Creating automatic sequential lists in Pages for iOS

Maybe I'm crazy, but I am having difficulties with creating lists that work in Pages for iOS.
I am a teacher, and I have been trying to use my iPad in the classroom more.  I have been trying to make simple multiple-choice review quizzes using Pages.
It seems that when I create a new list, the numbering works fine. 1, 2, 3,... No problems. When I try to add an indent with A, B, C,...etc., the number I had completely reverts to the 1. It doesn't continue to keep the sequence. And I have no control over what number comes next like on the desktop version.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug?
Thanks.

Tables in Pages are actually spreadsheets and would appear to be your best choice.
To create a sequence of numbers input two, one after the other in adjacent cells, select both and pull down the small white dot in the bottom right corner of the selection. This will generate a continuing sequence. It is quite clever and works for all sorts of number patterns, days of the week, months, years etc.
The spreadsheet can calculate your VAT etc.
If you don't want them in a spreadsheet you can export them as text.

  • Bug: pressing backspace to delete a word in Pages for iOS automatically deletes space before word

    Hi guys,
When I delete a word in Pages for iOS 7 character-by-character, the deletion automatically includes the space before the word, even if I don't initiate a keypress for that space. This is sporadic in that it consistently occurs in some sections of text (usually at the end of lines) and not in others, in paragraphs with custom Styles and in paragraphs with default Styles alike.
If the bug happened consistently, I could probably by habit overcome this extra deletion. However, since it does not happen in every circumstance, it's unpredictable and as such very disruptive to my workflow.
This occurs in new documents with no formatting. I've also tried Resetting All Settings, restoring the app through the Settings menu, and deleting and re-downloading the app from the App Store. It occurs both when I use my Bluetooth wireless keyboard (Logitech) and when I use the iPad Mini's OS keyboard.
I really don't want to restore my entire iPad just to fix this problem, as I think it's an app-based bug (the problem does not happen at all in any other text app).
This Pages version is 1.7.2, and I'm using iOS 7.0.2 on an iPad Mini WiFi only.
Could anyone with a similar setup try this out? I can't be the only one...right?

I am experiencing this as well. In another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5374836) it appears someone contacted support about it and was told this is expected behavior.
For me, this will cause me to stop using Pages. It's extremely aggravating.

  • New Pages for iOS list of URGENT fixes...

    Hello all,
A long time fan of Apple, going back to 1980s when I was still a kid, I am - for the first time ever - REALLY dissapointed by a product Apple has allowed to be released to the general public: the New Pages for iOS.
Now, I don't mind the new look or the fact that the Mac counterpart has less functionnalities (actually, I think the alignment of these 2 apps is a great idea, and I'm sure the future will bring back some of the missing fonctions on the Mac...).
I am talking about usability of this app on the iPad (on the iPhone, it is simply BROKEN, I won't even waste time here) ! !
I have an iPad 3, running iOS 7.0.3 and Pages is barely usable on it !
I can't believe Apple let that one slip by...
If anyone at Apple is reading this, please tell me you guys/gals have a team working on:
    - Text selection: It varies from time to time, but moving these little blue handles or waiting for the "cut/copy/paste etc... menu to appear can take up to 10 seconds ! Not acceptable for an Apple-branded product...
    - Thumbnail previews: Very useful to see if changes made on a Mac were pushed to the iPad (on single page docs, which is what I mostly do). Also, the logic is all screwed up: sometimes, we have a preview, sometimes not... Just give us these previews back please !
    - Sharing: It used to be, you could just touch a doc untill it started wiggling, and then you could share it (email, iTunes, Other apps etc...). Now, the logic is more obscure: You have to choose to share first, THEN select the right doc (sometimes with a prompt, sometimes without...) and then decide what you want to do with it. At first, I was full of hope: I thought the new routine would allow me to select MULTIPLE docs to export... But NO ! Still ONE document at a time...
    - Pages on an iPhone (5s please !): Simply BROKEN. Or I didn't have the patience to wait for my touch inputs to translate into any sign of life on my screen...
Note: Worth mentionning: Congrats on the new extra row for the keyboard. That "+" sign has a lot to offer (page breaks and line breaks being my favorites, if only to create multi-lines keyboard shortcuts accros my device's system...)
    Cheers !
    Serge Ostrowsky

I hear you Mr Ostrowsky S. I hear you. I am frustrated to **** about exactly the same issues. Sending details to apple does not seem to work...
I use an iPad2, ios7, latest. So, the issues seem to be worse (slower response times, etc). The text selection issue is driving me nuts - unusable basically. I have tried all the suggested fixes suggested on other threads - no success. I am holding off from buying the iPad Air, as these issues make me wonder about the future of apple software. I would hate to go to an android or win8 tablet, but if I can't do simple word processing on a word processor, then?
I guess the only fix is if apple recognize that pages is fundamentally broken, and update it. I have lost four weeks productivity because of this. Not happy. Other wp apps in the app store don't cut it for me - I wish like **** that I had never upgraded to the new pages - the old version was a dream.
    Bugger.

  • Tables in Pages for iOS help

Hello all hope you're well. It's the first time i am using pages for iOS and i have searched the internet for some help but cannot find mt answer i was hoping you guys might know how to help me. When i create a table and it runs onto the next page, the writing in the main header title carries onto the next page but i do not want it too i just want the table to carry on. As you can see below i do not want the date in the grey bar to show up. Is there a way i can rectify this?
    Thank you
    Take care

Unfortunately your screen shot image does not display. Not 100% sure what your issue is, but I'll take a shot:
If you wish to prevent the header from appearing on any subsequent pages that the table spans, you will actually need to remove the header and use the first row for that purpose:
Tap on the table to select it
Tap the format tool icon (paint brush)
    Tap Headers
Tap the minus sign ( - ) beside Header Rows.
Reformat background color or other style characteristics for the first row if needed.

  • Pages for iOS on iPad - is it possible to add a dot leader tab?

    Hi All,
I appreciate any help and thank you in advance...and apologize if this is a poor question, but searching around hasn't yielded any help.
Is it possible in Pages for iOS to add a dot leader tab?
    I.e. Chapter One .......................................... 3.
I suspect not, but welcome any help.
    Thanks!

Correct that you cannot create this in ios Pages, but if you have a document or document template that was created on the Mac, then ios Pages will still have that function attached to that particular tab. Whacky huh.
With only a dozen or so features, I personally don't see that ios or icloud Pages is very useful, but I guess it is still in beta with more features to come.

  • How do I change the paragraph spacing before and after paragraphs in Pages for iOS

Being experienced in writing technical documents, I would like to know if there is any way I can setup paragraph styles with a specific spacing before and/or after paragraphs in Pages for iOS. You can do this in the normal Pages for Mac OS. Setting line spacing in Pages for iOS is not a very accurate way of formatting a document so that it looks good on a page.

    Hello James
I have realised this, but this is a long winded way of doing things and inconvenient if you want to create a new document using an iPad. To me paragraph spacing is one of the essentials when creating documents. It makes a document more readable and look more professional. For Apple to miss this out of iOS Pages is a huge error. Pages should be similar across all platforms where you can use Pages which will greatly overall compatibility, especially if you are exporting to other formats.

  • Pages for iOS merging documents

Using Pages for iOS, is it possible to merge two separate, one page documents into one, two page document? Simply copying and pasting isn't working out as the 2 pages have different background images and formats all together.  I am making a flyer and the front and back are very different.

    hi Kaylon,
You've posted in the comunity for Numbers (Mac).
On the Mac, open both documents. Pick one as the final.
In the other document, click on the page icon for the page you want to add to the final. Copy.
    Swith to the 'final' document,
Click in the space below 'page 1' in the Pages list to the left. Paste.
    Done.
    Regards,
    Barry
As the answer for Pages for iOS is likely similar, but differing in detail, I've requested this dicussion be transfered to the iWork for iOS community.

  • Creating a soft return in Pages for iPad

I would really like to create a space between numbered items in Pages but I can't figure out how to do it.  Does anyone know how to create a soft return in Pages for iPad.

I guess that we could ask that question about a few different things Apple related.
I'm glad that you got the hang of it.

  • How do I add video to a Pages for iOS document?

I thought that with the latest updates to Pages that there would be 1:1 parity between the MacOS X and iOS versions of  Pages.  However, I am unable to figure out how to add video to Pages in iOS as I can easily do in Pages for MacOS X (just drag & drop).  What is the secret to including video into a Pages for iOS document? Or is this just not possible?  I don't see how audio can be added either.  It seems to be Photos only from the + icon.

The video should be in your camera roll, tap the +, then the music note and choose your video.

  • How to change name of document in Pages for iOS?

I'm having problems with changing the name of documents in Pages for iOS.
Any answers? I dont want all my documents to be Blank, Blank 2, and so on!!

    Hi Horace
You should hopefully just need to tap on the name of the document when you open Pages.
When you open the app, you should see all of your documents displayed. Under each one is the name of the document. Tap on the name and that one document should zoom to the centre of the screen and you can edit the name. If the document was previously called "blank" then the name field will appear empty, allowing you to type in the name you want. If it already had a name, then that name will be displayed there.
Tapping on edit allows you to make copies of a document or delete things rather than renaming them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Spell checker in Pages for iOS - other than english

    Hello,
I'm trying to get spell checking in Pages for iOS working in another language besides english. My question is- is spell checker in Pages for iOS evailable in any other language besides english? Because it doesn't seem to be- once I change keyboard to another language (even matching system language), Pages stops underlying errors in that keyboard language.
    Thanks.

Spellcheck/autocorrect follows the keyboard (system language is irrelevant).  Please tell us what language exactly is not working for you.

  • Pages for iOS doesn't show the preview view of documents, a fix?

I don't know if anyone has the same problem, but since the update, my pages for iOS (even in iPhone or iPad), doesn't show the preview view of each document. I have to open a document, close it and then it appears the preview. But if I close the app, all the previews disappear again and it shows the icon of pages (the orange pencil), which is awful by the way.
So, anyone else has this problem? How can I fix it? It is not a big deal, I know, but I just don't like the way it looks like.
I re-install the app and it doesn't work.
    Thanks!

Same problem here. Some previews but majority are the icon diagram of the orange pen. It's the same on both my iPhone 5 and iPad 3. Hope they sort this ASAP

  • Pages for iOS converts movies to images on ePub export

It appears that Pages for iOS is able to use the Apple-supplied template for ePub export that was originally developed for Pages in the iWork '09 suite.  However, when I add video to a document and then export to ePub, Pages for iOS issues this message in the Export Details:
Some changes were made to your exported documnet.
    Movies were converted to images.
The movies play fine in Pages for iOS, they just don't get exported when ePub is chosen despite the fact that iBooks for iOS will handle video embedded in ePub perfectly well.
Since Pages for MacOS X exports to ePub without converting movies to images, this appears to be a major parity issue. Apple has gone to some lengths to reach parity between MacOS X, iOS and iCloud with respect to iWork and iLife app suites and has gotten considerable heat over those efforts, I have to wonder whether I've missed something in coming to this sad conclusion. Have I?

It sounds as if your caption is beneath the object to which it's referencing. If so, you can either do one of two things. The first thing (and doesn't require any XHTML knowledge) is to place the caption above the image (a bit unconventional in comparision to dead-tree printing). This will cause the e-reader to begin the page with the caption (the linked item) and thus contain the object of reference below, ensuring it's on the same page for viewing.
Another option, and a more elegant solution (but more technical), is to open the EPUB file with an app like BBEdit or TextMate. Both of these apps can open an EPUB file without having to unzip the file. With the file open, navigate to the file in which you want to make your edit (which will be located in the OEBPS folder). Run a Regex search for your caption title (regex \bcaption\b) and ensure you've found the correct location. Locate your <a id="caption" /> destination anchor. The code just above this anchor should be your image. Remove this code above the image with a p class, like so: <p class="caption"><a id="caption1" />&#160;</p>. This effectively forces the ereader to display the object of reference.
