Creating an Emergency Boot CD for tiger for use on a powerbook

Hi need to create the cd or dvd, i understand bootcd and carbon copy cloner work, but CCC does not work as i only have once hard drive, bootcd is incompatible with tiger so what do i use as i want to put diskwarrior on an emergency cd or dvd and teechtool any help please peeps would be good. many thanks or a image file would be nice so i can download that.

Both Techtool and Disk Warrior are available on bootable CD format. Contact their vendors to request the latest CD version if you bought their software.
Most importantly, you should first backup your data as my FAQ* explains. Utilities can help you get up and running quicker than recovery from backup, but they should be no substitute as errors requiring these utilities can frequently look identical to a dying hard drive, and there is really no way to tell the difference until it happens.

  • How to create a Lion boot disk for Lion on a MBPRD?

    I have a unique version of Lion on my MBPRD.  How do I create a Lion Boot Disk for this unique version?

    Why is it a Unique version of Lion? The only versions of Lion are ones for older Macs, Before the Mid 2012 models came out, and a version that includes the newer drivers for the newest model Macs, Current shipping Mid 2012 models.
    If you are talking about a version for the new Mid 2012 models then you will need to wait for Apple to update their Lion Download servers because right now they do not have the newest Lion version available on those servers.

  • Can I create an external boot drive for an updated Mac OS Maverick system?

    I'm currently running Mac OS Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on my 24" iMac and would like to clone my current drive to an external drive & then update that external drive to Mac OS Maverick. First, can this be done to create an external Boot drive for my iMac System? Secondly, can I then select the internal system (OS 10.6.8) or the external drive Maverick OS system at boot time?

    Probably will depend on just what your machine is - i.e. how current and fast is the internal hardware.
    Generally though, the performance booting off a firewire 800 should be fine for most things with little if any system lag.  My late-2008 MBP ( 2.53Ghz core-2 duo, 8GB RAM) runs quite well when booted from a firewire 800 drive (7200rpm - even my 5400rpm portable clone is perfectly useable).
    Just remember if using the external for a long or serious work session, if the power goes out, that external is not going to be powered off battery (I keep my full size external drives plugged into a UPS because of that).

    Enyone know how to get USB stick back to normal after creating a USB boot disk for Mavericks? https://discussions.apple.com/message/23527458#23527458

    You should just be able to erase it using Disk Utiilty. I did with my 8Gb.
    If not I have a USB deep format tool, but it only works with Windows: http://tinyurl.com/mwor6s9
    You can download that and unzip it, then run it on a PC to fully erase and format the flash drive. Format it in FAT, and then the Mac will read and mount it so you cna once again format it with HFS extended for Mac use.

  • Creating a USB boot image for LabviewRT

    I have installed Labview 8.2 and the "update 8.2.1" for Labview RT Standard version from the web.
    I am trying to create a bootable image for a target Laptop PC, using a USB jump drive.
    When I run NI-MAX and select TOOLS->RT Disk Utilities->Create Desktop PC Utility USB Drive, a popup dialog appears that says:
       "This utility will reformat a USB drive with a Labview Real-Time boot USB utility for use with a USB boot-capable Desktop PC. Make sure the USB drive is connected to your computer before you continue.
        Do you want to use this utility?"
    Clicking on Yes, shows a dialog selection window, with a single entry ="Version 8.2", and an OK and Cancel button.
    Selecting the OK button, shows an error popup titled: Measurement & Automation Explorer" with text="Unable to detect USB drives"
    The jump drive is 32MB and is visible in WINDOWS Explorer.
    WHY will NI-MAX not see or use this jump-drive ?
    ( I have tried two different jump drives from two different manufacturers)

    Hello,
    Does your jump drive conform to the USB Mass Storage Device Class?  What drive letter are you using?  Did you create it by running the command line utility "subst"?
    Have you tried doing this on a different computer?  Are the USB ports 1.1 or 2.0?

  • Problems with creating a USB boot device for Windows 8.1

    My iMac (late 2012) running OSX Mavericks is encountering problems creating a Windows 8.1 install disk via a USB thumbdrive. The drive has 8gb of space available, which is enough to fit windows. But when I choose my ISO image and select the drive I recieve an error message. The error is 'Bootcamp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use a ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation.
    I'm certain this ISO definately contains 64-bit, so I'm slightly confused.
    I've followed instructions found in other discussions talking about adding an extra line of information to 'info.plist' found inside the Package Contents for bootcamp, but that has also not worked. If I try that, Bootcamp crashes upon being clicked every time.
    Any help is appreciated

    First up: a question. How did you fix the crashing Bootcamp Utility? It would help out this guy: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23523783?ac_cid=tw123456#23523783
    Next up: A possible solution (also posted here:https://discussions.apple.com/message/23523783?ac_cid=tw123456#23523783)
    =====================
    It's possible you have a Windows ISO for both 32- and 64-bit. In this case it's probably detecting the presence of the 32-bit installer and forgets to look for another 64-bit version.
    A way to work around this is to not use the Bootcamp Assistant utility by following the listed steps:
    The way installing Windows should work either way using the Legacy BIOS mode:
    - Get a Windows ISO or DVD and copy the contents over to a freshly fat32 formatted USB stick of at least 4GB.
    - Download the Apple Bootcamp Support Software (4.x or 5.x, 5.x only supports 64-bit, get that if you are going 64-bit);
    - Copy the content of the Support Software folder over the the same USB stick from the first step. It should fit just right (it did on my 4GB stick with 2MB te spare!);
    - Use disk utility to partition your disk. Make sure the partition for Windows is Fat32 and at least 30GB;
    - Reboot your machine while holding Option/Alt at the chime;
    - You should be able to select either your OSX HDD or your USB stick labeled "Windows" -> Select Windows and press enter or click the arrow;
    - The Windows installer should now load, format the previously made Windows partition to NTFS;
    - Continue on your way.
    Can you try what I typed above? If it doesn't work, can you let me know at what step things go differently than described?
    Edit: This is based on the logical conclusion that any Mac that was shipped without ODD should be able to boot from USB.
    Edit2:
    One other note is that Mac's have trouble booting from USB when multiple USB storage devices are attached. So make sure you connect only one storage device.

    Best of luck to you!

  • Creating a custom boot image for Mavericks

    Hello Apple Community!
    I realize that this question might have been asked a few times already, but I found nothing using the search function (nothing that satisfied me, that is).
    My task is simple: We have several different Macs at the office (Mostly MacBook Airs and Pros, some iMacs too) and whenever a new employee join us, I need to install all the software for that person. That is a bit of a cumbersome and repetitive process, so I wanted to know if and how it would be possible to create custom, universally working (i.e. on all different models that we're using at our institute) disk images that contain all the preinstalled software packages that we're using....
    We are using Mavericks ATM, but we will migrate to Yosemite eventually (though not until I stop hearing people complain about Yosemite's apparent random bugs).
    Is there a guide to this somewhere? Would someone please point out where I could find such information?
    Thank you guys.

    I created my own simply by installing OS X on an external USB drive then booting into that drive, setting up just an Administrator account, installing all the software I needed and set it aside.
    If I ever need to reinstall OS X, I boot into the USB's Recovery HD and run Disk Utility's Restore function pointing my Source to the USB drive and Destination to the Mac's internal drive.

  • Creating A New Boot Drive For Mac Pro Desktop

    I have a Mac Pro 1,1 using Lion:
    I would like to create a new and bigger boot drive but having not done this before I would appreciate any direction that would make this as painless as possible.   I will continue to use Lion but am a little lost when it comes to doing this with the download process of Lion as well as transferring what has been created on the current HD in the MacPro.  I have a new WD Black 2 TB SATA that I would like to use as the new boot drive.  Again, thank you for the help.

    Don't. Use. 2TB for system. Seriously.
    Use that for data.
    Get yourself a $89 Samsung 840 120GB instead along with Icy Dock $15. You will. Love it.
    You don't need a large drive for the system. All you need to do is MOVE all the data and media files and every thing else, just leave the small 4GB /Users/myuseraccount/Library on the boot drive with the OS and apps. Everything else gets off loaded.
    Leave your drive you ahve now as is for backup. Move data and clone the system.

  • Create a Lion Boot disc for another computer with my OSX10.9.5 IMac

    I hope I can get this working. My company has an older laptop with Lion that has crashed. I've tried all the solutions and the results are all that the drive needs to be erased and Lion re-installed. I've purchased Lion and need the laptop to boot from an external drive so I can see if any user data can be recovered before I erase the drive. The problem is, my Mavericks machine won't let me choose the drive (external, formatted and ready) to install Lion. Im getting the following message "This version of Mac OS X is too new to run "Install Mac OS X" from Mac OS X 10.7."
    Is there any way I can get around this? I see listed on the Install ESD Packages, System, MacOSX_Media_Background.png, private, and Library. Can I just drag those to the external drive and boot the older laptop without running the Install MAC OS X Lion app?
    Sorry if these are stupid questions but I really need to know. I've got to get this machine running today, while trying to salvage anything possible.
    Thanks for your time and consideration!
    Tina

    You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program which will do all the work for you.
    Bootable USB Flash Drive – Diskmaker X
    You can use Disk Utility's Restore tab to coy the data to another drive. Note doing this will reformat the destination drive.

  • How to create a simple web.xml for using servlets

    Hello i wanna configure the web.xml that i can use sevlets and beans, but how can i do that?
    This is de directorie i have installed my webapp
    C:\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\testapp
    C:\Tomcat 4.1\webapps\test\WEB-INF\classes (in this dir, I wanna put my beans and servlets, I got one servlet and the name is LogIn.class).
    And i wanna request my servlets with the url http://localhost:8080/testapp/servlet/LogIn
    How can i create a very basic web.xml with working beans, servlets and session? It is for testing-use only, so the security is not important for me at this moment.
    Tnx

    under your web-inf
    in your web.xml file you must map
    the servlets
    under the <web-app> tag type
    <servlet>
         <servlet-name>LogIn</servlet-name>
         <servlet-class>com.LogIn</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
          <servlet-name>LogIn</servlet-name>
          <url-pattern>/LogIn</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>ps: start using some IDE such as NetBeans or Ecclipse
    since they will take care of mapping all servlets and Beans
    and generate all the necessary files for your web-app

  • Creating a template in Financials for using with XML Publisher..

    to whom..
    I hope someone can help please. I'm trying this process for the first time so please bear with me..
    Ive got everything in place for producing PDF reports via XML Publisher through ORACLE Financials but I'm stuck on the last
    part.
    According to the notes (Publishing Concurrent Requests with XML Publisher - An Oracle White Paper Jan 2005) I've come
    across, I need to update the concurrent program definition with a default template (when you submit a request, its in the
    'upon completion' last section where theres an option to change or enter a template layout) yet this section is GREYED OUT.
    Now according to my notes, to create a template you..
    "Setting a Default Template....to select a default template in the Update Concurrent Program page available from the System Administration
    responsibility (Note that this field is available only from System Administration. It is not available from the System
    Administrator Forms interface)......."
    My query is, where is this 'Update Concurrent Program page'..?
    Thanks In Advance..

    OK, so now I've found out how to 'default a template for EBS 11i' (System Administration > Concurrent > Programs - notice its Administration not Administrator)... but its unavailable.. in the the 'OnSite Setting' tab there was no box visible for me to enter a template filename. Does anybody know why this could be?
    thanks,

  • Creating a LabVIEW Shared DLL for use with C# and Strings?

    Hi All,
    I am trying to create a prototype for a LabVIEW Shared DLL that all the VI does is take in a string and return an upper cased string. Needless to say the DLL builds fine but when I try calling the shared DLL from C# the .NET application recieves an exception about "Ansi char arrays can not be marshaled as byref or as an unmanaged-to-managed parameter". Does anyone have an example of how to pass a string to a VI and return a string or an example of a better way of accomplishing this.
    We are using labVIEW 7.1 on Windows 2000.
    I am in quite a bit of a hurry to prove that this type of a LabVIEW Shared DLL VI would work. The eventual system will be passing in a string of XML with a large amount of
    data and returning XML.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jim

    Hello jprucha,
    This occurs because LabVIEW DLLs are not considered managed code. As such, we need to define the C# function as unsafe to be able to call unmanaged DLLs.
    You can find more information about C# and managed code at Microsoft's developer website linked below.

    Good luck with the development,
