Creating Audiobooks with Chapter Divisions from MP3 files.

I can create a plain old audiobook file from mp3's using this program...
http://www.freeipodsoftware.com/
I have several unabridged books that have one 15-20 min mp3 file per chapter. I have heard that i want to keep audiobook file sizes below 320MB for stability reasons, so i've been breaking up the audiobooks to have 8-15 chapters per file, which yields about 5 audiobook files per book. My problem is that sometimes i want to skip a whole chapter. The program i listed above doesn't have the capability to insert chapter bookmarks/divisions.
Can someone please provide instructions or a link that shows how to take mp3 files that have 1 chapter per file, and turn them into audiobook files that have the appropriate file size for stability/quality and chapter divisions/bookmarks that i can skip to within each file?

That is used to Import from CD and also works when converting songs in iTunes.
You can convert directly when adding songs to iTunes.
If you look under the Advanced menu, there is an option to Create AAC {or whatever is set in Import settings}. This is used (as mentioned above) when converting songs in iTunes.
If you hold {Option on a Mac, not sure what it is on Windows - maybe alt}, you can select it and then select a file/folder on the HD.
This will import the songs into the library and convert them directly to the selected format. This is instead of adding the files, then converting them then deleting the original file.
Since each mp3 is a chapter, can iTunes combine multiple files/chapters into a single larger file?
No. As I noted above, I do not know of any Windows programs to do this. There are a few available for Mac.

  • Create an audiobook from MP3 files?

    Hi all,
    I've just bought a couple of Audiobooks from Buzzymedia. These come on a CD as multiple MP3 files.
    Is there any way to turn these into one or two audiobooks rather than loads of mp3 files that I have to sync and make sure are played in the right order ?

    Thanks, but that's not going to solve this for me I'm afraid.
    The CD's I've got just contain MP3s, so there's no way to rip them afresh. As for just joining the tracks, the appendix only deals with doing this with WAV files, and the only software it mentions is for Windows, which I don't have access to

  • Scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3s files

    I'm having really horrible scratchy, distorted, garbled sound from MP3 files. AAC encoded files play extremely clearly on iTunes 10.5

    After reviewing all comments, it appears that this issue is squarely with the 10.5 upgrade that Apple did on I tunes. I have done all the uninstall and re-install that you can do.  Songs play fine on some, terrible on others, but yet they all will play on Windows Media Player. I can't believe it is the chipset for those that AMD processors, because everything was fine on the 10.4.  So,  Apple please fix this or offer us a way to uninstall from the 10.5 to the 10.4 where everything should be okay.   Awaiting your reply with thousands of others!

    Hi Rich,
    The combine files feature isn't available when you're using Reader for iOS. However, you can log on to the web interface at Adobe Acrobat.com using your Adobe ID and credentials, and use the Combine Files feature there.
    Please let us know if you need further assistance.

  • How do I create custom ringtones from mp3 files in itunes 11?

    I've upgraded to the iPhone 5 from Blackberry, and I have several custom mp3 ringtones I would like to assign... and can't.  How do I do this in iTunes 11?

    You would have sorted it out by now.
    Anyway,
    1. Go to EDIT =>REFFERENCE
    2. Under General, tick TONES, then you will be able to see TONES folder...
    To create ring tone from mp3.
    1. Make sure your mp3 file playback duration is about 30 sec or less.
    2. Add it to your library as you do with music.
    3. Under MUSIC folder, select SONGS
    4. Find the mp3 file you want for ringtone, right click it and find CREATE AAC VERSION
    5. OPEN window explorer, browse to MY DOCUMENTS/MY MUSICS (XP) or Library/my music (Win 7), there should be iTunes folder in there, find the mp3 file... and change the file extension from [.m4a] into [.m4r]
    6. Back to iTunes, add [filename.m4r]
    Now you should have rinetone under TONES folder in  your iTunes.

  • Prob with iTunes playing downloaded .mp3 file

    Hi,
    when I download a single 64Kbps MP3 file (song) from archive.org/audio, it will save to the desktop and look something like this: dtb2005-03-04d1t03_64kb.mp3 Then I try "add to library" in iTunes (5) and the song name appears, but it will be only a couple of KB and play for a split-second - that's all ... Any help, anyone ??
    Thanks very much!
    peace.
    p.s. song will play on Safari page after download, but not after saving.

    thanks Mike for the response ... I don't know what you mean by "find the cached file in Safari". I did search for anything of that filename (and Spotlight just found those tiny files) - And I have now updated to iTunes 6.0.1. ... and the exact same thing happens. I just get a 1.2KB tiny file in iTunes that goes "blip" and it's over.
    I've noticed that the complete song in the Safari window has progress bar with volume and play at left, then the progress bar, then at the right there is a "down arrow" pull-down menu that has Quicktime options: "About Quicktime Plug-in", "Save as Source..." , "Save as Quicktime Movie...", "Plug-in Settings..." and "Connection Speed..." .
    I tried the "Save as Source" - nothing happened. Same with "Save as QT movie".
    The "Plug-in Settings..." takes me to some options, many of which are over my head ---- however, there is an option to Register or Buy QT Pro ... could this be what's necessary?
    Under "Connection Speed" are also many options (don't understand most of them) but I did change to the slowest speed (since I have dial-up) ... and maybe I'll try to re-download something and see if there's a difference.
    I appreciate your help - odd thing is, it used to work with single songs and it has recently worked with whole shows (came in Zip file or .flac) and those worked fine ....... but I only had a couple days' opportunity to use a high-speed connection.
    Thanks again !
    peace,
    Rob

  • Create Smart Object /Frame Layer from open file in PSE8?

    I'm loving the trial version of PSE 8.  Several features that I don't want to live without!
    One thing that I find more difficult is creating a Smart Object or a Frame Layer (did those get replaced?) from an open file.  Because I digital scrapbook in different aspect ratios (12x12 for print and 15x9 for my photo frame) I want to maintain independent resolution of my pictures so I can change the crop, size etc.  My regular process (pse6) is to open a bunch of pictures and elements (papers, embellishments, etc), adjust the pictures as I desire (usually Smart Fix, plus a little midtone contrast), drop the elements into a blank file or template from the layers palette so they will not be frame layers, but drop the photos in from the Open Files bin as Frame Layers.  Then I simply resize the frame itself to match what I want on the page, and adjust the picture inside the frame.
    With PSE 8 I found I can drop a file from "Show Files from Organizer" and they will become Smart Objects (File: Place works too).  However, they have to be saved first, and I often don't save all my changes.   I would like to be able to create a Smart object or Frame Layer from an open file.
    Also, is there any way to change the size/zoo of the picture within a Smart Object?    Or crop it?  If not, does this really mean I have to crop my file, save it, and then add it as a Smart Object?  Ugh.  (Or create a rectangle for each SO and group them to form a clipping mask, I suppose. Either is a pain).
    Any recommendations for a better workflow that maintains independence?
    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Thank you!  This is very timely as I've been playing around with digital scrapbooking a lot more.  I've been having luck with using a grouped layer to "crop" the photo.  This way I can actually crop out what I know I'll never use, but use the layer mask to keep some edges that I might want around.
    Do you have any opinion on whether it's better to use a smart object or not?  I'll try both, I guess, and see what it does to my file size.

  • How to Copy Chapter Markers from one file to another

    Hi all,
    I am a relatively new GB user, so forgive the hopefully easy question. I want to combine four GarageBand files into one, in order. So right now i have part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.
    I figured out how to copy and paste the actual recordings in sequence (selected them all, copy and paste, worked great.) But I also have chapter markers that I want to copy and paste. I have the spacing worked out PERFECTLY and don't want to re-create them all. I know that I can select all the markers in a file, but they don't seem to want to paste. Instead, the headings from the file that were already there seem to repeat (most likely because of the time headings...)
    Is there an easy way to do this?
    - Many thanks,
    Michael

    Hmm. This is a stumper.
    I don't think it's possible in GB, obviously.
    The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to (from GB) export each project as it's own podcast quicktime movie, then use another app to stitch these movies together? I would think QuickTime Player Pro would do this.
    I tried looking for the chapter markers within the quicktime movie file, hoping you could copy and paste just those, but I didn't find any access to them.

  • Extract Metadata from Mp3 file

    Can anybody help me figure out how to read the metadata of an
    mp3 file? I can't find anything anywhere on how to do it. I am
    assuming it can easily be done by utilizing a Java Object but my
    java skills are very novice and I am struggling with trying to
    understand how to use the API in the first place....from what I can
    see there doesn't seem to be one that exists...I did find this
    class "javax.imageio.metadata.IIOMetadata"...not that I could make
    that work either. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Search for "CFXID3" in ColdFusion Exchange.
    Haven't tested it, though, and yes, I would be searching for
    mp3 Java libraries too, but if you're unfamiliar with Java, give
    that a try.

      udp 16001 - 16009
    nam#
    How to do it by CLI?

    Hi Alexey,
    Sure, the function you're looking for is in the ANALYSIS panel under the "CUrve Fitting" palette-- it's called "Linear Mapping".  You will need to create the desired X channel prior to calling this function, though, so you will probably need to use the ANALYIS function "Generate Numeric Channel" in the "Channel Functions" palette.

  • Initialize a global with a global from another file

    hi,
    I know that initialization order for global variables across compilation units is not defined, but if I have
    file1.cpp
      int x0 = 33, x1 = 55;
      extern int y0, y1;
      static int a[] = { y0, y1 };
      void print_a( void ) { printf( "\na[0] = %d\na[1] = %d", a[0], a[1] ); }
      extern void print_b( void );
      main()
        print_a();
        print_b();
    and file2.cpp
      int y0 = 77, y1 = 99;
      extern int x0, x1;
      static int b[] = { x0, x1 };
      void print_b( void ) { printf( "\nb[0] = %d\nb[1] = %d", b[0], b[1] ); }
    I notice that values are displayed correctly and consequently, initialized in the order I need. So what's the secret, coincidence, am I lucky? Does it make any difference if file2.cpp is part of a static library?
    Thanks

    @ Igor Tandetnik: Yes, I chose an example with circular dependency just to show that it was not the situation that, by luck, the "other" file was was initialized first. Yes, I would like a solution for such circular dependency, but I hope that I will
    find, at least, a solution for the case when such circular dependency does not exist. What I want to achieve? As the title says, I want a solution to be able to initialize globals with globals from another file, a solution as general and fault proof and convenient
    as possible.
    @ Wyck: I thought about something like that, problem is that in case of large arrays there is a lot to type. Another solution (it saves a little typing) I saw was something like
    // common_header.h
    #define LIST_A  y0, y1
    #define LIST_B  x0, x1
    // file1.cpp
    #include "common_header.h"
    Number x0(33), x1(55);
    static Number a[] = { LIST_A };  // just to give correct size
    // file2.cpp
    #include "common_header.h"
    Number y0(77), y1(99);
    static Number b[] = { LIST_B }; // just to give correct size
    // init.cpp
    extern Number LIST_A, LIST_B;
    void init()
    {  Number a_[] = { LIST_A };   Number b_[] = { LIST_B }; // stack usage
       for( int i = 0; i <_countof( a_ ); i++ )  a[ i ] = a_[ i ];
       for( int i = 0; i <_countof( b_ ); i++ )  b[ i ] = b_[ i ];
    This still has the problem of using much stack in case of large arrays and if array members are more complex structures (might also contain string literals), there is a bit more difficult.
    Bellow is a solution I came up with using macros but which I don't really like because is a bit cumbersome. I'm looking for something better/more elegant/safer or simply I want to see what other solutions people see here.
    // file1.cpp -------------------------------------------
    #define MEMBER_LIST( Usage ) \
    Usage( x1 ) \
    Usage( x2 )
    #define IMPORT( ext_member ) extern Number ext_member;
    #define COUNT( member ) 1 +
    #define LOAD( member_val ) a[ i++ ] = member_val;
    Number y1 = 77, y2 = 99;
    MEMBER_LIST( IMPORT )
    static Number a[ MEMBER_LIST( COUNT ) 0 ];
    static void InitGlobals_a( void ) { uint8 i = 0; MEMBER_LIST( LOAD ) }
    extern void InitGlobals_b( void );
    int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[])
    { InitGlobals_a();  InitGlobals_b();
    return 0;
    // file2.cpp -------------------------------------------
    #define MEMBER_LIST( Usage ) \
    Usage( y1 ) \
    Usage( y2 )
    #define IMPORT( ext_member ) extern Number ext_member;
    #define COUNT( member ) 1 +
    #define LOAD( member_val ) b[ i++ ] = member_val;
    Number x1 = 33, x2 = 55;
    MEMBER_LIST( IMPORT )
    static Number b[ MEMBER_LIST( COUNT ) 0 ];
    void InitGlobals_b( void ) { uint8 i = 0;  MEMBER_LIST( LOAD ) }
    Of course, something like
    #define MEMBER_LIST( Usage ) Usage( x1 ) Usage( x2 )
    could be further simplified using other macros so you can simple use
    #define MEMBER_LIST x1, x2
    but those additional macros will add up to the complexity.

  • Read information from mp3-file

    hi,
    I want to extract information regarding the album, artist, title, year and genre from a mp3-file.
    Does there exist an efficient solution for java to get to this information?

    Google will help here. In case you're missing the keywords to search for: Those informations are stored in the so-called ID3-Tags in the MP3 files.

  • Removing unwanted chapter markers from m2v files

    I inadvertantly left some unwanted chapter markers in FC sequences which I then exported as m2v files. Is there any way to remove the chapter markers from the m2v files so I don't have to re-render to m2v? I have lots of files!

    The original files were edited in FCP, then edited in Motion to add graphic overlays. From there, they were rendered as m2v using Compressor.
    The chapter markers are all visible in both FCP and Motion, but both of those options require re-rendering from the source file type back to m2v. This is a time consuming step that I'm hoping to avoid by, somehow, removing the chapter markers from the m2v file itself.
    I just need to know if there is any way to remove a chapter marker from an m2v file.

  • Problem with reading String from Xlsx file.

    Hi! I am trying to read string and numerical data from an xlsx file and trying to display its contents in a word file. I tried converting it to a .lvm file too. On using the "Read From Spreadsheet" tool, I get random characters as output. On using " Read From Measurement File" tool, I am getting an error saying "Error 100 occurred at Read From Measurement File->Untitled 1". What do I do? At the end I need to display the output, row by row, in a Microsoft Word file. I am so lost. Please Help.

    Hey, I tried doing that. It still just gave the values 0.00 in all the cells of the indicator array. Plus my file has string in it also. The data type in the spreadsheet was "general". Here in the tool, it is "Double". I changed the tool data type to string and spreadsheet to text but I only got gibbrish for my efforts.
    Thanks anyway!
