Creating audio test dvd

Ok, so how can I create a collection of samples to test out different audio settings (including bit rate) on DVD SP3? When I go to add another sample clip, I get the error message:
"one or more clips could not be added to stream. audio bit rate does not match existing audio clips."
is there any way to try out various audio settings on the same DVD?
thank you again
Bill

is there any way to try out various audio settings on the same DVD?
Yes. They just have to be in different audio streams - or levels, or "stereo track pairs"/ "surround groups" ie A1, A2, A3 et c. Treat it like selecting different languages. On playback, every time you press 'audio' on the remote it will change audio stream. It is also worth having an 'audio-select' menu.
So, put your other test versions of the sound on individual "tracks"underneath the vision track. Don't add them to the end if the bit-rate is different. (Note that they all have to have 48kHz sample rate.)

  • Gaps in Audio in DVD Slideshows created in DVD Studio Pro

Need to complete project but when creating slideshows in DVD SP with music set to each track & transitions between pictures, there is about a second gap in the audio just before the transition between pictures starts.
It works fine on my mac and also my DVD player at home, but not on my clients.
I am desparate for an answer as I am looking a bit stupid

    Kevin,
Have you tried converting the slideshow to a track and seeing if that helps? Sometimes the slideshow play funky on different players, and converting to a track seems to help with some of the quirks.

  • IDVD can't process audio - freezes DVD creation

I have created alot of DVDs before with iDVD, but now, during the DVD creation process, it freezes during the 'Processing Audio' stage and won't go onto the burn stage
Any ideas what is happening here?
    Thanks very much
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2 Gig Ram

t freezes during the 'Processing Audio' stage
1st just try waiting. iDVD can appear to hang (spinning beachball) at "audio encoding" but if you wait long enough everything finishes fine. With a MacBook Pro - I think 30 minutes should do it, but wait a few hours just to be sure.
If that still doesn't work make sure you have 16 bit audio, and look back here and search for "audio encoding hang."
Use "Save as Disk Image" to avoid making coasters, and to test your encoded DVD before buring with the Apple DVD player.

    Hi
Time needed can depend on several things.
    • less than 5 GB free space on Start-up (Mac OS) hard disk = Redicolous long times AND a DVD that most probably will not work OK
Medicine - I never go under 25GB free space
    • Use of strange file formats into iDVD - can force it to de-code first then re-encode - this can take long long times
    I use
Video - StreamingDV as from miniDV tape Cameras - or QuickTime Movies Converted to StreamingDV
    Audio - .aiff 16-bit 48 kHz - (no .mp3, .wma etc)
    • Use of old Mac - My G4 600MHz took about 24 hour per hour movie. my dG5 - about 2 hours per hour (I use Pro Quality encoding)
    • Pro Quality encoding - takes about x2 to process a movie

  • No Audio on DVD

    Hi ,
I have just aquired Adobe Premiere Elements8, and since I have never used this programme nor any other editing programme before, I am battling to get to grips with the basics in the shortest possible time.  I am able to get to the point of readiness to burn a DVD from a file on my hard drive. This file was captured using Windows DVD maker and a JVC DV900 video camera. However after going through the whole process the resultant DVD has no sound.  I need help as I have exhausted my meager knowledge and using too many DVDs.   Thank you heaps

    Welcome to the forum.
I could not find specs. on this camera, so you will need to help us a bit with the specifications of the resultant footage.
Probably the easiest, especially since the footage was captured from another program, would be to download the free utility, G-Spot, and run one of the files through that. It will tell you the full specifications. To save you a lot of typing, just do a screen-cap of the G-Spot screen, with the file loaded in.
Most JVC cameras capture in a proprietary format, MOD for SD footage, and TOD for HD footage. These can cause problems with PrE, though usually with Import. Still knowing the full specs. of the captured files will go a long way to solving this mystery.
    Now, a few questions:
1.) can you hear the audio, when you play the Timeline in PrE.?
2.) have you added any audio, say MP3 soundtracks?
3.) what brand of blank media have you been using?
A note: Neale's suggestion of Burn to Folder, as a test, is a good one, as that will take the blank media out of the equation.
4.) with your test DVD, have you tried playing it on both a computer and on a set-top DVD player? What is the result of both tests?
Good luck, and we look forward to hearing the answers to those questions

  • No audio on dvd burned with idvd6

Relevant software: Mac OS 10.4.11, iMovie 6.0.3, iDvd 6.0.3
Problem: No audio on dvd burned with iDvd
What happened: Created movie in iMovie (audio and video fine). Shared to iDvd (audio and video fine on playback). Burned Dvd. No audio on dvd but video is fine.
    What I did:
    1. Saved as disc file. Opened with VLC and DVD Player. No audio, video fine.
    2. Deleted encoded assets in iDvd then 1 (above).
    3. Removed non-Apple extensions in Library/Quicktime. Then 2 and 1 (above).
I've read other discussions about this same issue and followed those recommendations as well as that in the article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303550.
Clearly I'm missing something. But, what is it? Anyone have any suggestions?

i too am having the same problems with iDVD 6.0.4. I just ended up wasting 5 hours of time burning these damned DVDs... what was really strange is that the first DVD I burned was a dual-layer, and I checked that one on a set-top DVD player and it worked fine. I then needed 5 more copies of the DVD, so I simply inserted a fresh dual-layer DVD into the drive at iDVD's prompt of 'Would you like to burn this disc again?'.
Assuming that they would all be fine since the first one was fine, I simply burned 5 more DVDs. Only now, checking them after I've wasted a godawful amount of time burning them, do I find that they're all f#$ked. Thanks apple.
Crap like this makes me steamed. My PC burning software doesn't have nearly the same simple, elegant interface as iDVD, but it also lacks this CATASRTOPHIC problem. I mean, dual layer DVDs are relatively pricey... so screw apple. i will be glad to go home to my PC after being forced to work with this junky, buggy software.

  • Downconverting a FCP edited project in HDV to create a SD dvd

    Hello,
I've just finished a Project that was shot on Z1 and was editied in HD1080i on FCP. I want to create a SD dvd on DVDSP 4.0.3. My workflow that i have tried is exporting a QT using the export command and the default settings of HDV1080i and that gives me a QT which is by 1920 X 1080. i then brought that into compressor 2 and used the apples setting of high qualtiy 90min 16:9 preset. I altered the .m2v preset so that the filed dominance was upper layer, i changed the "frame control" to be custom (in "resizing control" i selected "best" on "resize filter" i changed it to "top first" and finally i changed the "deinterlace" to "best".
i then imported the encoded project into a SD DVDSP project and burnt it. Is this the best way to get the highest quality of final DVD or am i just doing it in an unnecessarelly complicated way?
many thnaks in advance for any help with this.
    Fred

You say SD DVD, but do you mean anamorphic 16:9 on regular DVD-Video? There are way too many lines in 1080i for normal NTSC, and as you're deinterlacing anyway I think the field dominance issues don't apply.
Here's a quick test I did with some 1080i video, I just deinterlaced it and scaled it straight to 720x480. It's H264, so DV would look better, but it may give you an idea. I guess the result is 29.97P, if there is such a thing! After creating the 720x480 movie I then sized it to 854x480, which is the right size for SD 16:9. Here you go:
    http://staff.funnygarbage.com/colin/scaled.mov
One thing I've been curious to try is to take every third pixel from 1920x1080i, in both directions and laying it into a 640x480 frame. That should give a perfect 60i 640x480 video, with the picture information in the 640x360, 16:9 middle part (and which Compressor would happily compress to MPEG-2). I know that people argue to have anamorphic so that more quality is in the picture when it's stretched to fill a widescreen TV, but as you'll notice in my short clip some vertical edges gain artifacts from being squished horizontally.

  • Recording in HD & creating an SD DVD with iDVD 05

I have been tearing my hair out over this... I have imported HD content from my camcorder into iMovie HD 05 & that has been fine. I know that I cannot create HD DVDs currently, but I want to record in HD & perhaps use this footage in the future. Anyway, when it comes to creating the DVD, I get through to the 'process movie' part or the 'burn' part & it either tells me that the disk has errors or, before it is even burned, that there have been multiplexing errors. (I dont know what this means, but I'm sure there are plenty of you reading this who do)
    So far I have tried:
Just creating the dvd from the original iMovie file (in HD).
Creating various quick time exports (of different sizes)and then importing them into iDVD. None of this has worked. Is it even possible to shoot in HD & then create an SD DVD? I hope so or my wife is going to kill me for insisting on that HD camcorder!
Its only a short film (approx 20 mins) & there is loads of space on both the external hard-drive I am working from & the internal hard-drive.
Can anyone out there help me?

    Welcome to the forums.
Apple says that iMovie can work with high definition video, but that the video is converted in iDVD:
    "High Definition and Widescreen Video
iDVD 5 now imports high definition video (HDV) and 16:9 widescreen formats from iMovie HD. iDVD 5 converts these formats to a standard definition DVD format that allows you to create the coolest-looking DVDs, while retaining the highest quality video."
So, iDVD is doing a lot of work during the video conversion. Here are some guidelines for reducing errors during this process:
Lots of memory helps; and you'll need 10-15 gigs of free space on your main hard drive for scratch space.
Buy good quality disks - I've seen recommendations for Maxell, Sony, Verbatim, TDK and a few others based on testing. I primarily use the first two and usually don't have trouble.
    Give yourself lots of time.
Turn off your screen savers and energy savers; don't let your hard drive go to sleep.
Get your computer healthy and ready for some heavy lifting. (video work could be the hardest job your computer can do) MacJanitor followed by Apple's DiskUtility's Repair Permissions is my routine.
Most of the time iDVD is working, it is encoding (compressing) your video to fit on the DVD. Create an image file (Save As Disk Image) and use Toast or Disk Utility to burn it to disk. Burn slow (1 or 2x).
I import into iDVD rather than export from iMovie (fewer errors).
    No other apps open.

  • Making a Startup Manager bootable Hardware Test DVD?

Even with my own instructions here*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/bootcd.html
I have not been able to make a Startup Manager bootable hardware test DVD backup
of my existing MacBook Pro installation DVD. Is anyone familiar with making such a copy strictly for backup purposes?
    - * Links to my pages may give me compensation.

I'm close to accepting this can't be done. Just thought I'd quote from Disk Utility in Tiger before I close this issue...
    ------------------------ start ---------------------------
"You can create CD or DVD that you can use as a startup disk, by creating a disk image of a disk or volume that can start up your computer, and then copying that image to a CD or DVD.
Select the disk to copy it in the list of disks and volumes.
Choose File > New > "Disk Image from (name of volume)."
Type a name for the disk image
Choose "DVD/CD master" from the Image Format pop-up menu.
    Click Save.
When creating the disk image finishes, eject the original CD or DVD.
Select the disk image in the list and choose Images > Burn.
When the Burn Disc dialog appears, insert a blank CD or DVD, and click Burn."
    ------------------------ end ---------------------------

    What is Pax?
Formally known as Youpax, Pax was founded by Robert McClelland 5 years ago, who is continuing to provide an alternati've tweaked driver to the Official driver released by Creative.
Why should I install this Pax alternati've?
Pax is aimed at improving sound quality and to give a more deeper bass sound, while retaining the clarity of the overall output audio. Most users continue to use Pax drivers once moving over and never look back!

.Re: PAX PCI XFI PAX Audio Suite DVD 200 V2.00WOkay - I think I have found a bug (at least for me it is). I use 2 outputs, my SPDIF out for my Reciever, I use that for music. Also I use my Speakers for my Headphones, when I am gaming, or using Skype. I like(d) the fact that I could listen to music on my stereo, and at the same time use my headphones just to hear people talk on Skype. With this driver, the sound will play on SPDIF - and Speakers at the same time, when Speakers is selected as output. When I select SPDIF as output, the driver will tell me that there is a problem with my sound card (Windows audio test gives "This device is beeing used by another application...")
Any chance this can be fixed? (I am quite capable of driver management, so I can install a driver manually through Device Manager if you have one just for testing.)
    Thanks

Very new to this.  I may be way off, but Im trying to create a test for some students to do in class.  Is it possible to create fields that turn green when right and red when wrong?  Also can you have a field that accumulates the right answers to give a score?

Sure you can, with a bit of JavaScript. What sort of fields will you be using and what part of the field do you want to be green or red?

    Hi,
I have a Canon HF10 which I have bought in the US, so it is a NTSC camera. I am living in Europe, so I would like to create a PAL dvd from the footage which I have recorded.
The footage have been shot using 1080/24p and I have imported it into iMovie. Do I need to do something extra or can I just export it and burn an dvd from iDVD?

24p on consumer devices is mostly marketing blabla..
in Europe, a 25p more is more interesting..
you have a NTSC device. full stop.
in iDVD, set prefs to 25fps (=PAL), relaunch iDVD, import iM project..
so, you record in 24p, got 30i on tape, anc convert again in 25i (=PAL) ... happy landing..

  • Creating a test database from backups of the production

    Hello Experts,
I am a newbie with very much new in Oracle. I have been provided with the inc0 backup(which comprises even the controlfile backup) of the production database (PROD) taken through RMAN and asked to create a new test database (TEST) using the backup. Can anyone please provide me the steps on how to restore it and create the new database ?
    Database version 10.2.0.4
I am aware of duplicate database concept using RMAN, but I have been asked to not to connect to the target (PROD) database while duplicating. So, I need to create the test database by using the backup of prod database without connecting to PROD database. Please guide me.

    Refer
    http://arjudba.blogspot.in/2008/05/restore-and-recover-database-to-new.html
RMAN restore database from another backup of different database name
When you are restoring using the backup of the production database, the db_name would be same on the auxiliary database. Once you restore and recover the database in your test server, you can change the db_name from prod to test by recreating the controlfile

I have looked on the web and in the help but am none the wiser due to lack of an explanation of the options
Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled),...,MS-DOS (FAT)
Partitions:Single partition - Apple Partition Map,...,Single Partition CD/DVD with ISO data
If you cannot point me in the direction of some decent documentation, please just tell me which options I need to select to create an ISO Data DVD
    Thanks

    Try this link.
Basically, you can drag a folder into the list on the left. Then, with the folder selected, click New Disk Image from the toolbar at the top (not sure of the exact wording, but it's something along those lines). Make sure to select ISO from the pop-up menu.
Also try this article to convert a DMG to ISO.
