Creating an AVCHD DVD with Nero Vision 5 and Premiere Pro

This seems to work pretty well as a workflow (using AVCHD clips from a Panasonic SD5):-
Get your AVCHD clips onto your hard drive using the camcorder's software.
Run Nero 8 "StartSmart", choose "Author Edit and Capture Video"
Choose "Make Movie"
Using the "Browse For Media" button, navigate to where your AVCHD clips are and select.
When they are in the media file list, drag them to the Nero Vision timeline.
Click on the "Export" button and choose "Export Video to File"
Choose format "MPEG-2" and profile "HDV HD2 (1080i)"
Specify filename for output and click on "Export".
Run Premiere Pro and choose "New Project" and "Adobe HDV"
Choose HDV 1080i 25 (Sony 50i)
Edit as normal. On my quad core (Q9300) PC it's easily possible to use 3 video tracks at once and preview full screen smoothly, or add effects etc - a much better experience that using AVCHD with the costly Mainconcept plugin IMHO.
When done, choose File > Export > Adobe Media Encoder
Choose format MPEG2, Range "Entire Sequence" and Preset "HDV 1080i 25"
In the Video tab, Basic Video Settings area, you might care to up the quality to 5.0
Click OK and supply output filename.
Repeat the earlier stuff relating to Nero Vision but this time you want to select the file you've just output from PPro.
When you click "Next" once your file is on the Nero Vision timeline, choose "Make DVD with Edited Movie" > "AVCHD"
In the next screen choose "Create Chapters"
Well, follow your nose from there to create the chapters, then choose the menu and customise it, and burn to normal DVD in AVCHD quality.
What you end up with is an AVCHD DVD which will play on a Playstation 3 and probably on a Blu Ray player (I haven't got the latter to test). The finished quality is very close to the original quality - on the test material I've just been trying (playing back on a 42" full HD Bravia) I had to play repeatedly alternating original and edited footage to spot any differences - such that could be seen were pretty subtle.
While there are cheaper conversion programs to get AVCHD into PPro, I don't think any of them take the finished edit and do the AVCHD DVD creation and layout part like Nero does.
Hope that helps a new AVCHD user wanting to stick with PPro. If an experienced PPro user can see an obvious technical fault in what I'm doing I'd be glad to stand corrected.

Mick,
I got a simple project with a Play all and Scene select menu and then a scene menu. There was about 15 minutes of video, but it only seemed to cover about half the disk.
Encore seems tempermental, so I had to be very careful not to change any of the assets, etc.
I never could get Encore CS3 to recognize regular disks, and that's why I went to ImgBurn (burning either Bluray image or folder).
I tried Nero at first, and it seemed like a long process to get it to burn a UDF 2.5 format, but IMGBurn does that automatically.
This summarizes my experience, for what that's worth, with this.
http://www.wrigleyvideo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=29665
Also, apparently,Sony will include this capability in DVD Architect Pro http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/bluray.
Finally, some work by others is being done to attempt to burn the BluRay project to a dual layer SD DVD which might double the capacity, but I haven't heard if that has been successful.
Let me know what you think.

Hello:
To give a sensible answer, a little more information is needed.
I am guessing that you want to set up a wireless network as you have both a desktop and laptop.
There are some pretty good tutorials/articles in the knowledge base articles.

How do i control my images so that they come fit on that pdf file for any image size that i take.
Thanks in advance

I am having a similar and more serious problem. It takes a
long time to execute, but even attaching a small image balloons the
pdf to 6MB plus. After a few images it gets up to 20MB. These are
100k jpeg files being attached. The resulting PDF is too large to
email or process effectively. Does anyone know how to reduce
size/processing?

Hi, my father is in the middle stages of dementia and having trouble using his new iphone. I would like to be able to create a few icons with photos on them and linked to a persons phone number. This way he can select an icon and it will auto-dial that number. I did some research and an app called SBphotoDial did exactly what I need but it no longer seems to be available in the App Store. Any thoughts?

3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.

• AVCHD blown highlights in AE and Premiere Pro CS6

Hi Guys,
I have the NEX 5n and Premiere Pro CS6 on Windows 7 Workstation.
It seems as if Premiere is geting the 0-255 16-235 Levels kind of wrong. AVCHD files of all kinds have clipped highlights when exposure on the NEX or any other camcorder is set spot on before clipping.
In PP cs6 and cs5.5 you can just bring all the Information that is above 1.0 in the waveform down with any 32 bit Filter that deals with Levels. But it schouldnt be up there above 1.0 in the first place or am I wrong?
This also applies to the Canon XA10 camcorder
clipped whites:

Levels adjusted with 32 bit Filter in PP = No clipping in highlights

In AfterEffects its different: You would have to work the whole AE Project in 32 bit to be able to save the clipped detail in the whites. If you work in 8bit (which is standard ae project) then AE will just cut off all the info above 1.0.
But the question is: Is Adobe getting it wrong in the second consecutive Version of PP that is supposed to deal nativly with AVCHD? Or why do highlights that are not clipped on any AVCHD camcorder, appear as clipped in PP cs5.5 and cs6
Even the opensource FFDSHOW codec gets it spot on when played with mpclassic (as Andrew Reid from EOSHD.com stated and I also can confirm this)
Also when I connect the nex 5n with hdmi to my Plasma everything plays just fine no clipping at all!

when exposure on the NEX or any other camcorder is set spot on
Are you saying the waveform on the camera is displaying the same image differently  to the wfm in PPRO?  I would be surprised if that were the case.
That paper kind of looks very "hot" and it doesnt surprise me what the wfm is showing here.
FWIW: I extensively monitor my AVCHD by using level, gray and color  cards in my shots.  The wfms in the camera, monitor and PPRO always correspond.
Try shooting a color chart and also checkout .some color bars generated by your camera.

• Use After Effects and Premiere Pro CS4 with Creative Cloud license

I have a one-year license for Creative Cloud, but because I have a 32-bit version of Windows 7, I can't use After Effects and Premiere Pro. On the website I read that for users with a 32bit OS it is possible to use AE and PP CS4 with the CC license. But I can't find a way to download CS4 with my Creative Cloud account. Can anybody help me with this? Is it possible to download CS4 with a CC license?

I have marked the remark in red. It says: "If you want to use the Windows XP supported After Effects or Adobe Premiere Pro, you have to download the CS-4-versions of the software with your Creative Cloud Membership. U can also use these versions with a 32-bit Windows Operating System."

• Budget €2300,- Need advice with laptop hardware for AE, Premiere Pro CC/CS6

Hi Folks,
These are some specific questons so if one of you have purchased or upgraded their laptop recently could know some of these things. Otherwise, any informed idea is really appriciated.
I'm planning to purchase a production laptop specially for AE and Premiere Pro.
I've come to understand that my budget allows me to have a nvidia Quadro M3000k. I guess you guys understand why I focuse
on the video card. My reasoning is: finding a machine with 3rd gen core i7, 16 or 32gb of ram, 1080p screen etc is quite easy in todays machines.
But I'm sturggeling to find one with the right, and affordable video card. My budget is arond 2300 euros btw. Give or take a 100.
So:
- Concidering my 2300 euro budget, do any of you know a good machine to suggest? Besides what I mentioned above, I'm looking for one where I can put 32gb ram in.
- In the link below, nvidia itself suggestes some laptops, I ended up with the HP EliteBook 8770w (it may seem quite cheap for my budget but unfortunately me living in Holland means by the time it has been imported and all the taxes paid, the price will be quite a bit more) and Dell Precision m6700 (this one is around 2300 euros in Holland).
http://www.nvidia.com/object/mobile-workstation-notebooks.html
- And am I failing to concider some other important feature folks?
Thanx in advance
Umyd

Thank you folks very much.
Waw I was already searching for a machine with a quadro video card for two days before I consulted you guys and I'm so glad I did!
This is where I ended up now: Alienware M17x
http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00w7m01&model_id=alienware-m17x-r 4&c=nl&l=nl&s=dhs&cs=nldhs1
It has a 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M. Which will make it cuda capable(?)
It does have eSATA port and usb3.
It just seemed to have only two slots for hard drive. Unlike some "worksations" that have 4. Is this problematic?
For hard drive I chose 128GB mSATA Boot Drive + 750GB 7,200rpm SATA 3Gb/s. Plus the eSATA and usb3 ports, it should be fine. Shouldn't it?

• Create a Flash-DVD with videos on a streaming server

Hello
As I am new to this forum, I hope I found the best place for my question. I have rented a few GB's on a streaming server, becouse I plan to open a little website with dancing videos on it. I have Adobe premiere pro cs4 to cut my video and encore to build a dvd. Since the dvd menu is quite practical I would like to use encore to place exactly the same project on my servers. This is how far as i got: I changed the script file so that my flash files got uploaded to my streaming server. I loaded the index.html, flashdvd.swf and AuthoredContent.xml onto my webserver, but nothing works..... I know that my streamingserver uses Wowza software... could this be the problem? Do I need a Adobe Streaming Server???
If you want to check the files, please don't hesitate to see www.dance-tv.ch/swidako'09/index.html This is the "progressive download" version of the project, but it seems to have the same problem as the one on the streaming server.
Can anyone help please?
Thank you
Oliver

A PNG sequence can be used if you will go through the Flash authoring app itself to add interactivity, for example. If not, or in either case, you can create a FLV (Flash video) file with alpha. This can be used directly with the Flash player on the web.
Just pull the key with Keylight, and when it's done, Add the Comp to the Render Queue, set the Output Module's channels to RGB+Alpha and then pick Flash Video (FLV) as format, with one of the Flash 8 presets. The preset will instruct you in the comment field to adjust the stretch settings in the Output Module to the size specified by the preset.
For more information, see Render and export a Composition as an FLV or F4V file in After Effects Help.

• Recording in HD & creating an SD DVD with iDVD 05

I have been tearing my hair out over this... I have imported HD content from my camcorder into iMovie HD 05 & that has been fine. I know that I cannot create HD DVDs currently, but I want to record in HD & perhaps use this footage in the future. Anyway, when it comes to creating the DVD, I get through to the 'process movie' part or the 'burn' part & it either tells me that the disk has errors or, before it is even burned, that there have been multiplexing errors. (I dont know what this means, but I'm sure there are plenty of you reading this who do)
So far I have tried:
Just creating the dvd from the original iMovie file (in HD).
Creating various quick time exports (of different sizes)and then importing them into iDVD. None of this has worked. Is it even possible to shoot in HD & then create an SD DVD? I hope so or my wife is going to kill me for insisting on that HD camcorder!
Its only a short film (approx 20 mins) & there is loads of space on both the external hard-drive I am working from & the internal hard-drive.
Can anyone out there help me?

Welcome to the forums.
Apple says that iMovie can work with high definition video, but that the video is converted in iDVD:
"High Definition and Widescreen Video
iDVD 5 now imports high definition video (HDV) and 16:9 widescreen formats from iMovie HD. iDVD 5 converts these formats to a standard definition DVD format that allows you to create the coolest-looking DVDs, while retaining the highest quality video."
So, iDVD is doing a lot of work during the video conversion. Here are some guidelines for reducing errors during this process:
Lots of memory helps; and you'll need 10-15 gigs of free space on your main hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, Verbatim, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
Give yourself lots of time.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) MacJanitor followed by Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions is my routine.
Most of the time iDVD is working, it is encoding (compressing) your video to fit on the DVD. Create an image file (Save As Disk Image) and use Toast or Disk Utility to burn it to disk. Burn slow (1 or 2x).
I import into iDVD rather than export from iMovie (fewer errors).
No other apps open.

• HOW to Burning A dvd with 5.1 audio AND WATCH IT AT HOME ?

I have had I nightmare with the compressor application trying to burn 5.1 audio and the film together had no luck . I wonder what does a guy do to listen to 5.1 files in his home cinema set up ? I know that I can bounce the 5.1 audio into the film in logic but can I burn a dvd with the 5.1 audio and film and take it home and listen to what I have done in a non studio environment ?
Would much appreciate some help on this cause frustration is not the word to discribe me going nuts for like 5 hours trying to figure out how that non musical program works .
Thanks for any feedback ...

Ah, got it.
Since you have Compressor I would guess you also have DVD Studio Pro. Anyway a quick movie showing how to do it. Drag the m2v and audio into the asset bin (you will see it in the lower left of the movie) then it goes through the steps. Note the audio and video streams are not the same length, I just threw it together quickly to show you. Of course menus can be fanbcier and all the rest and there may be some gotchas in the details, but it will generally work. Also make sure to set a First Play for the disc. Usually it is good to have a small couple seconds of black frames or warning on a track before jumping off to the next thing, and you can set the Track to be first play in this case if you like. try to use good media (DVD-R/+R) brands like Taiyo Yuden, cheaper media can cause issues.

Well there are alot of things to take into consideration, but that should give you a good jump start

• W520 Replace DVD with another Hard Drive and IEEE 1394 spec for music recording

To increase the performance, I am taking the 160 GB SSD instead of the mechanical drive. Obviouslt, I need more space than this. I don't care about the DVD rom. It can't play blu ray anyway. Is it possible to replace the dvd drive with a hard drive? Where can I get a replaceable drive for this? What do I do with the DVD? Can I sell it back?
I need to do music recording with this. I was wondering about the IEEE 1394 spec; the latency etc. If I remember correctly the W510 IEEE1394 was very good, probably was manufactured by Texas Instruments. I could not find anything about it anywhere. Not even here: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook.pdf
Also, a bit worried about the sound card. How good is it? Did anyone use this laptop for music recording?

hey udvranto,
with regard to this, i would suggest contacting tech support via the number listed in the link below to check if it is possible to replace the dvd with your harddrive.
http://www.lenovo.com/contact/us/en/
on the part of the soundcard, I believe it is good for music recording. Though this really depends on the software that you're going to use to record.
