Creating Avery Labels

I want to create mailing labels for my Christmas cards (as well as any other future correspondances) using Avery labels 5160. According to Appleworks Help Index this is possible, but I'm having problems finding a template to get started. AW Help mentions I need to go to LAYOUT first but I can't find it. It's obvious I'm doing something wrong. Can someone take me through a step-by-step instruction on how to do this? I appreciate any/all suggestions. Thank you!

Mailing labels are created using a Database document, which is where you'll find the Layout menu.
The first part of this reply will quickly get you a basic label. The full post will let you produce a better label, but it's a bit more complicated.
If you're starting from scratch, the quickest way to go is via Starting Points.
Launch AppleWorks, then go to the File Menu and choose Show Starting Points.
Click on the Assistants tab.
Click Address List, the first Assistant in the panel. Click through the assistant, accepting the default choices. This will produce a 'Personal Address List', which contains a layout for 5160 label stock.
That's the basic label. Here's the better one:
If you already have the names and addresses in a database document (or if you've created the Personal Address List DB, and aren't happy with the labels it produces), here's how to make your own.
The instructions assume you have the following fields in your DB:
First name
Last name
Address (contains the street address)
City
Province (or State) (contains the two letter symbol for the Province (or State).
Code (or ZIP) (contains the postal code (or ZIP code))
Open the database, show your standard data entry layout, and press shift-command-L to enter Layout mode.
Press shift-command-D to define new fields.
Define two new Calculation type fields, 'Full name' and 'City PR Code' (or 'City ST ZIP')
The formula for 'Full name' is:
'First Name'&" "&'Last Name'
For 'City ST ZIP':
UPPER('City'&" "&'State'&" "&'Zip')
AppleWorks automatically inserts new fields into the visible layout if there is room for them. You don't need them in your data entry layout, as they are calculated, rather than entered fields. After you click Done, you should, if you wish, delete the two new fields and their labels from the current layout before creating your Labels layout.
Now create the mailing label layout.
Go to the Layout menu and choose New Layout (Note: NOT "New Label Layout)
Choose Label, then use the pulldown menu to choose 5160 from th list of Avery numbers. Click OK.
In the dialogue, double click each of these three field names in the following order. (You'll find the first and last at the bottom of the list, the second near the top.)
Full name
Address
City ST ZIP
When the three fields names are listed in the Field order window, click OK.
Press shift-command-B to return to Browse mode. Go to the Window menu and check Page View to see the labels as they'll appear on the page.
Print a test sheet before running the actual label stock through the printer. If all of the data is being printed too high or too low on the labels, either move the fields in Layout mode, or (better) change the top and or left margin to relocate the data in relation to the top of the page.

Barry

I assume you mean to ask how to print in a format that will match Avery 5160 lables. You can do it with Tables or Text boxes. That's all there is to say without knowing what your content is and how it might change from label to label.
    Size:  2.625" x 1"
Labels per sheet: 30 (3 Across by 10 Down)
    Margins: Top 0.5" Bottom 0.5" Left 0.1875" Right 0.1875"

    Contacts prints to Avery labels.
Otherwise just open the appropriate Word template from Avery's website, in Pages.

How to create mail labels, Avery 5160, using Pages?

The application Contacts holds all your addresses and telephone, email etc details.
It has a comprehensive set of Avery labels in its print dialog.
You select the Contacts or groups of Contacts you want to print then in the Print dialog click on Show Details where you can choose Style : Mailing labels and choose which labels you want.

  • How can I can I change an Appleworks business card to match an Avery Label?

I used the earliest Apple II's, and I loved Appleworks, being a member of the Appleworks Users Club through the days of Appleworks 6, which I still use on my Macbook with OS 10.6.8.  I enjoy the ease of creating business cards that it allows.  I have forgotten how to change the format to different Avery labels.

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

  • What is easiest way to create file labels in Pages?

You can download the Avery File label template of your choosing here. Then import that template into Pages and go forth and create file labels.

  • Creating Mailing Labels with Merge in Pages

I am trying to create mailing labels and print to AVERY templates. I cannot find a way to do this, since I have not found any support in the AVERY templates for Pages. It seems to work if you try to merge the entire Address Book with the AVERY software templates, but I only want to merge with one group from the Address Book. Any advice?

Print directly from *Address Book,* select a Group then:
    +Menu > File > Print > Layout > Avery Standard > Select > Print+

  • How do I create address labels?

    Hi:
Feeling stupid here. New to Pages and love it except for a few things. One of which is I cannot find a template for labels. Word had templates for all sorts of Avery labels and they were easy to create. Certainly Apple didn't leave this out of this great software. But I cannot find it. All I see are something about Axis - which causes great flashbacks to high school math.
    Thanks for your help.

Here is what Address Book Help says about mailing labels:
    ===============
    "Printing mailing labels
You can print sheets of mailing labels from your address book.
In the Address Book window, select your address book or a group in the Group column, or select the specific names in the Name column that you want to print.
Only contacts that have street addresses will be printed.
    Choose File > Print.
Choose Mailing Labels from the Style pop-up menu.
Configure the other print options as you want, then click Print.
Click Layout and choose a type of label from the Page pop-up menus. If you choose Define Custom, you can specify how many labels to print on a page and set the page margins and the gutter space between labels.
Click Label and choose the type of address you want to use from the Addresses pop-up menu. Choose the order to print the labels using the "Print in" pop-up menu. You can add a small graphic to your mailing labels by clicking the image Set button. Change the font by clicking the font Set button.
If contacts in the group you selected have multiple addresses, you can choose which address to use for each contact. Click Cancel to close the Print dialog. Then choose Edit > Edit Distribution List and select the addresses you want to use.
You cannot print directly from network directories. To print address book information for contacts in network directories, drag the contacts to your personal address book."
    =============
I just checked it out and you can choose an Avery type and also you can insert one of your images. I only tried it with JPEG, but other formats may work.
    Good luck,
    Walt

  • Create a label template in Word Processing

I want to create several individual labels for labeling photograps on a wall.
I'd like to use some Avery gold labels I already have.
Is there any way to create a word processing document in a label format so that I can type different information on each label and then print it on Avery labels?
    Thanks

There may well be a Word Processing solution, but I think the DataBase model best suits your needs. What you're trying to do (if I understand correctly) is create a standard layout in which standard types of text — Title, Artist, Size, Technical Details, Price—appear in the same position and style on each label, though with different content each time. That makes each label a DB record, and each info category a DB field.
In the DB module, once you create your fields ( I'd guess they'd all be Text fields) you would then use the Layout mode to design and format the size and placement to fit your label size and number of label columns per sheet. Spacing's a tad tricky, but quite do-able (print some samples first).
The DB module has the advantage of allowing for a growing base of records and many layouts, such as a one-line listing with columns for the various fields' data, or one with a special format for data entry. It also allows for many other fields in the one database (Purchaser's Name and Address, Photographer's Phone number) that you wouldn't want to print on the labels. When it's time for next year's exhibition you select all the relevant records—using a field for "Year Shown" perhaps—and print a new batch of labels. Label size changes? Just tweak the prototype record in Layout mode.
If this sounds daunting, there are standard address label layouts among the AW templates that you could use to see how it all works and perhaps adapt, either by "fibbing" the DB, say by filling in a Title where it has a Street Address field, or by—daringly—replacing or renaming the template's fields to suit.
But If you're determined on the WP approach the best method I can think of is to repeatedly cut and paste into prototype label WP frames duplicated and set up in a Draw document to align with your label sheet. The DB does all that for you.

  • Avery Labels and HP 45000.

Cannot get printer to match the labels in Word.  Using Avery Labels and their software with Word 2010.  Anyone else having a problem?

    James,
You don't say what type of labels you want to print. It's pretty easy to set up a table in Pages to align text fields with labels, if you're just looking to type miscellaneous data, stuff that might not work well in AddressBook. There are no built-in templates for Pages to align with specific Avery products. Once you create one, save it as a template for the next use.

  • How do I find template for avery labels in iPages

I lost Word when I went to iPages.  Now I cannot find a way of finding a template to do mailing labels with Avery labels.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It is in the Print panel of Contacts. Pages v5 and derivate versions have no built-in Mail merge capability without AppleScript programming/integration skills.
Build a simple mailing list in Numbers or another spreadsheet application. Export to comma separated values (CSV) file.
In Contacts, create a new group (File > New Group), and with that new group selected, select File > Import and provide the name of the CSV file. Your new group is now populated with contact information. Clean up as needed. File > Print. You can click on the following image to enlarge.

  • Printing avery labels

I recently purchased avery labels 05160 (laser), when I print(on xerox, phaser 6120). they are out of alignment. Am using apple Works 6.2.9. and setting is on avery 5160. Can someone give advise please.

you might have inadvertently shifted the table for the labels off center. First test that the default label is fine bu creating a blank new 5160 and then putting some junk text in the labels and printing on normal paper.
Now line a label sheet and the test sheet up you should be able to tell if its aligned.

  • Avery Label template ?

I'm looking to create a blank sheet of Avery labels(Let's say Avery 8160 for now). I would like the user to use a PDF form instead of Microsoft Word. Is there any option available for this? Has a template already been created?
    Thanks...

It sounds like you haven't installed Pages '09 you have installed Pages 5 for Mavericks.
Pages 5 has over 90 other features removed and does a terrible job of opening older files:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=b14426a2c5af2 65f2213d98ee45f08d7&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Pages '08/'09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Export your Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx and trash/archive Pages 5.
Then rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .
    I hope this helps.
