Creating a safe area for laser/ink jet printers

Hi, I was just wondering - when using Illustrator, how does one know where the safe areas (i.e printable areas) are when using a standard desktop inkjet printer? Im setting up loads of files for A3 printouts and want to fit as much on the pages as possible but don't want them to be clipped.

Both Canon Ink Jet Printers are printing equally horribly

I have three printers. A Canon S-9000, Canon iP6700, and Brother Color Laser HL4040. Although I don't usually use the Brother for photos, I did print one as a test and color looks a lot like what is on my monitor. Both Canon ink jets are printing so poorly it looks like some sort of wild posterization art. The facial tones are watermelon green. In the last week, I have tried everything I can think off. I started from scratch in the Print Preferences and deleted both printers and brought them back in and downloaded the newest drivers from Canon. I did notice that my only option was "Print with Canon IJ Printer" on the window under Name/Location/Print Using. Then when you open the Print Queue and click the blue "INFO" button and then click the Driver Tab, Print Using:the radial button after that where you would choose a driver is grayed out. Not sure if that was always so, since I really never have had a problem printing before. Not sure when or how I got in this mess. I have been on 10.5.6 for a while now and can't think of anything that has changed. It has been a couple of weeks since I have printed a photo. All the photos have been off slightly since going to Leopard, but this is more than slightly. I am using genuine Canon inks. All the ink levels are fine and the nozzle checks look fine. All colors are printing well. It's not mechanical and both printers are printing equally horrific. It doesn't matter if I print from Photoshop CS, iPhoto, Canon DPP, or Preview. However... yesterday I downloaded a different app to try to print from called Easy Photoprint and I printed one 4x6 that was almost acceptable except it was landscape mode and part of the photo didn't get on the paper but then the next one was back to the awful printing and I can't duplicate the one good one but it was enough to let me know for sure it's not mechanical or ink related. I have messed with all the usual settings in Photoshop but it can't be that since printing out of iPhoto and Preview produce identical results. What am I missing here?

I bought a Canon i960 with my G5 in early 2004. Both were poor purchases. The G5 because I spent several hundreds of dollars to have Apple replace the cpu which did not solve the problems I was having (and I have been using Macs since 1984). The Canon printer stopped working after some 2.5 years because the waste ink tank was filled. It costs almost half of the original purchase price to have it serviced. Canon does not clearly tell you that this will happen, and I had average use of my printer. All Canon will do for you is to offer a discount on another printer. Canon makes good printers, but I recommend that you consider another manufacturer, and read the small print to determine how long it will last according to your particular use.

How to create a text area for a blog that scrolls independent of the webpage.

I want to create a boxed area (Middle 2/3 of page) with text in muse that scrolls up and down independently of the webpage itself. I am trying to create a blog posting on the page and the reader can scroll down on the text but the page (background image) stays static. See Shades link for example. This is a retail store using the same function for posting product.

i'm trying to do the same thing, but with a section of images that scrolls independently of the rest of the page. i haven't found any way to achieve this yet, but i will keep looking and update you if i find anything. good luck!

Trying to create two login areas for one site

I'm currently creating two different login areas for the site. One for my client to update content and one as a media/press area for downloads. Both areas work fine but it seems I can only do one login area because even if I use a different Connection script, one login area overtakes the other and you
're stuck with one setup instead of two. How can I work this so each area has its' own separate login area?

Instead of having two login forms, have one login form and utilize the user level controls. You will need to go to the login settings page and set/use the Level field on the database tab and then configure the user levels on the user levels tab.
You simply route users to different subdirectories and then secure the files for those two user directories using different user level permissions.
This removes the needs to maintain multiple connection files.
That said, do your two different login forms have different names? Different ids? Different targets/actions?

Is there a way to create a safe list for some of my cookies?

I would like to create a safe list of cookies so I can clear all the rest at one shot without searching through the whole list. Can this be done in Firefox?

Conecting Ink Jet Printers

Could be an Ink Jet printer, such as Epson 777i or Epson CX 3500, be "shared" with the Mac Os X Server?
I don´t have any skills on Server, and I am looking for the service.

I don't use the Print Services much but the problem with USB printers seem to be that they are mostly non-postscript and, like the Epson C64 for example, do not use printer PPDs (Epson use plug-ins). This means that clients are not able to access the 'extended features' of the printers because it only shows up as a 'generic' printer. This differentiates sharing a USB printer on the server compared to sharing it off an ordinary os x machine.
However...
...you can temporarily turn your server into an 'ordinary' OS X machine, switch on the normal USB printer sharing, then turn it back into a server, and voila clients can now access all the USB printer's features - and control it via the Print Services queues.
Disclaimer
I use this successfully but I have not used it in combination with other printers so I do not know if there are any unseen repercussions. If you want to try this, it is totally at your own risk...
In Terminal, type...
cd /System/Library/CoreServices
sudo mv ServerVersion.plist oldServerVersion.plist
Log out as the current user (no need to restart), then log back in - note that it displays the normal OS X login window rather than the Server login window.
In System Preferences-> Print & Fax, you can now activate the USB printer sharing (same as in normal os x).
Then, in Terminal, reverse back to the Server...
cd /System/Library/CoreServices
sudo mv oldServerVersion.plist ServerVersion.plist
Log out and log in again.
The USB printer now appears in the printer queue and (as long as you installed the printer driver on server and clients) all its features are accessible.
Once again, this is not an approved Apple mod, you do it at your own risk.

This would be the solution, however the client would like groups to be able to use the printer at different times(i.e.- Group1 has access from 9-5 and Group2 has access from 8-3). Would three printers pointed at the same IP be pooled together and work
properly with different permissions?

Creating depreciation area for non leading ledger

Hi,
I want to configurate a depreciation area for a non-leading ledger. This is my scenario:
01-Accounting area leading ledger. Group legder: 0L (on line)
02- Accounintg area non leading ledger. Group ledger N1 (Area posts APC only directly)
03-Depreciation non leading ledger. Grouo ledger N1 (Area posts depreciation only)
Is it correct to created this 2 areas for non leading ledger?

additionally to my colleagues:
For each additional set of accounting principles, you create one real and one derived depreciation area.
Real Depreciation Area:
1. In Customizing for Financial Accounting (New), choose Asset Accounting - Valuation - Depreciation Areas -Define Depreciation Areas.
2. Assign both depreciation areas to the same ledger group.
The ledger group you assign them to is not allowed to contain the leading ledger.
3. In the Posting in G/L field, choose Area Posts Depreciation Only.
Derived Depreciation Area:
It is easiest to create the derived depreciation area using the Wizard.
4. In Customizing for Financial Accounting (New), choose Asset Accounting - Valuation - Depreciation Areas - Set Up Areas for Parallel Valuation.
5. In the Posting in G/L field, choose Area Posts APC Only. Specify that this derived depreciation area represents the difference between the real depreciation area for parallel accounting and the
master depreciation area.
You do not have to set up a separate account set for these new depreciation areas. Instead you use the account set of the master depreciation area. In this scenario, you do not have to create any new accounts in the chart of accounts or in the company code. You also do not have to create a new financial statement version.
So a typical dep.area setting for a parallel ledger at you is like:

Creating safe sandbox for 3rd party jars

I'm creating a tool which lets 3rd parties distribute and run their code within my framework. Because I cannot gurauntee the source of various libraries the user decides to run, I cannot prevent malicious code from hacking their systems.
Is there a way for me to limit the capability of the 3rd party classes? I'd like to create a safe sandbox for the classes to play in, but not allow them to read the client's system files, write data outside the sandbox, or otherwise damage the client system.
Can I turn off parts of the VM? If I were to force 3rd parties to inherit from Applet would that limit their use of the client system?

You can extend java.lang.SecurityManager -- the only method you need to override is checkPermission, since all the others thunk to it -- set the SecurityManager using System.setSecurityManager, and run untrusted code in a separate thread only. The Security Manager can check to see if the calling thread is the trusted one; if so, it can grant all permissions, otherwise it can grant only those you want to give.

My Movies Are Outside The TV-Safe Area

How can I get my movies that I add onto iDVD to stay within the TV safe area? I have widescreen televisions throughout the house, but my movies are getting cut off on all of them.
If I add the movies as slideshows, the video stays within the tv-safe area, but the sound is scratchy and distorted.
So how can I get the movies to show within the tv safe area and have suitable sound? Right now I have to sacrifice one for the other and that is not acceptable.

Tried burning again after dropping the video in as a slideshow and turned the slideshow volume all the way down. Of course when I did that there was no music. But on any other volume setting the music is scratchy and sounds awful.
I also again tried to change the size of the video in Quicktime using the Command J option, and added the video to iDVD as a movie. Again the sound was flawless, but the video was still cutting off parts of the text and picture. I cannot find a TV safe area for movies in iDVD like it offers for slides in the slideshow option.
Cannot seem to get help anywhere. Is nobody else having their video cut off?

One Controlling Area for Two CoCds with different Fiscal Year variant

I have a Company code with FYV "A1" with 12 Periods (Apr - Mar) - Fiscal year start at Apr-01 and ends Mar-31 of the next year.
I have another company code with FYV "B1" with 12 Periods (Jan-Dec). - Fiscal year start at Jan-01 and ends Dec-31.
Chart of Accounts for both the company code is same.
Can I assign these two company codes to one Controlling Area?
When I try to assign the company codes, I got the following warning message.
Differing fiscal year variants: A1 - B1
Message no. KT297
Diagnosis
Fiscal year variant A1, controlling area 1000, does not agree with fiscal year variant B1, company code 5001.
The following entries must agree:
- Same number of posting periods (the number of special periods may vary)
- Same period limits
Procedure
Ensure that the fiscal year variants of the controlling area and the assigned company codes agree. If necessary, maintain the fiscal year variants.
1. What is the meaning of "Same period limits"?
2. Does it mean the fiscal year start and end date must be same?
3. What is the impact of the warning message?

Having same fiscal year variant is one of the requirements for different company codes to be under one controlling area.
The FYV for the company codes and the controlling area can have a different number of special periods. The number of posting periods must be the same.
Impact of warning message: You cannot create one controlling area for both company codes (1:n assignment).
If you like, you can create one controlling area for one compnay code with FYV A1 and another controlling area for another company code with FYV B1.

Yes we can create separate subject areas for dashboard prompt's alone. Here is a case
Say we need to create a constraint enabled prompt in our dashboard. So we bring in two dimension columns into the prompt.
When we run the prompt, the queries across these two dimensions go through a fact table (Because the only way two different dimensions can be joined is through a fact . This fact table is chosen by BI Server intelligently at run time and that can be set through Implicit Fact column also though). In this case there is a chance that some of the dimension rows might get skipped in the constrained prompt as all of the records might not be present in the fact table.
To mitigate this issue, we might want to create a separate subject area for dashboard prompts alone (using some fact less fact or by having a surrogate key in the 2nd dimension table etc).
