Creating a recovery drive for a K430 computer

Hello-I have a K430 desktop computer with a1TB HDD,12 GB Memory and Win8 64 bits. I used a !TB Seagate USB Drive for C drive backup and a 2GB Flash drive for Personal Document backup. I created a HDD image backup and a backup of my personal documents using the Lenovo procedure.. I understand that I need either a WIN8 disk or Recovery drive to boot and re-install my image file.
I am having problems creating a Recovery Drive. I formatted the drive to NTFS and verified that the Flash Drive was recognized by my computer. I searched for Recovery Drive.exe and it appeared. However, my flash drive did not appear on the Recovery window and the Next button remained greyed out. I will check and see if I have a recovery partition.Have you developed a fix for this problem? If so, please let me know. Thanks.

Updating Creating a recovery drive for a K430 Computer
Hello-I obtained a copy of Microsoft's Windows  Create a USB recovery drive and discovered that I do not have a recovery partition. After entering recimg/showcurrent  in a command prompt, I received a message stating that there is no active custom recovery image.
I attempted to create a recovery partition by entering mkdir C:\RefreshImage and recimg-Create C:\RefreshImage after the Command Prompt. This resulted in the following error message: recimg-createIMage is not recognized as an internal or external command. I have reported this problem to Microsoft also. If you are aware of a fix for this problem, please let me know. Thanks.

  • Twist - Create a recovery drive.

I'm trying to create a recovery drive on the Twist I just received but, when I go to do so I receive the following error:
"We can't create a recovery drive on this PC
Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows installation disc or media"
The computer did not come with recovery media but has recovery partitions that aren't assigned drive letters. I called support and told them it wouldn't work and they didn't even try to troubleshoot. Instead they attempted to look up a part number for the recovery discs, which they could not find. Has anyone else run into this or a similar problem?
I'm also not able to even create a repair disc, when I attempt to do so I receive the following error:
Windows was unable to parse the requested XML data.

    Hey there dann,
What version of Windows 8 are you using? It appears you may need to the Window 8 disc to be able to create the recovery drive because it needs files that are not on your system. I found those part numbers for the Windows 8 recovery media for you.
    04T7196 - Win 8 64 Bit US
    04T7223 - Win 8 Pro 64 Bit US
Additional part numbers can be found here for all system parts and recovery media for you the Twist (s230u). If you contact service back they should be able to get the media sent to you. Good Luck.

    Hi guys,
Didn't have much luck in MS forums, maybe somebody here knows?
Whenever I try to create a recovery drive I find that "We can't create a recovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows installation disc or media."
    Uh?
Is a fresh Windows 8 x64 (RTM) installation. Only thing that I can think of is it has UEFI and Secure Boot enabled.
If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

  • HP Envy Laptop (Win8.1) Can't Create USB Recovery Drive

    Hello fellow HP PC users;
I was wondering if anyone with a DVD drive equiped laptop had successfully created a USB Recovery Set?
I just spent the last 2 days trying to do this on my new laptop - to no avail (HP nag messaged me that it was important to copy the D:/ drive recovery partition to a USB or DVD  discs) . I'm not big on CD/DVD backups as, in the past, I've experienced unwanted failures when previousl attempting a factory restore, so I wanted to use a USB drive for this backup. The HP utility for recovery disc creation only produced a gold spinning wheel/disc when a USB drive was inserted and this continued for hrs. Several tries with different USBs and ports produced similar non-results.
Today I spent an hour with Roger and Siva of HP Tech Support. I initially gave Roger a list of all of the things I had tried and I think we hit it off, as he was particularly excited about the stuff I knew, that he was unaware of. He promptly agreed that I had done everything possible to resolve the issue and he said he would send me a USB Recovery Set. This had to be authorized by his Supervisor Siva. After a half an hour on hold Siva came on the line to confirm my mailing info and said that he was authorizing the shipping of a set of recovery DVDs and that he would wave the normal $40 charge. When I asked why he wasn't sending me a USB copy, he said that because my laptop came with a DVD drive he was only authorized to mail DVDs. Exhausted, I capitulated and said "O.K. then .... go ahead and make my day and send me the DVDs!"  Nontheless, I will go to bed crying for the next few nights because I wasn't able to make/get a USB copy.
If anyone has any other info on this problem I would be interested to here about it.
    Thanks, stillgolfing

You are allowed to "make" only one set. You haven't made one yet.
I just created my Recovery USB for  Envy 15t- j100  using>> PNY Turbo 3.0 - so it is not limited to 2.0 flash drives.
I first tried with a Sandisk Extreme 3.0 which produced the same thing that you experienced... no matter what I tried. (I actually was just testing it since many had reported not being able to use that model)
I did discover that even with the PNY it would only work if I waited to insert it when Recovery Manager was at the screen where you choose usb or cd/dvd.

Good luck and you are welcome.
Like I said, I bought one of their inexpensive enclosures and now can use the hard drive just as a source for the files that are on it...my external drives are much larger and faster so I just plug that drive in when I need something from it.

  • First time using external hard drive for backup of computer....

First time using external hard drive for backup of computer....it asks "Do do you want to erase disk?" In order to proceed, I have to say "yes" ... is that what I want to do? ...Seems like I'm skipping a step...

To use Disk Utilities, attach the drive, open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utilities and then highlight the LaCie drive in the left panel of the DU window.  In the right panel, choose the Partition button top center of the pane.  Then decide how many partitions you want on the drive, one is just fine.
Then choose the format, the default is Mac OS Extended (Journaled) which is prefered.
Then name the partition or drive.
Then choose the partition table, the default is GUID which is prefered.
Then Apply and you will get to confirm that you want to erase and format the drive.
Quit DU and you are ready to go.

  • Do I need to create a recovery file for my new laptop if there is a HP recovery

    I have just bought a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC 15 - n219 sa
Serial : [Edited for Personal Information]
    Product # : F9U67EA#ABU
    There is a recovery partition.
I am a bit confused on the issue of recovery file creation. I have found instructions on youtube on the the creation of an image of the laptop but I wonder why I need to do that given there is a HP recovery manager.
Although I do not really know what the manager does.
Can anyone tell me what the best strategy is regarding recovery files for this laptop taking in to account the partition.
After I have done this I wish to remove macfee and install the Norton I bought. Do I need to disable the macafee? If so how do I do this?
Can I remove the macefee to save space on the hard drive?
If you can help with these questions that would be much appreciate.
I gues I just want to do the right thing with this new laptop and avoid deleting too much whilst savinbg space and having a protected machine I can restore.
    Thank you

    Hi,
You should definetely create a set of Recovery Media - this is your copy of the operating system.  An example of when you may need this would be if you had to replace the Hard Drive - details on creating this can be found on the following HP document.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03481733&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en
Regarding McAfee, you should uninstall this first before trying to install Norton - you can do this in the usual way by opening Windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for McAfee and select Uninstall.  When the process has completed, restart the notebook before installing Norton.

  • How to create a bootable drive for 10.5.8 Leopard?

I wonder if I can use the DVDs following the machine with the Old system of Leopard in order to create a boot drive when my system now is updated to 10.5.8?
Not sure where those recovery disks / system disks are.
Can I createa a boot disc or drive for 10.5.8 without the installation disks?
Or can I create a boot disc from the existing system files on my mac?

Ok. Just to be sure, my Macintosh Hd now contains 180GB of data and the total size is 240GB. So Superduper will "understand" based on my settings? that Superduper is only suppose to make a boot of the system and utilites not the entire 180 GB of information?
No, I'm afraid not. It will clone everything.
I forgot that you don't have the DVDs. This is how you'd get a system only boot drive.
    Simen Myrberget wrote:
I can make this with a partation size on another drive of about 40GB?
If you had a way of getting a fresh install I know from experience that a 20GB partition would work, (maybe smaller).
Best way is get an ext HD of at least 240GB ideally. Clone it, (and boot from it to check it works). Boot back into your regular drive and do the update on that. Is this clone your only backup strategy?

  • Can't Create USB Recovery Drive after Win 8.1 upgrade on Lenovo Twist

After upgrading to Win 8.1 and trying to create the usb recovery drive, I get this error:
"We can't create a reccovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To trouble shoot problems when your PC starts, use your window installation disk or media"
Can some give me a hint as to how to solve this?Thx.
    Solved!

I contacted Lenovo who sent me out a set of 4 Recovery disks. These disks fixed the problem but it meant wiping out the hard drive and reinstalling very thing from scratch. A new recovery partition is created and the discs reinstalled Win 8 which had to be updated. Then Win 8.1 could be installed. Everything is now working as it should.

  • Create bootable flash drive for Windows 8 in Boot Camp

I am running a Windows 8-based marine navigation program ("Coastal Explorer") in Boot Camp, on MacBook Air.  I would like to create a bootable flash drive for emergencies. Should it have Maverick or Windows 8 OS?  - or do I partition the key drive for both, with the Windows partition also containing a copy of the navigation software and maps for extra insurance? I guess the first question is, "Is this possible?" Then I would need to find information on how to create such a drive. All advice appreciated.

Windows drivers and Mac drivers have nothing to do with each other. So that's a no on your question.

  • Has anyone created a device driver for the DG101 Programmable Delay Generator?

I am wondering if anyone has written a LabVIEW driver for the DG101 Programmable Delay Generator third party device?

I have looked at the instrument driver network and there is nothing listed there.  The board comes with the source code for the device as well as a gui to run under windows but I am working on the PXI-8196 embedded controller running a RTOS so the .dll that comes with the board is not compatible.   I have been on the phone and email with NI over the last 3-4 weeks trying to figure out how to import the .dll, how to wrap the .dll, and how to create a new .dll.  I spoke with someone yesterday and they told me that I would have to write a register level interface driver to work with the board and that it is very difficult for even the most experienced person.  They suggested I outsource it but I was just curious, seeing that this board belongs to a very small community of programmable delay generators, that someone may have written a driver that is available.

    Hi:
If the HP Recovery Manager came installed with your other programs, there should be an option to create recovery disks.
If you don't have this program, then you may be able to order a set of recovery disks from HP for your notebook.
Call HP Technical Support for the country you live in at the link below.  If they have a separate number for business PC's/notebooks, call that number.
Inform the customer services rep you need to order a set of quick restore disks for your notebook.
You will need to provide the model number and serial number.
Costs range from free in the UK, to $10 in the USA, to more than $10 in other countries.
