it's white, the masked image shows through. Where the mask is transparent (or black) the underlying image will be transparent. Intermediate values of transparency (or grey) in the mask will produce intermediate values of transparency in the masked image.
I set the canvas color to dark blue, so you can see how the image is now faded with the mask. You might prefer a white canvas.
The image is a Fireworks .png, so if you copy it to your computer, you can open it and see how it works. I have an extra copy of the image and star (non-visible), so you can see the two individual parts.
If that isn't what you want, can you link to or post an example? Use the Insert Image control to add an image to your post. It's the camera icon to the left of the smilie.

  • Creating a border around objects?

This should be simple but as a human being I'm useless and I can't figure it out
I want to create a border around images like the triangles on
    this website.

Baby steps please, as I said I'm an invalid

I'm 73 you will get that math soon hopefully you also get to 73 some day take your time. By 15 I had to take it in school.
Equilateral triangle have three equal length sides and all three angle are 60degree  only these will expand with equal size borders added on the three sides.. Some triangle will expand with two equal size borders other all the borders will be different sizes. Symmetric things like squares and circles expand evenly.

  • How do I get a black outline around my shapes?

Hello I somehow managed to get a black outline around my shapes (as seen in the attachment) which I would like to know how to do. I have no idea how I did this! Can anyone help?

    Lanithu,
If you mean the black shapes of varying width showing the hand and face, you may start/do it in this way for each:
    1) Create the basic shape (one of the edges) with a stroked path;
    2) Move a copy the desired distance in the desired direction (down to the right for the hand, a bit up to the right for the face);
    3) Adjust Anchor Points as desired (such as (some of) the ones at the mouth);
    4) Select the inner path and Object>Path>Offest Path to create the path for the Path Type, delete unwanted segments (the end segments and the opposite part); you may Type before or after going on with the shapes;
    5) Connect each pair of paths to form closed paths, and reshape the end portions as desired;
    6) Add fill and remove stroke.

  • Create a Pattern in Photoshop CS5

    Hi
I can't create a Pattern of a selection area. When I try to create the Pattern at Edit->Define Pattern, this option isn't available.
I will tell you the steps I'm taking:
->Create a new doc and use Paint Bucket Tool to paint it with Black (this is the background).
->Then I create a new layer and with the rectangular marquee tool I do a square.
->Keeping the selection I press cmd+backspace and the square becomes white.
->Keeping the selection I do a Stroke with 2px, color black and option Inside.
->Then I go to Edit to define a pattern of that square, however the Define Pattern option is gray, so I can't use it.
Does someone knows why this is happening?
    Thanks

I can't offer any help because the steps you are providing should make it possible to define a pattern.
If it is a glitch you could try to make Photoshop behave by resetting the Preferences file:
In Photoshop 6 and up, hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac) immediately after (or while) launching Photoshop. A prompt will ask if you want to delete the preferences file. Click Yes.

  • How do I create an outline around text please

hi all, How do I create an outline around text please
    thanks,

You can see here that you can simply apply a stroke to live text by double clicking the stroke icon in the bottom left of the toolbar and selecting a color. I chose red.
If you select the text, then go to Type > Create Outlines, you get more options in the stroke palette, like whether the stroke is aligned to the outside or inside of the text object's boundary. The text below is outlined with the stroke aligned to the outside.

You can use symbols and the symbolism tools as well as scatter brushes.

  • Problems creating a stroke around entire completed logo

    Hi
Am currently having trouble finishing off my logo.
I need to be able to do a stroke around the entire logo so that when i cut it out i dont need to go right to the edge of the design (as it is for heat pressing on t-shirts).
Only problem is I can't work it out. I've tried grouping it all then trying to create one stroke around the entire thing but it still wants to apply the stroke to individual items. Then I tried putting a copied layer behind and giving it a stroke but because it is filled with black it changes the colour of the blue. tried filling with white, but it creates halo's and shadows in the background. Ive set the transparency to block out the black behind as much as i can to try and eliminate the colour change problem. But its still not right.
So the question is, can i create a stroke just around the outside of my completed logo?
Have attached a pdf with two examples. One without anything and one with the copied layer behind and filled black so you can see the colour difference.
Any help or suggestions would be fabulous.
    Thanks

    Hi,
If I understand your problem correctly, this should do what you need:
Select and group the oval and the text. Keep selected. Go to Window>Appearance. On the upper right, just above the bar that says Group, you should see three short horizonal bars and a tiny triangle. Click on that, and a menu will open, one of the options being Add New Stroke. Select that. You will see the new 1-pt. black stroke appear under the Group bar in the Appearance palette. Click and hold the Stroke bar, drag it below the Contents bar. Go to the stroke palette Window>Stroke and increase the size of the stroke until you are satisfied with it.

  • How can I rotate a pattern within a shape?

How can I rotate a pattern within a shape?

To the left of the 1 key, right below the esc key. Has the ~ and ` on it.
That key has ° and ¨ on it on my keyboard and it doesn't work.
But I found it by holding down the < key (to the left of Z).
So now I can rotate etc. patterns manually after about 3 decades of doing it numerically through the dialogue :-)
    You live and learn.

    Hey guys,
I am trying to create a keyline around the document instead of using the crop mark. I would like to automate this task for each documents for any size I create. Does somebody tried to set up a applescript for that?
I found a bunch of script about how to create a stroke for text frame but I don't know how to create a black stroke in the size of my artboard.... Help me please!

  • How to create this pattern

Using Illustrator CS5, any suggestions on how to efficiently create a pattern similar to this one?
