Creating a SP 2010 farm
Hi,
We have a staging environment which is a farm and We want to create a new production farm for share point 2010.(This farm is for Internet sites(public sites). not for Intranet as of now)
Can I know how do I know how many servers do we need (i mean 2 WFE servers are sufficlient or we may need 3,how many webapps servers, how many database servers.(I know normally they would go with clustering for atleast 2 SQL DB servers).
I saw some tools like HP tool for SP 2010 farm creation when given data it would give you the number of servers needed but not sure how it does.
I need to also show the client why I choose these may servers in a farm with support documents.
Can some one help me please.
what all do I need to back up a sharepoint staging 2010 server and restore to production server(which we would be creating as stated above).
(This farm is for Internet sites(public sites). not for Intranet as of now)
Thank you,
Vinay
Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to create a new SharePoint 2010 farm.
When we deploy a SharePoint farm, there are many considerations should be noticed.
First of all is the topologies for SharePoint, then the design of zones, a reverse proxy server and so on.
There is a good article about the Best practices for extranet environments (SharePoint Server 2010).
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh204611(v=office.14).aspx
You can also refer to the following article SharePoint Consulting Best Practices for a SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Deployment .

Random users receive an unexpected error when trying to access SharePoint 2010 farm.
Over the past few months we had occasions where established users trying to connect to my production SharePoint 2010 farm receive a correlation error page when trying to access the farm. I have two WFEs load balanced and the errors show up on either so it
doesn't happen on just on or the other. Specifically today it was three users in one office out of about 15 that were affected the rest were able to access the farm without any problems and there were no other reports from other offices. Each time the
user can eventually get in without any outside intervention it just seems to fix itself after a few hours. Each time it happens I search the logs for the CorrelationID(s) and everytime I see the same set of errors in the ULS logs. I also go check the Windows
Security logs to make sure they connected to the server okay. I've confirmed that the Web App's PortalSuperUserAccount and PortalSuperReaderAccount are both set correctly. Just looking to see if anyone has experienced this and figured what was happening and
how to fix it.
These are the log entries:

Sharepoint 2010 farm full backup
I do full backup to sharepoint 2010 farm, in logs write
Estimated disk space required: 94,251 MB.
Backup
Backup Method: Full
Top Component:
Configuration only: False
Progress updated: 5
Backup threads created: 10
at the start of the backup is the approximate size of
94,251 MB (about 92.05 GB), and in the end
all backup files weigh
19 GB. At the start and at the end of
all sizes backup files
do not match. Why?When you take backup, it require double size of the backup which is actually there, after this the compression happens.

Cloning SharePoint 2010 farm with everything same
Hi,
I have one SharePoint 2010 farm running live with SQL server 2008 R2. SharePoint is in one server, Active Directory is in one server and SQL database is in another server. I am creating a clone of the existing SP farm.
I have created a private network where all 3 clone servers are connected (SP, SQL and AD). Before that, I have updated windows server 2008 R2 with latest updates and service packs. I have prepared the AD server, SQL database server and SP server within the
private network with same name, same IP address and everything same as my production server where production server is live. I have installed SP and connected with SQL database and AD with only the configuration database i.e only Central Administration is
running now.
Now I am wondering what will be the next procedure to-
1. Install Nintex Workflow, MS Office Webapps and other related software in SP server and update all with latest packs.
2. How to deploy the SSL certificates.
3. How to restore the farm database.
4. How to update SP with latest packs OR any other issues may arise during this process.
Because, i want to keep my production server live while I prepare the clone environment.
Please give some advice.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
I have restored the farm backup and trying to access my web applications. I have two web applications one is Extranet and another is Intranet with SSL.
When I request for Intranet:-
It asks which authentication I want and display a drop down list where only Windows Authentication is there; there is no login prompt for AD users.
When I request for Extranet:-
It shows An unexpected error occured.
I get the following error in the event log-
1.
Error: RuntimeFilter: Failed to load all runtime filter configurations or the runtime filter component. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.
Event Type: Error
Event Source: SharePoint Foundation
Event Category: Devices
Event ID: 6631
Task Category: Web Parts
User: NT AUTHORITY\IUSR
2.
Load Control Template file/_controltemplate/ManageCrawlRulesControl.ascx failed. Thread was being aborted .
For any request it takes huge time to load including the central admin page.
Waiting for your guidance.
Thanks. -
Added a content database from Company A's SharePoint 2010 farm to ours
I have added a content database from a company (Company A) that we are acquiring. The sent it my SFTP, we downloaded it, added it to the sql db, and I added it as a content database to a SharePoint 2010 farm at our company (Company B) that is built
to the exact build that Company A's farm was built to.
Presently, the database resides in our Development Environment which is a single server that interacts with SQL, which resides on a different server.
If I copy the URL for the site collections from the Company A's DB (from the site collection list), the content renders perfectly, but when I attached the database to a Web application that was tied to a host header with an IP address on the DNS Server
here, at company B, the content doesn't render at all. The only thing that happens is that I am asked to enter my credentials. None of the farm credentials or my credentials (all domain users) work.
I have made myself via the farm administration password the owner of the site content, but I must be missing something, because I get this error from the page when I try to render it:
<b>Error message 401.2.: </b> Unauthorized; Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authenticatio methods enabled
on the web server.
I am wondering if this has something to do with the origin of the content, due to the fact that it was created on a different farm under completely different credentials and what I have to do to get it to work outside of the server as content
under a new Web app.Hi,
Do you have any update?
Best Regards,
Eric

Consuming 2013 people search results on a 2010 farm
Hi,
We currently have two 2010 farms A and B. Farm A contains all service applications as well as our Portal site collections. Farm B contains My Sites and uses the search service from farm A. This all works fine.
We want to upgrade to 2013 so we've built a new 2013 farm. We want to migrate My Sites from farm B and user profiles from farm A onto the new 2013 farm.
The problem is search. We want to leave the search service on 2010 farm A since all of the regular content is there, but then how can I federate people search results from the 2013 farm?
Another possibility might be to use the 2013 search service to crawl the 2010 farm A. If this is the best option how would I set this up?
Thanks.
- Ed.Hi,
I recommend migrate the content from 2010 to 2013:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263299(v=office.15).aspx This is your best option.
Here's where you'll upgrade the service application databases,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj839719(v=office.15).aspx
Make sure to start here though, just to dbl check the various steps of prepping for the database attach:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263026(v=office.15).aspx
In order to do either of the scenario's you mentioned, you'd have to create trust between the two farms, here is a great blog post about this topic and cross farm services in SharePoint 2010:

Is it possible to edit a custom form created in SPD 2010 in Infopath 2010
I created a custom form in SPD, and need to use Infopath to further modify the form using features not available in SPD. But I can't get Infopath to open the custom form. Even if I selected the custom form in SPD and then click "Edit with Infopath"
in the ribbon, it still opens the default form. From list ribbon, it also always opens the default form, there is no way I can pick the form I want to edit.
Just want to confirm - Infopath can only edit default form (from SPD or the list ribbon), but not any form custom built in SPD.
Correct?Hi QuickLaunch,
When edit SharePoint list forms in Infopath 2010, it always opens the original default Edit Form of the list.
It is impossible to edit a custom form created in SPD 2010 in Infopath 2010.
I suggest you Customizing SharePoint List Forms
in InfoPath 2010 directly.

BexAnalyser : compatibilty of WB created in Excel 2010 with Excel 2003
Hi all,
I'm trying to define the compatibilty of worbook created with BexAnalyser (Excel) 2003 with BexAnalyser 2010.
When a workbook is created in 2003 version and saved with 2010 version and opened with BexAnalyser 2003, I'm loosing the textelement (available by the Information bouton).
For displaying this information, I have to turn into creation mode and displaying the information by quoting the radio bouton in properties panel.
In an other case, when i'm creating a worbook with Bexanalyser 2010, i cannot open it with 2003.
Do you know if Worbooks that are created in BexAnalyser 2010 have a chance to be compatible (by two ways) with BexAnalyser 2003.
For information, we installed FEP 200 and FEP 201 and the SAPGUI is 720.
Thank you in advance.
CedricAs an update...
I verified the Control ID in Outlook 2003 to be 5621.
I have also downloaded a handy tool which is a bit more friendly for figuring out all the MS Office 2010 control ID's: http://www.add-in-express.com/downloads/mapi-store-events.php
However, the tool confirms that the ID for OOF in Outlook 2010 is STILL 5621.
Just for grins, I disabled the MailBox Cleanup utility on the same page by identifying it's control ID (7092), grey's out no problem. But I can't get the OOF button to go grey. -
What are the steps to change existing sharepoint 2010 farm database server to a new server
Hi
i have a sharepoint 2010 farm and backend with sqlserver2012 standard edition on windows server 2008 r2 server
now what are the steps to if want to connect this farm to a new sql server 2012 on windows server 2012 server and remove this existing server
adilYou have two options:
Use a SQL Alias and you will then need to swing all databases over to the new SQL Server
Don't use a SQL Alias and swing all but the Configuration and Administration databases to the new SQL Server, and individually re-configure Service Applications/Web Applications to use the new SQL Server. This will force you to keep the old SQL Server around.

How to move wsp files from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 farm
Hi experts,
we have a share point 2007 farm ,which we are migrating to share point 2010 using database attach upgrade process.i had run pre upgrade checker command and fixed all the issues. now i would like to move the wsp files that are deployed in share point
2007 farm to share point 2010 farm before i attach the content database. i don't have the code for the wsp files. please provide me with approach to move these custom solutions from 2007 to 2010 farm.
thanks in advance
subhash reddyHi,
you need the source code or the original .wsp files.
Ther's no easy way of moving the code without the .wsp files.

That's a question only the provider of the application can answer.
You could also take a look into the system event log if there is an indication for the reason of the application failing to start properly. It is possible that certain services are required for the application, but they do not run on the machine.
Another point is possibly missing rights. So you might want to test the application once with the option "Run as Admin" (right click menu item on the application shortcut or the exe itself).

SharePoint 2013 - consuming service applications from a 2010 farm?
Hi all,
This question relates to both SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013. Does anyone know whether it is possible/supported for a SharePoint 2013 farm to consume service applications from a 2010 farm (search/UPS etc. via SA publishing)?
There’s obviously plenty of documentation explaining how this would work the other way around (2010 farm consuming SA’s from a 2013 farm). Unfortunately, I haven’t found that much info on the scenario I’ve described above.
Many thanks
MattI don't know that it won't work, but in the article dealing with upgrades MS specifically recommends upgrading Services Farms first when upgrading mixed installs. So you should be able to share a 2013 service with a 2010 farm, but not the other way
around. You can read about it here:

Termstore changes are not getting reflected in the list items in SharePoint 2010 farm environment
Hi,
I had created managed metadata with termstores from central admin. Then I had created one list in which added a column of type managed metadata using the managed metadata which I had created. And also added few list items to this list.
The problem is that after updating a termstore the changes are not reflecting in the list items which were added before the update.
I have referred the following links:
http://www.paulgrimley.com/2011/02/managed-metadata-changes-not-applied-to.html
http://davidfrette.wordpress.com/2010/05/26/taxonomy-update-scheduler%C2%A0timer%C2%A0job/
According to the links we need to run Taxonomy Update Scheduler on the server for updated termstore to get reflected. After running
this scheduler on development environment changes are getting reflected but not working on the production environment.
Kindly help!
Regards, ShrutiYou should check the obvious. You made the change in dev, but did you make the change in production too? And, is the term you updated, actually the one that you are looking at in the list item?
There is not much, if anything, that can go wrong with that timer job. so I'd guess that the term you are looking at is not the one you think you are updating.
If you have double checked everything (the term is is in fact the same term id), then you may have something erroring in the update process. In this case, you should check the ULS logs for any errors.
