Creating a Photo Collage in PSE8

How can I create a 16"x24" photo collage in PSE8 with 5 photos?  I want 1 photo to be the main focal point and to be the largest and then 2 photos medium size and 2 photos smaller.
Thanks,
Carissa

Go to File>new>blank file. Enter the dimensions, background color, resolution (240-300px/in range for printing). This will be your canvas.
Do the math and figure out how large each of the 5 photos should be for this project.
Crop the pictures to specification. It is desirable to have the resolution of these 5 pictures the same value as the resolution of the canvas.
Copy/paste the 5 pictures, or drag them up from the photobin, into the work area. Each picture will be on its own layer.
Use the move tool to position the pictures, and to resize them, if necessary, with the corner handles of the bounding box.

I am trying to create a photo collage from pictures from iphoto but I have no idea where to begin. What program do I open for this and do I do a lot of cutting and pasting? I am new to the computer thing so any help would be great.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There are several 3rd party application that will take a folder of photos and create a collage or mosiac of them. One will create a selected picture out of the rest of the photos. They may or may not do what you want. Search VersionTracker.com for "collage" or "mosiac".
The other way, as you're mentioned, is to use an image editor that will let you create a blank canvas and then open, cut and past other photos to it. Photoshop Elements would be my choice for a 3rd party editor for that and most other edits. Here are a couple of examples of the extreme types of edits that can be performed by it with a little experience.

  • How Do I Create A Photo Collage in Final Cut Pro X?

    Hi all,
I'm a total newbie with Final Cut Pro X.  I'm using it to edit aerial drone footage for real estate sales.
I have video from the outside of the houses, and I can edit that just fine.  What I want to do, though, is have a kind of photo collage/montage of photos of the interior of the houses somewhere in the videos.  But like I said, I'm totally new at this and have no idea how to do it.
If someone could explain how or point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I put out a remake of the Photo Recall effect a few weeks ago called Photo Recall Enhanced (it adds a lot more features to the effect already available in FCPX.)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I8Lo0tFdPU
(there's more info in the About section under the video.) There's no charge.
All you need to do is stack the images or video you want to collage on the sceen and add this Effect to each clip. You can set the Background Opacity to 0% to get rid of the "recall" effect and that will leave you with just the "photo" on the screen.  There's an onscreen control to help you position the image and other parameters for scaling and rotating (and all of these things can be keyframed for animation.

  • How do I create a Photo collage in Photoshop Elements 9

I would like to make a photo collage but I always have a box pop up that states integer between 1953789282 & 53945508715 required, closest value inserted & then I cannot go any further.  Not sure what that means

Quit the editor, then restart it while holding down Ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Create a photo collage canvas of 150 old scanned photos? Tips to increase efficiency?

    Hi there!
I'm been asked to make a 150cm/100cm big high res canvas out of 150+ old photos scanned to digital JPEG's. Is there a way to do that without spending the next two years of my life dedicated to that task? (Joking aside)
I have been handed 100 scanned jpeg's with 3-4 old photos on them (They put 3-4 old photos and placed upon a A4 sized paper and scanned in order to save time).
1: So I have to rotoscope (Is that the name for photos?) and make a new layer out of each photo. Or is there a simpler way?
2: Then I have place them correctly at the 150x100cm huge "canvas background".
3: Edit: Found the "Auto Select" tool (Long time since I worked with photoshop, no doubt about that...)
Some scanned photos are skewed. Is there a way to "Auto Rotate them when I press CTRL+J to make them separate layers?
Also, I managed to rotate my workspace when I zoomed in on my trackpad, is there a way to rotate back to 90°? (Don't see any degree numbers)
Any tips and tricks how to increase efficiency would be greatly appreciated!

    Photo Collage Toolkit
Photoshop scripting is powerful and I believe this package demonstrates this A video showing a 5 image collage PSD template  being populates with images:
The package includes four simple rules to follow when making Photo Collage Template PSD files so they will be compatible with my Photoshop scripts.
Size the photo collage templates for the print size you want - width, height and print DPI resolution.
Photo collage templates must have a Photoshop background layer. The contents of this layer can be anything.
Photo collage templates must have alpha channels named "Image 1", "Image 2", ... "Image n".
Photo collage templates layers above the background layers must provide transparent areas to let the images that will be placed below them show through.
There are twelve scripts in this package they provide the following functions:
TestCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to test a Photo Collage Template while you are making it with Photoshop.
CollageTemplateBuilder.jsx - Can build Templates compatible with this toolkit's scripts.
LayerToAlphaChan.jsx - Used to convert a Prototype Image Layer stack into a template document.
InteractivePopulateCollage.jsx - Used to interactively populate Any Photo Collage template. Offers most user control inserting pictures and text.
ReplaceCollageImage.jsx - use to replace a populated collage image Smart Object layer with an other image correctly resized and positioned.
ChangeTextSize.jsx - This script can be used to change Image stamps text size when the size used by the populating did not work well.
PopulateCollageTemplate.jsx - Used to Automatically populate a Photo Collage template and leave the populated copy open in Photoshop.
BatchOneImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Collage templates that only have one image inserted. The Collage or Image may be stamped with text.
BatchMultiImageCollage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with images in a source image folder. Easier to use than the interactive script. Saved collages can be tweaked.
BatchPicturePackage.jsx - Used to Automatically Batch Populate Any Photo Collage template with an image in a source image folder
PasteImageRoll.jsx - Paste Images into a document to be print on roll paper.
PCTpreferences.jsx - Edit This File to Customize Collage Populating scripts default setting and add your own Layer styles.

  • How to create a photo collage in iPhoto

When sending photos from IPhoto in an email, I have lost the ability to create artistic layouts using such things as collage, black backgrounds, etc. as I used to do.  All pictures are now sent via the "Mail" program and appear stacked one above the next on a white background.  Boring!  Where do I find the old selections (there were several, depending upon the number of photos being emailed) I had before upgrading the OS?

  • Creating a photo collage on a Mac

Hi. I'm relatively new to Mac and iPhoto. Is there a way to create a collage of say 15 or 16 pictures so I can print it out as a poster? I know Roxio has a photo program for Windows. Is there an equivalent for Mac? Thank you.

Not with iPhoto. However if you have iWork you can create a poster via a custom page size in Pages and add your photos to it. Additionally, there's an application, OmniGraffle, that, in demo mode, will let you create a poster with up to 10 photos on it. I created this 20 x 30" poster with it consisting of 96 photos:

  • Can I still create a photo collage to print at home

Running Mountain Lion, using iPhoto '11 Version 9.4.3. My printer is an HP Photosmart C6180. I can't figure out if I did it before with this setup. Maybe I should try from the printer's settings, but can't rem how to get there, sorry, I have CRS

Yes, Old Toad, I am trying to print from iPhoto. (If you have to ask the meaning of CRS, you must already , since I believe you're older than I am, have it, Can't Remember S%$#.) I will give the HP application a try as soon as I find my manual in my drawer. Found it, no, nothing in it. The last time I am sure I did collages, I was still using my eMac, and an Epson printer. I used AppleWorks Painting. I had been trying to create pages of family pix to send to my sibs. You helped me out then. BTW, they came out great. The Epson had multiple creative apps, as did the old iPhoto.  Hmm, Page Setup isn't under file anymore, dang. That's where i used to be able to choose multiple photos per page? Oh, phooey. Give me back my ancient iPhoto!  I now recall the last time I printed multiple photos on one page, without borders, with my Windows laptop. I am not setting that whole thing up.  I can print single photos per page, or do a contact sheet, enlarging the photos using the column slider to lower the number of columns, thereby enlarging the pix, but I can't get them to come out very big. Well over an inch of white between the pix on my letter size paper. Doesn't resemble a collage at all. I was going to add a photo of one collage, but I just found out the pix of my creations aren't even in my current iPhoto library, yikes! I have some work to do.

  • Creating a photo collage in Iphoto

Does anyone know if it is possible to grab some photos in Iphoto and arrange them or stick them together to make a collage?

    HI Brad,
iPhoto does not offer that option.
You need a graphic program such as Photoshop or PS Elements to do that.
There are also other third party programs to do it also.

  • Creating Photo Collages with Automator

    Hi.
I'd like to use automator to create a photo collage from a set of pictures.
Let's say I have four pictures, each of varying dimensions. They're named sequentially in the order I'd like them to appear. I'd like an automator script that would take the photos, scale them to the same height (they're in portrait layout), and arrange them left to right in a collage.
I'd like the result being four photos stitched right next to each other, all the same height, filling out the screen. The ideal scenario would obtain the height of the tallest photo and upscale the others to that same height. But I'd settle for a set height (determined either by a fixed number or a prompt asking the user to set it each time).
    Thanks.

Haven't had time to work on this problem but I have seen something almost identical done before. The result was a 20" x 30" poster but The same process should work with your photos. http://media.libsyn.com/media/macbreak/macbreak20060615-008-450p-h264.mov

  • Help with photo collage in Elements 10

I am new to Photoshop Elements 10. I am trying to create a photo collage, but a window pops up saying "Valid size not available for this creation".  Can someone help me fix this so I can create??

You can select the layout-horizontal or vertical while choosing a theme for the collage. As you select the theme in Photo collage dialog, it shows the size as x*y inches or y*x inches which decides whether your collage would be portrait or landscape.
Let me know if that helps!
