Creating a Video of Sound Waves

I am making a video for a soul band but due to a lack of footage I want to create a video of pulsating sound waves in time to the audio. I have done a quick search of the forums but cant find anything that helps.
It's not going to be full screen just in a small box with a white border and the video is going to be compressed to stream on the bands website: www.otbsoul.com
Does anyone know of the best means of creating this??? I dont mind using a different program other than Final Cut to create an AVI of the sound waves then importing into Final Cut. I would even pay a little bit of money for it.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Noise Industries FxFactory is a freely available plugin framework for third party effects, download and install it and you can use any free or commercial plugins that use that framework
Core Melt's Veeyoo plugins use the FxFactory framework (and are free). They do kind of what you want ... maybe even more than you want.

I recently created a video in iMovie that I later uploaded to YT. I had a message from YT a day later saying that the music I used in my video was detected as 3rd party content. I used music found in the music and sound effect section. The artist is listed as Apple Inc. What happened?

This question comes up from time to time. YouTube and Facebook are both wrong.
There are a number of con-men who think that they can earn a quick buck from claiming that they own the copyright to Apple’s royalty-free jingles and sound effects included with the iLife applications. These are all free to use, as clearly stated in section 2.C of the iLife Software License Agreement:
“You may use the Apple and third party audio content (“Audio Content”) contained in or otherwise included with the Apple software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original soundtracks for your video and audio projects. You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were created using the Audio Content, however, individual samples, sound sets, or audio content may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound files, sound effects or music beds.”

  • New to iMovie, create live video and audio?

Hello, I am trying to create a video of a live musical performance to post on youtube and have figured out how to use the isight to get a video but can I use the biult in mics to record live audio with the video?

    Hello, Nateomite
As Karsten says, you will certainly get better results and much more convenience with a camcorder.
However, if you decide to use your MacBook, the built-in mic can record audio with your video:
in iChat: iChat > Video > Record Chat records both video and audio.
      in iMovie: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/7.0/en/10172.html
tells you how to record using your MacBook's built-in iSight (and mic.)
Other movie/video recording apps may work differently, but most allow sound with video.

Sorry. We can't help you. It's no longer an iPhone. Apple won't touch it.
Take it to whoever replaced the screen and see if they can help you.
iPhones are not user servicable and Apple does not sell iPhone parts at all. I'd be surprised if you were actually able to back it up at this point. It sounds like it's completely borked.

  • Trimmed Video has sound but no picture

I need to split a large video file in two. When I use the trim function and select the first half of the video, it works great. I get a file with just the first half of the video - great sound and picture. However, when I try and create a file containing just the second half of the video, I get sound put a scrambled picture. I've tried trimming as well as deleting the first half of the video and the end result is the same.
Any ideas of how to fix this?

i have the opposite problem as you, video but no sound...

  • Sound wave not displaying (Flatline)

    Hi all,
I am having problems generating a visual sound wave when creating a track.  I am able to produce actual sound and create a sound track, but the display shows a continuous flat line (for my guitar).  Im not creating lengthy tracks so it doesnt seem to be a CPU issue.  Anybody have advice on this?  Thanks much.

Ha! That sounds like it could be it. You know, there's always this pause after you drag something in for GB to digest it and process the wave graph. It does take some CPU elbow grease for GB to crunch through this, so maybe it's just exceeding some limit?
Here's one suggestion then: cut the sound file into pieces without moving them. Position the playback line at a certain point, and hit Command T. This will split the file at that point. Do this a few times to chop the thing into bite size pieces. Maybe that'll work.
If that doesn't work, you could then try moving each of the pieces onto a new track, making sure to align them. Moving the pieces onto a new track might force GB to draw the wave, and with the now bite-sized regions.
Come to think of it, I think I've encountered this non-wave bug too.
I didn't really need the waves at the time so my approach was to just ignore the problem and pretend like it didn't exist, and then, it didn't. I guess after I encountered this I moved on to the next song which was OK! So, out of sight out of mind. That may not be the best advice, so hopefully the other thought about chopping these up will help!

  • Have Video, No Sound

Dell dimension 8200, re-loaded XP Pro SP3 (with full disk re-format), IE7, upgraded to IE8, sound driver from Turtle Creek Santa Cruz, windows media player plays sound WAV files ok.  Installed Adobe Reader X, then Flash Player Active X 10 (latest version) - says installation completed ok. Plays video ok, no sound.  Installed some codec files from download.com, didn't help. Tried ver 8, it didn't play sound either. Ken.

  • When I create a video, the music in the background does not come through

When I am creating a video of my kids dancing to music on my phone and I upload it to Facebook or email it, the music is barely there, so low you cannot even tell what it is, and the rest is the right sound level. What is going on?? Never had this problem before???

I am playing a concert on the TV and they are watching and dancing to it. When I play it on my phone, I can hear the music clear as day and loud. But when I upload it to Facebook it is barely there. I also tried emailing it to myself and watching it. Again, barely even there. However, there are other sounds in the background that are very loud, like a child banging blocks to the beat like a drummer. I cannot figure out what is going on.
So, to simply answer your question, it is in the background, not added seperately. =)

  • Creating 5.1 surround sound out of stereo audio

    Hi,
I'm new to surround sound editing, so for the past few weeks I've been searching through internet how to create suround sound for my movie. I have a whole movie already done in Premiere Pro 5 (every scene in it's own squence). In these sequences I have stereo audio clips that  create a complete stereo sound, but since this movie is going to go on film festivals I have to create surround sound.
Through my reasearch I came across many explanations of how to create it, but the more I read the more it confused me so I decidet to ask for help on this forum.
    1. Is it posible to create surroundsound directly out of stereo audio (I know that the sequences that you are working in has to be set to surround sound) that I have in first, second and third chanel, that have  surround sound controls above them in Audio mixer?
    2. I know that  in 5.1 chanels you can only inport 5.1 surround sound tracks. My question is, do I have to take each stereo clip, transform it in mono clip and then create a stereo clip out of that mono clip?
    3. Did I completly miss the whole concept of creating surround sound and that I would have to do it diferently?
    Thanks for helping out, Jaggarjack

To output to DD 5.1 SS, you will need an Encoder, like the Minnetonka Audio SurCode DD5.1 SS plug-in.
You can also use Audition (do not know about SB) to create 6-channel files (usually WMA w/ either 5, or 6 discrete channels, depending on how you handle the LFE). Still, to use such a set of files with Audio-Visual material, you will need an Encoder. Minnetonka Audio has others, like the SurCode DD 5.1 SS stand-alone and the DTS stand-alone.
If you have disassembled the original audio streams into mono sources, you can create faux 5.1 SS, and with a little work, it can be quite convincing. The 5.1 controls in a 5.1 Master Project, can be very useful for "creating" your sound stage. You can also use those to feed certain frequencies from other sources to the LFE, and to the Center channel. With good stereo in the Front speakers, you should already have a decent phantom Center, and can punch that up even more.
I would recommend starting with the Help File for "Surrond Sound," to get the basics down, plus the mechanics in PrPro. HERE is a little sample. You might also want to see the links in this PrPro-Wiki Search for more material.
The Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers' Recommendations for Surround Sound Production is useful paper.
    I recommend three books:
Surround Sound, Second Edition: Up and Running, Tomlinson Holman (cannot find my copy for ISBN)
Instant Surround Sound, Jeffery Fisher, CMP Books ISBN 1-57820-246-9
Basics of Video Sound, Des Lyver, Focal Press ISBN 0-240-51561-7
That would be a good start.
    Happy reading, and up-mixing,
    Hunt

  • Creating a video slideshow with audio

    Ladies & Gentledudes,
I have some recorded lecture notes (basically the lecture on digital
dictaphone), and also the Powerpoint or .pdf slides that go with the
lecture. I can seperate these slides out into raster images if needed
(eg use Grab to get them as .tiffs).
What software would you consider is the best/most effective to combine
them to create a video slide show of the Powerpoint slides to match
with the audio lecture notes that I have recorded? I would ideally
like to be able to view it through my iPod touch.
At the moment I can only think of using Garageband to clean up the
audio (although not 100% on how to do that), and then use iMovie to
    create an audio slideshow.
If you know of a free solution (or one that comes preloaded on a Mac)
that would be preferred, but I would also like to hear optimum and most effective
solutions as well if there is a cost involved.
Many thanks for your time and help, James

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
iMovie is a very straightforward way to do this.
Import your sound and your images, stitch them together and then export them in an iPod compatible format.
    Job done.
    Regards
    TD
