Creating a vector from a jpeg logo

Hi All,
I have a project where I have a hand-drawn and scanned logo as a jpeg that I need to convert into something that I can put different backgrounds behind and also use like a watermark to put on photos that I have taken. Should I make it a vector? What would be the best thing to do? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

That’s fairly bad regarding vectorization.
And if one considers the old-time recommendations regarding logos with regard to scale- and reproduce-ability it seems far from ideal – but that naturally need not trump aesthetic considerations.
I think I can make out a red, black, white and four different grays.
Additionally there are small, thin elements.
So recreating it in Illustrator would probably be a quite time-intensive task.
If it’s not intended for print but only for watermarking I would recommend to start with the full resolution version and
• use the green channel as a Selection
• apply that as a Layer Mask on the Layer
• edit the Layer Mask with Curves or Levels to make all relevant portions white and black respectively
• cleanup (stray pixels)
• view the result against black, white and intermediate backgrounds – very probably the edges will be fairly bad
• use Filter > Other > Minimum as a Smart Filter with an inverted and slightly expanded Selection based on the Layer’s Mask
• manually correct the remaining edge problems (by painting over them on a Clipping Masked Layer set to Blending Mode Darken)

  • How can you create a swatch from a jpeg in Illustrator CS4?

I am trying to create a jpeg image into a swatch in Illustrator CS4. In previous versions you could simply drag the image into the swatches toolbar and it would convert it automatically. Now when I do that nothing happens. When I click on new swatch it creates a colour swatch instead of the actual image itself.

When you say you would drag the image itself into the Swatch Palette and it would show the image itself? How would then use this swatch? Can you give an example of what you would apply a jpeg to as a swatch? The only palette that I can think of off the top of my head that you can drag a jpeg into and have the icon appear as the jpeg is the Symbols Palette. Is is possible that you were using the Symbols Palette in the past and not the Swatch Palette?

I am trying to convert an outline to a vector image. What's the quickest way to do it?

    southernfitgirl,
Depending on the actual shape, you may use other tools as well, possibly in combination, such as Ellipse for circles/ellipses and (Rounded) Rectangle for (rounded) squares/rectangles, (Polar) Grid for grids.

  • Javascript to create vector from image and save as eps

    Hi,
I started writing a script which open all images in a folder and i need to turn those into vectors.
How do i write the following in JavaScript:
    Open the JPG file
    Select the image layer/object
Create a vector from the image using the Image Trace for high fidelity
Reduce the new vector objec size by %50.
    save as eps
any help with any of the stages would be very helpful.
    thank you

    PERFECT!!!!!!
This is exactly what I was going to build.  No need to create when it is already done.

  • Can I import drawings and photos into Illustrator to create a vector image?

What I bring to the software is my background in studio arts 2D and 3D.  Photography is a tool to support both of these activities.  Over the years that skill has developed and I have many great photos.  The photos make me a little nuts now that I focus on digital.  In digitals photos I easily have over 60,000 photos.  I have some experience with Photoshop.  I won’t say I am a proficient but will say I have good skills in it.   I created my first logo in Photoshop.  Of course it is not vector and I know it should be vector.  I did it at no charge for a nonprofit.  They were very pleased.  I would still like to create a vector form of the logo.  Awhile back I purchased a book titled “Illustrator CS5 on demand”.  It breaks it down in a way that Illustrator is less intimidating.  It has renewed my interest in Illustrator.  How do I more effectively merge all of these tools and skills?  How do I bring what I know to Illustrator’s table? I know there are great possibilities here if I can learn to build vector graphics.

    Spencer,
Basically, you have two ways to go from raster images to vector artwork, namely to Live/Auto Trace and to redraw/recreate.
The former is (only) suitable for certain kinds of artwork/intended appearances, such as photolike.
The latter is the way to get simple/clean/smooth/accurate artwork that is truly scalable. In some cases you can use basic kinds of shapes such as circles/ellipses, squares/rectangles, (other) polygons, stars, spirals, and so on. In other cases you can draw with the Pen/Line/Pencil/Brush Tool, the first being the main general tool. You may place (File>Place) the original raster artwork (maybe in its own layer) and lock it, then recreate on top (maybe in another layer) so you can follow the original.

Hello.  May I ask:  I am using Acrobat 6.0.2, and having trouble formatting a PDF created from multiple (jpeg) files.  Each page is formatted to A4 size, portrait.  But when I create the PDF, each sheet appears as tiny, in the middle of a huge white page.  I cannot seem to find any controls to adjust this.  Any advice appreciated.

Thanks CtDave, for the further info.  Unfortunately, those suggestions are not working, which is strange.
....Until last week, I used to make multi-page PDFs straight from Photoshop: File > Automate > Make PDF.  One simply choses the files, orders them, and creates a PDF.  (Resolution doesn't matter; 300 DPI is no problem.)  However, my new Photoshop CS5 does not have the option in Automate.
What I've done, seeing as Acrobat is letting me down, is use Bridge (new to me) to create the PDF.  It worked without a problem, but seems like more work than the old PS method.  I will download a newer version of Acrobat to see if that makes any difference.
.....Also, thanks Test Screen Name:  I agree with you that jpeg is irrelevant, and that one can make a PDF from Photoshop (Print > Save As - pdf).  But that only works for SINGLE PAGE pdf, not multiple pages as far as I can tell.
    Kind regards,
    Prince Nuada

  • Help creating an array from a list of vector item

I am writing a Email Handling class that uses an Email class that I have already written. The spec requires me to (A.) Create a DisplayEmail(Email[] e) method that takes and array of email messages and displays them in the terminal window. And then (B) to create some retrieval methods ie: Email [] RetrieveSubject(String searchValue) which "will allow me to retrieve objects from the data structure created in (A.)and sorts them.
I wonder if you could give my some advice on how to implement this? I have used a Vector to store the emails. Here is what I have so far. . From what I understand I am suppose to create array methods for all of these tasks. Don't know where to begin, can u help please. • I want to create a vector file from a png file

I would like to create a vector file from a png file using Adobe CC. I am a novice Illustrator user and it seems that the instructions I can find are from earlier versions.

The instructions may be old, but the procedures are the same - you use image trace with the necessary cleanup procedures or re-draw it manually. There is no magic involved.

  • Is there a way to create a reminder from a date that appears in an email?

Is there a way to create a reminder from a date that appears in an email that was sent to me? I know that when a date is entered into an email I can create an event on my calendar for it, but is there a way I can have it be a reminder instead?
    Thank you

Here is a method for extracting a still from iMovie 09.
Are you working in iMovie and realize that certain frames in the movie would be perfect as photographs? Here is how to extract them...
*To get a still frame from an Event*, right-click on the frame and select "Add Still Frame to Project". The still will be added to the end of the current project. Right click on the still frame in the project and select "Reveal in Finder". You will see a jpeg file that is highlighted. Drag this jpeg file in the finder to the iPhoto icon on your dock.
*If you want a still from a project*, rather than an event, the process is similar, except you right-click on the frame and select "Add Freeze Frame", and it adds the freeze frame at the end of the clip rather than at the end of the project. Right-click/reveal in Finder, drag JPEG to iPhoto icon in dock.
*If you are not using iPhoto*, and just want to save to your desktop, click Reveal in Finder as above, then COPY, then PASTE to desktop.
Hint: If you do not want to clutter up your iMovie Project with stills at the end that you would have to go back and delete, then create a separate iMovie Project just for your stills, and follow the instructions for capturing stills from an Event.
Note: If you do not have a right mouse button, then control-click will work instead of right-click.

  • FAQ: Creating PDF Files from FrameMaker v.6 & earlier Documents -- Why you should not use "save as PDF"! -- Windows & MacOS Only!

An issue that has come up over and over again on several FrameMaker and Acrobat/PDF email lists as well on the corresponding Adobe User-to-User forums is that of creation of PDF files. FrameMaker 5.5.6 and 6 have what looks like a convenient feature that is supposed to allow you to create PDF files via simply saving the document as a PDF file. I have gone on record as advising end-users not to use this approach for reliable creation of PDF files from FrameMaker documents under Windows and MacOS with FrameMaker 6 and earlier. Why do I most vociferously offer this advice and why doesn't the problem get fixed? And how SHOULD you create PDF files from FrameMaker?
    GOOD NEWS
I will start with the good news. The "next major version" of FrameMaker will indeed have "save as PDF" re-implemented in a manner that it will be as reliable as printing to the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows or the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer under MacOS. I am personally working with the FrameMaker development organization to make sure this really happens and is fully and properly tested and debugged! Furthermore, this next major revision of FrameMaker, unlike FrameMaker 6, will come with a Distiller installer that will properly install the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows and the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer on the Macintosh (of course assuring that the latest PostScript driver is also automatically and correctly installed).
    DON'T USE "SAVE AS PDF"
But what's wrong with "save as PDF" as currently implemented?
The following are some of the SYMPTOMS reported over the last few years by FrameMaker users that were traced back to use of "save as PDF" under FrameMaker:
    (1) No PDF file is produced at all, possibly with a log file showing not-readily apparent PostScript errors during distillation.
    (2) The PDF file "loses" color in images. All or some images (raster, bitmap images, NOT vector artwork) appear in the PDF file in grayscale.
    (3) The resultant PDF file is on the wrong paper size, i.e., the document's logical page size does not match the output page size as seen in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader.
    (4) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file is blotchy looking or overly bold.
    (5) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file cannot be searched or indexed.
    (6) Some or all text in the resultant PDF file appears in Courier or in some other substitution font.
    (7) Interword or intercharacter spacing is a bit irregular in the resultant PDF file.
    (8) Content is missing in the margin areas of the page, i.e. you cannot do full-page bleeds.
    (9) Some or all page content is missing (other than margin areas).
    (10) Relatively inefficient PDF is generated.
If this list by itself isn't enough for you, please note that some of these symptoms are very subtle and may escape attention when the PDF is first viewed or printed. Oftimes, it is when one attempts to manipulate the PDF file in Acrobat or repurpose its content or even view or print on a system other than the one on which the PDF file was created, that some of these symptoms make themselves obnoxiously visible (or invisible in some cases I won't make any bad jokes here about graphic examples!).
It is important to understand that FrameMaker does NOT have its own native ability to create PDF. Any and all PDF created from FrameMaker documents is actually done by creating PostScript via the PostScript driver and having the Acrobat Distiller create PDF from that PostScript. The only exception to this is creation of PDF via the Acrobat PDFWriter driver, which is likewise not recommended (see below).
In order for "save as PDF" to work correctly, FrameMaker must do the equivalent of calling Printer Setup and selecting the "Acrobat Distiller" printer instance under Windows or the "Create Adobe PDF" desktop printer under MacOS followed by setting the driver's options correctly for paper size, page range, etc., followed by sending the proper commands to the driver to create PostScript.
Contrary to popular belief, PostScript as generated by the Windows and MacOS PostScript drivers is VERY device-dependent. The information in the PPD file associated with a printer driver instance provides critical parameters for generation of PostScript including:
Whether the printer supports color (Acrobat Distiller does)
What PostScript language level is supported (Acrobat Distiller 4.x and Acrobat Distiller 5.x are both PostScript language level 3)
Whether native TrueType support is available (Acrobat supports native TrueType as Type 42 fonts)
Available binary communications (Acrobat Distiller supports pure binary and ASCII, but NOT TCP, TBCP, or PJL)
Resident fonts (Acrobat Distiller doesn't really have resident fonts)
Available paper sizes and custom paper size availability (Acrobat Distiller supports a wide range of predefined sizes and continually variable "custom" sizes up to 200" by 200")
Margins / printable areas (for PDF and the Acrobat Distiller, there are no margins in which imaging is not permitted)
Device resolution (Acrobat Distiller can be set to any value from 72 to 4000 dpi; as a convenience, the Acrobat Distiller PPD provides a series of values for use by the driver. Since there is no inherent "resolution" of a PDF file, this parameter is used only for purposes of allowing PostScript programs that query for such a value to be satisfied and for the driver to be able to communicate this value to the operating system and/or application as required.)
Paper handling (totally irrelevant to Acrobat Distiller if input or output tray selection via "setpagedevice" is found in the PostScript stream, it is ignored by Acrobat Distiller)
Thus, if the wrong printer driver instance is selected (i.e., it isn't associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD file) or that driver instance is improperly configured, improper PostScript will result and one or more of the symptoms described above can occur. As currently implemented, FrameMaker depending upon version will not necessarily choose the correct printer driver instance and/or correctly parameterize the print job via driver setup options. In fact, FrameMaker 5,5,6 might even try to generate PDF via calling a PCL driver, FAX driver, or even a non-PostScript inkjet printer!
    DON'T USE PDFWRITER
The Acrobat PDFWriter is a relic of older versions of Acrobat. In fact, it is no longer installed by default in the "easy install" or the "typical install" of Acrobat 5. It hasn't really be updated since Acrobat 3 and only supports PDF 1.2. It is a GDI (Windows) / QuickDraw (MacOS) driver that directly generates PDF without any intermediary PostScript. Since it is not a PostScript printer driver, applications cannot pass through EPS graphics and/or PDFMark information (used for a wide variety of purposes by FrameMaker). For EPS graphics, most applications will send the low resolution TIFF (or PICT) EPS header in lieu of the PostScript text, if they send anything at all, to the driver. Forget about links, structure, or any other PDF "goodies." Expect that PDFWriter will fully "bite the dust" in the next major version of Acrobat.
SO HOW DO I GENERATE PDF FILES FROM FRAMEMAKER 6 & EARLIER?
The ONLY method that is really reliable for producing PDF files with FrameMaker 6 and earlier requires the generation of PostScript via a properly set printer driver instance associated with the Acrobat Distiller PPD and distillation of the resultant PostScript by Acrobat Distiller.
Case 1: FrameMaker and the Full Acrobat 4.05 or Acrobat 5.0x Products
PDF file from a "chapter" -- print directly to the Acrobat Distiller printer instance (Windows) or the Create Adobe PDF desktop printer (MacOS) already installed by Acrobat. If you check the "Acrobat data" option, then make sure to UNcheck the "print to file" option that gets set at the same time. As a result, the driver will automatically send the generated PostScript to the Distiller for you and delete the intermediate PostScript when done.
PDF file from a "book" -- print directly to the Acrobat Distiller printer instance with the "print to file" option checked (Windows) or the Virtual Printer desktop printer (MacOS) associated with the Distiller PPD (see details below under Case 2/MacOS). You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
In both the above sub-cases, the default driver options generally will be OK, but check on paper size and communication protocol (Use pure binary, not ASCII, for optimal performance AND no CTRL-D characters under Windows. Make sure to set Level 3 only and Binary under MacOS. Font inclusion "All" for Acrobat 4.05 and "None" for Acrobat 5 under MacOS.). With Acrobat 4.05, make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. With Acrobat 5, you can set this on a job-by-job basis via the driver printer setup interface (or print dialog on MacOS).
Case 2: FrameMaker 6 and the Bundled Acrobat 4.05 Distiller
Windows -- Create a new printer driver instance using the latest version of the Adobe Universal PostScript Driver Installer, downloadable from Adobe's web site AND the Acrobat Distiller PPD file (located in the XTRAS subdirectory of the Distiller directory). This driver instance should be set to print to the local port named "FILE:". Name this driver instance as "Acrobat Distiller". The default driver options generally will be OK, but check on paper size and communication protocol (use pure binary, not ASCII, for optimal performance AND no CTRL-D characters). Make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. Print directly to this Acrobat Distiller printer instance. Make sure that the "print to file" option is checked. You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
MacOS -- Install the latest version of AdobePS 8.7.x, downloadable from Adobe's web site. In FrameMaker, go to Page Setup and select the "Virtual Printer" and go to the "Virtual Printer" window pane. Select the Acrobat Distiller PPD file (located in the XTRAS subfolder of the Distiller folder). Print directly to the "Virtual Printer" (Make sure to set Level 3 only, Binary, and font inclusion "All".). Make sure you preset the Distiller to use the joboptions you want. You will need to manually process the resultant PostScript file through the Distiller (or use a "watched folder" arrangement).
    Case 3: Acrobat 3
Acrobat 3 is not officially supported for the latest OS versions and I personally would no longer recommend its use for generation of PDF files given that Acrobat 5.0.5 is the current version of Acrobat.

You're asking a lot of ancient Acrobat to work with an Office that never existed when it was made. "Just updated my office suite" is a massive change, and Window 8 didn't exist at that time either...

Photoshop CS4 - When I pullled up a file, JPEG logo someone sent to me, the screen has cross thin green lines over it. What is that? How do I remove it?

JPEG files are not layered files they are just image files so the green lines are a part of that file.
Usually cross lines are added to prevent anyone from using the file without proper rights, its a way of safeguarding the artwork.
You have to ask the owner of the file to remove the lines for you.
    hope this helps
    thanks

  • How can I create a vector path boundary around an image?

I have enclosed a screenshot of an image created in Photoshop CS4 with a wacom. It shows a grey boundary stroke around the entire image which was created with edit/stroke, then color and width of stroke selected.
What I want to do is to bring this image into Illustrator CS4 and create a vector path boundary aroun d the image in the same way as the stroke boundary in Photoshop. But I dont know how to do thatx except by doing it manually with the pen tool.
Does anyone know if it is possible to create a vector path around the image in a similar way that I created the stroke line around the image in Photoshop?
I need the vector path to make a cutting line for a laser cutter, which works with vector files.
Thanks for any advice about this.

Not only should you draw the cut path deliberately with the Pen Tool, but that entire illustration should have been drawn as vector paths to begin with. In fact, if it were me, I would do that now anyway. It's nicely done, but illustrations like that are much more versatile and valuable as a vector drawings, because they are infinitely scaleable withou degradation of sharpness.
Had it been drawn as vector paths, generating the outset cut line could be semi-automated by merging a copy of all the paths and then just outsetting the resulting path.
Vector illustrations like that, consisting of just a few colored fills and strokes, can be entirely cut and assembled from sign vinyl at any scale, rather than resorting to merely printing the artwork and then cutting around it.
Edits (recoloring, reshaping) can be easily made to vector paths without degradation, because each path is a separate object.
And whenever you do need a raster image, a raster image suitable for any purpose can be exported from a vector drawing at any time. Each such rasterization is pristine, because no re-rasterization is involved.
Not meaning to preach you a sermon; it just seems so many visitors here who have only used raster imaging don't even understand the reasons why vector drawing exists. This kind of graphic begs to be created as vector paths, and is also the very kind which would be ideal for vector-drawing beginners to start with. So it's just a good case-in-point.

  • Using ME57 to create an RFQ from multiple lines on multiple PRs

When using ME57 to create RFQs how can I select multiple line items from multiple purchase requisitions to turn into a single RFQ. If I select multiple lines and then use 'RFQ with Vendor', it only selects one line item.  After further research it appears that you can only create only line at a time (very time consuming).
If you use ME41 and create with reference to PR then you can not sort or filter columns to allow for easy consolidation.
Another forum recommended the following when using ME57 which works but it again adds extra steps to the process.
The whole process is as follows -
         1) When you are in the 'Assign and Process Purchase Requisition' screen, select related PR and then click on 'Without Vendor' icon to flag all PRs for RFQ processing.
         2) Select these PRs again and click further on 'Assignment Overview' icon (Shift and F5). The next screen will appear - Assign and Process requisitions - Overview of Assignments screen.
         3) Select the 'PReq' column and then click further on 'Process Assignment' icon (F2). The next screen will appear where you have to maintain the 'quotation deadline' information.
         4) Then click on 'Continue' icon (enter).
So is there any way to either 1) enable sorting of data in ME41 or 2) use ME57 to create one RFQ from multiple line items of multiple purchase requisitions when selecting 'RFQ with Vendor'.

What is the JPEG specs? What are the specs of the project you're working in?

  • I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages

I've created a PDF form using Adobe acrobat. I created the forms from a PDF that I made using pages and word on Mac running Mountain lion. How do I allow the user of the form to insert JPEG files when filling out the form and how do I allow the user to add more fields or groups of fields as needed.

The type of form yo're describing is possible if you create it in LiveCycle Designer. It may also be possible in Acrobat, but there are certain restrictions. The type of form is known as a dynamic XFA form. LiveCycle Designer is not available on the Mac, so you'd have to install the software on a Windows machine and learn how to create this type of form. The LiveCycle Designer forum here is a good resource for getting more help.
Reader 11 now supports creating new pages using templates with a form that you create in Acrobat (Acroform). This requires some JavaScript programming. It also adds support for using a button to display a page from a PDF, which can be an image or anything else a PDF can be. So the user would click a button, be prompted to import a page from an existing PDF, and the button (or a different button) displays it as its icon. This would require the user to convert the image to PDF first, which is relatively easy these days (e.g., using Preview on the Mac, or Word on Mac/Windows). This too involves a bit of JavaScript programming, but it's very simple and straightforward.
