Creating a Video file to play on another laptop

Hi,
I'm trying to create a video to play at a show on another laptop in HD widescreen format..
I have always creadte DVD or Blueray and this custumer needs it on a Laptop.
I need to know what is the best codex to use for 1920x1080 HDTV output.

It depends a lot on how powerful the other laptop is. If it's got a fast processor, H.264 in an MP4 file is a good choice for playback on a computer, as long as you use a good player like VLC. Avoid Quicktime player.
There are other codecs for AVI files that require less powerful CPUs, but because it's HD footage you'll need a very fast hard drive for playback. Typical internal laptop hard drives @ 5400 rpm won't cut it, and neither will a USB 2.0 external drive. For external drives, a 7200 rpm eSATA drive is probably necessary for playing back lossless or near-lossless HD AVI files. I don't have any experience with USB 3.0 external drives.
The laptop will probably need an HDMI port to connect to the HDTV.

I am having trouble bouncing and creating an aiff file that plays back. I've checked my output settings, and although I am able to create MP3s, the aiffs are blank. The happens when I try to export a track as an aiff file - it's blank.

When bouncing, do you use the Key Command or the button on the Output Channel Strip? The Key Command only bounces from the Stereo Output. The bounce button bounces from the Channel Strip it is on. So if you want to bounce out outputs 3-4 or higher, don't use the key command, but the button.
The strange thing here is that Logic, when it bounces an MP3, first bounces an AIFF, which at the end of the bounce process is being converted to MP3, so I can't imagine how you can get a silent AIFF and a normal MP3.
How have you listened to those bounces? iTunes? Quicklook? Quicktime?

the only other thing I think might be causing this is the kernel upgrade but I don't really want to downgrade that because potentially that would mean doing it for all the upgrades!

I wonder if I could write a script that would check dmesg or a log file for the presence of "*ERROR* Failed to initialize GPU, declaring it wedged" & if found to load a config to enable uxa lol

Embedded video files only play audio

The newest version of Keynote (v. 4) in iWork '08 will only play the audio portion of video files I add to it. The first frame of the video shows in the navigator panel, and the files show up and are viewable in the media browser. The selection handles for the video files are visible but that's all. This version also doesn't show the video content created in previous versions of keynote. In version 3 files I'd had .avi and .mov files that worked fine. I've checked the quicktime settings in system preferences to make sure that they were set properly. Suggestions?

After posting the original question about the newest version of Keynote (v. 4) in iWork '08 only playing the audio portion of video files I add to it, I tried every possible fix.
Since I'd been using a newer PCI video card recently, I tried just hooking up the monitor to the AGP video card that was still installed and it solved the problem.
If anyone is considering using Keynote v.4, make sure that you have either an AGP or PCI express slot for the graphics card you use since a regular PCI graphics card won't support video or animation files you add to Keynote.

Audio and video files dont play on wiki only a qicktime icon with a question mark appears

I have many users on my server who upload podcasts, but the problem is that the audio file they upload doesnt always play. Only a quicktime icon with a question mark appears. What is also very strange is when you refresh the page usually the file will play and it will work on a Mac but then sometimes not on a PC, and the files always play without a problem on iPads and iPhones.
The icon looks something like this. PLEASE HELP!

The same thing happened to me last night, except for with video. Playing videos used to work fine on all operating systems. Now it will work on Windows and iPhone/iPad but only some videos work on my Macs. After searching for hours here is what I found:
1. Go to Safari preferences, Security Tab and uncheck "Enable Plug-ins". When I tried to play video after doing this the Quicktime question mark went away but the video didn't play, it just turned into background color and I can't even right click on it.
2. Run Safari in 32-bit mode. Locate the Safari file in your Applications folder. Right click it and click Get Info. Check the "Run in 32-bit Mode" box. Restart safari. This did nothing for me.
3. Try a different web browser. I tried Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. They all do the same thing.
4. As for codecs, I updated then reinstalled Flash, DivX and Flip4Mac. Still doesn't work on Macs.
I know it's not a problem with the server because it works on Windows and mobile devices. Another weird thing is certain .mp4 videos work fine but some won't. I re-uploaded them and made sure the video worked on the server and the file is fine. All regular websites work fine: Youtube, Apple, etc.
My only guess, since this suddenly happened on all my Macs, is that there was some update that caused this. All help is appreciated.

VTS,VOB,IFO,BUP VIDEO files wont play on Mac???

I have a sony handycam DVD, From the DVD in camera I can play it on dvd player on Mac when copy and paste file from DVD to Mac cannot open any of files ?????? what can I do ???

The VTS, BUP and IFO files are not video files at all, which would thus be a problem on any playback application.
The VOB files are MPEG-2 files by any other name. Buy the Apple MPEG-2 playback component and open the files for editing in MPEG Streamclip (free) , not Quicktime, as any edits you do and exports of same will not have audio. You still need the MPEG-2 component either way.
And if the DVD uses AC3 Dolby audio you won't have any to listen to before exporting either. QT doesn't like AC3 audio either.

Video Files not Playing in MAIL

I can't view video files in MAIL after LION upgrade. Previous O/S worked great. Downloaded updated Flip for Mac, Flash, etc. When I receive a video file such as a WMF, I can see it down load and then the viewing screen goes completely black. If I save attachment and open with VLC player, it opens and plays. If opened in Quicktime, it plays audio only.
Ideas?

What happens if you switch graphic cards, any difference ?

Video file not playing in Photos

Imported photos/videos from a SD card. Performed this task many times before. This time, some video files display as "AVI", as opposed to displaying the first frame. The video will not play. The file is skipped when I use sweeping motion to go to next/previous picture/video.
Also, I don't know how to delete the file, because I cannot select it.
Most video files from the SD card work as they should.

Any ideas? Is there a difference between the Quick Time 7 Pro encoding of an iPod/iPhone video file and the way a similar file is encoded through QUick Time X?
Unfortunately, the latest iTunes update 9.2.1 has not solved the problem. I cannot get to the bottom of this. Quite frustrating. Any suggestions?

How to properly sync own video files with played / unplayed state?

Since iOS7 (I think) the Videos app on iOS is no longer showing the "unplayed" blue dot next to a movie files that I have added manually to iTunes.
In old iTunes versions, at least iTunes showed me inside the library view which movie files had been played with the blue dot.
Now with the Yosemite Upgrade and new iTunes, when I go to "Movies" (left hand side icon) then on the middle section on "Home Videos" then I get my old listing of video files, but there is no played/unplayed state icon. There is a column "Plays" and "Last Played", but those do not indicate if the video was watched fully or only just a second of it.
When going to my iPhone sync view however, the seen/unseed blue dots do show up. But in that view, I cannot delete video files. Usually I delete videos files after I watched them, and currently it is impossible for me to delete the video files, as I cannot see which ones are seen. Plus, on the iOS Video app in iOS 8.1, I still cannot see which videos were played - on top of that, when I delete a video file from there, and sync my iphone, it actually copies the video file to the iPhone again :-(
Any thoughts, apart from "Dude you have a wacked workflow"? ;-)

in relation to on to the above could you please share some thoughts on using AUSST in an enterprise environment spread over 50 countries i relation how to setup the AUSST, taking WAN Lines into considerations. We are using SCCM for application deployment and patching. Is there a comparising model for AUSST vs. SCCM?
i Get the picture using AUSST in a company with one huge Building using the LAN capacity, but what technologies are used to replicate over WAN etc?

Cannot get mts video files to play in Elements 11 organizer

Whenever I try to play an *.MTS video file in Elements 11 organizer I get a codec not installed error. I am using a Windows 7 PC running Windows 7 Home Premium. The same files played fine in the Elements 10 organizer. Also have no Thumbnails after import of the video. I can edit the videos in Premier Elements 11.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on? And, does your computer use a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card?
IMPORTANT. Please read the Announcement at the top of this forum regarding the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce issue. That Announcement describes the problem and gives detailed information on how to deal with the situation.
Do you have problems getting a video display in the Edit area monitor for still and videos from other sources?
Also of importance in directing the troubleshooting are the properties of the Panasonic Lumix FZ150 video file that you are importing and the project preset that you are selecting to match the properties of that video. From what I have read of your camera, you could have MPEG-4, AVCHD, or MotionJPEG video compression. But, with that .mts file extension, that would suggest that your camera is set to record AVCHD. Is that correct? Are you sure of the file extension and video compression for the file?
The answers to all of the above will point us to the solution to your issue.

Some of my video files only play for a five second duration in QuicktimeX.

A few video files I have only play the clip for five seconds, but when I play the same exact clips in VLC they work, it is only 3 or 4 video files, but it is a problem, also when you see the little video icon, you see the video, for the ones that only play for five seconds, you see blotches, and a grey picture. Is there any way to fix this problem? The file format is in .avi

hello shivamsood001, firefox 21 now makes use of the codecs that are included in your OS that enable it to directly play mp3 & mpeg files. in order to disable that, enter '''about:config''' into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''media.windows-media-foundation.enabled'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.
another way to download the files without tweaking the preference mentioned above would be to right-click the link that leads to a mp3 file or right-click the player in firefox and choose to download the file like that...

IMORTED AUDIO/VIDEO FILE ONLY PLAYS THE AUDIO WITH A BLACK SCREEN

I'm trying to put a DVD together of my friends' concert, but every time I export from AVID to a QT file, import it, transcode it, and put it in a timeline, it only plays audio and a black screen.
I went back into AVID and made sure that I exported both audio and video...I did. Then I checked the QT file, and it plays the audio and video.
I exported the files as uncompressed. Should I use a compressor?

Video files not playing in Mail Account

Howdy
A couple of days ago, video attachements that have been sent to my email account will not open. When they arrive, they look like they always have, i.e., they have the bar at the bottom with the tracking arrow, speaker for volumn, ect.
Then all of that disappers, leaving a black screen. When I click on that, I get a message box with several options, one being Play Attachment.
When I click on that, get another video screen with all of the usual stuff. When I click on the Play arrow, I can get sound but no video.
Any thoughts will be appreciated.
It is the email account in my iMac. Just updated to Lion.
