Creating an InDesign document from a PDF template

I am creating an InDesign doc from a PDF template. How exactly do I go about getting the pdf template into InDesign? I don't know if I chose
the correct option, but I created my doc in InDesign and then placed the pdf template into the doc? Is this correct? If not, any advice would be very helpful!
Thanks.

Actually, I'm not quite sure, from your description, what you're trying to do. If someone gave me an English PDF and told me to recreate it it into an InDesign document, I'd start by doing exactly what you did - I'd place it in InDesign. So, now the PDF is in InDesign, as an image that you can't edit. This is really helpful if you have to recreate a PDF perfectly in InDesign - you can know exactly where everything is, and place each new bit exactly where it is in the PDF.
If someone is expecting you to add stuff to that PDF template, you can place it on top of the PDF in InDesign.
If someone is expecting you to manipulate, change, revise, or otherwise actually touch the objects in the PDF template, they don't know what they're doing - PDF is a storage format, and it's not really easy (or even reliably possible) to edit things in PDFs.
Does that make any sense? Please ask some more questions if this isn't clear.

    Hi Kaz1,
    The Word document should be editable after the conversion is complete.  What happens when you try to edit it?

  • In acrobat 9 why can it never create a word document from a pdf correctly?

    So I have acrobat 9 and because I have lots of issues with editing PDFs in it I occasionally need to convert the pdf into a word to help with the editing.  However it never even comes remotely close to converting it correctly. I mean it is not even close.  and the PDF are very simple, no graphs no pics just text. Very frustrating/.

    GIGO.
    If the PDF's "under the hood" build is good then good stuff is exported.
    If the PDF's "under the hood" build is garbage then garbage is exported.
    Using a PDF creation process that actually has full compliance with the ISO Standard for PDF (ISO 32000-1) is a prerequisite for "Good stuff In".
    Some (but not most) PDF producers do this. Adobe's "do it".
    As well if such a PDF is a well-formed Tagged PDF then export is pleasingly good.
    The design function of "Tagged" PDF is two-fold.
    (1) Support Accessible PDF
    (2) Support export of PDF page content.
    Such export can be achieved by Acrobat 8 Pro, Acrobat 3D, Acrobat 9 Pro, Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, Acrobat X Pro and Acrobat XI Pro.
    Have done it / do it with these.
    Not meaning to be unpleasant here but the problem is with the PDF you have and not Acrobat.
    Be well...

    how to edit a converted Word Document from a PDF file

    Hi Edit Converted Word Doc,
    What's happening when you try to edit the file? Have you tried triple-clicking in the text block that you want to edit?
    Please let us know what sort of trouble you're running into. It would also be helpful to know how the PDF file was created, and what version of Word you're using.

    how to Create an XML document from XSQL servlet which follows a particular DTD structure.Could anyone send me a sample code for this.

    You'll need to associate an XSLT transformation with your XSQL page that transforms the canonical result into your DTD-valid format.
    For example, given an XSQL page like:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="rss.xsl" ?>
    <xsql:query max-rows="3" connection="demo" xmlns:xsql="urn:oracle-xsql">
    select title,id,description,url,to_char(timestamp,'Mon DD') timestamp
    from site_entry
    order by id desc
    </xsql:query>and an "rss.xsl" stylesheet that looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
    <xsl:output method="xml" indent="yes" doctype-system="rss-0.91.dtd"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
    <xsl:for-each select="ROWSET/ROW">
    <rss version="0.91">
    <channel>
    <title>Do You XML?</title>
    <link>http://xml.us.oracle.com</link>
    <description>Oracle XML Website Demo</description>
    <language>en-us</language>
    <xsl:for-each select="ITEM">

    <link><xsl:value-of select="URL"/></link>
    <description><xsl:value-of select="DESCRIPTION"/></description>
    </item>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </channel>
    </rss>
    </xsl:for-each>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>You produce DTD-valid output against the rss-0.91.dtd DTD that looks like:
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>
    <!DOCTYPE rss SYSTEM "rss-0.91.dtd">
    <rss version="0.91">

    Depending on how the text interacts visually with the image, it might be possible to use the fill property of the content-aware deletion feature of recent Photoshop versions to remove the text with little or no evidence of the deletion, then apply text over the graphic however you like.

  • How to create an XML document from a String.

    Can anyone help,
         In the Microsoft XML Document DOM there is a load function load(string) which will create an XML document, but now we are switching to Java and I do not know how to create and XML document from a string, this string xml document is passed to my program from a webservice and I need to read several xml elements form it in a web server.
    This string is a well formatted XML document:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Countries NumberOfRecords="1" LanguageID="en-us">
         <Country>
              <CountryCode>AU</CountryCode>
              <CountryName>AUSTRALIA</CountryName>
         </Country>
    </Countries>

    Thanks PC!
    I made it work using:
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    factory.setIgnoringComments(true); // We want to ignore comments
    // Now use the factory to create a DOM parser
    DocumentBuilder parser = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    //TransformThisStringBuffer is a string buffer wich contain the 'XML document (String)'
    InputStream in = new ByteArrayInputStream(TransformThisStringBuffer.toString().getBytes());
    // Parse the InputStream and build the document
    Document document = parser.parse(in);
    But which one is faster InputSource or InputStream, were would you put the "new InputSource(new StringReader(yourString))" in the above code?

  • Is there a way to find and replace prices in an Indesign document from a CSV file?

    Is there a way to find and replace prices in an Indesign document from a CSV file. Currenty I have a catalog with codes and prices in tables. I need to find a way to look up the code (and new price) in the CSV file and overwrite the price in the current table with the new price. Does anyone know of a script to run this quickly?

    Hi,
    Try this
    1) with all the images showing, got to Find -> By caption or Note
    2) enter the caption you are looking for Image Description and click on OK
    It should display all the ones with that caption
    3) select a few images as a test
    4) go to Edit -> Add caption to selected items
    5) if you want to blank out the captions just check the box to replace the caption and click on ok
    6) You will need to confirm the blank captions
    You could use a similar procedure to change the caption to something else.
    Good luck

    Dear Sandesh
    Go to VOV7, select your item category.  In this maintain K  for Billing Relevance
    Now go to VF01, give the delivery number and do not press Enter.  Instead click on Selection list on the next screen, select the items you want to bill and click copy and continue if necessary

  • Want to create a InDesign document that is Interactive as a PDF

    I want to create an InDesign form that is made into a PDF that can be filled out (populated with their answers) and returned via email to someone.
    Can I make the document in InDesign or do I have to do it in Acrobat? I am running CS2.
    If you can point me into the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks
    Barb

    Just started doing interactive PDFs so I'm learning as I go. Been using Sandee's VQS and Scott Citron's Professional Design Techniques to learn the mechanics. Scott's book is my current favorite. Sure hope he gets well soon.
    I rushed through most of the books to get the first issue out but I have a week or so to smooth out my template. Main concern is navigation. I don't want page numbers on the pages but I do want people to click on nav guide and be taken to a specific page. Here's an example of what I mean (note how the page you're on is indicated in red):
    layout template
    I can't upload the entire PDF since it's proprietary material. Not even sure there is still an Adobe magazine. Is that now called Layers?
    Reading up on bookmarks, buttons and hyperlinks this morning. If I complete my template today, I'll put it up later.
