Creating a tab shortcut in safari

I had to erase and reinstall my OS the other day. In Safari I used to have a little button in the top left of Safari near the "Show All Bookmarks" that would open up a new tab.
I don't know why it's not there anymore, but is there a way to create it or turn it on again? I cannot figure it out.
I have 10.6.7
As I just saw that.. I used to have 10.6.8? ***?

But sorry, to do what you want, in the menubar at the top in Safari, go to View > Customize Toolbar, then find the button that has "New Tab" below it, and drag it to wherever you want it.

Unable to operate tab shortcut keys for safari

I am using Safari 4.0.2.
All is working good except the *Tab shortcuts for safari*.
Problem: Tab shortcuts does not work every time. It works very less time.
*What I did to solve the problems?*
1) Re-Checked the necessary shortcuts in the preferences pane but nothing happened.
2) Re-installed Safari
3) Also did reset to Safari.
I did not understand what has happened to it.
Please help me with it.

A corrupt preference file may be causing the Command T problem, or perhaps you created a keyboard shortcut for Command/T.
If you didn't alter the keyboard shortcuts, trash the preference file.
Via the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.safari.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari. This resets Safari preferences to default values. Restore any custom settings in either the Preference panel, Edit Menu (spelling), or View Menu. Also, restore any custom icons on the toolbar via the Customize Toolbar option.
Also, the reset adds Apple default bookmarks to your Bookmarks collection (command/option/B keys). Delete any you don't want.

Tab shortcut not really a shortuct anymore?

ShiftCommandleft/right arrow to switch tabs shortcut in safari does not work if anything is selected... which means you have to unselect whatever is selected... and defeats the purpose of a shortcut. Can this be fixed?

I think they mean if the cursor is in a typing field. So, for example, as I type this hitting space will type a space rather than moving the view down.
The change tab shortcut doesn't work if you're in a text box/ typing field (no idea what the technical term is). I kind of suspect it never has worked that way, but Safari seems to locate me in text fields more than it used to.
And no, I haven't found a way to fix it. I don't know if it's from the new Safari or from the Glims plug-in or because I just never noticed before, but Safari's been annoying me lately by automatically highlighting text fields in new tabs, so I can't use shortcuts without first mousing over to somewhere else (although I assume there's a shortcut for getting out of text fields that I just haven't bothered to look up yet).
(Added a few minutes later: cool; Glims lets me change tabs with a comma or a period. Now I just have to remember that tomorrow. But I still get stuck with same issue of needing to "mouse out" of text fields.
(And a few minutes after that: Hitting the tab key gets you out of the text box, as I should have remembered. That may help the OP, although I'd still like to know why I'm winding up in text fields more often.)

Safari tabs + shortcuts

Hi, good people--
I had been using some version of Safari 2 and noticed sometime yesterday that a shortcut I frequently use (apple + W) no longer closes tabs as it had done. I now have to click on the X in the tab. (The command still works for untabbed browser windows, though).
I downloaded Safari 3 beta to see if that would fix it, but it doesn't. I checked the preferences, and they don't give me this option. Is there a way to restore the command or otherwise program it back into Safari?

Apple's shortcut for cycling through the tabs in a Finder window is Control - Tab (wierd symbol) or Shift-Control-Tab.
However, if you want to change the keyboard shortcut (or assign any to a command without one) open System Preferences > Keyboard and click on the Shortcuts tab. There you can click on the App shortcuts in the list, click the "+" sign to find the application you want (Finder in your case), then input the menu item exactly as you see it. Then create a special shortcut command you prefer. You may have to relaunch the Finder to get it to work.
This is pretty handy.

Yes, it's possible.
First create a folder of bookmarks containing the pages you want to have appear as tabs when you start Safari.
Once you've got that bookmarks folder set up, go into your General Safari preferences. At "New windows open with:" select "Choose tabs folder ..." as per the following screenshot:
.... and select the bookmarks folder you set up before.
Quit and restart Safari. Do the contents of the bookmarks folder open in tabs in a new window?
(To change what tabs you have opening in a new window, just change the content of the bookmarks folder you've selected in your preferences.)

'Reload All Tabs' shortcut

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut to reload all tabs inside an active window (Cmd-Shift-R would be very comfortable). But this option is availible only in the tab bar's context menu and isn't represented in the menu bar, so I can't just setup my shortcut in the Keyboard settings panel. And I don't like the idea of installing the third-party plugins just for this thing.
I can create a script using Automator and make a shortcut for it using FastScripts, but these scripts cause very unpleasent lag when running. Is there any mean to bind the shortcut to an option not represented in menu bar? Also this case looks like a bug, and I was hoping that it would be fixed in Safari 4, but no luck so far.

Create a desktop shortcut to a website without a mouse?

Hi.
i have low vision, so i am searching for an easy way to copy an URL into an internet shortcut to the desctop/or any other folder, without the mouse.
Hopefully something that can make it possible for me to press some hotkeys in firefox, and then go to a location and press ctrl+v and an internet shortcut will be pasted there.

There were already some suggestions to create a short cut, so I left out suggestions.
You would first have to copy the link to the clipboard.
If the link is in the location/address bar then this is easy (Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C).
For a link on the website this can be more difficult and you would have to use the Tab key to set focus to the link and press the button to open the right-click context menu to copy the link that way to the clipboard.
Once the link is on the clipboard it shouldn't be difficult to create a desktop shortcut.
You may have to make a copy of the Firefox desktop shortcut if you can't create an internet shortcut and add the link to its target field in the properties.

Any way to create a keyboard shortcut for keywords in Bridge CC?

Just curious if there's any way to create a keyboard shortcut for "new keyword" and "new sub keyword" in Bridge CC?
If not, that would be a welcome addition in any future Bridge update - being able to customize keyboard shortcuts or add your own the way you can in Premiere Pro CC.

Not, as far as I know, directly, but the problem is with Aperture, not Keyboard Maestro. Aperture has no command (afaik) for selecting the caption field of the Info Inspector. Without a command, you will have to find another way to access it, or another way to accomplish what you want.
You can specify the spot clicked by screen coordinates, so you cold use the Inspector HUD and the coordinates of the Caption field, as long as the Inspector HUD always pops up in the same location.
Many dialog boxes allow the user to advance through the fields with the Tab key. Unfortunately, the number of times you have to type "{Tab}" in order to get to a particular field depends on other interface elements (if the Control Bar is showing, add 2). I don't know of a way to determine if the Control Bar is showing.
You might find a work-around using a Metadata Preset and the Batch Change command. Keyboard Maestro can easily pop up a dialog with a text field in which you can type what you want to go into Aperture's Caption field.
The best thing to do is download the trial version and see if it meets your needs. Keyboard Maestro is adept at creating macros based on keyboard input. If the program does not provide keyboard equivalents, writing an effective macro becomes difficult.

Lastly, for the use you cite, I simply show the Inspector if it's not showing (by typing "i"), change to the Info tab if it is not currently activated (by clicking, but note that opening the Inspector with the Info tab selected can be done with one command "View➞Inspector➞Info"), and then clicking in the Caption field, which is part of all of the Metadata Views I regularly use.

Create a Keyboard Shortcut to remove a recognised face in iPhoto

I did originally post this in the iPhoto forum but it was suggested that it may be a script is required to achieve this, so I have posted the contents of my original qustion here below.

This seems to be something that others would like to do also (remove multiple recognised faces in iPhoto) bat as yet, Apple do not have anything built in iPhoto to do this
I think the title says it all but just to be clear I shall explain.
Since there is no way to delete a quantity of recognised faces in (for example) a random group/crowd scene, and you cant block certain photos from having Faces scan them I was wondering about creating a keyboard shortcut equivalent of clicking the little cross in the top of each 'Face Box'
The tab key allows you to move from one Face Box to another, so if I could jsut create a KB shortcut to do the deleting as well, then it maybe a bit quicker than the mouse work that is required when deleting 5 + faces on a single photo.
I know how to create KB shortcuts for Application menu items, but the Delete Face box option does not seem to have a mneu item.
Anyone either:
1) Know how I could achieve this
or
2) Another quick multi 'Face Box' delete workflow

Tab View in Safari 6 on Mountain Lion is not activating with the Pinch Gesture.

The pinch gesture that activates Tab View in Safari 6 is not working. I have the latest MacBook Pro 17" with an updated Mountain Lion OS.
Everything else in Safari works fine, even the keyboard shortcut for Tab View works. Whether I pinch on my laptop trackpad or the standalone trackpad the pinch gesture doesn't activate the new Tab View feature.
Anyone else have this issue?

Keyboard Shortcuts are created in the System Preferences app, Hardware section, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
Select Application Shortcuts on the left.
Click the "+" sign on the right and in the dialog box that pops up, enter: "Export..." and your preferred key combination. Here's an example:
Keep in mind that when you enter the name of the action in a layered menu, such as File > Export..., or Share > Export..., you are only going to enter the last menu choice, not the higher levels.

How do I keep the website's icon when creating a desktop shortcut as opposed to the firefox logo?

When I click a website's icon in the address bar in Firefox and drag it to my desktop to create a shortcut to said site, the shortcut is created with Firefox's icon. I want to know how to keep the site specific icon when creating these shortcuts. I know that once the shortcut is created you can go into properties and choose from several generic icons but I don't want those cheesy icons. Can anyone help?

If you drag a link or favicon on the left end of the location bar onto the desktop to create an internet shortcut then that shortcut gets the icon of the default browser.<br />
If you want a different icon (favicon) then you have to assign that icon yourself to the desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties).<br />
You can usually get the favicon if you append "favicon.ico" to the main domain of a website (e.g. http://www.mozilla.com/favicon.ico ) to display the favicon in a tab and save that image to a folder or see if you can find it in "Tools > Page Info > Media".<br />

I am aware that pinching out activates tab view in Safari, but is there a keyboard shortcut that also does this? I am aware of cmd+shft+arrow to go left or right a tab, but is there a keyboard shortcut that will activate tab view as an alternative to the pinching out gesture?

No (Command+`) shortcut in Safari with US International heyboard layout?

Ok, I recently posted asking for the Alt+Tab equivalent for switching windows in Safari. I discovered here that the shortcut for this is Command+` and it works for other apps too. Thanx guys The problem now is that I can't manage to make this shortcut work using the U.S. International keyboard layout, and I need the layout to make the accents in portuguese... :/
Can anybody gimme a hand (or a shortcut, or a different layout)?

The proper keyboard shortcut for your keyboard layout should be listed in System Preferences, in the Keyboard & Mouse section, under Keyboard Shortcuts.
In that preferences pane, scroll down the list until you find the Keyboard Navigation section. Click on the triangle next to that heading if necessary to view the contents, and look for "Move focus to the next window in active application." Next to that description you should see the keyboard shortcut that performs that action. Also make sure the checkbox next to that listing is checked.
If it has the Command and ` shortcut there, you might try toggling the checkbox. (Uncheck it, close System Preferences, then go back and check it. Then try the shortcut in Safari again.)
Or you could try changing the shortcut to something else in the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences by clicking right over the shortcut symbols. They'll become editable and you can type an alternate shortcut (try to make it something that won't conflict with another existing shortcut).
