Creating a PDF with Transparent Images

Hi,
Here is my problem:
I am using Acrobat 9. I design posters in another program. I print to PDF.
I design the poster and must put a logo in it with a transparent background. Note: If the poster background is white I never have any problems.
This poster has a pink background and hence I have to put the logo into the poster in a graphic type of gif or tiff or png to maintain transparency.
All is fine in my design program - transparency is fine etc.
I print to PDF (Acrobat 9.0) and the dreaded white box occurs. Note, I put an old version of the logo, one I cannot use, and it maintained its transparency fine. So this means that some gif files Acrobat 9.0 keeps transparency and some it does not.
So, in summary, I have tried all types of file formats gif, png, tiff and all types of programs to remove the logo background and save as one of the later formats and NONE maintain the transparency in the PDF output.
I have even tried saving the whole poster as a jpeg - but the quality was too poor to print.
I have used Word, Photoshop, MS Photodraw, Elements etc.
I have no idea why a gif I have from years ago works and one that I am creating now maintain their tranparency in the PDF.
I am under a deadline and am VERY worried this will not get done.
I am immensely grateful for any help - I have been at this for countless weeks and hours...
Thanks,
Elisabeth

I am using MS Publisher and even Word 2010 for poster design and have used multiple programs (and multiple formats that support transparency)  for logo editing - removal of background - Photoshop, etc.
I place logos, both gifs, with transparent backgrounds in a document and print PDF and one or none will show transparency - it makes no sense at all.
Most of the time the background is a white block. It couldnt be more frustrating.
It is a simple document/poster with just a few words of text and a logo...
Are there settings in Acrobat 9.0 that need to be turned on that I am missing. I had no trouble with Acrobat 7 - it worked EVERY time.
I was on  with tech support for 5 hrs and there was no knowledge of this - he just wanted to reinstall 7.0 which did not work.
Need ideas - overprinting is on. I noticed that flattening doesnt allow me to pick transparent objects - have no ideas if I am even on the right track.
Have read everything I can find online regarding Acrobat 9.0, PDF creation and transparent logo backgrounds.
Sooo grateful for any help!
Thanks,
Elisabeth

  • Create a PDF with multiple images per page

    So this seems really simple, but i cannot figure it out... i am creating a PDF from 30 JPGs and rather than having an image on each page in the PDF I would like to set it up so that there are 6 images per page... any thoughts .. thanks in advance
    cheers
    matt

    Once you have the PDF with a single image per page, print it out to a new PDF with 6 pages per page.
    Either that, or use an authoring application like Word or InDesign.

  • Creating a PDF with transparency without exporting to PDF (Mac)

    Hi
    I need to created a PDF from InDesign that has unflattened (native) transparency without using the export PDF command ( because of the flaw seen here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/537751?tstart=0 )
    I have tried exporting as an EPS and that flattens transparency and creating PS does as well.
    Any other ideas, settings or applications/utilities to try?
    Thanks
    -Andrew

    Thanks everyone that was what I thought.
    Peter: If we knew when it was happening then we can fix it, unfortunately there is no indicator when it will happen. We get jobs from all over North America from all kinds of designers so it could happen on any job.
    It is hard to say how many job it happens on as in most cases it wouldn't be noticed by the client as the amount is so small, and in some case it would happen in the bleed that gets trimmed.
    So far we have noticed the issue when it happens in a critical situation and haven't had any spoils but it is just a matter of time.
    We are going into Annual Reports soon as well as proffesional sport tickets both of which are critical clients.

  • Any way to create a PDF with an image field or insert an image?

    Hi. I'm using CS3 with Acrobat 8.1 Pro on a Mac. We're trying to create a one-page PDF that we'll save and users on a PC can open up and add text fields to, as well as an area where they can insert an image file (their logo). The source file is created in Illustrator. Would we have to create a document through Acrobat with these fields available to them in their version of Acrobat or Reader (where they can add their own content), or is there another way? Not sure how to best go about it, if it's at all possible. Thanks.

    I don't think there is any particular requirement for Content although, you will have to play with the size of the fields to accomodate the size of the logo. if you want to send out over a web page then have them download, and email.
    you will have to go to advanced menu and choose Extend Features in Reader. this will allow the item to be downloaded, filled out, saved and emailed.
    NOTE: There is a limitation of no more than 500  returned pdfs.
    Adobe has special service that allows you to do this unlimited however; It cost about the same as a Lincoln Towne Car fully loaded, per year.  If your a Fortune 500 company its peanuts. But for the rest of the world its out of range.
    I guess the reson its so expensive, is that its not used that much. on the other hand, if they would get price down to 250-500 bucks per year, everyone could use it.
    However; this limited rights thing they have come up with is good for Non-profits and small businesses that just need something on a small scale.

    When I create a PDF with Adobe Reader XI, it wont take the links behind the images. Sometimes he does, mostly not.. Whats the solution? The links in text do work!

    Hello,
    How can I give a answer back in the discussion on Adobe.com?
    I don’t see any link?
    1.      We have a subscription.
    2.      Im converting a newsletter from the web to PDF.
    3.      Sometimes I put a weblink behind the image in the newsletter. Most of the time PDF wont take the links behind the image.
    Only the tekstlinks are OK.

  • ImageView with transparent image not clickable

    I created an ImageView with an image with transparent portions. I also did some scaling and moving, which I though might cause this effect, but that is not the case. When I click on the transparent portion of the image the onMouseClick event is not fired. Other mouse events (mouse enter, mouse move, mouse exit, ...) get fired. Only when I click on the non transparent part the click event is fired.
    Image img = new Image(getClass().getResourceAsStream("barrel_icon.png"));
    ImageView view = new ImageView(img);
    view.setScaleX(0.5);
    view.setScaleY(0.5);
    view.setOnMouseClicked(new EventHandler<MouseEvent>() {
        @Override
        public void handle(MouseEvent mouseEvent) {
        System.out.println("Clicked on the scaled icon");
    StackPane root = new StackPane();
    Group group = new Group(view);
    group.setManaged(false);
    group.setLayoutY(-13);
    group.setLayoutX(-13);
    root.getChildren().add(group);
    The area between the barrel and the shadow belongs clearly to the image, however is transparent.
    I am wondering if there is a reason for this behaviour and what is the best way to work around this issue, as my image has large transparent portions and the non transparent parts are hard to click on.
    By the way this is all based on JavaFX 2.2.

    Hotzst

    For future reference here is the workaround I have come up with:
    public class TransparentImageViewClickableArea extends Rectangle{
        private final ImageView imageView;
        public TransparentImageViewClickableArea(ImageView imageView) {
            super(imageView.getLayoutX(), imageView.getLayoutY(), imageView.getImage().getWidth(), imageView.getImage().getHeight());
            setOnMouseReleased(imageView.getOnMouseReleased());
            this.imageView = imageView;
            bindBounds();
        private void bindBounds() {
            DoubleBinding layoutXBinding = new DoubleBinding() {
                    super.bind(imageView.layoutXProperty(), imageView.scaleXProperty());
                @Override
                protected double computeValue() {
                    final double imgWidth = imageView.getImage().getWidth();
                    final double actualWidth = imgWidth * imageView.getScaleX();
                    double diff = imgWidth - actualWidth;
                    return imageView.getLayoutX() + diff/2;
            layoutXProperty().bind(layoutXBinding);
            DoubleBinding layoutYBinding = new DoubleBinding() {
                    super.bind(imageView.layoutYProperty(), imageView.scaleYProperty());
                @Override
                protected double computeValue() {
                    final double imgHeight = imageView.getImage().getHeight();
                    final double actualHeight = imgHeight * imageView.getScaleY();
                    double diff = imgHeight - actualHeight;
                    return imageView.getLayoutY() + diff/2;
            layoutYProperty().bind(layoutYBinding);
            widthProperty().bind(imageView.getImage().widthProperty().multiply(imageView.scaleXProperty()));
            heightProperty().bind(imageView.getImage().heightProperty().multiply(imageView.scaleYProperty()));
    It is not a perfect solution, as it does not consider the case that the image might be changed as well. This however could be improved easily but was not necessary in my use case.

  • Creating a .pdf with different page views

    I'm tyring to create a .pdf with different page views.  For example as the viewer goes through the .pdf some pages I would like viewed as "single page view" and others "two page view".  Is this possible?   I'm working with Adobe Acrobate Pro.  Thanks for any suggestions.

    It's possible to use the Page Open actions to trigger a view mode change but it's messy - if the user tries to override them because they prefer to zoom in, etc. then they'll get very annoyed when things keep resetting.
    To create a Page Open action, open the thumbnails panel, right-click on a page, choose Page Properties, then the Actions tab. You can use the Execute a Menu Item tool to fire one of the view modes.

  • Create a Pdf with a job...

    Hi!
    A very simple question!
    I have to create 9.000 pdf every month, with data present on db.
    I don't want to press a button to create every pdf.
    Especially, I can't keep busy the Client for all the execution.
    I need to schedule this work, in every way.
    Possibly, I don't want to install Report Designer on the server. But Report designer is installed on Client.
    I need something like to schedule in a job the "Run product" command... but withouth the product!!!
    Is it possible?
    I accept also something of different, like to schedule in windows, but.... it has to be free. Totally free.
    I know how to create a pdf with reports designer, but it has to be batch and the Client has to work normally.
    Server
    System: Windows 2003
    Database: Oracle 10g
    Development
    Forms Designer: 4.5.10.6.0 (yes, I know: it is very old!)
    Reports Designer: 2.5.7.4.3 (yes, I know: it is older!)
    Thank you from Italy,
    Margherita

    It's doable using a windows/Unix/Linux scheduler running the report as a batch.
    You may find your version's help text. Here goes the 6i's....
    To run a report using a command file:
    1     Create a text file using a word processor of your choice.
    2     Type ORACLE_HOME\BIN\RWRUN60, followed by the report name and desired arguments.
    3     If you ran the report in batch mode, and sent the output to a file (DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=filename BATCH=YES), open or print the file to verify the output.

  • How to create a pdf with the correct size?

    Hi there
    How do I create a pdf with the correct size? I created several albums and ordered them. Now I want to backup the album and I know how to create a pdf, but when I choose A5 it's to big, when I create my own size it's not the size it should be. The original (made with iphoto) is a small size album 200x150mm. But when I create my own size (200x150) it shows some white borders.
    Does anybody have some tips ore workarounds?
    Yuri
    Imac
    Iphoto 11 (9.4.2)

    Books are designed for and printed on 8.5 x 11 inch stock, US Letter size.  You shouldn't have to select any size.  While viewing the All Pages mode in the book Control-Click on the page and select Save Book as PDF from the contextual menu.
    That will create a PDF that iPhoto uses to upload and print.  Not all pages will be the same size as the dust jacket will be present in it's full size, 32.8 inches x 8.91 inches:
    If you want a PDF that's designed for your own printing the type Command+P while viewing the All Pages window.  In the first print window click on the PDF button.  It will present you with a contextual menu where you should select Save as PDF.  That will give you an 8.5 x 11 PDF file with all pages the same size.

    You change the PDF Maker conversion settings or PDF printer conversion settings.
    PDF Maker Conversion Settings.
    Open any office application, click on "Acrobat" in ribbon.
    Click on "Preferences".
    Click on "Advanced Settings".
    Now, you can change the resolution as per your requirement.
    PDF Printer Conversion Settings.
    Click on File -> Print
    Select "Adobe PDF Printer".
    Click on "Printer Properties".

  • Creating interactive PDFs with page turn,issue with PDF

    I recently watch a video on adobe tv titled "indesign : creating interactive PDFs with page turn and flash animation". The video was great,simple to follow with great results, I was able to create a document with interactive page turns that was viewable in a web browser,the next step was to then create the same document but be able to view it in PDF format. I followed the above mentioned video and everything worked apart from one issue once I exported the indesign file out as an interactive PDF it opened up in adobe acrobat pro with no problem but when I went to turn the page it would lag and slow down to the point were it was almost impossible to turn the page, the page turning didn't seem to flow as well as when viewing it in a web browser. The document I am creating is a catalogue and I am happy with the interactive version for the web but I am looking at putting the catalogue on a CD/ USB and need it to open and work with PDF, it would be a great help if anyone could advise me on the reason why the interactive page turning runs so poor in PDF format. I am currently running on a very powerful computer with the adobe CS5 master suit.
    Any help would be much appreciated

    The page flipping is an SWF effect, so essentially you now have an entire SWF embedded inside a PDF.
    If you forget about this garish effect (which, I can guarantee you, by next year will be "so 2012") you can send out a standard PDF which can be easily viewed on otherwise sub-standard computers, and using very straightforward PDF readers, such as the ones currently available for the iPad and its clones.

  • Create a PDF with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and 11 x 17 pages

    Is it possible in Acrobat 10 to create one PDF with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and 11 x 17 pages? I have two PDFs, one with 8 1/2 x 11 pages and the other with 11 x 17 pages. I want to merge the two into one PDF and be able to print the 8 1/2 x 11 pages as 8 1/2 x 11 and the 11 x 17 pages as 11 x 17 from the same document.

    File > Combine is the tool.
    or, Open the documents side by side; open their pages panels; drag page icons from one document to the other.
    Choose Paper Source PDF by Page Size allows different size papers to be selected for the printer, assuming it supports multiple paper sizes.

  • Is it possible to create a .pdf with BOTH color and grayscale images?

    Hello,
    I am in the final phases of a book project (4 years in the making!) that has both grayscale and color graphics. When I save as a .pdf via the Adobe PDF printer driver and distill, I end up with a .pdf that only has color graphics despite the fact that some images were grayscale to begin with. I'd like the grayscale images to remain graysale in the pdf. Is that possible?
    I am using older software framemaker 6.0 and acrobat & distiller 6.0 and am reluctant to change now, I will upgrade for a second edition, but not now.
    Thanks.

    Create the document in layers with the background on a seperate layer than the text. Export the PDF with"Create Acrobat Layers" selected (it will need to be at least version 1.5).
    Open the PDF in Acrobat, choose the background layer then Options>Properties>Initial State and under "print" choose "Never prints".
