Creating animations from jpegs

I need to create animations fron a set of jpegs. I can layer selections in photoshop; create symbols in Flash, although When I open a multi-layer psd in FL, don't always get multi-layers in FL. More importantly, what graphic/symbol formats are required for the typical animation techniques (eg, different tweens, bones, puppet). Can't seem to find this info anywhere. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ron

with classic tweening, use vectors. to convert a bitmap to a vector in flash, select it, click modify, bitmap, trace bitmap. with motion tweening convert your bitmaps to movieclips (right click, click convert, convert to movieclip).

Problems creating PDF from JPEGs.

I am using Acrobat Standard 6.0.5. I am having trouble creating a PDF from certain JPEGs. I created these JPEGs using a scanner and Photoshop Elements 5, saving them as 8-bit grayscale at 300dpi. When I create a PDF from these JPEGs in Acrobat, I get a blank, 1 inch x 1 inch image. I've tried zooming in and out and the image is still blank. The funny thing is that I can extract the JPEGs from the newly created PDF, so they are somehow present; I just can't see them.
Some other data points:
1. I can create a PDF from JPEGs from my digital camera. These are 180 dpi, 24-bit color, but otherwise I don't see any notable differences.
2. I've tried converting the problematic JPEGs to 24-bit color. That made no difference.
3. I've tried converting the problematic JPEGs to JPEG2000. That *did* make a difference -- I can create a PDF from them just fine.
4. I can open the problematic JPEGs in Photoshop Elements and *print* them to PDF. That works just fine.
There's obviously something about these files that Acrobat doesn't like, or else some configuration setting in Acrobat that needs to be adjusted, but I can't figure out what it is.

JPegs are often problems. You might try saving to TIFF instead, the standard for scanners.

Create animation from some layers..how ?

I can see make frames from layers, but with a many layered psd file of which I only have 5 frames I want to see how they animate, how do I tell the animate palette to make frames from just the selected layers ?
Surely this has to be an option, there are always going to be layers during an artwork build that are options or earlier efforts etc that you may wish to revisit, to have the entire lot dumped into animate is a pain. Its not obviuos which they are when in there, layer names dont appear.

I have just tried a test, created new file, 5 layers, labelled them 0, 1 2 3 4, turned off 0 2 and 4 and went to animation palette, create frames from layers and ended up with all 5 in there.
How do I get just specific layers into the animation and not all.
What you mean is, the 'create frames from layers option' from the triangle on white disc icon will dump all layers in each as a separate frame.
To get specific layers in, it has to be done one layer at a time, choose new frame then turn on just the layer you want for that frame, selectt new frame again and turn off all but the next layer you want in, and so on, then delete any frames not wanted like the first which picks up on whatever was turned on when animation palette was opened.
For a many layered file its time consuming but thats how it is. An option to make frames from visible layers would be useful !

Document size changes when creating pdf from jpeg

When I create a pdf from a jpeg file, the document size increases considerably. The native jpeg was saved in the "save to web" feature in Photoshop. I cannot find settings in ImageReady or Acrobat to make my document the correct size. Any suggestions?

Why not save the PDF from Photoshop directly? This gives full control
over compression settings. It will not, however, downsample so you
should do that first.

Creating Pattern from jpeg

I am having trouble creating a fill pattern from a jpeg. According to instructions, it seems all I would have to do
is select the jpeg with the selection tool, go to Edit, Define Pattern, type in a name for the new pattern and presto, it shows up in the Pattern Pallette. I've also tried defining a portion of the jpeg -- which has been placed with a link into Illustrator -- with an unfilled rectangle (bounding box) with no luck.
Anyone have any suggestions of where I'm going wrong?
I appreciate any help you can provide.

Create PDF from JPEG - no compression

I want to create a PDF of some JPEGs and when I do the completed pdf enlarges the actual jpegs to fit the screen at 100% magnification. I do not want it to do this as it looks blurry. I've looked for options to change thsi and see none. Any ideas? Using version 8.

Figured it out, it's actually my acrobat res was set higher than screen res.

Creating PDF from jpegs - Scale issue!

Hello,
I have a series of envelope sized jpegs which i want to convert to pdf. However,when i convert the jpegs to pdf, the scale of the sheets becomes all screwed up (when i 100% zoom the pdf document, the sheets are tiny - way smaller than they were in jpeg format). Is there a way of converting my jpegs to pdf while still maintaining 1:1 scale? Im using Acrobat 8 Professional.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Quicktime 7 allowed a user to be able to select a series of images and create an movie file with a time interval..
The Quicktime 7 for Snow Leopard from the Snow Leopard Installer dvd does not allow you to select more than one image..
How can I create a movie from a series of images jpgs.s...
We do scientific work climate modeling and this was a great tool to create animations..
Where did it go.. there is no ability to do this in Quicktime X..
Does anyone know how to make this functionality work?

Ok I got it...
Just select the first frame and then you get a dialog box that sets the time interval...
It AUTOMATICALLY selects all the rest of the images if they are sequentially numbered...

In the Animation Timeline panel menu "create frames from layers" is not showing.

I am watching a tutorial on basic animation and when it gets to the point where they say to open the "Animation Timeline Panel Menu" the panel that opens for me is not the same one in the tutorial. I am supposed to click on "create frames from layers" but that is not an option. I'm confused as to why my panel is not the same as the one in the tutorial.

It could be that you are using a different version of photoshop. Some of the older versions were split into two versions a standard version and an extended version, in most of those versions, it was required to have the extended version to use video editing features.
Perhaps you could tell us what version of photoshop you have and what operating system.

How do I create an animation from stills (100's of stills!)

I have a load of still images that I want to make a straightforward animation from. Current I have to for each frame:
click still image to get it in the 'viewer'
select duration box and enter 1 frame
Drag from viewer to canvas 'insert' box
With hundreds and by the time I have finished thousands of images this is very slow and labour intensive. Is there a simpler way to do this? I am sure in my distant memory there was a free third party program I used where you could select all the stills and it would string them together but ideally I would like to do it in FCE.

Only other points to note are;
Images are 1504 x 1000
Version 3.5 of FCE
Still on OSX 10.4

Put your stills in a folder numbered sequentially in the order in which you want them with leading zeros. Set the still import preference in the second panel of user preferences to one frame. Import the folder. Drag the folder to the timeline.
You can also open the image sequence in the QT pro player, set the frame rate you want, and convert it to a QuickTime movie.

Animation from layers

I'm tying to make an animation from layers in Photoshop 6, but when I use the timeline window, the "convert frames' options as well as other options are greyed. It doesn't grey when I open a video file.
I'm tried using JPEG and GIF files as the layers, but am unsure what I'm to do at this point.

The timeline palette handles two type of animations. Frame Animations and Video Timeline. Each mode has different option and option will gray out when they are not current available for some required condition or state does not exists. Some examples:
Frame Animation with a single layer document. note Frame animation options does not have a "convert frames" option that a video timeline option. Note however other option like make frames from layer are grayed out. The because the are no additional layers to make frames with.
Converted to Video timeline you can see there is a "convert frames" but other options are grayed out for they are not available for this document in its current state.
Here a layered single in this case document in Photoshop video timeline option "convert frames" grayed out for there is nothing in the video timeline but a button to create a frame animation.
Video Timeline with no document open looks like the above options however you can see there is nothing in the video timeline. The create frame animation button does not hide the video timeline contents.

Workflow for creating animations for web (Creative Suite CS6)

Hi,
I was wondering about what the best workflow is for creating animated videos for the web (say, YouTube) once the project reaches the "computer" stage (i.e. story, look etc. are all decided).
Is it best to use Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks to draw everything if the software to animate these drawings is After Effects?
The project I'm talking about is as of yet hypothetical but would be relatively short (90 seconds) and simple as I don't have much experience with this at all - hence my question.
I've been looking around for a good set of basic tutorials but can't really work out how to go about this from start to finish using the Adobe Suite.

size is mort important than format. I prefer PSD files, but png, tiff, tga, even jpeg if you do not need transparency. Just make them big enough that at some point in your composition they are scaled to 100%. IOW, if you are drawing full frame animation cells for HD they do not need to be any bigger than 1920 X 1080 pixels. If you are going to scale them up or move in on some details then the area you are going to be pushing in on needs to be 1980 X 1920.

Creating Animated GIF using Frames

I would like to create an animated gif without using the 'tween' tool. Basically, I'd like to have an object move across the screen, stop at one point, perform a task (i.e., move arms/legs up and down in a 'jumping jack' style) and then continue on across the screen. I create the first frame then click on the 'duplicate frame' icon. In this frame I use the puppet warp feature to change the position of my object's arms/legs. Next, I duplicate the frame again and repeat the puppet warp process. Finally, I continue to duplicate the frames, moving the object 'x' spaces each frame until it finishes its journey across the screen.
Unfortunately, when I change the position of my object's legs/arms, it changes all of them across all frames. However, the program still allows the object to continue its journey across the screen.
Because of this, I have had to create separate jpg files for each and every one of the object position changes, then import each one with the 'place' tool into the layers and finally create frames from layers and save the gif that way.
Is there a way to do the above without having to create a separate jpg for each one?

Hi SweetFang,
If you're using the Puppet Warp tool, I may suggest you change your workflow. When you duplicate a frame, it doesn't necessarily duplicate the object that is being animated so each change you make will show up in every frame. Instead of duplicating frames to make your changes, try duplicating layers. It will be a good deal easier than saving out a .jpg for each image and then placing them in.
1. Create your background.
2. Create a new layer for the object you will animate. Position it how you want it to look in the first frame of your animation.
3. Now, duplicate the layer and use the puppet transform tool to make your first change.
4. Repeat this process: duplicate your most recent layer, make your change, duplicate your most recent layer, make your change, etc. (To keep your workspace clear you may want to make each previous layer invisible when you add a new one)
5. When you're completely finished, open your Animation panel (CS5) or Timeline panel (CS6) and in the flyout menu, choose Make Frames From Layers
This workflow is essentially what you're doing already, but you're duplicating layers instead of frames and then making the frames automatically.
Please let me know if this makes your project a little bit smoother.

Creating animations with transparent backgrounds?

I'm running into some problems when using After Effects to create animations with transparent backgrounds for Keynote...
I use animated gifs and short quicktime movies with uniform backgrounds as source files, use color keying to take out the backgrounds, preview them to see if they look OK, render the results as RGB+alpha, and... they don't show up as transparent in Keynote. They work in Powerpoint, however. I've tried outputting as .mov, as .gif, as premultiplied vs straight alpha... no joy. Can someone explain (or point me to an explanation) of how Keynote differs from other programs in its handling of transparency? What am I missing?

Using a TYPE_INT_ARGB BufferedImage worked beautifully. I had played around with Image for hours, but it never occurred to me that BufferedImage would be needed. :)
