Creating art in Flash 8 painfully slow

Question

Using Flash 8 on my new Mac Pro with 9G of memory and a fast
hard drive...
Creating art to animate is painfully slow for some reason.
There is an annoying lag or pause - after every keystroke or
individual brushstroke I have to wait a second or two for the
program to catch up before beginning the next action. Choosing edit
- undo leads to a 2-3 second pause.
The art is pretty simple - vector graphics created right in
the program, using one or two small bitmap JPGs for reference.
I'm not even animating it yet. Help!
Have already tried reducing the number of 'undo's' to 20.

OK folks, thanks for the fix, but I just have to say, this is
crap. what the hell is adobe doing? did they not know it was
coming? wake up one day, open the paper, and say "oh god, they have
ANOTHER windows now. Oh well, leave it alone its probably a fad."
This is not just a flash issue, although that in itself is crap.
Try installing the acrobat reader? doesnt work. Unfortunately the
only fix i expect out of them is to make it automatically setup in
xpsp2 mode with disabled desktop composition, ie no fix. I really
dont understand how one of the worlds largest software makers,
aruguably the most important one to a VERY large segment of the
econimy, gets caught with theyre pants down on such a large and
visable event as a new windows release.
Yes, you may say stop yer cryin, at least it works at all,
(flash does, acrobat doesnt, havent checked the rest) but the point
here is that any functionality at all in any of the programs is
completely by chance as adobe has done nothing as far as patches
for its software before release like it should. And that is
completely unacceptable.
