  • Creating a public folder for multiple computers

I am putting together my home media center. We have a number of computers and would like to use one central folder on our server to house all our media. Is there a way to have each individual computer store all music in that folder, and point to that same folder to play music? I just want to make sure I set it up correctly. currently I am able to get the second computer to recognize a share folder on another computer, but will not recognize the music in the folder.

  • Problem with public folder initialization on exchange load generator 2010

    hi,
we need to make some stress charge for a migration between 2010 and 2013. Before that we need to populate our exchange 2010 lab with full mailbox and public folders. So we tried Exchange load generator 2010 for this task ( initialization only).
Loadgen did well for the mailbox but we have some problems with the public folders. we have an empty public folder database and the user we run loadgen with has organization admin and public folder management right. the problem is that when we run this command
(for initializing public folder only, mailbox's done) :
    loadgencmd.exe /p /c config.xml /add trace.log
IT create only one public folder with the user we run loadgen with, and 5-8 objects inside. We need that It create a public folder for each users it created before. Maybe we do not understand loadgen
    correctly...

    I found my solution :
customize the <PublicStoreProfile> section in the configuration file as follows:
     <PublicStoreProfile>
        <MessageFiles />
        <TopLevelFolderCount>1</TopLevelFolderCount>
        <NonTopLevelFolderCount>1</NonTopLevelFolderCount>
        <MinimumFolderDepth>1</MinimumFolderDepth>
        <AverageFolderDepth>2</AverageFolderDepth>
        <MaximumFolderDepth>3</MaximumFolderDepth>
        <MinimumMessageCount>5</MinimumMessageCount>
        <AverageMessageCount>10</AverageMessageCount>
        <MaximumMessageCount>15</MaximumMessageCount>
        <UseOrdinalFolderName>false</UseOrdinalFolderName>
      </PublicStoreProfile>
Simply put differents values for each variables.

  • Error when moving Exchange Public Folder Tree Hierarchy

    Hello,
I am during the transition from Exchange 2003 to 2007.
At the end of migrating Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 I have moved all the mailboxes, Public and System Folders have been replicated and moved, Mailbox Store and Public Store had been removed, Routing Connectors removed ...
I then created new Public Folder Container in Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) and I attempted to drag and drop the Public Folder Tree Hierarchy from old Administrative Group to Exchange Administrative Group using ESM 2003.
During this I got the following error:
    Access Denied.
    Facility: LDAP Provider
    ID no: 8007005
    Exchange System Manager
Every public and system folders works fine (replicated to Exchange 2007), but the Public Folder Hierarchy is still on Exchange 2003.
Anyone has any idea how to continue decommission of Exchange 2003?
    Regards,
    Jacek

As I wrote before, when I tried to drag and drop the Public Folder Tree Hierarchy, I used account which had delegated Exchange Full Administrator role in Exchange 2003 and was also member of Enterprise Admins / Domain Admins in AD and Exchange Organization
Administrators in Exchange 2007. According to Sembee suggestion, it is more than needed ...
I think about manual deleting Public Folder Tree Hierarchy object from old Administrative Group (using ADSIEdit) and then recreating the new one in Exchange Administrative Group - using the following steps:
    http://blog.bruteforcetech.com/archives/766
But I'm not sure if System Folders will be accessible then. There are many Outlook 2003 in organization, so "old" OAB access is necessary ...
I can take report of permissions for the problematic Public Folder Tree Hierarchy object using dsacls.exe, if needed (there are many ACEs in DACL on them). I can also check Effective Permission for user I used for moving.
But in both cases, I don't have any reference. I mean correct permission set for such object or necessary permission set for user used for moving.

  • Unable to set Public Folder Permissions

I have created a Public Folder Mailbox and Public Folder. When I go to set permissions via the EAC, the "User" field is grayed out...when I Browse for a user I can search and select a user, but that user is not carried over to the User field where
you would set permissions.  I am unable to see ANYYONE with permissions via the EAC. However, when I access my Public Folders in Outlook 2013, I and a co-worker both have "Author" level permissions.
I am an Administrator on the system and have added myself to the Public Folders role and anything else that looked even remotely related :-o
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi,
We can try settings the permission on the specific folders by using the exFolders tool:

  • Mysterious phantom Public folder

On two of my Macs running Leopard, I have discovered a directory named Public in an odd location: the startup hard drive's root directory. Other odd things about it are that it is invisible from the Finder but visible to the ls command in Terminal/bash. It has read permission turned on for all users, but I can't look into it from Terminal using cd or ls. When I try, it gives an "Operation not permitted" error after about a 20 second pause. I checked four other Macs running Leopard and didn't see this folder. Both of the machines that have it also experience long pauses with spinning pizza of death cursors pretty frequently, and I wonder if this is related to the pause I got when I tried to look into the folder with cd. Maybe Spotlight keeps trying to index it or something. Any ideas where this came from?

    Durkee wrote:
I can't cd into it, even with sudo.
Directory Utility didn't show any mounts.
I was able to rename it with sudo. After I rebooted, the renamed one looked like a normal, empty folder, visible even in the Finder. There was a new Public folder with all the same odd properties, so whatever created it is still running.
I tried lsof and it did not list any open files inside that folder.
I have used a bittorrent client on this machine: Tomato Torrent. Not recently though.
You can safely delete the renamed folder. Yes, whatever is creating the Public folder is active.
Sometimes bit-torrent stuff lives on in a computer.
If the system created a new Public folder, check the console logs for some indication of what happened.
    Also in a terminal, run
    sudo dmesg > desktop/bootlog.txt
and after the password, you should see a file on the desktop.
    It contains some boot information.
If you rename the new Public folder again and reboot and then run the above dmesg command it may also show what is going on if the folder is restored during boot.

Using sharepoints you can create a public folder anywhere on your mac. You can also setup an external volume as a sharepoint on your network.

  • [E2010] [EWS] [C#] [Windows]: How do I assign public folder Permission to a distribution Group

    Hi,
I have a little C# Form Application which should be create a Public Folder and assign permission for a Distribution Group in Exchange 2010.
I have found following in the EWS Documentation:
     FolderPermission fp = new FolderPermission();
     fp.UserId.PrimarySmtpAddress = "[email protected]";
If i try this with a User Email it works as well. But if I try to set a Email address from a Distribution Group it will throw this Error:
    "Invailid UserID"
Does anybody know, how to set Folder Permissions to a Distribution Group?
    Thanks,
    Julian

You can't set permission on an Item in a Public folder the only level you can set the permissions at are on the folder. Your probably better of using a Distribution Group which you can create via the Exchange Management Shell
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-AU/library/aa998856(v=exchg.150).aspx l. You can then set rights on who can use this distribution group and it will also be visible in the GAL
    etc.

  • Exchange 2013 Public Folder Migration Not Listed

I started a public folder migration from my 2010 SP3 Exchange server to my new 2013 SP1 Exchange server. Somewhere during the process I failed. Not sure where but I am now at the point where if I try to create a new public folder on teh 2013 box i get a
    warning like this.
An existing Public Folder deployment has been detected. To migrate existing Public Folder data, create new Public Folder mailbox using -HoldForMigration switch.
So I then run Get-PublicFoldermIgrationRequest to see what is still waiting... I get no migration listed in Exchange Management Shell.
I would like to find the place in AD or in the Server that thinks there is still an active request out there and remove it so I can start again with a clean slate. How do I do that?
    Thanks!

    Hi Zulea,
This is a known issue, I recommend you refer to the following article to resolve the issue:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3004062/en-us
    Cause:
This problem occurs when the Exchange organization coexists with an earlier version of Exchange Server, and one or more public folder databases from the earlier version of Exchange still exist.
    Resolution:
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Create the mailbox by using the -HoldForMigration switch:
This option lets an administrator create a public folder mailbox in order to begin a migration from the existing public folders:
    Open the Exchange Management Shell.
Run the following cmdlet to create the public folder mailbox:
New-Mailbox "Public Folder Mailbox" -PublicFolder -HoldForMigration
Method 2: Remove all public folder databases from earlier versions of Exchange Server
To remove existing public folder databases, see the following TechNet websites, as appropriate for the version of Exchange that an existing public folder resides on.
    Exchange 2010:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883(v=exchg.141).aspx
          (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883(v=exchg.141).aspx)
    Exchange 2007:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998329(v=EXCHG.80).aspx
          (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998329(v=EXCHG.80).aspx)
Create the public folder mailbox by using either the Exchange Admin Center (EAC) or the Exchange Management Shell (EMS). To do this, see the following TechNet website:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj552410(v=exchg.150).aspx

  • Public Folder Mailbox- Missing Primary Hierarchy Exchange 2013

    Hi guys,
I was attempting to create a Public Folder using the Exchange Admin Center but when i tried it came up with the error "Couldn't find the public folder mailbox."
When I went back to check on the Public Folder Mailbox that I had created I noticed that there was no Primary Hierarchy even though Secondary Hierarchy where visible.
Is it Possible to recreate the Primary or change one of the existing Secondaries.

I can assure you that user permissions, server configurations are ok; please, help me.

  • MT Exchange 2013 and Public Folder Limits

So having some real trouble trying to digest this data from a multi-tenant perspective.
    Total public folders in hierarchy
    10,000
Although you can create more than 10,000 public folders, it isn’t supported. Create
    a Public Folder
    Sub-folders under the parent folder
    10,000
Although you can create more than 10,000 sub-folders under a parent folder, it isn’t supported.FolderHierarchyChildrenCountReceiveQuota parameter on the Set-Mailbox cmdlet.
So if my hierarchy consists of root folders 0-9,A-Z.  Then below those top levels I place tenant domain level folders.  Then below that I actually have folders for tenant data.  Which of the above category applies?  Sub-folders under
the parent folder is somewhat misleading?  Does that mean in my above scenario I would only have 36 "parent" folders then would be able to have a total of 10k subfolders under those parents?
Or does it effectively mean 10k folders, that is all.  One parent folder and 9,999 sub-folders?  Or some combination of the two?
I had very high expectations for the redesigned public folders with incorporation into the DAG, but this solution seems MUCH less scalable and flexible then the legacy design.  Additionally the recommendation of 2k concurrent users per PF mailbox, with
a max number of PF mailboxes at 100 effectively sets an org limit of 200k total mailboxes.
I can't help but feel this is just another nail in the coffin of non O365 Exchange resellers.

    Hi,
Based on my research,  the public folder size can be up to 100GB in the hosted Exchange 2013 environment:
    http://www.wisnet.com/blog/hosted-exchange-2013-is-available-now/
As long as the total number is beyond the limit, we can at most have 100 public folder mailboxes ,10k public folders, 10k subfolders under one public folder and 200 concurrent users for one public folder mailboxes.
For more information about the public folders in Exchange 2013, you can refer to the following articles:

Did we migrate to Exchange 2013 from legacy?
We cannot starting recreating Public Folders on Exchange Server 2013 until all users have been migrated to Exchange Server 2013. For how to migrate from legacy Public Folders to Exchange Server 2013 Public Folders, see

  • Importing contacts into Public Folder email contact list under the folder

I am able to create a public folder and add a blank contacts list
    1. How to do I import external contacts into the public folders contact list?
    * I imported all external contacts via CSV into the GAL and then manually added all of them to my contacts list. I then moved them form my contacts to the public folders contact list.
There has to be a easier way.
    2. How come I can't show the public folders contact list in Favorites? I can see the public folder but not the contacts list in that public folder even after I add it to my favorites.

    Hi,
You may export the contacts from the Personal contact folder and then import it to the Public folder.
The following article for your reference:
    Export contacts
You can export contacts to a file that can then be imported into other applications, such as Web mail clients, Excel spreadsheets, or database applications. The most common export file format is a comma separated value (CSV) file.
    Import contacts
Contacts can be imported into Outlook from other applications or from exported Outlook contacts. These instructions assume that you have already exported the contacts from the other application, such as a Web client, Excel spreadsheet, or database application.
    Hope this helps!
