Creating Apple TV photo slideshow in Windows/Converting .mov to Apple TV

I have a newly purchased 160 GB Apple TV and am having some difficulty creating a slideshow. Ideally, Apple would offer iPhoto for Windows or I would own a Mac, but neither is currently true.
So, what is the best/easiest/cheapest way to create an iPhoto-esque slideshow in Windows XP? (transitions and audio track)
In my initial attempts to accomplish this task, I have created a slideshow using QuickTime. I opened a music file in QuickTime, then opened an Image Sequence in QuickTime, then copied the image sequence and Added and Scaled to the audio track. Finally, I saved this "slideshow" as a QuickTime movie (.mov). This isn't ideal, because there are no transitions and if the photos aren't all landscape it's troublesome. Nonetheless, I tried to open this QuickTime Movie then use the Export to Apple TV conversion process. Unfortunately, QuickTime basically just freezes when I try this. The progress bar never moves from 0%. Any advice here?
Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The simplest way to make a slideshow without adobe photo elements is simply to put collections of photos into folders and sync them to the tv. tv will allow you to add transitions and add a soundtrack from any music you also have synced. In the current version of tv the ending of the slideshow is a little abrupt but I'm sure it will improve in future versions.
I can't think why QT won't convert your QT (slideshow) movies, perhaps you can tell us a little about the movie. Open in QT, open the movie info window and post back the info you find there.

  • Can II have create a 160 photo slideshow as a looping DVD for a TV set DVD?

I have ~160 digital photos that I would like to run as a looping show for a family party. They range in size from .5 to 1.5 mb. I know each chapter in iDVD5 has a 99 picture limit, so that won't work for me.
I've imported the photos from iPhoto while in iMovieHD, put transitions between them, then imported that project while in iDVD. It had 2 chapters (one with 99 pics) with one chapter set to loop. I burned it and could watch it on my tv's dvd (a Samsung), though it did not loop at all. The DVD wouldn't even play on a Sony DVD player.
I can't quite justify (or afford a Final Cut product), but might have hit the limit of iLife.

Can I have create a 160 photo slideshow as a looping DVD for a TV set DVD?
Not sure why your iMovie method did not work. If you put your iMovie in the "autoplay" area you see in the map layout of iDVD and set it to "loop" in the advanced menu, it should loop just fine.

If this didn't work on some DVD players, you might try another brand of DVD-R. I like verbatim.
Alternatively, you can make the slideshow in iPhoto and use "Send to iDVD" - this also creates a QT file, so it is not subject to the 99 slide limit.

  • Using Media Manager to convert movies to apple pro res

Using Media Manager to convert movies to apple pro res,  How can I convert my existing media files  from quicktime movies into apple pro res 422 ?
After they are converted will I have to re-point my fcp project to the converted files?
Thank You for taking time to answer these
    Carl

    Sorry, I am not following.
You said you have converted them to prores LT & are having this issue, or is it with H264 files in your edit?
How did you convert? using media manager, or compressor?
if you still are using the H264 media that would be the issue.
That is not an editing codec. it is a delivery codec.
The thing to have done would have been to convert to prores before you started editing.
    or did you do that?

  • Creating Hgh Resolution photo slideshow to upload to youtube

Hi, I've created a slideshow in iPhoto with 55 photos and a song to go with it. The highest export resolution there is is 640*480 and it comes out very blurry (especially when you try to enlarge it to full screen).
When i decided to try iDVD i realized it only exports to a dvd format and not to any kind of media that i can upload to you tube.
I don't think iMovie has a better option either.
All I'm looking for is to create a high resolution slideshow from my photos to share on youtube.
Does anyone have any suggestions....? I will be very grateful.

The following approach of creating a QT movie slideshow will give you the option of specifying a higher resolution in its width and height settings. Here's an example of a fast loading, looping embedded slideshow (not mine):
    http://www.heese-cadieux.com
    ...and done like this:
iPhoto > select photos > File > Export... > QuickTime tab ...set width and height, etc.
Then iWeb > Media button > Movies tab ...drag in your movie created above by iPhoto.
Then iWeb > Inspector > QuickTime tab ...settings.
Note: The above generates a QT slideshow of small file size and thus appears quickly in a web browser. But the transitions are limited to a simple "fade in and fade out" — no Ken Burns effect, etc.

  • I want to create a dvd photo slideshow and soundtrack

that can be played on any dvd player...
Can I use the Panther version of i-dvd for this?
I've viewed the i-dvd tutorial, but is there a more in-depth training? I don't know how to edit the music together!
    Thanks.

It can be done yes - my wife has had loads of fun
with this. Recommended though - do not upgrade to
Quicktime 7.1 yet if you plan to use animated menus
(many of the default themes use these) with .mp3
    music.
My wife uses GarageBand to essentially cut and paste
the tracks together to get one long music track and
then adds that to the music portion of the slide
show. That way the music doesn't just start
    repeating itself after awhile.
I believe you have at least two options for photo
slide shows. One is to use iPhoto and create an
album and then slideshow, and choose Share->iDVD
which will import it using whatever effects you've
    added.
The second is either iMovie or iDVD direct (can't
recall, and I'm at work) - just add the photos,
specifiy the transitions, and what music to play.
Very cool, although I ended up choosing music that
was very somber and it almost looked like a tribute
to my fallen family. My wife has since added
    more upbeat music. Good luck!
Wow, thanks alot! The part about GarageBand was really helpful. Should i get iLife?
Also, were you able to view your finished dvd on any dvd player? i've heard there are compatability problems. i have to send the finished product to a third party for screening.

  • Converting Movies to Apple TV Format

I am a new ATV owner with many home movies in AVI format on my Windows Vista PC. I have converted them to MPEG4 using Pinnacle Studio 12 and then I copy them into the iTunes Movie library. From there I need to use the "Create Apple TV Version" function. It starts and gets about 3/4 of the way through the movie and fails with the message "Error occurred while converting the file - there is not enough memory available." This is surprising as my PC has 4GB of RAM and my computer hard drive has over 100GB free (if it's looking for paging space) and my 160 GB ATV is only 1/2 full (but this should be irrelevant as it's not even synching yet). I called the Apple tech line and they could not help me and suggested I post here. Would appreciate any ideas from more experienced users. Thanks in advance.

Forget using the "Create Apple TV Version" in iTunes. I've had great success with MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com). It will convert to aTV format directly from AVI (and many other formats). Select "Export to MPEG-4" under "File", then iTunes in the dialogue box, then Apple TV (H.264). My Apple TV settings are "Limit Data Rate = 5Mbs, B-frames checked, Quality = 100%. It's never failed, will run in batch mode and great results. It will convert almost real-time on my wife's MacBook.

  • Anyone been able to create a Keynote presentation to loop as a movie on Apple TV (First Generation)?

I have prepared a Keynote presentation which I would like to loop on my Apple TV.  I was unable to set this up with the Apple TV 2 since it just streams, but with my original Apple TV, I can save the movie on the built in hard drive and presumably set it up to loop.  I had to export the Keynote presentation to iMovie to rotate the video to match the display I am using, but have tried several options to force a loop as a Quicktime movie and again importing the movie into Keynote after I rotated in iMovie and still will not loop.  I am trying to use this as a digital display in my business.  Any suggestions are welcome as previous posts and discussions have not worked.

I'm not really sure whether looping videos still work on the Apple TV, they have done and then they haven't and then they have and I don't really know what the current position is.
You can add looping to a video in any application that supports it, QT Pro for example.
How can you add looping to a video in an application that supports it such as QT Pro? The only documentation that I've read states what I previously wrote, and that doesn't seem to work.

  • How to create a photo slideshow in imovie 11

describe how to create a 200 photo slideshow from the start using imovie 11 with titles, transitions and music and then burn it to a dvd

iMovie is to edit movies; creating a slideshow is easier in iPhoto. When finished, you can then move it to iMovie or iDVD to create a cool menu/theme and burn it.
Here is a link to Apple support - I searched for "how to create a slideshow in iPhoto":

A much better alternative would be Photo to Movie (not free) - it does everything you want:

  • Creating photo slideshow on iPad 2

    Hi all,
Brand new iPad user here and was wondering if the iPad 2 has the capability of creating your own photo slideshows?
Is there an app where I can do this? i.e. arrange photos, add transitions/effects, music, titles etc?
    Many thanks

Yes, I already know that I can tap to get full screen view, but that is far less convenient. I want to be able to see a larger thumbnail so that I can easily select several at once to either move or delete. Thanks any way!

  • Move movies from apple tv to external hard drive

I recently had a hard drive fail containing a bunch of home movies and shorts I created with my friends. Luckily I converted them for apple tv through iTunes but was wondering if there is any way to take them from apple tv and put them back on iTunes?

purchased stuff (even if the price is $0) yes you can transfer it back to iTunes onces, rented stuff yes you can tranfer it back and forth (can only exist in on location at a time) ... but i haven't seen a way to get your personal stuff back off of the appleTV..
even so, once the stuff gets transferred to iTunes it gets treated like all the other stuff and you can't take it off the appleTV on demand...
you have managed to sync say a song or a movie from computer to the appleTV... delete it off of you hard drive and and get it off your appleTV? that's what the OP wants to do... if so, how did you do it? as far as i know you can't unless you take out the appleTV hard drive, mount it and take the stuff off... or ssh to your appleTV.

I am trying to make a presentation in windows with photos/videos/narrative slides and show it on apple tv and also make a dvd. Very frustruated after spending a lot of time on this!!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Allen

I just want to know how to do this so it works.
The most common methods to create a podcast are using QT 7 Pro or the GarageBand application. Your sample files look as though they may have been created using a QT 7 Pro (or similar app algorithm) by opening your JPEG in a player and then attaching the music to the to the end of image frame. The proper way to do this is to create a QT player with the JPEG image in it and then copy the content from the image player to the opened audio player using the "Add to Selection & Scale" Edit option to paste the image across all frames of the audio track.
Here is an example of what I mean: Blow Me Away_modified.mov
In this case I extracted both the audio and JPEG tracks and then re-sampled the audio track to get rid of the added empty audio frame and then added an externally re-scaled 826x638 version of your 1651x1275 internally scaled 827x638 display to reduce the file size from 10 MBs to 6.7 MBs.

  • Windows-based photo slideshow software?

    Hi,
I currently use iMovie 06 on my iMac to create photo slideshows/montages but would also like to create similar videos using my laptop (Dell w/ Windows XP). I apologize posting this on a Mac forum but could fellow board members provide me with some names of Windows-based software that is similar in nature and quality as iPhoto/iMovie to create these types of videos (and, if possible, one that does not require a huge learning curve)? I just recently came across "Memories on TV" and "muveeNOW" posted below, respectively.

Any further input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated... thank you!

I personally prefer using imovie because I am an imovie-holic!
It really just boils down to which application you are more familiar with. both do a great job, IMHO. Some say that the quality of the photo is better with iphoto, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder-I don't see much (if any) difference.
