Creating an Action to turn off multiple layers

I am using CS4 and I was wondering if it's possible to create an action to turn off multiple layers. We have to save a version of our files with only one layer showing, and to manually turn of the unwanted layers is getting to be a pain. Thanks for the help!

Ok, here goes. An example would be a template for a spatula that’s available in 5 different colors. Each color has a different layer (named for its respective color). Then there may be a flashlight that only has 2 layers (for its respective colors). Each product would then have a “foreground” layer & an “imprint” layer. These layers have the same names on every product. I need to keep the imprint layer turned on, but turn off every other layer.
Sorry if I’ve completely confused you! J

  • AE error: AE_OpenGL: Failed to create OpenGL context! Turning off OpenGL. (5065 :: 0)

    Dear all,
    I have been reinstalling CS5 at least 10 times (without exagerating) and I keep having this error popping: AE error: AE_OpenGL: Failed to create OpenGL context! Turning off OpenGL. (5065 :: 0)
    Every time I save it reappears and I don't have a clue what it is.
    At first I thought it had something to do with my video card driver ATI HD radeon 5870 but everything seems fine and up to date there.
    Any clue?
    I would appreciate any help!!!
    Thanks,
    Etienne

    Simply turn off OpenGL in the AE prefs.
    everything seems fine and up to date there.
    Mustn't mean anything. The latest drivers are not necessarily always the best/ most compatible ones and things like screen resolution sometimes have a strange influence as well... You could always try installing a different version, of course, but since AE realyl doesn't use OpenGL that much, that may be more trouble than it's worth...

  • Can't turn off multiple pages per sheet

    Can't turn off multiple pages per sheet - I used this option for one pdf document and now the settings are sticking.  I don't want to  always print 2 by 2.   I was able to set a Custom Multiple page to "1 by 1" but this seems silly. How do I get the default single page printing back?

  • How do I turn off multiple ichat

    I use an iMac and a Macbook Pro....I switched the iMac to Lion a few months ago but just switched the laptop this weekend...now when I get a message on iChat it signals on both computers.
    I used to know how to turn it of so that it doesn't go to multiple computers, just one, and now I can't figure out how to get it back to that on Lion.
    Help?

    Hi,
    If this is an AIM Name then you could -- if it is an Off Line IM that is triggering the app launch -- stop Off Line IMs at the AIM Settings Page
    (in this case "AIM" names include Apple IDs ending [email protected] and @me.com)
    In addition to this you can also turn Off  (Un-tick) the box that also deal with this in the iChat Preference > General Section about "When I quit iChat, Set my Status to Off Line"
    This also stops Off Line IMs open the app.
    NOTE
    IMAgent in Lion (iChatAgent in earlier version) starts when the computer is booted.
    It "Listens" at the server for IMs and if the AIM Server is set to Allow you to have them then it will open the App proper.
    Both settings will stop the  issue but the iChat Preferences are better if the name is an iCloud issued @me.com one
    The later iCloud Issued @me.com names only work in iChat 6 or Messages beta due to a second login to me.com that then allows the AIM servers to "See" the password.
    This in turn means the name cannot be used at the AIM Settings page.
    Also in the iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts > Account info tab you can untick the "Enable this Account" to Log Off then Untick the Allow Multiple Logins so that only one iChat will login at any one time.
    With a Jabber login it is about setting one Login to have a higher Priority than another.
    I know Messages does this but I am not booted in to iChat 6 at the moment and can't remember if it also has the "Chat Settings" tab which allows you to set the priority.

  • Change display close actions, and turn off sleep light

    I know apple doesn't like to make these things easy to change but here goes... my powerbook is in my bedroom. when I close the lid, I must put something in front of the glowing sleep light or it keeps ME awake. is there a way to disable it? or does this fall into the same category as moving the song name column out of the first position in itunes? apple has made a decision (based on who knows what input) and the end user is stuck with it...?
    while we're at it: can I change the action performed when I close the lid? lock my user account but don't put the computer to sleep, for example? leave everything as it is but just turn off the display? mute the volume? show that I'm still online but attach an away message in adium? these are all things I could do with windows (tho I would never switch back) and I'm not sure why it seems so hard to do things like this with a mac.

    Welcome to the forum.
    If you're in to tech,you can read this.
    Description and modification of the different hibernate modes
    When the computer goes into sleeping mode, its behavior depends on a power management variable called hibernate mode. The hibernate mode can be set to different values:
    * 0 : Default sleep behavior on most Apple computers. RAM is still powered on while sleeping. Wake up is fast. Safe sleep is disabled.
    * 1 : Hibernation behavior. System is totally shut down while sleeping. RAM contents are dumped to disk. Wake up is slow.
    * 3 : Default behavior on Powerbook HD computers. RAM is still powered on while sleeping. Wake up is fast. Safe sleep is enabled, so RAM contents are also dumped to disk before going to sleep.
    Only a single mode can be activated at a time. In order to check what hibernate mode is currently active, the following command can be used in the Terminal application:
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    In addition, users with administrator privileges can choose the hibernate mode. In order to do so, the following command can be used:
    sudo pmset -a hibernatemode X
    with X replaced by the value of the hibernate mode to set. You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will not be echoed.

  • Advice Article TS1974 to create HD space to turn off FileVault doesn't work

    I would like to turn off FileVault (prior to fitting larger internal HD in my G4 PwrBk).
    I have carefully followed instructions in the above article which falters at step 19, because the new Sparse Disk Image of my Home folder, created on an external HD, is 23GB in size and there is only 9Gb left on my resident laptop HD. This is precisely the problem the above procedure is supposed to get around!
    So I can't copy the newly created sparse disk image back to my new user-account which is supposed to replace my FV protected original user account! I must be doing something stupid as the whole point of Apple's guide is to get around insufficient space on the HD in the first place!
    As an aside I've discovered a couple of errors/omissions in the above article. I'd be pleased to list them for our moderator if considered helpful for others.
    Please can anyone help me understand:
    1. How is above process supposed to save space and
    2. How can I copy my new Home Directory back to a nearly full HD without first deleting the original account?
    Apple's article seems weak on this aspect.
    Many thanks to all techies who can help.

    I'm not sure about the instructions in [Apple support article TS1974|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1974?viewlocale=en_US] , but here are some thoughts.
    That support article includes
    When turning FireVault on or off in Security preferences in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, this alert may appear:
    "There isn't enough space on your hard disk to turn on (or off) FileVault"
    The amount of free space stated as needed may be much greater than what is available ("4000 GB of free space is needed" may appear, for example).
    There can't really be "4000 GB" of free space needed, and so if you see that message it may instead indicate some system error. If that is the case then there might actually BE enough free space on the HD, and it may be that situation that the support article is trying to remedy. The method given, which doesn't delete the old FV data before importing the new data, doesn't otherwise make sense, as you say.
    In your case, where there really isn't enough free space, I also would instead try cloning to a bigger drive. The idea would be to clone your entire internal HD to a larger external volume, boot from it, turn off FileVault from there, and then test everything thoroughly. If all functions well on the external volume with Filevault off, then you would clone it back to the internal HD. This has the advantage of not deleting anything on your internal HD until you are sure that the clone works properly.
    One important caveat - you can use software such as Carbon Copy Cloner to clone to the external drive initially, but *do not make the clone while logged into the FileVault account*. Instead create a second (non-Filevault) admin account, and run CCC from there. From CCC help:
    Working with FileVault home directories
    FileVault protects the contents of your home directory by enclosing it in an encrypted disk image. When you log in, the encrypted disk image is unlocked via your login and password and mounted for use as your home directory. Mounted disk images pose an interesting problem to incremental backup utilities. By simply being mounted and accessed (e.g. via browsing the contents), the content of a disk image, and thus the disk image file itself, is modified. If you run CCC while logged in to a FileVault-protected account, there is a strong chance that the FileVault disk image will be modified while it is being backed up, resulting in a corrupted version of the disk image on your backup volume. Also, because the contents of your FileVault-protected home directory are technically on another volume, CCC will not back up the contents of your home directory when backing up your root filesystem (e.g. your boot drive).
    For these reasons, you should either exclude your FileVault disk image file from your backup routine while logged into a FileVault-protected account (and set up a separate routine for backing up the contents of your home directory), or you should only run CCC while logged into an account that is not protected by FileVault.

  • Turn off multiple page print - Adobe 11.0.4

    Hi:
    After printing multiple pages on one sheet of paper I am not able to find how to revert back to printing a single page on one sheet other than entering 1 by 1 next to custom. Any suggestions?

    Hi Dave,
    OK I’ve downloaded your  file and installed. The option Remove Security appears under the Encrypt action only if I have a file open and it will indeed remove the pw from that file and allow me to save back to the same file name. However I don’t see an option to add multiple files to the action, and if no file is open, the action is dimmed out. This is my last hurdle to getting this job done; can you point me in the right direction?

  • Masking off multiple layers (Somewhat urgent)

    Example: http://sidneysm.com/storage/MatteIssue.png
    Look at the example. I have a background layer, two or more midground layers, and a foreground. The middle layers are on Basic Motion paths to move past the "window" in the foreground. I can crop the background to the window, but cropping's useless for moving objects. Outside the foreground graphic should be solid transparency. How can I do the Final Cut equivalent of Shake's "Over > Over > Inside" to mask these layers to the window?
    Unfortunately, I need this resolved in the next hour or so. Thanks in advance.

    I didn't.

  • How can I batch turn on/turn off layers in a large group of files

    I lifted this code from another discussion that purports to say it works, but it doesn't.
    I keep getting the Error: Object does not support the property or method 'length'
    I've looked at other batch process scripts that that line of code seems to be correct.
    I know this is a very simple script, and that the turn on/turn off layer part of the script works perfectly fine (on individuall pages), but for some reason I can't get it to batch process.
    I have a multi-version set of files with layers such as "de" for germany, "us" for United States, etc. that I need to batch turn on so that I can print.
    Here is what I have:
    var myFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select Indesign Folder");
    var myIndsnFiles = myFolder.getFiles("*.indd");
    for(k=0; k<myIndsnFiles.length; k++)
       var myIndsnFiles = app.open(myIndsnFiles[k]);
    var myIndsnFiles = app.documents[0];
    var answersLayer = myIndsnFiles.layers.item("us");
    answersLayer.visible = false;
        app.activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.yes);
    Can you fix/explain what I'm doing wrong?

    I got Sergey's Version to work. See below. It's very different than my original. I understood why my original wasn't working, but couldn't figure out how to fix it. I tried inserting Laubender's code into this, but I got the same error as above "Object does not support the property or method 'length'".
    I made some adjustments so that the script turns off all layers that should be off, then turns on the layer I need.
    Everything runs perfect except I wonder if there's a way I can turn off any warnings, such as missing links, so that it processes the whole batch without pausing. Maybe that's what Laubender was referring to.
    var myFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Select Indesign Folder");
    if( myFolder != null )
        var myIndsnFiles = myFolder.getFiles("*.indd");
        for( var k = myIndsnFiles.length -1; k >= 0; k--)
            try
                var myDoc = app.open(myIndsnFiles[k]);
    var inLayer = myDoc.layers.item("in");
    inLayer.visible = false;
    var itLayer = myDoc.layers.item("it");
    itLayer.visible = false;
    var deLayer = myDoc.layers.item("de");
    deLayer.visible = false;
    var ukLayer = myDoc.layers.item("uk");
    ukLayer.visible = false;
    var usLayer = myDoc.layers.item("us");
    usLayer.visible = false;
    var intLayer = myDoc.layers.item("INT");
    intLayer.visible = false;
    deLayer.visible = true;
                myDoc.close(SaveOptions.yes);

  • How do I turn off automatic bookmark creation when combining multiple PDFs into one?

    When I combine multiple PDFs into one, I need Adobe to use the CUSTOM bookmarks I created in the original PDFs. I do NOT want the additional PDF name as a bookmark in this instance. Is there a way to turn this option OFF in Acrobat Professional? I have version 9.

    You can not automatically turn off this action nor can you remove the 'file_name.pdf' heading, but you could add a button or menuitem to remove the 'file_name.pdf' from the bookamarks. Yes, it is one more step to perform when combining PDFs, but is you want until you have all of the PDFs combined you only need do it once.
    Removing filename bookmarks created by Acrobat by Sean Stewart
    From the above article:
    "With the release of Acrobat 6 came the ability to create a composite (binder) document from multiple files, (i.e. File > Create PDF > From Multiple Files.) When this is done, Acrobat automatically inserts a new top level bookmark at the start of each new file. The bookmark title will correspond to the source filename of the source file. While this level of separation can be helpful, it is counterproductive when the user wants the bookmark tree in the merged document to be continuous.
    "Here's a sample JavaScript to remove the top level bookmarks from the bookmark tree. This script will look for a ".pdf" extension to decide whether to remove the bookmark."
    With some additional coding you can add menu item or toolbar button.
