Creating booklets in CS4 (not printing)

You could make a booklet out of CS2 through the "Print booklet" feature. It would create a second file that was booked correctly so you could proof any of the background graphics.
How can I do this in CS4???

Print Booklet was introduced with CS3 and remains unchanged in CS4. CS2 used a plugin called InBooklet SE which is no longer available because the vendor was purchased by Quark.
The major difference is that InBooklet allowed you to impose and create a new file, but it was very buggy and often caused problems. Print Booklet only allows you to impose and print, so if you want a screen proof you must print to PDF and open that.
An alternative is to use one of the imposition scripts that are available, but the one I use is not capable of dealing with cross-spine elements, and I suspect from your post that you have background images that span the spreads.

  • PDF created from AutoCAD will not print

    This one has me baffled.
I'm working with AutoCAD 2009 and Adobe Acrobat 8.  I printed 3 layouts from AutoCAD to Acrobat as a C-size sheet.  I usually merge them into one multi-page file using Acrobat.  All 3 .PDFs were created with no errors and can be viewed on the screen.
I went to print this 3 page file to an HP DesignJet 500.  The first 2 pages printed fine, but page 3 would not print.
So I went to the original individual file for the missing page, opened it in Acrobat - it also would not print to the HP 500.  BUT - it WOULD print to my HP 2800 on an A-size (letter) sheet.
All three pages came from the same AutoCAD file.  All 3 .PDFs were created using the same settings.  Individually, only the first 2 will print to the HP 500.
I tired recreating the third file with a different file name.  Looks fine on the screen, yet when I try to print it, it does not get to the printer driver.
Yes, I have re-booted my system.  No difference.  Rebooted again and recreated the document - no change.
I figure there has to be some quirky character or entity in my AutoCAD layout that is tripping up the printer driver for the HP 500.  This is my first encounter with this kind of problem.  And yes, I do have the latest HP 500 driver installed and have created and printed 100s of AutoCAD drawings in this manner.
BTW, I'm running WIndows XP Pro.

    Michael,
I have about 19GB of free space on drive C: - your tip about "print as image" did permit the file to print to the HP 500.  This DesignJet is not a PS or PCL printer.
I've never encountered this kind of problem before.  This particular AutoCAD layout has a fair amount (but not a lot) of text that would no doubt be converted to a raster image (as it is not a system font) when processed by Acrobat during .PDF creation.
My drive D: has much more free space - is there a way of directing the printer driver to store its output to that drive?
Thanks for the tip - at least I know what to do the next time I'm up against the clock trying to get the work out.

  • Print booklet in inDesign not printing correctly

I have been having issues with the print booklet feature of inDesign CS6. I am doing a half letter layout. the pages are laid out as the end user would see them. when I click on print booklet and set all of the print settings, everything is fine. the preview show the spreads correctly. example (the back cover and front cover are on one spread with the back being on the left). problem is, once I print, the back cover is replaced by a blank page and the back is then placed on spread 3. page 1 is then placed where the blank inside cover should be.   I mad a 12 page blank document and placed only page numbers on the pages and then printed booklet. the preview was correct and the printed output was also correct. as soon as I add any other elements to the pages, it no longer prints correctly.
this is extremely frustrating. I have wasted a day and a half trying to troubleshoot and get this to work. At this point I am going to lay out the pages the way I want them to print and then rearange them to view properly in PDF, either that or go back to using Quark. anybody know what may be causing this.

Wow, never would have thought you would have that option twice. That seemed to do the trick! Thank you so much. I owe you one!

  • PDFs created in PSE9 won't print

PDF files that I've created in PSE9 will not print correctly when opened in adobe reader. I have tried creating the pdf using pdf995, cutepdf and pdfcreator, each time I get a blank sheet out of the printer. I have tried this on several different physical printers. The pdf appears correctly on screen in reader. I can acheive a physical print from a pdf if I use the 'save as' pdf option within elements however the file size is too large for regular use. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1 HP printers and MFDs are notoriously poor performers with OS X 10.6
2 for real help on this, I'd move this thread over to 'Print & Fax', where there are a lot of people with a lot of experience in dealing HP nonsense.
3 I used to have an HP MFD. I no longer do, because I got tired of putting up with HP nonsense.

  • Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer will not print for Lightroom 2.3 or Photoshop CS4

When I hit the print button on either Lightroom or Photoshop CS4 to print using the "front tray", the printer sends a message to lower the tray for the back tray.  The Canon tech rep stated that when I  hit the Print button on Lightroom or Photoshop there should be "drop down window" which allows me to choose the "front tray".  Until I do this, the printer assumes that I am still using the back tray.  My question - why doesn't my Lightroom or Photoshop programs display this "drop down window" when I press the "print" button??  Please!! Can anyone help me??

After so many attempts, I don't remember what the display was when I first requested for help.  I just trying everything that I
    could think of.
I don't think that I downloaded the right Driver the first time.  As a last resort, I downloaded the Driver again from Canon and to my surprise, another menu appeared.  It was different from the previous ones and rather confusing.  The Canon tech had described what I should bd looking for and so I proceeded ahead one drop menu after another and finally the right menu appeared giving me the choice between the automatic back tray and the front tray.  After I clicked on the front tray, everything worked fine.
Thanks, Was DYP, for taking time to attempt to help me.  It's my opinion that Canon's documentation was not complete and therefore created some confusion.

  • Why does "Print Booklet" not print all the files in book?

My new Indesign CS4 will not let me do what I was able to do easily with Pagemaker 6 and Indesign CS2.  When I go to “Print Booklet”, the program will not print the entire book, but only whatever file is check marked at the bottom of the WINDOW tab on the Menu Bar. I have tried with the files in the BOOK Menu selected and not selected. No difference. I have tried every way I can think of to add and link the files indicated in the Book Menu to the actual files. Each time the same. I have reinstalled the program. Still the same. I am using a Mac PowerBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11.  Your ideas and help will be greatly appreciated..........Richard

Sorry, Print Booklet simply isn't designed to be used with multiple files. You'll notice it isn't available in the Book Panel menu.
You could export the entire book to PDF, then place the PDF in a new document and use Print Booklet to print that.

  • PSD files will not print from Photoshop CS4 (previously posted in Acrobat printing and prepress)

My questions are: Does the PSD file have the printer information encoded?
Also why has this just started to show up? My wife has work successfully under the same conditions, files moved and printed on different printers, with no problems in the past.
I (we) have been struggling with a recent problem trying to print PSD files from Photoshop CS4. (Vista 32 bit, Epson 3880 networked) When trying to print certain, but not all, PSD files I get the message: "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." I have been in contact with Adobe support about the issue but with little in the way of positive results. I was referred to a kb link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/409/kb409119.html Tried all that to no avail. (The first suggestion is absurd to the point of making me wonder what process is used to construct the kbs. You cannot open the print menu when you get this message so....?)
Other solutions are not acceptable for the work my wife is doing, editing high quality photographs for an exhibition with test prints and so on. We are under intense time pressue with four shows coming up in a very short time. The final solution offered is that CS5 has solved all of this. Hum? interesting. No comment except new program, new problems so not a real solution for us.
In searching the web about this problem I have come across many other people with the same problem working from different platforms and even different Adobe products. I noticed that the MAC OS seemed to cause the same problem and that there was a problem with Reader and Acrobat. In every case the problem is never solved by Adobe or anyone else and users find some "workaround". I too have found what we hope is a workaround in our contiued travels on the blogosphere, on flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/wellington/discuss/72157621548183001/ as "...a nasty, nasty solution" but we skipped the flatten part and the GIMP part and resave the PSD under a different name.
Adobe does seem supportive but not that interested (CS4 right) but I would like to find a real solution and I think many people would benefit from it.
Anyway what I have found is that the PSD files that will not print have been printed on another printer at some time in the past. In my case the Printer was an Epson Artisan A50. The printer we are using now is the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. Even when trying to print wirelessly to the 3880 from the laptop (Was Vista, now Windows 7) that was used to edit and print with the A50, (USB connection) we saw the same error. So it seems that the printer information is somehow embedded in the PSD file (also mentioned in a Blog) and is keeping PS from seeing the printer because the same printer is not there.
Has anybody already found the fix?
I know this is a long post but I have been working on this problem and have heard all of the pat and frankly useless answers and workarounds. Can we find a solution and fix the problem?

Just a few examples, since you ask:

  • Purchase order created by "Procurement Document" is not printed automatical

    Hi all experts,
After and upgrade to 8.81 (from 2005A)  some funcionality was lost.
In Print Preferences it is set that the document Purchase Order shall be printed automatically when adding document.
This works if you add the document directly in Purchase module.
But, if you add the document via a Sales Order
    - on the Logistics tab, mark the field Procurement Document to create the PO -
the Purchase order is not printed.
Has anyone seen any changes regarding this functionality or is it a bug?
    Thank you!
    Kind regards,
    Susanna

    Hi all!

"After detailed investigation of the Business Impact and the Product Strategy we came to the decision that the correction of the system behaviour is not feasible in the currently supported versions of SAP Business One. Theerror has been recorded and is a candidate to be fixed in a future version.

  • Payment Run Not Printing Check. No Spool Created.

    Hi Gurus,
We did a payment run and it generated a spool at 1st and it was at "waiting status" which is strange because when we do this, it prints immediately.
So, then the spool disappeared and no checks was printed. We tried to reprint it and no spool was created and nothing came up.
We check the printer and no job was waiting. We checked the windows side, and no job was waiting as well.
We we go to SP01, the spool is not listed there.
There has been no significant changes in the system. We ran payment run we days ago and it worked fine.
    This is strange.
    Does anyone has a solution?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Go to FCHD and enter your Run Date and Run ID and delete the check information from the Payment documents.
This will allow you to run Print program once again and a new spool will get generated. There will be no difference in your status but you will be able to print the cheque.
But please remember, if you have already executed payment runs after this one, then it will not allow you to execute FCHD.
For why the spool was not printed immediately, check the Variant whether print immediately is ticked or not besides the printer that you have chosen.

  • Officejet Pro 8620 will not print old documents, only newly created ones

When I use the driver designed for the printer I can only print documents (Word, Excel, and Publish 2007) that are new, as long as I have not copied and pasted or inserted sheets from previously created documents.  It will not print any Outlook 2007 emails but it prints PDF's fine. Also, the printer works fine with driver for deskjet 990c but limits my options on page size and the margin on the right side won't change and are way to big for most of my documents.  Any thoughts?

    This is very peculiar @bmphr

If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.

  • Can not print out good quality pictures in Photoshop CS4...

    Hi,
I can not print out good quality photos from my printer. Photos are dark and colors are not good either. I have Windows XP, Photoshop CS4 and printer Epson R800 . I have been trying to find out what are the right settings on the computer, printer and in the software and spent hours on the computer not able to sort out this.

  • Adobe Reader does not print hatches created in AutoCADD. Is there a solution to this problem?  The hatches display, just will not print.

I have created .dwg files in AutoCadd LT and then created a .pdf file while in AutoCadd LT.  I can print my AutoCadd drawing correctly while in AutoCadd, but when printing the .pdf file created in AutoCadd, only parts of the file are printed.  All 'hatches' are ignored and not printed.
Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this issue?
    Thanks,

Thanks for the advice.  Unfortunately, the 'Print as Image' button is greyed out and not available.
    Still nothing works properly.

  • CS4 Some elements from Master not Printing?

    This is a weird one.
I have a 42 page document with 1 Master Page assigned to all 42 pages.  The Master Page has 5 elements in 5 layers.  Pages 1-35 print perfectly but from page 36 on only prints 3 of the layers on the Master Page while printing everything else.
I have re-assigned the Master Pages to insure they are applied correctly.  I have searched for any layers that might be obscuring the Master Page layers on those pages.  I have even made invisible all layers but the missing layers, then print "ONLY VISIBLE LAYERS" and get a blank page?!
The pages are rendered correctly on the screen and all the elements are displayed but they do not print from page 36 on?
    Any other troubleshooting suggestions?

Another thing to try, which might help if it's really a document problem:
Create a new blank doc the same page configuration as the original. Be sure the master pages have the same prefixes.
On the orignal master page select all and copy, then move to the master page of the new doc and paste in place (enable "Paste remembers layers" from thin Layers panel menu first) and your master should be reproduced with all layers.
Select all the pages in page panel of the orignal original, then from the panel menu choose "Move Pages..." and select the new document as the target. It will probably be easier to put them before page 1. After moving the pages, delete the original blank first page which should now be the last page. Save with a new name.

  • CS4 not finding printer

I have a problem with CS4 not finding my printer. The problem is when I
go to print or page setup, I get an error message that I must have a
printer attached before you can print.
Well CS3 can see the printer, lighroom can see the printer and so can
every other program. So I trash the pref's and it still doesn't work.
I trashed then 3 time so far and no go. I guess its magical thinking
that if it doesn't work keep trying it. Is there something I'm missing
    or is a re-install the next step. I've had photoshop 6, CS, CS2, CS3,
and now CS4. I've spent more of my limited time fighting to get CS4 to
work and keep working than I've spent on all the other versions
together. It's very disappointing. So in the interest of full discloser
    I have:
    XP service pack 3
    3.8ghz Pentium 4
    4gigs memory
    Epson R1900 printer
    Getting real tired....
    John Passaneau

    More information!
I have found that it just the PSD's that I saved on this computer at one
time, about 15 pictures that cause CS4 to lose the printers. If I load a
JPG, or a TIF it works fine. If I load a PSD that I made before or
after the offending ones they work. If I load the offending PSD into CS3
it works fine in CS3. If I save the file as a PSD with a new file name
in CS3 then it works fine in CS4. I'm dumbfounded...... Anyone have a
clue what may have happened. I've opened, closed and saved these files
with CS4 many times and printed them many times before. This is new
    behavior.
And no I have not added or changed any software of any kind other than a
print driver for the R1900. Any ideas?
One that comes to mind is to open them in CS3, save them and go on from
    there in CS4.
    John Passaneau
PS the prints from CS3 and CS4 look the same to me,color, brightness,
contrast and sharpness are the same. I would have be surprised if that
    was not true.
