Creating a planning app

I need a quick prototype....but, I have to use the clients dimensional hierarchies..
I used the app wizard in planning to create an app and I have seeded the dimensions. I also have the client files in parent child format.
What is the quickest way to load their dimensions..
ADS is a lot of work...is there another way?
Jz

Build it in classic mode as Alp has suggested with the outline load utility and if you still want it to an EPMA application you can then convert it.
Then you could use something like the EPMA file generator to generate the .ads from the application.

  • Incorrect web server is listed and unable to create EPMA Planning App

I was trying to create a first EPMA Planning app but unable to continue as it lists incorrect web server.
Little background on the environment: WinTel 2008 environment, 11.1.2 Suite.
FS, Essbase, Workspace on box 1
    Planning on box 2
    HFM on box 3
    FDM on box 4
    RA, FR on box 5
    Oracle Enterprise on Box 6
Originally planning was installed on box 5 and switched to box 2. Currently web server list box 5 instead of updated box (2).
Are there any settings that I can modify to list proper server?
    Thanks in advance!

Did you reconfigure "Configure Logical Address for Web Applications" and update the host to the new host?

  • Cannot create new planning app following installation of 9.3.1

    Hi,
I have installed planning including epma. I have registered everything with HSS and have created a data source through the config tool. However, I cannot see how to create a new app through workspace and planning is not listed as a project in HSS. I have created the sql repository etc
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

    Hi,
First of all there will not be a project in HSS, you can manually create one and call it whatever you like.
Have you granted shared service roles :- Dimension editor and Application Creator.
If you have and configured correctly you should be able to create an application through workspace > Navigate > Administer > Classic Application Administration > Planning Administration
You should be also able to access planning directly to create an application :- http://<planning machine>:8300/HyperionPlanning/AppWizard.jsp

  • Url to create classic planning app

Is there any different url to create hyperion planning classic application, other than through workspace ?
    Thanks

Adding to what JohnGoodwin has said, It doesn't ask you to select an application while logging to Workspace for creating application / logging in to AppWizard.jsp link to create planning application

  • Don't see the created planning app in workspace

    Hi all,
I have very similar problem to this one:
    Hyperion Planning Installation - error
I succesfully installed and configured shared services, essbase, workspace, planning.
In EPM Architect I created my planning app. I see it in application library, I'm able to edit it in dimension library.
But I can't see this application in workspace (neither under "Applications" at home page nor at others workspace menus)
I can only deal with it in http://<planningmachine>:8300/HyperionPlanning/
I checked my system database, HSPSYS_APPLICATION table exists there and there is a record for my app.
Then I tried to reconfigure planning database (just in case), but it still doesn't appear in workspace. Also, HSPSYS_APPLICATION table now is empty.
    Need your help...

    didenko wrote:
I checked web server configuration, and planning has default port 8300Did you run through all the configuration process for the workspace web server or just check? If you just checked then you will need to run through all the config process.
I'll remind that after reconfiguring planning database HSPSYS_APPLICATION table now is empty. Maybe I should return a record for my app somehow? If you can access your planning application I can't see how the table would be empty unless you have run the config utility and select the planning database config and dropped the tables.
If you can access the planning application directly then you don't need to worry about the table.

  • Planning App Settings - Shared Services URL grayed out

I am int he process of doing a clean install of epm 11.1.2.2. I have created a planning app in and the shared services url under application settings is incorrect. The name of the RDB server was picked up instead of the planning server. I need to change this because lcm is unable to get artifact listing for planning app. Does anyone know how or where I would go to change this? The operating system is Windows 2008 R2 with a MSSQL for the RDB.

    Hi John,
I tried unregistering and reregistering, logged into the app through workspace which didn't change anything. I haven't been able to locate the url to connect directly to planning. Can you help? Also, I wanted to mentioned that in the earlier version of planning, 11.1.1.2, the shared services URL is not grayed out. When I saw that I thought it might be a security issue but the user has full rights.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Creating planning app in 9.2

    Hi,
I have a situation where a newly created planning app is listed in the planning front end but when you try and log into it you get a message saying 'Unable to logo. Refer to log for details' or words to that affect.
The steps which were followed are
    1. Created sql db
    2. Created UDL file
    3. Created ODBC connection
    4. Created essbase app
    5. Configured and deployed
The planning app is not in HSS despite the configuration and deployment to HSS. Which step/process is missing?
    Thanks,
    Nathan

    Hi,
The application was created through the planning desktop. There were no error messages. I am talking with someone over the phone who is having problems. We created a new app over the phone and no error messages appeared. The planning service was taken down when the properties file was created and then planning was restarted. On that occassion the new app wasn't in the properties file so it also wasn't available through the planning client.
The hspeventlog from the app which was created but couldn't be accessed confirmed the app had been created.
    Odd..
    Thanks

  • Unable to create Planning app

    Gurus,
I have been unable to create planning app.
I created the datasource successfully in workspace.
Then when I try to create the app (so that I can dump the files from different environment), I get the message... APPLICATION ALREADY EXISTS IN ESSBASE.
I have tried to delete the application in Essbase and again when I try to create it, it again gives the same message. Do I need to do anything to avoid it.
    Thanks

    John,
    Yes this is the environment.
Finally, the environment is up and running.
I have some planning apps and some essbase apps. I have already copied the essbase apps and loaded data, and Agged them.
Now I am trying to work with the planning applications.
    I created the datasource.
and now I am trying to create the planing apps so that i could dump or do LCM to migrate, however, when I try to create the apps, it gives me the error message saying that the apps already exist in essbase.
One thing I need to tell you is that the server had essbase apps before. However, we uninstalled EPM cleared everything out and then installed brand new EPM on it.
    Thanks for your guidance.

  • Upgrade/Migrate 9.3.3 Planning apps to 11.1.2.2

I am in the next step of our upgrade from 9.3.3 to 11.1.2.2 and ready to migrate our Planning applications. I have read many of the posts related to this and have a general list of steps, but I have slightly different situation than what I have seen posted before.
To summarize, we have installed 11.1.2.2 on new servers.  Our old 9.3.3 is still up and running on different environment.  I have sucessfully completed the following:
    1.     Foundation Services/Shared Services installed and up and running and users/groups successfully migrated.
    2.     Essbase and EAS installed and up and running.  All Essbase applications (except for the Planning apps), have been successfully migrated from 9.3.3 to 11.1.2.2.
    3.     Planning has been installed and is up and running.  While there are no Planning apps in the new system, I can open the Planning Administrator via WorkSpace.
So the next step is to get my Planning apps moved/migrated from the 9.3.3 environment to the new 11.1.2.2.
To complicate matters, we are switching from SQL Server repository in 9.3.3 to Oracle in our new 11.1.2.2.  So the first thing we did was to create a new Oracle schema for our Planning app repository and using SQL Developer migrate wizard, we copied/migrated the tables and data from the old SQL Server to Oracle.  It appears that all the tables and data were successfully copied into Oracle.
Our old Planning application is called PlanTest. The application owner is a native user called planadm.  My intended migration plan (and my questions) are:
    1.     Do I create a new blank Planning app called PlanTest using native account planamd in 11.1.2.2?
    2.     If I use my new Oracle repository for this blank app, will it wipe out the old converted data or will it try to upgrade/migrate it?
    3.     Or..should I take a backup of my new converted repository first.  Then drop/recreate the Oracle Schema (so no tables) and let Planning build the repository when I create the blank Planning app?  Then capture the owner SID in the new HSP_USER table.  Stop Planning. Then overlay the database backup of 9.3.3 over the newly created repository and replace the owner SID info. Then Restart Planning.
** My concern:  Is the Planning app repository table structures the same between 9.3.3 and 11.1.2.2?
    4.     Open Planning and hope that the application PlanTest appears!
    5.     Use Planning upgrade Wizard to finish the migration and upgrade the repository.
    6.     Push/Create app to Essbase.
    7.     Export data from old app to .txt load file and reload into new Planning cube.
    8.     Convert/Migrate Business Rules using info from John's blog.
I am sure I missed something.  Any suggestions or comments on these steps would be appreciated.  Bottom line is I need to get this app (and several others) migrated successfully with all metadata, security, forms, rules etc. working.  Rebuilding them from scratch is NOT an option.
Also, to clarify.  This is a Classic Planning app.  We are not using EPMA.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Following the steps, the upgrade/migration of the Planning application worked successfully.  The app and forms were all migrated and was able to push to Essbase application successfully.  The only issue was security.  While the users/groups seem to appear in the migrated Planning app, none of their security access/filter info migrated.  We have Planning security defined down to the member level in the application and it appears none of that successfully migrated, so we would need to manually re-assign all of that security.  Any thoughts of what may have happend or step I may have missed?
Also have moved on to attempt migration of the Business Rules to Calc Manager.  Using John's 2nd alternative method from his blog, I export the rule from 9.3.3 EAS to HBRRules.xml file, copy it to the appropriate 11.1.2.2 folder, select "Migrate" on the PlanTest planning app in Calc Manager, select the app and Plan type and all seems well with the Import screen even indicating that the Rule and variables were Inserted.  But I never see the rule appear.  Could this be an "owner" issue or is there something I need to do to the .xml file before the migration step?

  • How to lock a period in Essbase but the app is Planning app?

    Hi!
I am using Planning v11.1.1.3 and have a Planning app.
The requirement is that user can read/write data directly to Essbase via Smartview. I lock a particular period, e.g. Oct, in Scenario dimension so the user cannot write data to Oct in Planning, but how do stop user to write data to Oct via Smartview?
The user has 'Server Access' for Essbase, 'Interactive User' and 'Analytic Services Write Access' for Planning.
If I create a additional filter to lock 'Oct' in Essbase, it seems the user can still write to 'Oct'.
Appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this.
    Thanks.

First Smartview is 2 things. Its a planning interface and an Essbase interface.
So users can access Planning forms and still have the right security. I assume you mean users are interfacing Essbase directly to the same cube that is your planning cube so basically bypassing Planning that controls things
you can push the filters from Planning to Essbase but Planning controls the periods from the scenario. And If I remember correctly this is not passed to Essbase.
    So your options are 1
    1) dont let users access Essbase directly and force them to use Planning forms in Smartview
    2) don't push Planning security filters to Essbase and try to replicaate all the security again in Essbase. But the tools is not design for this and refreshing will wipe out all your hardwork so be very very careful
    3) push Oracle/Hyperion to finally fix the way they do security to make it more unified process once and for all

  • Error during EPMA planning app deployment

    Hello Experts,
I am trying to deploy an EPMA Planning application through Workspace. EPM version is 11.1.2.3
Below is the error that is getting thrown while deployment (with selecting options - "Refresh Outline", "Create Security Filters" & "Full Deploy"):
Creating Security Filters...: Index: 1, Size: 1 An Exception occurred during Application deployment.: Index: 1, Size: 1
Any idea what should be exact meaning of this error/exception?
    Regards,
    Santy.

    Hi Santy,
Does it deploy if you remove the Security filter option, what is the error message if you deploy just the security filters from within the planning app and not epma, if it is generates an error from the planning app there should then be some information in the planning and essbase logs.
    Cheers

  • Can't open a Planning App as a non-admin user..

    All,
I am having trouble getting a non-administrator to open/view a Planning application. I have a Test_User in Shared Services, and as long as I provision him to be an administrator for my Planning app, he is able to access it fine, view dataforms etc. But as soon as I change him to an interactive user or planner , he is no longer able to access the app. In the latter case instead of opening up the app and displaying the list of available dataforms, I get an error message saying, "An error occured while processing this page, please check log for details."
I get the above problem both while trying to access the app in workspace or directly thru the Planning URL.
This problem doesn't extend to opening dimension or application libraries. I.e. i can get all user types to access these EPM libraries, as long as they are provisioned to be 'Dim Editor' / 'App Creator' in Global Rules.
I think I am making some basic error with the app access, but can't put a finger on it.
    Appreciate any help.
    thanks,
    Akshay

    Hi,
Did you check if your app is set to maintenance mode in planning web console?
-Go for Administration-->application settings--->Application maintenance mode-->make sure the application is enabled for "all users".
If this happens for the first time after you create users, the security might not have refreshed to planning from shared services.
-Go for Administration-->Dimensions-->select a member-->assign access-->choose" Migrate Identites" ( this should refresh the security from shared services to planning).
    Hope this helps,
    -Nra

  • Unable to See Planning App in EAS

    Planning 11.1.1.3
New application created today. Native user in local Shared Services. Provisioned with all access to Planning. Created dimensions, created first form. Cannot see users to give access to form. New BR cannot see new Outline. Admin cannot see Planning cube in EAS at all. Cannot assign new owner to application. No users are seen by Application (registered) in Shared Services.
Other planning apps exist, and such objects are visible. Copied provisioning from one app to the new app. Synchronized security in EAS. Still invisible.

If other application are working without any problem, can you not delete the planning application and try again, something may have gone wrong.
If not can you refresh planning? Can you provision any users against the application in Shared Services
    Cheers

  • Planning App not appearing in Workspace

I just installed many of the 11.1.1.3 products (Workspace, HSS, Essbase, Planning, and the reporting tools) and overall everything seems to be working except that I can't see a new Planning app in Workspace. I created the app by using the AppWizard.jsp because Classic Application did not appear in Workspace even though I have full admin rights to all the products. I thought maybe if I created it through the AppWizard it would appear but I still don't see it. I can log in using the direct Planning link and all looks well from that end. Any ideas as to why it won't show up in Workspace? Thanks.

  • Can't create new Mobile App on preview portal

    Hi all,
I'm really excited about the new Mobile App feature in the preview portal and want to get started on something. I went to the portal, clicked in to create a new Mobile App and entered the name and service plan then clicked create. The dots started blinking
and then nothing happened. I've tried it in Safari, Chrome, and IE with the same results. I've tried it with private and non-private browsing. My account is a Partner subscription that allows $100/month in Azure credits. Has anyone else had this problem? Any
idea how to mitigate it and get to coding my new mobile app? Thanks for any help!
    jared

The restriction has been removed. You should be able to use any valid name for your resource group now.
I was unable to create a mobile app using the defaults. I had to create a new service plan and Resource group.
Also, the docs on resource groups give me a 404. I have no idea what a resource group or service plan even are.
