Creating Addition Scene Selection Menus

I have a group of 10 small videos that I want to place on a submenu, well actually two submenus which you can access with the "back and forth arrows" at the bottom of the DVD screen. How can I create this effect?
I can create two submenus easily, but I don't want their to be say 5 videos on one screen and the 6th to be a link/button to the other page with five more videos. I want 6 videos on the first page and a right arrow to appear at the bottom which proceeds to the next page/submenu containing the other 4 videos.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

For example, in your last "page" (with the red 3), there is a left arrow at the bottom to go back to the previous page. Well I want to create a right arrow to go to the next page, and thus not using up one of the 6 object/video spots on the page.
Short of what was suggested above, I think you may found a limitation within iDVD6 ..... Sounds like you will need DVDSP to do what you wish correctly (many more options in apple's top end/ pro apps). Good luck on this and if I happen to find an alternate option I will make sure and post back.

  • Some of my scenes selection menus won't turn or play sound.

My main menu and the first scene selection menu has motion and sound, but the rest of the scene selection menus do not turn or play sounds (music).  How can I get them to work?

First create a disk image of the project and see if those menus work as expected when played with DVD Player on your Mac.  If they do then the problem lies in the burning process.
Follow the workflow described below to help assure the best quality disk possible:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Titles on Scene Selection Menus

I have my movie completed and I used garageband to creat chapter markers. I shared it from garageband to idvd and things are working fine. I am using the Revolutions theme from the idvd 08. On the main page, I was able to change the title of the movie which in turn changed the animated text to the same as it spins. All was good. However, when I went to the scene selection pages, I am not able to change the animated text and all it says is "Chapters Revolution" as it spins around. How do I change it or at least get rid of it? Everything else on the scene selection pages are fine.

I'm having the same problem except that I used iMovie '06 to create the movie and create titles.
Using the same Revolution Theme, my chapter pages don't have any still "Chapters Revolution" to click on. How do I change mine?

  • Way To Make AUDIO On Scene Selection Menus SEAMLESS?

I've searched and have not found anything that helped.
I have 4 'pages' in my scene selection menu. I would like for the same audio track to play seamlessly throughout (when shifting from page to page to locate a particular scene).
In its current state, the audio starts over each time that you move to a new... erm...'page' (what's the correct term here?), and I find the lack of continuity or, at the very least, transition to be a bit jolting and quite irritating.
Anyone know if there is a way to carry the same audio track throughout?

You cannot do this by just selecting the audio in the first scene selection (submenu) because each submenu plays alone, and the length of the audio played depends on how long the menu is displayed. The length of time the scene selections play, and thus the audio, is determined by the viewer--you cannot control this. If your audio clip is short, only 15 seconds or so, it will repeat continuously until you (or someone) clicks on the arrows to go to another submenu or clicks on the scene to play it.
You could choose just a portion of the audio you wish to play, say the first 30 seconds, and then choose the second 30 seconds to play on the second menu and so forth. You would have to use an app like Wiretap to record the poarticular portions you want for each submenu. Then, if one viewed the submenus for exactly 30 seconds, the music would be close to playing 'seamlessly.' But, the viewer has the option of keeping the submenu displayed for an indefinite length of time, so each 30 second snipet would just repeat itself.
Hope this is clear to you

  • Adding scene selection button

How do I add a button that links to the scene selection on the disc menu?

When you add Scene Markers to your Timeline, PrE will automatically add the link from a Scene Selection Button (from either the Main Menu, or a Scene Selection Menu, depending on the chosen Template) automatically, and will even create any necessary Scene Selection Menus, to accommodate the number of Scene Markers that you have.
In PrE, such linking is done automatically, and requires not input from the user, beyond the creation of those Scene Markers, and the choice of Menu Template.
In many other authoring programs, and especially full-featured programs, like Adobe Encore, those links ARE done manually.
Good luck, and hope that helps,

  • Scene Selection problem

Ok.. Everytime I try to export my video out of final cut pro with markers... and trust me I have done many ways... I try importing my video into idvd and it just inports the video... No scene selection.... I have done this before just the same as I'm doing now with the same computer and everything but nothing.... Anybody have any ideas of whats going on????

Open the exported QuickTime movie in QT Player, do you see the chapter markers (a pop-up menu below the viewer)? If it is, then the export from FCP is fine. If not, then something is missing.
Check the iDVD's Preferences, is the "automatically create scene selection menus" enabled?

  • Chapters and Scene Selections in iDVD?

How do you create chapters/Scene Selections in iDVD '08? I created a movie in iMovie and now want to create chapters within the movie - so if you put the DVD into a DVD player, you can click on "Susie's 1st birthday party" or "Susie's first trip to the zoo" or "Susie's first Snow Day" which would all be part of the movie, "Susie Turns One". Help.

How do you ensure that in the automatically generated scene menus the drop zones are in the right order?
I have exported the chaptered movie from GarageBand directly to iDVD. I have also tried exporting the movie to hard disk first and then importing into iDVD. the scene menus are automatically created as expected and they also contain the correct chapter titles. The drop zones do appear in the correct order. However, when you click on one of the drop zones to highlight it and then use the arrow keys to switch to the next drop zone the ordering appears completely random. Unfortunately, this is also the same ordering that one sees on a DVD player.
Is there a way to change the order?
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Video in scene selection menu

Hello: I've successfully created a scene selection menu using chapter markers. Looks good, but when I go into simulator and check out the scene selection menu, I noticed that the video begins to play from the marker points without stopping. How do I create an end or loop point for all the chapters that are displayed on the scene selection menu?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Thank you for your reply. However, I think I've done a poor job describing my issue. What I have is a motion picture that I want users to be able to choose "Play Movie" from the main menu, or "Scene Selection." If they choose "Scene Selection" they get the menu with the chapters laid out. If they choose a chapter, then they can jump to that part of the movie and watch it from that point on till the end. I've got all that working.
My problem is on the scene selection menu itself. The video samples that are shown in each chapter window or button start up and don't loop back, so essentially, if you jump to the scene selection menu, you're watching the movie from several different start points, and it just runs on till the end if you don't turn it off. I like the fact that you can view a video snippet in each chapter window, but I want to be able to limit how much is played and have it loop back.

  • Scene Selection / Easter egg conflict

I have a hidden easter egg movie on one of my scene selection menus. When I burned the DVD, and selected the easter egg, everything played normally. However, after playing the movie, if I move the selection to an actual scene, then it plays the easter egg movie again, and not the scene that I select. It does this even if I change screens to a different scene selection page and choose one of the other scenes. Has anyone else out there had this problem? Thanks for your help!

Moving around buttons in iDVD can cause this kind of thing. Make sure your buttons are not at all crowded they are in reality a bit bigger than they appear on the screen.
Also check your project in map view to see if it is mixed up on other menu pages.....

  • Scene Selection JPEGs Problem

I've made an iDVD and used garage band to set up the chapter markers. I then shared the movie with iDVD. The scene selection menu is set up nicely. I have put different images on each scene selection page. The DVD intro page has a different picture too in the back ground. The whole thing looks great when we check it all out on the computer. We burn a DVD and then when we play it on our DVD player/tv an image (jpeg) file that is on a scene selection page shows up on the introduction page of DVD, on top of the image we selected, why? Also, at times when using the "pass through" theme on the scene selection page instead of it having the moving text on the bottom of the page that says "scene selections 1-6" is says "Pass Through Chapters", but not on each page.

Nope, that wasn't the problem. I have even started with a fresh iDVD project, deleting the original. I am using iDVD '08, but chose the pass through theme from the 7.0. For some reason when the DVD burns it changes the ending photo on the menu page. It changes to one of the images I chose for one of the scene selection menus. I've tried different things and still have the same problem. Is it just a bug or a problem I am having using a 7.0 theme in iDVD '08? I have made quite a few coasters of dvd's that are not how I intended them to look. Also, after importing (sharing) from garage band, the first of three scene selection menus has "pass through chapters" moving across the screen instead of "scenes 1-6" as it should.
    Frustrated here.

  • How do I automatically create additional chapter menus in Encore

I have built a menu in Photoshop. It has four window frames which will represent the chapters from 1 - 4 and will be motion menus. I have brought it into Encore CS4 and verified that it will work. I am able to select each window which are labeled Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, and Chapter 4. I am also able to link each window to a chapter in my timeline, render it, and each window does show motion video correctly.
What I am now trying to do, is to add additional menus for the remaining chapters of the video. I am unable to figure out how to do this without going back to Photoshop and creating a new menus which show the additional chapters, and then bringing them into encore as additional menus.
From what I have read, it seems that encore is supposed to be able to do that for me automatically. One of the ways I tried was to go to the menu section and try to create a menu index, and when I click on that, I get a window that opens up and a window opens up which says "The chapter index could not be created because the current menu does not contain any chapter buttons." Perhaps I am not understanding that message correctly. When I select the different chapter areas on the menu, a selection window does surround that area. I thought that indicated that this area was a button. Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?

    Hi Bill,
Thank you. I will use your procedures, however h
ere is the place where I read about the automation I was attempting. Am I reading it wrong about what I can do with this procedure? It appears to allow me to take my original menu and using the steps shown, Encore will create additional menus and links all my additional chapter points.

  • I would like to create chapters within my footage for Scene selection on the DVD menu

I have edited footage using FCPX and exported it to allow me to use it in IDVD. I now would like to set chapter markers so that the DVD menues allow for scene selection. I believe that I may have to do this in FCPX before exporting it
Can you tell me how to do it.
    Thank you

This is one of the most embarrassing omissions in FCP X. There is no proper facility to add chapter markers and export them with your movie.
The way I get around it is to make each chapter a separate project in its own right. I then export each of the chapters and when I bring them into my DVD Authoring application, it's a synch to add the chapter markers (between each file on the timeline) with precision.
As you've already created your project (presumably in one hit) create a new project for each chapter then copy and paste the relevant clips into each 'chapter' project, then export.
Alternatively, you can add chapter markers from within the preview window in Compressor if you have it - but it's quite fiddley and not very precise.

  • How to create "Scene Selection" Menu

I'm new to dvd studio pro & thought I was on the right track when I created chapter markers in Final Cut & exported as a quicktime w/ markers, but the dvd studio program either does not recognize the chapters, or I do not know where to look for them. I'm finding the manual very confusing, as it does not appear to directly say how to make up a scene selection menu using the chapter markers. Maybe I'm reading in the wrong place?
If anyone has some pointers, it would be appreciated.

Take a look here for a workaround if markers not showing up (there are others)

  • IDVD Won't Create Scene Selections

Hi - I'm just starting to learn iMovie 09 and iDVD 7.0.4. I made an iMovie with chapter markers, tried to create a DVD of it in iDVD and it would not create the chapter markers. So I tried making a "Magic DVD" and lo and behold, it recognized my chapter markers and make scene selections out of them. Perfect. I burned it to a dvd. Then I created another movie in iMovie with chapter markers. I did the same exact thing, but when I created it as an Magic DVD, this time it won't recognize the chapter markers and create scene selections. I am totally stuck.
Does anyone have any ideas I might try? What could I possibly be doing with the second movie that I did not do with the first?? I just won't create scene selections.
    Thanks

    Hi PainterLady
And welcome to apple discussions. Drag and drop the plist for iDvd to the trash if you haven't already tried this, fallowed by a complete restart of your mac. See if it helps. The Plist for iDvd is located within your preferences folder and looks like this:
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
iDvd will create a new factory default set of preferences.
Once you've done this, then repair permissions from apple's disc utility (Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility).
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • IDVD 08 - problem with scene selection tabs not working after "burn"

I have a movie that is about an hour long (made in iMovie08 using mostly still photos). I wanted to have "chapters" -- but with that option gone, I used the Scene Selection option in iDVD08. This created menus with 15 scene selection buttons (I chose every 4 minutes). The menus were automatically created by iDVD and I did nothing to change them, except to type in scene info (two-three words).
The buttons all worked fine on the computer, and I burned a DVD. The DVD worked great in my VCR player. I'd select Play Movie and it would go. I'd select Scene Selection and I'd get the menus for that. But when I'd highlight one of the scene selections and "enter" (select) -- it wouldn't go to that scene. I could go back and forth between menus, and could move around and highlight the scene buttons, but selecting would not start the scene to play. The movie played fine from start to finish, and the other remote features worked (stop, pause, menu, etc.).
I went back to iDVD and chose a different theme (thinking maybe I'd inadvertently done something to mess things up. The only thing I did differently in addition to the new theme, was to add two small movie clips - and I rearranged the buttons on the menu (dragging) to get them positioned where I wanted them. So my first menu says "Play Movie". The second menu has: Play Movie, Scene Selections, Little Movie 1, Little Movie 2. Everything worked greated in iDVD. Then I created a disk image to view using DVD Player (rather than waste another DVD). Same problem -- only worse. This time I couldn't even highlight Scene Selection to get to the scenes' menus.
Any thoughts on why I'm not able to get the "Scene Selection" buttons to work after a burn? Am I missing a step somewhere in iDVD?
    Thanks.

I am not sure, but does your post concerning the problem, that all Remote Control function will work properly within iDVD'08 but after burning the DVD absolutely not with the RC of your set top DVD player connected to your TV?
    If this is it:
Meanwhile I could figure out - after many nights of not been very productive and only working out on all the iDVD'08 problems - that **ALL** of the *7.0 Themes* have a major problem in generally.
The following points are concerning iDVD'08 using any of the 7.0 Themes:
    - Complete deep freeze of your Mac under Leopard when rendering/coding/burning a movie which has chapters and you use movies instead of still images in drop zones. (LeopardiDVD087.0Themes)
    - Functions on remote control of your set top DVD player are not working correctly when making a movie with chapters. This is generally on Tiger and Leopard the same problem using iDVD08 with any of the 7.0 Themes.
    Quick and dirty workaround:
You may avoid this if you simply use a 6.0 Theme or lower version of the Themes.
But this is of course not the clue...
It is VERY DISAPPOINTING, having software at such a low quality level deliverd by Apple. And somehow it looks like they DO NOTHING against it. No statement, no excuse, they really remain silent.
