Creating a video podcast with iMovie?

Can I create a video podcast through iMovie? I was planning on recording audio and inserting photos to go along, then Share -> iPod. Will that work?
Thanks!

I would recommend Podcast Maker. I used it for my audio podcast; I've not done video podcasting but it does say that it handles .mov files.
Once you have your media files sorted, Podcast Maker will do the rest. You enter the server details, and the descriptions and so on, and the locations on your Mac of the media files; it will then in one go write the feed, and upload it and the files to your server. It writes good clean rss and you shouldn't have any problems. Obviously you will need to study their instructions first, but it's not too complicated.
(I don't have any association with this firm,)
If you want an associated web site you will need to construct it yourself, using links to the media files once they've been uploaded.
If you feel the temptation to get involved with FeedBurner or similar services I would advise resisting it: they work most of the time but if there is a problem (and I've seen a lot come up in this forum) it's almost impossible to sort it out. It's also pretty well impossible to move the feed to a different URL.

I'm not sure if this information will help you or not...but I did a podcast in Soundtrack Pro and saved it (using their podcast tutorial) to an M4A file. (I have an enhanced podcast.) I had trouble submitting the entire complete podcast to itunes, until I imported it to garage band, then iweb and filled out the podcast info again and let iweb submit it to itunes...they must do encoding in the back office of those programs, and my podcast was accepted by itunes everything intact. It appears that garage band and itunes know just what to compress to make it podcast ready. I have met with mac genius's, and done one on one appointments, but no one at my Mac store had ever submitted a podcast using Soundtrack Pro, so I knew more than they did having read the tutuorials. I'll watch this post to see what else you learn...as education about making Final Cut stuff podcast available in itunes is hard to find.

  • How to create a Video Podcast?

    Hi,
I have a question about how to create a Video Podcast.
What I like to do is record what I can see ON my screen. And I don't want to use a Video Cam to make Videos of it.
If anyone knows how to to that or if there is an application I could use it would be great.
What I am looking for more or less is an App like Audio HiJack Pro - well more like a Video HiJack Pro. The question is not about how to do the encoding once I have the Video.
Any ideas? Any would be great. Just tell me how its done and what I need to buy.
    Thanks a lot

    LaForge,
I use Snapz Pro X by Ambrosia Software.
I've made some video podcasts of tutorials of iMovie for my work, and you can see them here: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=74837876
The video gets jerky when capturing the video within iMovie, but it may be because I only have 512 MB of RAM. But for just capturing stuff like opening folders and what not, it will do the trick.

    Hi there
Sorry, but your post seemed to initially infer you were just referring to a Button you would insert on a page. At least that's what I understood when I posted with what I did.
Now it would seem you are referring to the Playback Controls that Captivate supplies? So either I grossly misunderstood your initial issue or you are now switching gears and asking about something different.
What I posted earlier does not apply to the Captivate Playback Controls.

I am trying to do video editing with iMovie 11  9.0.8 .  I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5   I have no sound, any suggestions please.

This seems to have fixed the issue: on your desktop, hold down the [OPT] key and click on "Go" in the menu bar; holding down the [OPT] click on Library, find Preferences, and then delete all the files that start with "com.apple.itunes.XXXX.plist" where the "XXX" is whatever other things may exist - as long as they end in "plist". From my experience, preference files are rebuilt by the system after the next restart, so you have very little worry of losing any important data; the worst that could happen )and NOT in this instance, but for other plist files) is that you may have to reset the application "preferences" again when you next start it up, to act or appear in a "preferred" customized way for you.
Once you delete the .plist files, empty the Trash, and either log out or restart the computer. Once you're back up and operational, start iTunes and your iDevices should reappear in the sidebar (if that's open) and/or at the top of the screen (if that view is enabled).
Hope that helps. It definitely fixed my problem!

  • How to create a software tutorial with iMovie

    Hi all,
I need to create a video tutorial on OpenOffice for college students, and I wonder how to do it with iMovie. What I need is to show a continuous screen shot of what I need to do to perform some action in OO while voicing over the explanation, e.g. the viewer should see how the screen changes and which commands I use and hear my voice too.
Any info will be much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot

What I need is to show a continuous screen shot of what I need to do to perform some action in OO while voicing over the explanation, e.g. the viewer should see how the screen changes and which commands I use and hear my voice too.
I use Snapz Pro X but there are other screen capture application out there if you prefer something different. The basic work flow is to capture what is taking place on your display screen as your are working in the application. You could capture you voiceovers and system audio at the same time, but I prefer to do the voiceovers later in case of mistakes (and I make more than my share). I then save the screen capture(s) to an iMovie '08 edit compatible compression format (I usually use AIC/AIFF) and import it into the application for editing, titles, and/or transitions as needed. I then output the project to AIC/AIFF and open it in GarageBand for adding the voiceover narrative track, blending with any other audio, and/or adding of a chapter track if desired. When finished, I export the completed file to whatever distribution format seems best. As most of my tutorials are "quickies" made in response to questions here or from the local Apple User Group, I am less interested in response time than formal "quality control."
If interested, you can view some of the "quickies" HERE.

  • VIDEO PODCAST WITH iWEB-how to deal with huge file size

    Hello folks,
I have created simple website for my video podcast. It all works fine, except one problem. I had used just small video clips for now, just for testing... and it takes long time for website to download. I can't even imagine, how slow it will be, when I have full 15 video episodes within my website. So I am wondering, is there any way of how to maintain that cool iWeb podcast structure (with podcast page, entry page and archive page) but not to embed those videos onto the page, but instead, play it externally? I have tried to just post the link to the video clip, but than "publish to the folder alternative" does not create correct rss.xml feed, because it does not know where those clips are. So it doesn't work in iTunes.
Any suggestions? Thanks for any input or advise.

    Hello,
unfortunately, no answer yet. The only solution I can think of, is to create a Blog instead of Podcast, then post hyperlink to your video file on entry page. That way, the actual video is not embeded on that webpage, but it only downloads when someone clicks on it. That way you probably won't be able to use subscribe button and RSS subscribe button, but you can create your own Feed with Feed For All software (http://www.feedforall.com), put it on your domain, then post it's URL on your website. So if someone wants to subscribe to your podcast, he will copy that address and paste it into the iTunes or some other podcast readers.
I am a beginner, so this most likely is not the best solution, however, it works so far.
    Good Luck

  • Video podcast with multiple RSS feeds

We have a new video podcast at LetsKnit2gether.com and we have three RSS feeds for our show, each with a different video file format. We’re using WordPress with PodPress to create the RSS and then we manually cut and paste the others. We have two problems:
One – We can’t seem to get the multiple feeds to show up correctly in iTunes (the desktop software, not the music store – we haven’t submitted to the iTunes store yet.) I can paste one RSS URL in the Advanced/Subscribe to Podcast window and subscribe to the feed but I can’t subscribe to any of the other two. When I try they appear for a second and then disappear. Tried in both iTunes 6 and 7 on PC and Mac. I’m guessing there is something in the iTunes software that prevents similar feeds. I read as much on the Apple iTunes tutorial page but our feeds are following the rules as far as I can tell. (www.feedvalidator.org says all is well too.) Once you subscribe to one you can’t change your mind and subscribe to one of the others ever again, ever! ...even if you delete the one you subscribed to first.
There are several video podcasts that I’ve subscribed to via iTunes software that have multiple feeds (GeekBrief, Rocketboom, 88slide, etc.) so I know this can be done, I just have to figure out what’s causing iTunes to choke.
Anybody have any clue what’s going on?
Two – We’re doing cut and paste on the WordPress generated feed to make the multiple xml files. This is going to become a bigger and bigger task as time goes on and we generate more shows. I’d like to just push a button and generate all three feeds from the blog. Is there a plug-in for Wordpress or stand alone software that will do this? I don’t mind paying for software if it saves us time.
    Thanks!

  • Cannot Import Video made with iMovie for iPhone/iPod Touch

I edited a video on my iPod touch using Apple's iMovie. The resulting .MOV file that iMovie creates will not import into iPhoto '11. While iMovie recognises the file just fine, iPhoto believes it is an unsupported file type. It's a .MOV for goodness sakes created with Apple's own hardware and program! Very strange. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Hey there. In answer to your question, all other clips that appear in my camera roll are easily seen by iPhoto. It is only those movies that I have created with iMovie for iPhone that iPhoto does not recognize. It's really strange, considering the fact that it's just a .MOV file. As a result, I've had to download a program called 'DiskAid' that allows me to transfer the .MOV file directly to my computer from the iPod Touch.
In answer to your question regarding whether or not iMovie for iPhone was worth downloading, I would have to say yes (assuming of course the import-to-iPhoto problem gets fixed). It's not a perfect program. My biggest complaint is that you have to import clips ONE at a time. There's no 'import all' option. This is really time consuming as you have to cycle through all the videos on your iPod or iPhone and manually tap each one and repeat. My dad likes to take a lot of 1-minute videos that then have to get spliced together and that can be really tedious with how this iMovie is currently set up. However, if you regularly think to add your clips to an existing project as you go along, things should be fine. It could do with a few more features and faster rendering times, but on the whole, it's a decent program. I have a feeling, though, that it was designed more for the YouTube generation who want to upload a five-minute video instead of people like my father and I who like to edit an hour or so and then eventually burn to a DVD. iMovie for the Mac still CERTAINLY has it's place.

  • Casio EX-S880 video works with iMovie '08 if audio transcoded

    Hi,
Just to let you know that Casio EX-S880 video clips work with iMovie '08 (tested 7.0.1) if you first transcode the audio to AAC. The camera creates H.264 / DVI ADPCM video clips (and they look pretty nice with 848x480 resolution!). iMovie '08 does not like that audio codec. E.g. with QuickTime Pro you can open the original MOV clip, then export it to MP4 with video "Pass Through" and audio AAC. This way you can preserve the original video image quality.
Or if you have ffmpeg, same thing can be achieved with: "ffmpeg -i original.mov -vcodec copy -acodec libfaac -ab 64k target.mp4". Btw, current MacPorts version of ffmpeg (0.4.9-pre1) does not recognize the DVI ADPCM audio, you'll need to compile a newer version from the ffmpeg source repository. Recent ffmpeg recognizes the audio as "adpcmimawav".

  • Creating a video slideshow with audio

    Ladies & Gentledudes,
I have some recorded lecture notes (basically the lecture on digital
dictaphone), and also the Powerpoint or .pdf slides that go with the
lecture. I can seperate these slides out into raster images if needed
(eg use Grab to get them as .tiffs).
What software would you consider is the best/most effective to combine
them to create a video slide show of the Powerpoint slides to match
with the audio lecture notes that I have recorded? I would ideally
like to be able to view it through my iPod touch.
At the moment I can only think of using Garageband to clean up the
audio (although not 100% on how to do that), and then use iMovie to
    create an audio slideshow.
If you know of a free solution (or one that comes preloaded on a Mac)
that would be preferred, but I would also like to hear optimum and most effective
solutions as well if there is a cost involved.
Many thanks for your time and help, James

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
iMovie is a very straightforward way to do this.
Import your sound and your images, stitch them together and then export them in an iPod compatible format.
    Job done.

  • How can I connect a Sony DCR-PC110 video camera with iMovie and import my videos?

How can I connect my Sony video camera DCR-PC110 with iMovie in order to import my old videos?

    Hi
This Camera has three types of ports.
    - Analog-out
    - USB
    - I.Link = FireWire = IEEE1394 = Digital in/out = DV-terminal
And Your Camera only can send Photos via the USB-connection - NO VIDEO.
So You Must get a FireWire Cable and eventually a ThunderBolt/FireWire converter Cable to get Import to work.
There are no real way around this.

Does anyone know what video camera are or are not compatible with imovie. I looking at purchases a new Sony HDD(hard drive) video recorder but read that some are not compatible with imovie. I have a mac book.
