Creating a TOC or Index for a pdf?

Is it possible to create a word index or table of contens for a pdf that doesn't have one from Acrobat Pro?

Indices or TOC should be created in/from your original document. You can use the bookmarking feature in Acrobat to simulate the function of a TOC.

  • How do I make a user index for a PDF?

    Hi everyone!
I'm trying to find a plugin that will create a user index for a PDF. Not a searchable index accessible on the computer. I mean an index so that when I print the PDF, at the end there will be an index that lists every page on which the word 'blank' appears (for example.) Like one would find in a textbook.
Suggestions? I would be amazed of such a plugin did not exist...
    Cheers,
    Ray

Real indexes are only semi-automatic; they are based on carefully choosing words and phrases to index, then letting the app generate the index. This is almost always done in the original app e.g. Word.
A fully automatic index with everything in it is usually larger than the document itself, is called a "concordance" and is a rather specialist thing.

    Hi,
We tried to create a index for a orddoc datatype , the syntax used was as below
    CREATE INDEX CIX_DLX_ASSET1 ON DLX_ASSET(TEXT_ASSET.source.localdata) INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT;
where DLX_ASSET is the table name and TEXT_ASSET is of the type Orddoc.

But the index is being created but it is not proper and contain query doesnot work properly on it
However we were able to create an index for TEXT_ASSET.comments as below
    CREATE INDEX CIX_TBL_ASSET1 ON TBL_ASSET(TEXT_ASSET.comments) INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT;
The step we had followed are as below
Granted required permission to the User owning the index.

  • Search index for single PDF?

Is it possible to make and embed a search index for a single very large PDF?
If so, are there advantages over no index -- such as faster search speed?
If Acrobat 9 Pro can make such an index, can Reader 9 use it?
    Thanks!

    Yes. Advanced>Document Processing>Manage Embedded Index

Yes, the only advantage is faster search speed. Disadvantage is slightly larger file size.

    Yes.

  • ME38 Scheduling agreement won't create a delivery due index for stock trans

    Hi,
we've had a scheduling agreement that has been working fine since 2005 that has suddenly stopped producing a delivery due index for stock transfer record ( Table VETVG ).
I cannot see any changes to the scheduling agreement which looks okay to me.  I'm not sure what else to check.
    Any ideas appreciated

  • How can I create a one-click download for a PDF file?

I want to have several PDF files on the website ... for downloading. How do I create a one-click download button? for those who don't know about control-right-clicking to download something?
    Does such a possibility exist?
    Ben

    Hi Quicktime Kirk,
Thank you. And that leads me to another question: I've used the zip function before, with the idea of making a smaller file for transfers; but the PDF I get from Pages doesn't seem to compress any more when supposedly further compressed by .zip. Meaning, same size files.
Is this supposed to be like this? And, just so I understand, the file needs to be a .zip file for this one-click function to work? Have I got that right? Or will it work just as well with the .pdf file? Given there is no difference in the compression.

  • Creating a Randomizer/Shuffle Button for interactive PDF in InDesign CS6 (PC)

I'm creating a set of flashcards in InDesign CS6 (on a PC) so there are two sides (question then answer). I'd like them to "flip over" using an interactive PDF. That's not the problem - the tough part is linking the two sides (ie pages) together and creating a "randomizer" button so the user can shuffle the deck of flashcards in a new order while keeping the question and answer pages of each card together. Is that possible with an interactive PDF? I'd appreciate any info! The company is printing the flashcards and then offering them in a digital format to it would be great to be able to use one document for both purposes.

Sorry, this is not possible in an interactive PDF file.
You could probably do with SWF. You could probably include it a tablet app using HTML5 and JavaScript.
    But not in PDF.

  • Auto Creating a TOC in RH8 (for FlashHelp) problem

When I opened my RH8 project today and autocreated the TOC, all books disappeared except for the new one I created today. I painstakingly recreated the TOC with 10-12 books and contents, saved frequently, and regenerated the project, displayed it in Flash -- TOC displays OK.  However, when I use the Auto Create TOC option (deselecting the Delete Previous TOC checkbox), it creates a one-book TOC (the one book I added today).  Something seems to be broken with the auto-create TOC function.  Any clues?
    Thanks.

    Hi there
Awfully hard to say what has happened here without seeing your project first hand. Are you using Folders to organize topics? Is the content purely HTML files or is it content that is linked to a Word document?
    Cheers... Rick

    Hi
Take the Help of ABAP and use the copy of standard programme RSTXPDF4 and table TSP01, to create a Z-programme where as per your requirement you can convert any report on the basis of Invoice No. to PDF.
We are using a such programme to convert all our Z-report to convert to PDF on the basis of T-code and then the Input data of that report.

i need to create a function based index for the function to_char.when i tried ,i got an error,"only pure function can be indexed".what the error really means, help me in creating the index to reduce my query cost.

It works fine on my database. version 9iR2
    create index IDX_TO_CHAR on emp(to_char(hiredate,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS'));
    explain plan for
    select hiredate from emp where to_char(hiredate,'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS')='1981-05-01 00:00:00';

maybe there is other ways to tune your sql than creating a function based index?

  • Creating popup menus using bookmarks in acrobat pdf

I have a requirment to create a button called "Index" in a pdf.
When I click on that button it should show the popup menu and if I click any of the menuitem in that, it should take me to that particular page. I saw some of the interactive pdf's available on the web and they have this facility. I tried to incorporate this into my pdf, it shows the popup menu item correctly but not taking me to that particular page and throughs an error message.
    itemIndex is not defined

    Hi
Thanks a lot. I did not notice that .
Is there anyway to populate this popup menu item from the bookmark list? I did write these bookmarks and page numbers manually.

  • Multi-column Index vs One index for each column

    Hello everyone,
i have one table about 20 000 000 rows, some developers have to generate reports on it and i want to create indexes on this table.
The table has 34 columns, no primary key, no unique keys.
The "where..." clause of the reports usually use 8 columns but some reports uses 8 + some other columns.
can any one help me on what kind of indexes do i have to create?
    1. one index for each column used in "where clause"
    2. one index for 8 columns and some other indexes for other used columns
    3. one index for all columns
    or something else etc...

or something else etc...What's the version of your data base? what kind of database you have, DWH or OTLP? The answer might depend on the type of database as far as bitmap indexes might suit or might not depending if you are runing DWH or OLTP kind of database
Let me suppose that you are runing OLTP database and you have a where clause with 8 columns.
    1) are all those where clause equalities (where col1 = and col2 =) or there are inequalities?
    2) could you evaluate the most repetitive columns?
    3) could you know the column that could have the best clustering factor (the column which most follow a certain order in the table)
Based on that I would suggest to create one b-tree index having 8 columns (even though that it seems for me to high) this index should follow the following points:
    1) put the most repetitive column at the leading edge (and compress the index if necessary)
    2) put the columns that are used in equalitity predicate first
    3) put the column having the best clustering factor first
The most precise index you have the best access you could gain.
Of course that you have to know that an index access is not always good and a FULL table scan is not always bad.
