Creating a thumbnail gallery

hey,
i have a folder of photos that i wish to place in a flash
thumbnail gallery. does anyone have suggestions for a method or
have implemented an efficient method that has worked for them?

Nancy,
Thankyou! THe link set up worked great.
I have no idea why my teacher wouldn't recomend this to me. If I knew about being able to do this instead of hot spots I would have the first time.
I tested it out in safari and firefox and everything is ok.
I didn't test it out yet on internet explorer yet because im on a mac.
i did have one problem though. i tested it out in opera, and when you click on the thumbnail, it does  go to the image, but doesnt obide by the size.
instead of having it fit the screen like all the other browsers, it previews the picture at the actual pixels filling the entire screen forcing you to scroll to see everything.
is there any way to fix this problem? not many people use this browser so its not too big of a deal. i can't remember exactly but it might have been the hotspot set up where you can set it so the size fits to the browser. can i set this up with the link? and if so how? it seems like it already is working fine for everything else
thanks,
Mike

  • Thumbnails gallery

    Hi,
    I want to create a thumbnail gallery with images loaded in at
    run-time. Can an flash actionscript be passed variables at
    run-time. I want the actionscript to recieve filename(s) as a
    variable so it knows what to display.

    Well I don't believe I am confusing . I want thumb pics on
    flash. I click on a thumb and the larger pic appears. I don't know
    what thumbs to load until I select them from a php script. The php
    script hands the flash movie dir of the thumbs.
    Loadvars is the one to use .
    I am onlt trying to find an example of doing this , else i
    can think of 1 myself.
    any good tuts around on this?

  • How can I create an image gallery with "next" buttons?

    So I am almost done with my portfolio site (YES!)..now I just need the actual content (the images). My site is written in AS3.
    I've watched many tutorials on how to create an image gallery (auto scrolling ones, scrolling ones that require mouse hover, etc etc), but those aren't what I am looking for.
    I want a gallery that looks exactly like this one here:
    http://jalbum.net/res/help/integrating-tutorial.html
    I have a lot of work to display in my porfolio so there must be arrows at the end of the thumbnails so I can add more stuff. So I am just stumped on how to make the image gallery work with the ability to scroll for more photos with the click of the arrows.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

    Watching tutorials and learning from them are two different things.  If you have learned from them you should be able to use what you have learned to devise a gallery such as the one you link to.  If you have learned from them and cannot use what you learned, then you probably need to find/learn more.
    If you study the design you linked you should be able to reason out what elements you need to devise... it is not overly complicated.
    For the large picture you could have a Loader into which you load whatever image is selected from the thumnails. To get a brief transition you could just set the alpha of the Loader to 0 when an image change is occuring and gradually fade it in after the image has loaded.
    The greatest challenge you are likely to face is in getting the thumbnails to advance back and forth depending on which is selected.  All of the thumbs would be placed in a container (movieclip or sprite) and that would be masked so that only a portion of them is visible.
    All thumbs that are not selected have their alpha property set to some value less than 1.  Selecting one calls for the file it associates with to be loaded into the Loader.  If the choice happens to lie off screen, then you need to move the movieclip that contains all of the thumbs some set value in the right (+x) or left (-x) direction.
    If you want the thumbnails to wrap infinitely then when one leave the thumbnails area for movement in a direction, you need to take that thumb and relocate it to the other end of the thumbs in the container.

  • Help to create a photo gallery..

    Can anyone visit this site..
    www.ted.com
    I want to create a photo gallery like that.. I mean when i hover my mouse over a thumbnail my image should enlarge.. and if i click i should be able to download..
    I want that animation while loading between my galleries..
    please help me.. please.. no need that various sizes for all tiles.. no problem even if all tiles are of same size.. please.. I need it so badly..
    thanks in advance

    Whenever I need a gallery like this i usually just buy one
    from:
    http://www.flashcomponents.net/component/
    they are usually like $8-10 and have saved me quite a bit of
    time... there are plenty of tutorials out there for custom ones,
    but for $8 its hard to pass up a pre-built... i know this doesnt
    answer your question exactly but i figured i would give my 2 cents,
    hope this helps :)

  • Creating a photo gallery like the China Gallery in Adobe Labs. How?

    I have photos in several categories (I'll use 2, "frank" and "wolfie" as examples here). What I'd like to do is build a photo gallery like the China Photo Gallery shown in the Adobe Labs site, where the user can switch between categories without going to a different page. Here's what I've done so far and how I'm stuck:
    I created a photo gallery with the instructions in the tutorial "Building a photo album with the Spry Framwork". I then inserted a Tabbed Panels widget for navigating between the categories.
    I set up an XML file as follows:
    /* frank category */
    <photo
    path = "001p.png"
    width = "467"
    height = "467"
    thumbpath = "001p.png"
    thumbwidth = "85"
    thumbheight = "85">
    </photo>
    /* wolfie category */
    <photo
    path = "001f.png"
    width = "467"
    height = "467"
    thumbpath = "001f.png"
    thumbwidth = "85"
    thumbheight = "85">
    </photo>
    To create the div holding the thumbnails for the "frank" category, I entered the following:
    <div class="thumbdiv" spry:region="dsGallery"><img src="thumbnails/frank/{@thumbpath}" spry:repeat="dsGallery" spry:setrow="dsGallery" class="thumbs" /></div>
    To create the div where the full size images will be displayed, I entered the following:
    <div class="mainpic" spry:detailregion="dsGallery"><img src="images/frank/{@path}" onload="MM_effectAppearFade(this, 1500, 0, 100, false)" /></div>
    Then, in the tabbed panel set for the "wolfie" category, I did the same thing, substituting "wolfie" for "frank". However, since there is only one xml file, spaceholders for all of the thumbnails appear in the thumbnail div for the frank category. I realize that I'll probably need to create a separate xml file for each category, but how do I set it up so the correct xml file is accessed when the link in the tab is clicked? Or am I approaching this all wrong?
    From reviewing the source for the China gallery, it appears that they set up links to different xml files instead of Tabbed Panels. How does that work? There are also some javascript files I can't find anywhere on Adobe's site.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    If you have seperate XML file but with the same basic structure then you can change the XML a Spry dataset refers to and regenerate the spry region without reloading the full page.
    So on my photo gallery page I can change the album the photos are shown from via the seturl sprydata function as below.  dsPhotos being my Spry dataset that points to the relevant XML dataset with my image references and captions etc.  My XML is actually dynamically generated from Picasa RSS feeds (and RSS feeds are XML) but the principle will be the same with your static XML.
    First I add an event listener for when someone clicks on an album (the li tag within my div with the id "albums" holds a photo and title for each album.)
    function Albums()
    var myalbums = Spry.$$("#albums li", "TabbedPanels1")
    var rows = dsAlbums.getData();
    var setListener = function( element, value )
      Spry.Utils.addEventListener( element, "click", function(){ showAlbum( value ); },false );
    for( var i = 0, length = myalbums.length; i < length; i++ )
      setListener( myalbums[i], i );
    Then this is the code which changes the photo album to be shown. (when the user clicks the relevant album)
    function showAlbum(i)
    pauseShow();
    pImage = 'No';
    var rows = dsAlbums.getData();
    var albumid = rows[i]["albumid"];
    var url = "xml/PicasaAphotoFeed.asp?albumid=" + albumid;
    dsPhotos.setURL(url);
    dsPhotos.loadData();
    var rowcount = dsAlbums.getRowCount() - 1;
    var nextalbum;
    var navnext;
    var n;
    The page is here www.thehmc.co.uk/photo5.html is you want to see it in context.
    In your case showAlbum would switch between Frank.xml or Wolfie.xml depending on how you decide to name your xml datasets.

  • What is the best way to create a photo gallery?

    Hi,
    I want to create a photo gallery in Dreamweaver without using any pre-built "web gallery" function. What's the best way to swap the images when I click the "next" button? Do I create a new Dreamweaver page for each photograph? Is there a more efficient way to do it than that?
    Thanks,
    Gordon

    Is there a more efficient way to do it than that?
    Most definitely.  With scripts.

  • Creating an image gallery

    Hi all,
    I am trying to work out how to create an image gallery on a
    page whereby there is a set of thumbnails to the side and the
    relevant large image opens adjacent to the thumbnails when they are
    moused over.
    I have done this using the hide/show layers function but the
    output appears incosistently in different browsers and/or window
    sizes. I had in mind some adaptation of the "swap image" behaviour
    that would open the swap in a different position? Or alternatively
    making the layers approach display consistently?
    The layers version of the page can be
    viewed
    here
    Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated,
    thanks in advance,
    Graham

  • FAQ: How can I create a scrolling gallery of images?

    You can use Flash Catalyst to create galleries, for example a scrolling list of thumbnails that display larger images when clicked. Here are some tutorials that explain how:
    Create a photo gallery (using list interactions), on the FlashCats blog
    Create a data list component -- Don't let the title scare you, a "data list" is a really powerful component to get to know better; it enables creation of very creative visual things like galleries. When you need repeating items, consider using a data list.

    Hi there,
    You can create a scroll motion where the image will fade out on scrolling, you need to use the Opacity tab under Scroll Effects Panel.
    If you particularly need the image to be blur out, then you need to edit that image in any image editing program and make one copy of that image as blurred, then place both images (actual and blurred) on that page and use scroll motion or fade option to replace images.

  • Creating a photo gallery using behaviors?

    I am re-designing a website, and I'm a little stuck on how to re-create the photo gallery presentation of the original web site. Here is the original gallery:
    http://www.sarahegeller.com/photos
    What I'd specifically like to reproduce is the ability to click on a thumbnail, which would bring up the larger image, but with the original window remaining behind, greyed out. I assume this is something I can do with behaviors, but there doesn't seem to be a behavior that addresses this, at least among the behaviors dreamweaver CS 3 comes with. I assume a behavior that would give me the effect I want exists on the dreamweaver exchange, but I couldn't find one. Am I even correct in assuming I could achieve the effect I'm looking for using a behavior?
    I'm using dreamweaver CS 3, on a mac.
    Thanks for taking the time to read this query.
    Yours,
    Nick

    The effect you're aiming for is a currently popular one known as a Lightbox.
    There is no in built Dreamweaver behaviour for this. You'll need to look for 3rd party solutions such as jQuery.
    From the page code:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/sites/all/modules/lightbox2/js/auto_image_handling.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="/sites/all/modules/lightbox2/js/lightbox.js"></script>
    The effect on that particular site is created with a Drupal module: Lightbox2
    http://drupal.org/project/lightbox2
    You may be able to use:

  • How to create a Spry Gallery

    Sorry for the rudimentary question, but I want to actually create a spry gallery like the one in the demos, but I am lost as to where to start (using Dreamweaver).
    Thanks, Don

    Hi,
    The basis of the photo gallery is a spry master region and a detailregion.
    Let's say your spry dataset is called photos.
    The thumbnails within the master region are just like something below
    <div spry:region="photos">
    <div spry:repeat="photos">
    <img src="{thumbURL}" spry:setrow="photos"/>
    </div>
    </div>
    and the current image being displayed sits within this markup.
    <div spry:detailregion="photos">
    <img src="{imageURL}"/>
    </div>
    When you click on the thumbail it sets the current row of the photos dataset to that of the thumbnail.  The detailregion automatically listens for this changes to updates it markup to show the matching full size photo for that row.
    You then add some classes or div ids and css to style your photos and you have your basic photo gallery.
    If you want to be able to select different galleries then you have different XML datasets for each gallery and on clicking the appropriate link or select item you run code like below
    photos.setURL("gallery1.xml");
    photos.loadData();
    photos.setURL("gallery2.xml");
    photos.loadData();
    photos.setURL("gallery3.xml");
    photos.loadData();
    This will reload both the master region (thumbnails) and the detailregion (currently selectedphoto).
    For the slideshow effects you just use Spry effects and the setrow functionality triggered via a timer (setInterval) i.e. here's some sample code from one of my pages
    function pauseShow()
    clearInterval(StartSlideTimer);
    Spry.$$("#slideshowPlaying")[0].innerHTML = "";
    function startShow()
    clearInterval(StartSlideTimer);
    StartSlideTimer = setInterval("fadeOutContentThenSetRow()", 6000);
    if (shuffle)
    Spry.$$("#slideshowPlaying")[0].innerHTML = "<p>You are playing the slideshow in shuffle mode</p>";
    You can see the working page here www.thehmc.co.uk/photo.html
    Our club pages works with our photos and albums on our Picasa account because that way you don't need to produce the xml, Picasa does that via it's rss feeds.
    Feel free to use any of the code I've written in your pages or start with a basic version as I've outlined at the top - that's how the above page started out then I styled it with css and added the fancier stuff once the basics were working.

    Phil

  • Creating a Video Gallery

    I am creating a video gallery for a website. I am quite new
    to Flash 8 and I am wondering whether it is possible to do the
    following:
    The file will contain a video player at the top that will
    play all the video clips. Underneath will be a library that will
    start off as four thumbnails and their will be an 'Expand All'
    button. Once clicked, the gallery will expand in flash to show
    however many thumbnails that are needed, and once you click on the
    thumbnails the video will load up in the above player.
    I have created the library so that it expands and collapses,
    but I am struggling (have no idea) on how to make the thumbnails
    link to play the corresponding videos at the top!
    Is it possible?

    Thanks for the advice, I must have done something wrong
    though as it has not worked.
    In my SWF, I have imported the videos separately using the
    wizard. I have named one of the videos with the instance name vid
    and then added the code you have listed. When I preview the file,
    the top video plays, but when I click on the thumbnails they do not
    do anything.
    Have I done something wrong?

  • Creating an image gallery in apex....

    Hi,
    Im using Apex version 4.2.6... I followed the instructions in a blog to create an image gallery in apex applications....
    http://apex-notes.blogspot.com/2008/12/build-image-gallery-using-apex.html
    I have created all process by following that blog... But the pikachoose plugin is not available to download....
    Is there is any other plugin or any other alternate way to create an image gallery in apex???
    Thanks
    Infant raj

    HI,
    Is there is any example for creating an image gallery... Went through on your link, i want to use the images that are stored in the table.....
    Please advise me on application where i need to use this scripts...
    jQuery plugin setup
    The blueimp Gallery jQuery plugin registers a global click handler to open links with data-gallery attribute in the Gallery lightbox.
    To use it, follow the lightbox setup guide, but replace the minified Gallery script with the jQuery plugin version and include it after including jQuery:
    <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="js/jquery.blueimp-gallery.min.js"></script>
    Next, add the attribute data-gallery to your Gallery links:
    <div id="links"> <a href="images/banana.jpg" title="Banana" data-gallery> <img src="images/thumbnails/banana.jpg" alt="Banana"> </a> <a href="images/apple.jpg" title="Apple" data-gallery> <img src="images/thumbnails/apple.jpg" alt="Apple"> </a> <a href="images/orange.jpg" title="Orange" data-gallery> <img src="images/thumbnails/orange.jpg" alt="Orange"> </a> </div>

    Heya,
    When I first read your post I originally thought you were posting a tutorial about whether a chosen username has already been resigtered or not on the signup page like this tutorial:
    http://DwFAQ.info/signup_demo.php
    Spry Check Username Availability
    Date Created: Sunday, July 5, 2009 2:29 PM
    Then after looking at the page you've linked to and trying to understand the objective of the tutorial I've noticed that you are talking about something like this:
    http://DwFAQ.info/home.php?id=7
    Spry Search
    Date Created: Sunday, March 1, 2009 8:51 PM
    It's pretty simple to do with the link I've referenced. Simply create your database with populated tables, use the mentioned script to convert the database data into xml syntax, then enter your dynamic database script as the location of the xmlDataSet in the spry page linked.
    View source on this page which shows the non-destructive filter in action to see how it's done! You can also spice it up a little for products, etc. by using this method. The key is to create a dynamic xml syntax from your database and then use the dynamic xml script location as your xmlDataSet in the search page.
    I have an example of the auto suggest search on my homepage http://DwFAQ.info
    On the top-left side of the page click on the link that says Search Tutorials to reveal the search form. Then start typing characters into the search box to see the entries instantly filter according to the characters that are typed. You can also filter further by clicking on the category checkboxes to filter by keywords AND category.
    You can view the source code on my homepage to see the location of the dynamic xml syntax referenced as the xmlDataSet location and how it was implemented into the site.

  • Using xml within thumbnail gallery

    I'm creating a portfolio of websites I have designed.
    I have it working with classic ASP & XML, but want a
    Flash version too.
    So far:
    1) I have a sliding thumbnail gallery working in Flash MX
    (using AS2) whereby clicking on thumbnails loads in a larger view
    of the image. These images are screenshots of the websites.
    2) I have loaded an xml file which contains locations of
    thumbnails & larger images, as well as URL of each website, and
    some text to describe each site's content. I am able to loop
    through the xml to retrieve the data I need for each site.
    I would now like to merge the 2.
    i.e. click on thumbnail to slide in the larger image, and
    dynamically add the URL and text descriptions for each site.
    Can someone just point me in the right direction... I'll then

    Hi,
    It would be helpful if you added a new unique identifier field to your collection to ensure that the correct record gets updated. In the discussion below, I am assuming you have a collection named Col1 with columns ID, ImageURL and Description.
    ImageURL points to the images that get displayed in the gallery. The text in Description is bound to the input text box (named Text1) instances.
    Now, set the Behavior > OnChange property of the input text box to: UpdateIf(Col1, ID=ThisItem!ID, {Description:Text1!Text}).
    Whenever the input text is changed and you shift focus by clicking anywhere else on the canvas, the OnChange rule gets executed and your collection will be updated with the new text.
    Thanks
    Robin
