Creating a whirling pattern :)

hello!
i'm new to illustrator but i want to create this sort of whilring pattern of strokes, a bit like this:
http://i39.tinypic.com/eh4y0.jpg
except i want it to be with solid lines instead of dots.
i would also very much like to know how i would go about wrapping it around a kinda of a sphere shape, like this:
http://i44.tinypic.com/6dspbl.jpg
i would very much appreciate if someone could reply to me, as i am very new to illustrator but learning these things would be very useful!
thanks in advance!
edit: i should also mention, i'm using illustrator cs5. and i also tried a bit of the 3D Rotate filter, but it comes out too flat, i would like it better if it would "wrap around" a sphere shape. thanks again!

There  is another way of doing this that leaves you with a live effect so that you can creaate alternatives and variations to the swirl.
Effect>Distort and Transform>Transform and it works like this depending on the orientation and it takes a while to get use to the settings.
Here I altered the originl path after I applied the effect.

How can I create a new pattern?

Sorry but is this doesn't appear to be a question about Apple Remote Desktop, Apple's software for managing networked Macs and the topic of this forum. I'd suggest you post in the forum for the version of Mac OS X you're running.
    Regards.

  • Creating a new pattern swatch

I'm working on a script that should, among other things, create a new pattern swatch from a groupItem in the document.
I managed to create the new pattern swatch and name it using:
    myNewPatternSwatch = app.activeDocument.patterns.add();
    myNewPatternSwatch.name = <the_swatch_name>;
The only thing I can't figure out is how to get my groupItem into the new pattern swatch.
    Any idea?
    Your help will be appreciated.

I don't think you can… Sorry it's not very helpful… Patterns were the sure way to crash a script too although I have not tried in CS5…

  • Help creating this gradient pattern

I'm kinda stumped. Basically I need to create a gradient pattern going from inside (green) to outside (brown) with a small white and yellow step in between. The problem I am having is that I need to follow the pattern of the logo in the middle, but end up with a rectangle on the outside and it needs to be a fluid transition between the colors, kinda like this:
Any advice on how I can get what I am trying to achieve?
    Using C3.

    Userbak,
    Blends like matching Anchor Points.
Presuming the logo pattern has 10 Anchor Points, namely 4 corner ones, 2 top/bottom ones, and 4 at the transition between circular and rectangular parts, you may add 3 matching Anchor Points to each of the horizontal sides of the rectangle, a) one in the middle and b) one on either side; you may move the b) Anchor Points to different (symmetrical) positions, maybe even to coincide with the corner Anchor Points. That may remove the choppiness as much as is possible.
To have one or more colours in between, you may create a stepwise blend with stroke/no fill paths, expand, and create the final blend from that.

  • How can I create a custom pattern halftone

Looking how to create a halftone pattern in a logo shape.
Instead of the typical circular pattern that is used I am looking to create a halftone pattern using a logo.
I don't know if this is possible thought I would ask and maybe someone knows how.

    > Also the dot offset, was that just random, or was it done by eye?
What do you mean by "offset"? Are you talking about the rotation of the screen?
The only "benday screens" I'm familiar with are those that used to be applied to things like cartoons or other line drawings to create tints or suggest shading. They were nothing more than tint screens printed on an adhesive overlay sheet that was applied and cut with an Exacto knife. If memory serves, they weren't always dots. There were lines and hatches, and mezzotints in various densities, too.
    > actually I'm not sure that's true, because one of the things that has always foxed me is that fine quality bendays seem to have a photographic dot screen involved...
What do you mean by "photographic dot screen"? All such pre-computer graphics films involved litho camera photography in their manufacturing process. If by "photographic dot screen" you mean a subtle fuzziness or irregularity, that may be due to the manufacturing process (did you know that Zipatone lettering sheets were screen printed?) or the repro process (acutal dot gain and spreading in the printing).

  • Creating multiple translation patterns CUCM 8.5

    Good day all,
I need to assign an employee a DID number. The problem is that he is in another state and I've only been able to ascertain that our translation pattern is setup for our state and area code. So how would I go about setting up a translation pattern for his area code? Would I need to create another dial peer?
    Example:
    Our translation pattern is 972934XXXX
I need one that is 770XXXXXXX
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Tariq

    Hi Tariq.
Is that employee's phone registered on the same cluster?
Is your provider passing 770XXXXXXX DID to your VG?
If yes, you can create a translation pattern on CUCM translating the DID with different area code into desired extensions.
    Please let me know
    Regards

  • How to create fan-out pattern solution in alsb (osb)

    Hello guys,
I'm trying to create a fan-out pattern solution in ALSB in which I have one proxy service for incoming messages and two outbound business services. All messages are to be forwarded to both business services simultaneous but independent from each other, so whenever business service 1 fails messages are still delivered to business service 2. Like in the following situation:
messages ---> proxy service ---> routing table:
all messages  ---->  business service 1
all messages  ---->  business service 2However, when I am trying to use the routing table to define the routing, I am not able to route messages to both business services. In the ALSB console I am obliged to define an IF..THEN..ELSE routing rules. IF condition THEN call BS1 ELSE call BS2.
Can anyone give me a hint how to solve this problem, pls?
    Thanks in advance,
    Harm

    Thanks for the swift reply.
Can you please elaborate on the expression to use in solution 1? My first solution was similar except I used a routing table without a pipe line instead of a publish table. The cases in the publish table look similar to the cases in a routing table. The difficulty I'm having is that I don't have/want(?) to switch between cases in order to choose the end-point as all end-points must be invoked in each case.
This is the expression I'm using in the routing/publish table:
    Publish Table ( boolean($body/mynamespace:myrootnode) )
       Case = true()
Publish to BS1 invoking operation bladibla
       Case = true()
Publish to BS2 invoking operation tralalaIn words, if the incoming message has a body then route to BS1 and BS2. But this "solution" only invokes BS1, never BS2.
For the second solution, suppose the first service callout hits an error (time-out, remote server down, network failure, etc), is the second service callout still being invoked succesfully or does the whole pipe line stack fail?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Creating a Seamless Pattern

OK, I figured out my problems with creating a patter from a JPEG!
    Woo Hoo!
However, I'm wanting to create a pattern that will not have seams in it. For instance, I'm filling a path that is about 12 inches by 12 inches with the pattern I created, but there is a seam running right through the center of the filled area. Anyway to create a pattern without seeing seams?
    Thanks

Only by making your original image that you used for the pattern larger than the area to be filled or by having repeating elements on all edges. Generally rasters don't have the elements to make a repeating pattern. If you have a regular, repeating pattern in the raster, then you just have to make the the background bounding box (nofill/nostroke) cut the pattern at an easy repeat.

  • Help Creating an Antenna Pattern from Multiple Files

Hello, I would like some suggestions on how to create a 3-D plot from mulitple data files. In my setup I measure a receive antenna using an HP 8510. The transmitter is stationary but the receive antenna is able to be positioned at different angles. For each angle we sweep the receive antenna in the azimuth axis. So for each azimuth sweep I generate a data file,  and each new sweep I roll the antenna in the phi direction. I would like some suggestions on how I would write an application where the user could select the multiple data files and then plot the data in a 3-D plot generating an antenna pattern or some call a volumetric plot.
    Thanks,
    joe

    Hi Joe,
Attached are three vi's to get started with. AzElAntennaPattern generates a dipole antenna pattern (r = sin(theta)) in radius, elevation (theta), azimuth (phi) coordinates. It transforms the coordinates to Cartesian and puts every azimuth sweep into a new row in an array. This creates 3x 2D arrays, one for X, Y and Z, each row an azimuth sweep. These can then be plotted in a 3D parametric graph. Technically the parametric graph accepts spherical coordinates, but it won't draw axes or grids in spherical as far as I can tell. I'm sure it uses the normal spherical coordinates anyway, so best to transform to Cartesian yourself. DipoleWrite, generates azimuth sweep files and puts them into a folder you choose. Choose the folder by pressing the small folder icon before running it. AzElAntennaPatternFromFolder, shows how to read these files back in and plot them. If you post one of your files, I can help with a file reader.
    Good luck!

  • How to create a Photoshop Pattern with an Illustrator Pattern CS6

I've been creating patterns in Illustrator (because it's much easier to preview how the pattern turns out) but when I bring them into Photoshop, using the offset filter, it only works when the patterns are blocked. It doesn't work if the patterns are bricked or hexed- which I use often in illustrator.
So I decided to try and just create a square in illustrator and fill it with the pattern in illustrator, then copy and paste that square into the Photoshop document. When I do that, I get white lines going through the pattern. Any advice on a way to easily bring Illustrator patterns into Photoshop? I don't even need to create the actual tile in Photoshop- but I'm not sure how to get rid of the white lines.

The white lines was a bug in CS6.  I reported it, and I believe it's fixed in CC.  the pattern maker in IA is much better than what you can do in PS.  The new Deco Scripts add a lot of flexibility.  With the latest release of CC 14.2 a user interface has been added to the Deco Scripts, making it a bit easier to get an idea of what you're doing.  For CS6, I wrote a script that creates a UI, but there is no feedback window.  It does allow you to adjust all the scripts variables without having to edit the Deco script code.  You can try it by downloading it here:
    http://uebelephoto.com/CS6_Fill.html
You will still have the white line issue unless you upgrade to CC.

  • Software recommendations to create seemless tiling patterns from images?

    Hello!
I am looking for a software solution that will allow me to create repeating patterns from a source image?
I know this can be done with photoshop but it doesnt look like a time effective way to do it, as it involves a fair amount of tinkering with edges to force things to tile?
There are also some javascript applications which create repeating patterns based on the symmetry groups, ad i know of some plugins for adobe illustrator that do this, my experience with illustrator was dissapointing [it runs too slow] - and the javascript apps where a little basic for my needs.
any surface pattern designers/ textile designers/ escher fans, etc, who want to share some recommendations?
    thank you ever so much:)

    Monika,
Thank you for responding, however I am not exactly clear on what you mean by "libraries are plain AI files". For example, I cannot find a file with the same name as my user defined library name that I have created. I can find the preinstalled swatches listed under Adobe Application Support... Library... Swatches, but a user defined folder is not present and the library sets that I have already created are not visible. I have tried searcing my Mac for a (name).ase file and still no luck (at least for the name I was looking for). I can open the user defined library from the Swatch library icon on the bottom left of the Swatch panel, but when I open this I cannot drag and drop add new swatches directly to this library. As stated above, I have to add each pattern, one at at time to the normal swatch panel, then add back the previous ones I have saved from the user defined library to the swatch panel and then save threm all as an updated user defined library. Thus by repeating this process, it builds up the user defined library one at a time.
I am using Illustrator CC if this makes a difference.

  • How do I create & edit a pattern like this in Illustrator?

I want to know how to create and edit a pattern like this in Illustrator:
And then be able to do this:
(same pattern with blue square effect)
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Read up on creating patterns. This one is just simple lines and very easy to do, but remember that the defining rectangle MUST be at the very back of the stack:
Start off by making your pattern tile (top). Drag the drawing to the Swatches panel.
Fill a rectangle with the pattern. Scale and rotate the pattern fill (see Scale and Rotate dialogues).
Recolour the pattern using Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork

  • How to create a custom pattern that tiles without borders

I know that I can save a pattern as a swatch and use it as fill, but how to create a shape that tiles without borders?
My pattern now has closed paths on its edges which show up in the tiling. I don't know how to create it with open paths.
    Thanks for your help!

    rahneo,
As I (mis)undersatnd it, you may Direct Select and delete the unwanted path segments.
Deselect first before (each time) you do it.
Otherwise, you may create a nofill/nostroke rectangle covering the exact part you wisg to have in the tile and bring it to the bottom of the stack of objects that forms the tile.

  • How to create 20000 route pattern at the same time?

I would like to create a partition which contains 20000 different number which a list of ip phone are going to be able to call.
It would be difficult for me of create route pattern one by one. Please How may I proceed?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,

If I am understanding you correctly you're trying to allow a subset of the phones in your organization to dial numbers other phones cannot.
Assuming I understand you correctly, you would be better off to go about this in the opposite direction. Current SRND recommendations indicate that the Device CSS is capable of reaching all destinations while the Line CSS imposes any dialing restrictions. It may very well be that you need to create 20,000 route or translation patterns; however, the advise is to place these in a partition that is listed on the Directory Number [Line] CSS and blocks the destination from those phones that should not be able to reach it. This becomes especially useful with other features such as Extension Mobility as the unique list of restrictions follow that DN regardless of the device it is being used on.
As for the "how" part: Current versions of CUCM include an Import/Export menu within BAT. Export the route patterns you have in the cluster now so that you have a properly formatted CSV and accompanying header text file. Replace the rows of the existing records with what you want to add to the database. You can use tools such as 7-Zip to extract and rebuild the TAR file.
Lastly, be mindful of the capacity limits of the database:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/8x/callpros.html#wp1156290
A Unified CM cluster with a very large dial plan containing many gateways, route patterns, translation patterns, and partitions, can take an extended amount of time to initialize when the Cisco CallManager Service is first started. If the system does not initialize within the default time, you can modify the system initialization timer (a Unified CM service parameter) to allow additional time for the configuration to initialize. For details on the system initialization time, refer to the online help for Service Parameters in Unified CM Administration.
You should work with your Cisco Partner who has access to sizing tools before doing this. These tools can calculate the impact that the additional route patterns will have on the cluster.
For Cisco partners and employees, the tools are available at the following locations:•Cisco Unified Communications Sizing Tool is available athttp://tools.cisco.com/cucst•Cisco Unified CM Capacity Tool is available athttp://www.cisco.com/go/cucmct

  • New MBP 17-inch anti-glare display creates a moire pattern when scrolling

This is kind of hard to explain: The color on the display is fine when a page is stationary, but when I scroll vertically, the blues (especially light blues) and reds get a strange tint to them and create an effect that's hard on the eyes. The graphics don't break up or anything but the color vibrates. It's very uncomfortable to watch. I've owned and used many Powerbooks and Macbooks over the years and this is the first one that's had this problem. It's like a moire pattern, or something. Very odd.
Is anyone else noticing this on the anti-glare display? I'd like to know before I go ahead and return this MBP.
    Thanks

Sure. No two sets of circumstances are exactly the same, so no one else will have experienced exactly what you've experienced, including the prior replacement of an earlier MBP model for repeated display problems that you haven't specified. AppleCare will weigh all the circumstances of your current issue on their own merits and make a decision about what to do without reference to other people's problems. No one here knows what that decision will be, whether you believe me or not. Call AppleCare.
