CREATING ALTERNATIVE LAYOUT

I have create an android app( 1280X800) which is already on the store.Now i am trying to make my app available on for iOS devices as well.For each article i create alternative layout at 1024x768 for iPad users.The problem is when i am using the content viewer on my iPad i can't see the right dimensions but it just make a resize of the 1280 x800 article, leaving always a blank space on the bottom of each page.Is there something that i am missing???The iPad viewer is supposed to read only the right dimension of 1024 x 768.Is that right??;Any suggestion on what i can do??Thanks!!

So what is the best way to act in my case??In the existing folio which was created on 1280x800 i have create new renditions for each article using the 1024 x768 ratio as i have read.In that case as i have understand the viewer makes available only the rendition that most closely matches the device’s dimensions. Should i create again from the scratch a new folio using the 1024 x768 dimensions??
I would appreciate any help.

Can an alternative layout be created with right-left direction (for Arabic language)

I'm creating a publication in English that will be translated into Pashto and Dari languages which run right to left. I won't be working the translated versions, but I want to set-up a well-organized InDesign master that makes it easy for the designer working on translation to create an alternate layout that runs right-left.

@Daniel – layouting for RTL (right-to-left-direction) would imply one basic setting for the whole document: RTL for the pages. So this would rule out the Alternative Layout feature of InDesign. You simply cannot reset the direction of the pages after a couple of other pages.
If you do not refer to the InDesign feature "Alternate Layout" here, but to an independent InDesign file, the answer is "yes", you can do it. With a "western" version of inDesign this is possible by scripting.
However, using a special plug-in like inTools' World Tools Pro would be the better solution:

Creating alternate layout --- missing a step --- how do I change setting so not only print options?

Hi - I'm running into an issue when going to Layout/Create Alternate Layout on one of my docs. The following options only appear vs any of the digital options (iPad-H or iPad-V).
Then when I hit the Page Size dropdown, these are the only options that appear.
I'm confused about how to generate a Digital Publishing option from my print doc.
I sense I'm missing an easy step, but can't figure it out. Many thanks in advance for replies.

You can’t have a print layout and DPS layout in the same file. You really need to create a new file at 1024x768 with digital publishing as the intent.
From there you can use the content collector tools or just copy/paste. Alternatively, use the save as command to create a new file and then do the adjustments to the layout.

Alternative layouts & multi-language layers &

For years we use multiple layers in Indesign for different language versions of layouts.
Alternative layouts in CS6 seemed an excellent plus for different production intents as offset or digital printing have their own restrictions or specifications.
So, after succesfully using those two alternative layouts for the same content and these two different printing intents, we duplicated a language layer (UK English) to create a new language version (USA English) of the brochure, and what happens ? The liquid layout of the second layout refers to its original parent on the UK English layer... unlike the other layers?
Is there a smart and quick way to tell this layer to look for its content at a different source/layer?
Also we are looking for a way to use "Find & Replace" only on one specific layout version. This would easen the process of formatting items or text which are not controlled by styles, and without the danger to change items which should stay unformatted on the original layout.
Example: text on offset printing is standard Pantone Grey, for digital printing this text is put in 100% black to meet the restrictions of the output device. A global "Search & Replace" is impossible, because it does not recognise a selective layout and will also change the text on the original layout for offset...
Somebody has an alternative or do we need to look for plugins to achieve this?

In Belgium, most publications are multilingual. In the past we also had some trouble to convince Quark that this was a main issue in Europe to combine multiple hyphenation methods in one document (we did some betatesting on several versions). This is still not solved entirely, because the dictionaries are not quite reliable. And to get all text straight, we need to implement dozens of specific paragraph styles... and a lot of manual checking.
The control by layers, or simply spoken: to be able to split the document into enclosed entities to control text and objects completely independant from other layers, would be a great option. As well for the different layouts, which need also adaptation to their target medium (colours, typefaces, line thicknesses, etc).
And when the hype of tablets will be over and settled, we will probably urge for a more modular way of making layouts: controlling text and image input apart from any layout structure.
I cannot believe that this is a difficult aim, for this has been implemented in the nineties with several other advanced typesetting systems, not really commercial on a broad scale, but focussed on a professional way of graphic design, also to split up human tasks in a production process.
Anyway, I will be looking for some plug-ins which could solve my biggest concerns, while Adobe hopefully will come with a more open architecture in Indesign.

CS6 CC - Alternative Layouts not preserved

I'm beginning to test CC for a small creative studio and have noticed something straight off the bat.
CS6 InDesign files with Alternative Layouts opened in InDesign CC fail to 'convert' the Alternative Layouts. It just loads a single 'Layout' with all pages.
Does anyone have any more information on this?

Ah I guess this view is enabled automatically when you create an alternate layout and saves with the doc.
Too easy, I'll give you a harder one next time.

data : GS_variant TYPE DISVARIANT.
GS_variant-REPORT = sy-repid.
2. while calling pass this parameter also.
IS_VARIANT = GS_variant
It will work now.
3. Moreover, I_SAVE has 3 options.
I_SAVE = SPACE
Layouts cannot be saved.
I_SAVE = 'U'
Only user-defined layouts can be saved.
I_SAVE = 'X'
Only global layouts can be saved.
I_SAVE = 'A'
Both user-defined and global layouts can be saved.

Creating Planning Layout for GP12N - Posting Period as columns/rows

I am trying to create new layouts for GP12N, but do not know how to create the integrated layout with one column or one row for each Posting Period 1 - 12. I did read that 'Sets' were not allowed. Can anyone provide the steps necessary to allow Posting Periods as columns or rows?

b) Create 12 columns of the same Key Figure which use the characteristic period and set it as a fixed value

Layout Par file name not appearing in list while creating new Layout

I downloaded com.sap.portal.layouts to modify the light_framework page to suit my needs, renamed it to com.mycomp.portal.layouts, modified the page, created a par file and uploaded it thru NWDS.
When I go to the portal to create a new Layout, I do not see my custom par file in the list.
I have even uploaded it from the portal: System Administration -> Support -> Support Desk -> Portal Runtime -> Administration Console -> Archive Uploader. Even after it was successful, I was not able to see the par file listed while creating a new Layout.
How do I get my Layout par file listed do i can create my Layout?

Hi Bala
I never had a problem with the JAR files in this par file while opening, nor did I have to manually add anything.
I know it has been successfully uploaded in the portal, as I can see my par file in the Archive Deployment Checker.
What could be wrong? Is there something else I have to put in the portalapp.xml to make it visible in the list?

           Its simple :
          1. Display Report FBL1n.
          2. Select/ deselect coloumns you want with button ' Change Layout ( Ctrl + F8 ) '.
          3. Click Save Layout button( Ctrl + F12 ). Give a new name for layout.

Help with creating a layout.

I need help creating a layout for my program, but am having tons of problems. I just an't that good at creating this, and it's been driving me insane.

In panel 1... that will be a cartesian plain, so it will pretty much be empty until lines and stuff are drawn in there.
In panel 2, there will be two drop down menus and a couple of buttons
In panel 3, there will be a bunch of things, with two buttons on the bottom.... and this section has to be scrollable.
Any help with the basic layout will be helpful... I can put in the buttons myself. For reference, the whole programs size is 400x800.

It turn you would layout panel1, panel2 and panel3 with the appropriate layout manager. Panel2 could be something like:

Creating Page Layout Problem : Page Content Disappears

Hello,
I am a recent grad and new to the world of Sharepoint and ASP.
I created a Page Layout with 3 columns and I implemented the 'Page Content' in each column.
When I enter anything ( Text or HTML) in the Page Content and save, it immediately discards what I entered and saved.
What am I doing wrong?

According to your post, my understanding is that Page Content Disappears after you save the created Page Layout.
The issues is caused by that Page Layout is not assocaited with the content type.
Please make sure you create Page Layout correctly. You can refer to:

Hi Amit,
It is not possible to get PLD through SDK. You can only use crystal reports if you want it thru SDK. More over, PLD is client specific. So if you design it in your system, then, you need to use Copy Express to push it to your client's (end user) system.
