Creating background for sub-titles?

I remember in FCP7 I could make a custom 'solid' clip, resize it small, make semi-opaque, position it behind the sub-title, then use some kind of edge-softening plug-in from the effects bin ... which would take away the sharp edges of the semi-opaque solid clip ... which I would then make just enough opaque to make the text stand out, but not enough so the background shadow clip was obvious.
I'm trying to figure out if there is a way in FCPX to blur and soften the edges of a Custom solid?

Thank you Tom,
I scanned through a couple of times ... must have been looking for 'feathering' ... tired eyes.
Very much appreciated,
Ben

  • I'm a beginner. Creating clips with sub-title captions from a large file.

My project is to create a video clip with subtitles that will help train ESL students to correctly hear native speakers. The idea is simple. The same clip repeats 3 times, first without subs, then with subs and finally without them. So, I have some full length movies, in various ripped formats, that I need to select short dialog sequences from, each of which is destined to become a separate file. Once I have the shorter files I will repeat the sequence three times in the file and embed captions in the middle copy. I may also add some footage into the file in various places to give instructions on the exercise.
I imported an avi file into Premiere but could not figure out how to select a portion of the original file and create a clip and save it as a new file. Also, while the file plays in sync in media player software, the audio was way out of sync in Premiere. I've searched for tutorials and watched quite a few but I haven't been able figure this out. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Yes, this is what is supposed to happen, unless you "tell"
the tabs differently. Take a read up on this page:

  • Creating Background for Lecture

    Thanks for your time guys!
I will be video and audio recording instructional videos/lectures to help coach people thru a process.
I need to know if its possible to use FCE to create the background (behind me, the lectern and any other fore-front equipment) using my digital business logo.
I am new to Mac and my FCE package is still in the sealed wrapper so IF it is possible to create a digital background how difficult is it?

    McJiggy1 wrote:
... How difficult would it be to use the iMovie background version of the green screen, the add the logo's?..
    an absolute no-brainer:
    • record your 'host' in front of any green background, a piece of card-bord, green cloth ..
this was my 'set' for a first test ... btw: a garden full of greens is below optimum ..
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    • in iM09's prefs, switch-ON the ADVANCED TOOLS
    • drag the background graphic into Project
    • drag green-screen recording onto clip
    • done ..
Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!CLICK TO ENLARGE
    in moving images: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=817Pjo6l2PQ
(a little prepped in FC/e, plus my son asked for creepy sounds.. whyever..)
on his cheeks you'll notice some flaws of the color-key.. not iM fault, but reflections of the green surrounding.. the next recordings are done on a parking-lot with my 'mobile green screen construction'..
    just to mention:
iMovie09 is MEANT for doing 'simple' production of podcasts, lectures, tutorials. therefor, tools as green-screen, pic-in-pic, narration audio, chapters, etc. are included as 'one click'-feature.
I'm a 'switcher' for quite a while, trying to teach me the more 'pro' tool FC/e, but to get things done, iM is still my favorite ..

  • Color background for titles

I'm using PrE10.  when i work on titles the background defaults to a black background.  How can I change it to white or some other color?

    27sirena del mar
The black background that you see for a title file is not the color black. The black represents transparency so that when you have the title on Video track 2 and your image on Video track 1, you see the title overlay on the image.
A few scenario for you to check out
    1. Create a color matte for Video 1 and directly above it place your title. For Color Matte, please see Project Media, New Item, Color Matte.
    2. Create a title in the Titler and while there go to the Title Menu/Image/Add Image. That will put the image on the top, hidding the text. So, right click the monitor, select Arrange, followed by Send Back.
Please review and then let us know if you have any further questions on this or need clarification on anything that I have written.
    Thank you.

  • Blue Background for Title Text

Seems like it would be simple, but I can't figure out how to change the basic black slug the text goes on for a title to a blue background instead of the black background.....Thanks in advance.

You can place a Color Matte, beneath your text. EFFECTS > VIDEO GENERATORS > MATTES > COLOR
You can change the color of the matte by selecting the Control Tab in the viewer.
There are many other options depending on what you are using to create your text.

  • Want to create an oval vignette in photoshop elements 10 with transparent background for printing w

I am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.
    Appreciate any guidance.

Try with the Elliptical marquee tool:
On the tool's option bar set feather 25-40 px (experiment)
Drag out the Ellipse to embrace the object
Go to Layer>new>layer via copy, or CTRL+J
Your selection should fade out as a vignette and be surrounded by transparency
Save this layer via File>save for web, select PNG-24, and tick "Transparency"

  • Delivery not created in background  for VL10 or VL10BATCH

    Hello,
My client is using ECC6.0.  When I schedule a job in background for VL10 or VL10BATCH, only the delivery due list appears.  No deliveries are created.  Also referred to OSS note '310022 - VL10: Schedule batch job/variant creation' and changed the fcode profile to '5001' for the user role being used.  Still no deliveries are created.  Require your advise.
    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi,
We also faced the similar problem so I would suggest you to put the program of respective transaction(for e.g VL10A/VL10B) in background and it will work fine.

I need a Gradient Background for my CategoryPlot Object and am having problems figuring out the best approach.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to approach this problem?
