Creating a universe on Multiple Cubes or Bex Queries

Dear SDNers,
Can we create a single universe on Multiple cubes or DSOs or BEx Queries and how do we do this?
Can you plese tell me step by step.
Thanks,
Swathi.

Hi swathi,
yes, we can create multicubes from single universe from webi rich client/deski, create a single report  from BEx Query it makes as single micro cube.
and Next Edit Query--> Add Query--> select same universe.  This Query makes as another Micro cube.   so you can design a report from those Microcubes. if you add additional object to query panal the microcube updated from data base.

  • Can I create one single  crystal report using 2 bex queries

    HI all,
I have 2 bex queries and has to develope a single crystal report .Is it possible???? If so, than how to connect two bex queries  and develope  one single crystal report.Any other option is also fine. I mean ....no need to use crystal..( I can go for one single webi..).But need to know the approach ...
or else...can I create universe on 1 bex and other universe on other bex ..and go for one single webi report..
Only problem is client is particular about one single report(either crystal or webi)
if i go for webi ...I know we can use link universe option but I dont know whether it works fro OLAP environment.
Please let me know if I can link OLAp universes and go for 1 single webi report.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Mahathi

You can use either CR or WebI.
In CR Designer create the report using the SAP toolbar (Create report from query) based on the 1st BEx query. Then use the Database expert (first entry in the Database menu) to add an additional connection to your 2nd BEx query (+Create new connection->SAP BW DX query). You can then join the results of the 2 different queries in the database expert also.. Please note that if you do NOT want to join the result sets, then it is more efficient to use subreports. Create two different CR reports, each based on one of the BEx queries and then use one of those as your main report and insert the other one into it as subreport. Once embedded you do not have to keep the separate .rpt file of your second report.
For Webi you must build 2 universes, each based on one of your BEx queries. In your report you can add multiple queries based on different universes. You can join the results sets here by using the Merge dimensions button in the report editor area.
    Regards,
    Stratos
PS; Keep in mind that joining a large number of rows at report level (either in CR or WebI) can cause performance problems. If this is your requirement, how many rows do you expect to get back from each individual query?

  • Linking Olap universe built on two different BEx Queries

    Hi,
    I need help on following:
I have a universe A build on Bex query 1 and universe B build on Master Data.
I want to link Universe A to Universe B so that i can filter the values in universe B based on user logged in and use them in Universe A.
Can any one let me know if this is supported at first place linking two olap universes in BusinessObjects XI R3.1 SP2/SP3?
If yes how can i acheive this?
Is ther any document that has details about linking the Olap universe in BOXI R3.1 SP2/SP3
If anyone knows about this please let me know ASAP.

    Hi Ingo,
    thanks for the help.
Let me explain my scenarion so as to why i am trying link universe option.
I have a requirement where in i am suppose to populate the Lov's based on userlogged in BOXIR3.1
i have a BEx query from which i have build a universe when I develop a report from this universe I get some default prompts coming from the bex query which has all the values from master data table now i want to limit this lovs to pouplate only those values which are specific to that user instead of all the values.
Please can you sugeest some way around for this?

  • No. of Connections needed for creating universes from SAP BEx Queries

    Hello,
I have 8 SAP BEx queries, my task to create to universe for all of these queries. I have created a datasource connection, my question here is can I use the same connection for all the queries by changing datasource connection and selecting the new query or is it suggestable to create 8 datasource connections in universe designer??
please let me know if you need any more info.
    Your reply is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Naresh

    HI,
You need to create 8 connection for 8 BW queries. There is  one to one mapping in the universe. If you change the existing connection source then it will not work for earlier query.
Other thing you can check like you have 8 queries then instead of creating 8 universe if possible then merge some queries in the single bw query and then create universe.
    Thanks,

  • Create a Universe in top of a Webservice

Hi , is it possible to create a Webintelligence universe in top of a webservice ??
    Harald

    Hi,
The answer to your question is, no.
To report from SAP BI, you would need to have the integration between BI and BO set up, a bex query and then create the universe on top op the bex query to get the data out and use it in Webi.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple Variable selection filtering for BEx queries

I created a web template which accesses three BEx queries. I have the same variable in all three queries so when I run the report, it pulls the data from all three queries correctly. BUT, when I change the filtering criteria within the report, only one of the query results changes, but not the other two. My question is: Is there a way to link all three queries so I can change the filtering criteria only once and have it affect all three?

Reading one Query variable(values) reflects in other query

  • Create a Crystal report on top of two queries

    Hi All,
Is it possible to create a report on top of two Bex queries in Crystal reports 2008 & Crystal report 2011 & CR enterprise version 4.0?
Please explain the steps if possible.
    Thanks in Advance....

    Not possible!
You'll need to use a Subreport to separate the queries.

  • Unable to create an universe on a query based on a real time cube

    Hello,
I'm trying to create a universe on a BEx query. This query is based on a multiprovider which consists of one standard cube and one real time cube. I'm unable to see this query in the designer. I do see an empty folder with the name of the multi provider.
I can create an universe directly on this multiprovider.
Are there any specific setting for real time cube or is it a compatibility issue? Can an universe be created on a real time cube?

  • How to create Universe on BEx Queries

    Hi,
I am very new to create Universe based on SAP BW Infocubes or BEx queries. I actually need to create reports based on BEx queries. I am able to log into SPA BW using Universe connection and I see only Infocubes. Where can I find BEx queries. Is there any specific document that helps here.
    Please help me.
    Nanda

    Hi,
You can select the queries which are part of the cubes. And make sure that the query is part of the cube.
If still not listing then from Bex Query designer open the query from the cube and enable 'set to allow external access' in the properties of a query.
Now, the query should be available in the Universe Designer.

  • Creating a Universe on Bex Query --- Information Design Tool 4.0

    Hi,
I am creating a Universe on a BeX Query, based on my understanding from the documentation i dont have to create a data foundation layer and i can directly call the connection in the Business Layer.
when I create a business layer and select OLAP connection (BICS connection), I get an error "this connection is not supported".
I was trying to look for a solution but i haven't found anything yet. Did anyone else encounter this issue. Please Share.
    Regards,
    Sheikh Hassan Ayub

    HI there,
I read somewhere that the support for BEx Queries are done via Relational Connection.  However, the BICS connection is only available via OLAP connection.
I was able to successfully create an OLAP Connection with BEx Queries.  However when I do a Business Layer with this OLAP connection it says ERROR, not supported.
I havent tested creating a relational and thus having a Data Foundation yet as I am still have issues with my installation with ports.
Anyway, let me know if you are able to create a relational connection.
I'd be interested to hear your experience.
    Regards,
    Iris
P.S. the connection needs to be published.

  • Steps to create a Universe based on Bex query

    HI Gurus,
I am (first time ofcourse) creating a Universe based on a Bex Query. I searched on SDN to find steps to craete a universe on top of Bex query and found a document written by tej Trivedi and found other threads also which explains all the steps.
I understood from his document that in case of OLAP Universes the Structure pan would be empty. And I will not see joins etc..Is that true?
How can I make sure that I will see data?
    Regards

    Hi,
I believe this is a cross post from here Re: BEX Query Objects dont show in Universe  ?
So i will put my answer again:
    Hi,
If you can select your BEx query,  but the 'universe outline' in the webi query panel stays blank (i.e no available objects in the webi query panel)  then you don't have enough rights (authorizations) on the BW -side.
to prove it, try using a sap_all profile in the universe connection .
    regards,
    H
p.s. there is a large section on the required authorizations in the Admin guide.  Also a note covers it :  Note      1585948 - No objects are visible in the query panel when creating a report using Interactive Analysis or BI Launchpad

  • Create a universe based on multiple existing universes

I have a BI 4 SP02 installed in Windows OS. I am using Information design tool to create data foundation to connect to multiple data sources. Instead of using multiple database connection, can I create a data foundation to connect to multiple universes. My intention is not to create new universe based on multiple databases. Instead, I want to combine two existing universes as one and create report from that. Is it possible to do? if so, may I know how to do that?
    Thank you

    Hi
If you want to combine two universes and make a report of it, it is possible by universe linking concept.
If you have two universes for example, then these two universes have to be linked by using any of these two methods.
    1. Add link
    2. Include link
Add Link : Complete reusing of an existing universe in the current universe.
    Steps
    1. File > parameters > link tab> Add link> browse for the universe> open > ok.
Then make the join between the common object.
    Save and export.
Include link: Partially reusing of the existing in the current universe with few modifications.
    Steps
    1.File > parameters > link tab> Include link> browse for the universe> open > ok.
    Hope it helps.

  • Wrong date format when creating a universe based on a MS Analysis cube

    Hi,
When creating a universe based on a MS Analysis 2008 cube the date objects from the cube are created in the universe with CHAR format when it should be DATE format
I have tried to resolve the issue by modifying the date object in the universe with MDX but with little success.
I wonder if it is an error in the cube and that it actually should be possible to get the correct date format from the cube when creating the universe automatically in the universe design tool.
The date object is organised in a hierarchy.
Any ideas? - both to resolve the issue by using MDX in the universe object properties or in the cube.
The universe design tool is version 4.0 SP2 patch 5
    /Kim

Oh I knew I was missing something. Ok version 2.
I think in general this approach would work. I assumed you are starting from 1 and resetting to 1.
There should be error handling and so forth that is not here. Probably some details need to be tweaked.
So the key thing here AFAIK is to put the sequence reset in an autonomous procedure. Exactly how to do that may need to be modified.
PS this version has a bug. After the reset needs to change the increment of the sequence back to 1.
and I left that out. oops!
    /* testtrigger */
    /* previously:
    create table mytable (
    myprimary_key number(10) primary key,
    column1 number(2)

    end;

    create or replace trigger mytrigger

    from mylastdate;
    select mysequence.currval into lastseq from dual;

  • How to create Universe using multiple datasource?

We have a requirement to create a Universe that connects to multiple databases.
We we know the limitation of Universe " It can connect to only one datasource"
We have some data that resides on DB2 table. We have some data that reside on SQL Server table. One way of doing this would be to create two universe, one that connects to SQL Server and one that connects to DB2. Then create a report that synchronize the data from the two universe. But performance wise, this will not be a good option.
The option is layered Universe. But it has its own limitation that the two datasource must of of same type. Correct me if I am wrong.
Is there a way I can fulfill the requirements? Please post any links to documentation if there is any.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
For your purpose, I suggest that you use Data Federator in order to create a multi-source database.
Then Data Federator will build a virtual database based on your different multi-sources.
Last you just have to create a universe based on the Data Federator connection (ODBC or JDBC): the universe will see this connection as a single data sourcewhereas it is a multiple data sources connection.

  • How do i access multiple bex queries in one crystal reports??

    Hello Experts,
I have 10 cubes and 30 bex queries on it and i need to create 3 final crystal reports on these 30 queries.
I am on BI 4.0 & CR 2011. but my client is not on correct SAP patch ie., he is on 15+ but he must be on 23+ to access multiple bex queries on CR 2011 Database expert. (I am unable to see bex queries in Database expert to link couple of bex queries)
And my client env doesnt have SAP EP for SAP BW Netweaver Connection to create a connection to access cubes or queries in IDT.
Do my client env need EP? so that SAP BICS Connection will work in IDT?
How do i approach to achive this...
    Thank you...

    Hi,
have you checked the option "allow external access" in your query? SAP Toolbar will find all queries but the database export needs this flag to be set.
Using multiple queries within one crystal report is using the "multi database join feature" of crystal reports. You can link your queries by key fields and crystal will join them in memory. So when there are many queries or many datarows this can be a huge performance killer.
Actuallly one of our customers is running a report which has more than 20 BEx queries linked together. It runs just fine.
Please be sure to set your joins correctly. E.g. crystal will try to make a join on the "key figures" sturcture if you let it create a suggestion or it will try to link on all fields of an infoobject. This will bring MDX errors.
So you should be setting your joins correctly - the [infoobject]-[20infoobject] fields are fine for that.
I hope you can use some of my words.
    Regards
    Thorsten
