Creating cache tables in the database

I was told there are 2 ways to create the cache tables/triggers/etc. in a database.
1. Modify the ld_cache.sql file shipped with ALDSP 2.5 to use our names for the cache objects and manually run the SQL against the database.
2. In the ALDSP console, click the "Enable cache" checkbox and add the table name for a data service which uses the cache.
I've done this successfully with method #1. I just got an error with method #2.
Is method #2 a correct way to create the cache objects (for the first time) in a database?
Thanks,
Michael

This is running in production mode on ALDSP 2.5, WLS 8.1.6, Sun JDK 1.4.2_11.

Is there a way to create custom tables in the portal database in EP6?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for responding, Nick.
We want to be able to display informational messages on the logon page before the user logs in.  Currently we make changes to several ASP files in EP5 to display the messages.  We want to be able to give privileged users the ability to enter the message, enter start/end date, etc.  We want to do this in EP6 as well.

  • Is there a way to create "temporary" tables in SAP database?

    Hello,
Is there a way to create temporary tables in ABAP?
    Here is our scenario:
    1. Invoke a custom RFC that creates a temporary table and returns the name of the table.
    2. Invoke another custom RFC and pass this table name as parameter. This RFC internally does some INNER JOIN with the temporary table.
    3. Invoke the third RFC to delete the temporary table.
Note that the name of the table cannot be static. We have many users using our application simultaneously and connecting to the SAP server.
I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Peter

I just ran into a similar issue.  While only calling the select statement 2 times, each time had so many entries in the 'for all entries' list, that the compiler converted this into about 700 calls to the select.  Now since the select joined three real tables on the database, the trace shows this one select as being the slowest item in this application.
I think that happened because 'for all entries' gets converted to an 'IN' clause, and then the total number of characters in any SQL statement has an upper limit.   So the compiler must make the select statement over and over until it covers all entries in the 'for all entries' list.  Is that correct?
Since every database I ever saw has the concept of db temporary tables, I have used db temp tables many times for this sort of thing.
The ABAP compiler could determine that more than one IN statement will be need, then use an alternate: write all the FOR ALL ENTRIES to a db temp table, then join on the db temp table, then drop db temp table.  Since the compiler does this sort of thing, no application code needs change to get the speed boost.

  • How to Create a table in the middle of a transaction ?

This software was written for sql and has a number of temporary table calls within transactions. We cannot precreate the temporary tables as some of the columns vary.
So we create temp tables on the fly during the transaction, but the problem with that is that Oracle will commit your transaction at the point you create a temp table.
    Here's the logic:
    Begin Transaction
Do some inserts, updates and deletes (IUDs)
Create Global temp Table zx as select <some of those IUDs>
Do some more inserts, updates and deletes
    Drop temp tables
    If worked
    Commit
    else
    Rollback entire transaction
This is what I've tried so far:
    1. Run the create table on a different connection - has no visibility to the IUDs in the current transaction
    2. Split the create table and insert (instead of using CREATE AS) statements - to allow just the create table to be on a different connection - its going to be too much work to rewrite all the statements
    3. Create a permanent table instead of a temp table - same problem with committing data before the transaction has ended
    4. Put the Create As in a stored proc with AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTION turned on - same problem it has no visibility to the current outer transaction

Thanks for coming on this thread
The tables are used throughout the product, for example to
    (a) simplify complex queries, some too complex for oracle to process in one stmt
    (b) sub selects which will be reused
    (c) performance enhancements
    (d) left joins to summary queries
We have 120 tables in our data model and there are many scenarios where temp tables are used. In sql server its not considered such a problem and programmers often create temp tables "on the fly".
In fact, when we ported to oracle a couple of years ago, we had to add more temp table creates because some of the queries were too complex for oracle.
It would be at least a months work to rewrite so temp tables are either not used or precreated, and we really have to go live with this build by the end of the week.
No doubt we will rewrite these parts of the product to cut out temp tables, or perhaps drop oracle as a supported database, but for the time being we have oracle customers waiting for other fixes so I must find a way of giving them this software without doing this huge rewrite

  • Include or create a view in the database and use this view?

Well, I need to get related data of the main table from another related tables, so one way to do that is to use the Include method in Entity Framework to get this related data.
However, I am thinking in another option, create a view in the database and use this view in entity framework. In this way, I avoid the needed of the include, because I think that is expensive in resources. But I am no very sure about that.
I would like to know if the use of views on entity framework is a good idea to improve the performace or is better to use the include.
For example, if I use the include I have the advantage that I get only one the main record and all the related data I have in the navigation properties, so the info is more shorted.
Which is the advanteges and disadvantages of both methods to get related data in entity framework?
    Thank so much.

    Hello ComptonAlvaro,
    >>I would like to know if the use of views on entity framework is a good idea to improve the performace or is better to use the include.
If your view would use a Join syntax to query master-child relationship tables, it actually is similar with the Include() method which actually results a duplicate records from master table, you could check this
    link for detail description.
    >>Which is the advanteges and disadvantages of both methods to get related data in entity framework?
One visible difference is that records from Views are not editable by default(if you want edit them, you could refer to this
    blog).
In your case, my suggestion that you could use the lazying load which will load the matter table once and disable the trace if you only need to display data.

  • Datapump skipping partitioned tables in the database

I have run expdp on Oracle 10.2.0.4.0 on AIX 5.6 Platform, the export runs well exporting rows in the database but when it comes to partitioned tables in the database it export no rows for all the partitioned tables. When I run a normal exp/imp the partitioned tables are exported with all their rows.
    I used the following commands:
    expdp system/****** dumpfile=export_data.dmp directory=DATA_PUMP_DIR full=y logfile=export_dump.log
Output for expdp on partitioned table:
    . . exported "SCOTT"."DEPT":"DEPT_2003_P1" 0 KB 0 rows
    . . exported "SCOTT"."DEPT":"DEPT_2003_P10" 0 KB 0 rows
    . . exported "SCOTT"."DEPT":"DEPT_2003_P11" 0 KB 0 rows

    And for exp:
    exp system/****** file=export_dump.dmp full=y log=export_log1.log
Result from the export log for partitioned tables:
    . . exporting partition DEPT_2005_P1 881080 rows exported

    Thanks

Sorry I just copied and pasted some extracts from my exp and expdp logs:
For testing purposes I tried to run a datapump export of only 1 partitioned table in the database and its going through, but when I do the same on a full datapump export these partitioned tables are being exported with no rows.

If I specify the parameter imp system/password file=dept_export.dmp full=y log=dept_imp.log with the same dumpfile and it imports data from the dumpfile into my database.
I am not sure what could be wrong with my dumpfile or my imp command and its parameters.

  • Table in the Database will be changed, what is impact

Hi, I'm new to the Forum.
We have a multiple reports build in the multiple Business arias, One of the Tables in the Database will be changed. My question is what is the best way to use EUL5 to see what impact it will make. I will appreciate any advise.

When you say one of the tables in the database will be changed, do you mean columns will be added, or are some columns going away, column names changing, tablename changing or what?
If the table is just getting some new columns added, then no problem. Your existing reports will still be fine and when you perform a refresh on the business area where the folder is pointing to your table, it will just pick up the new items.
If columns are going away, then your reports will get an error if they refer to that column name via the folder. You can do a kludge to cover this for the short term. In the folder in Admin, you can add a calculation with the exact same name as the column that's going away. Then - if it's a character - put in some kind of striking phrase like 'Russ Was Here'. Then when the existing reports are run, you'll see the phrase and know you just have to delete it from the report. Once all gone from all reports - you can delete the condition from the folder.
Hopefully you can see the reliance on the Discoverer folder having to have a non-changing table. The easier thing to do for the future - is to create a database view that points to the table. Then if the table changes in ANY way (well, except from being deleted altogether with no replacement table), you can always fix the view to return proper data and as your Disco folder is pointing to the view, nothing changes.
Hey this is what NoetixViews does, what BIS view do, etc. - it's IMHO the best way to go for future development.

  • Updating metadata in OWB after modifying tables in the database

    Hi All,
In our data warehouse, one key field will suffer a change in data precision, from number(4) to number(5). This field exists in several tables across the database and I have created a procedure to alter all related tables in Oracle (10g). Is there a way to create a similar procedure or script to modify the metadata in OWB in order to reflect the changes in the altered tables from the database? I think the script should refresh the tables in the metadata but I'm not sure if it would be necessary to sincronize or validate the related mappings.
I'm newbie in OWB so I'm not sure whether this is achievable or not.
Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Below is a OMBPlus tcl script to set the precision and scale of a specific column name in all tables of the current oracle module
Prerequisite is that you have made the connection to the OWB repository in OMBPlus (OMBCONNECT) and have set the context to the right oracle module (OMBCC and set OMBPROMPT ON, the latter to display your current context in the prompt)
    Happy scripting.
    proc set_nbr_len {p_objtyp p_col_name p_scale p_precision} {
       set tbls [OMBLIST ${p_objtyp}S]
       foreach tbl $tbls {
set cols [OMBRETRIEVE $p_objtyp '$tbl' GET COLUMNS '$p_col_name']
          foreach col $cols {
           set dattyp [OMBRETRIEVE $p_objtyp '$tbl' COLUMN '$col' \
                         GET PROPERTIES (DATATYPE)]
           if { [string first "NUMBER" $dattyp] != -1 } {
puts "Column $col scale & precision reset in $p_objtyp $tbl"
                    OMBALTER $p_objtyp '$tbl' MODIFY COLUMN '$col' SET PROPERTIES \
                         (SCALE, PRECISION) VALUES \
                   ('$p_scale', '$p_precision')
       OMBCOMMIT
    set_nbr_len TABLE <your column name> <your precision> <your scale>

  • Failed to Create RBS tables in Content DataBase when installed RBS

I'd config RBS for SQL server 2008 R2. But it failed to create rbs tables in content database after I'd run "msiexec /qn /lvx* rbs_install_log.txt /i RBS-x64.msi TRUSTSERVERCERTIFICATE=true FILEGROUP=PRIMARY DBNAME="WSS_Content"
DBINSTANCE="DBInstanceName" FILESTREAMFILEGROUP=RBSFilestreamProvider FILESTREAMSTORENAME=FilestreamProvider_1 "  with powershell.  And the install log file had the

Información 2769. El instalador ha encontrado un error inesperado. The
error code is 2769. Custom Action CreateFilesNoUI did not close 21 MSIHANDLEs." I'd found some imformation on this website and was told to enable "name pipes". But it doesn't work for me.
Is anyone can help solve this problem? Many thanks!

    Finally,I found the solution.
First make sure you have enable "Name Pipes" , and your sql "RemoteDacEnable" is "TRUE" , then what's the point that when you run command in powershell with"msiexec /qn /lvx* rbs_install_log.txt /i RBS-x64.msi
    TRUSTSERVERCERTIFICATE=true FILEGROUP=PRIMARY DBNAME="WSS_Content" DBINSTANCE="DBInstanceName" FILESTREAMFILEGROUP=RBSFilestreamProvider FILESTREAMSTORENAME=FilestreamProvider_1" , if
your DBINSTANCE is the defult one , then change the name whit "localhost" and not "MSSQLSERVER".
More importantly, if you had something changed , you must uninstall the RBS first then reinstall it .
I'd read a blog that if your rbs_install_log.txt is smaller than 1M ,there must be something wrong to your installation even though  it has logged that your RBS has installed successfully.
    Hope this help. Thanks!

  • How to delete duplicate records in all tables of the database

I would like to be able to delete all duplicate records in all the tables of the database. Many of the tables have LONG columns.
    Thanks.

    Hello
To delete duplicates from an individual table you can use a construct like:
    DELETE FROM
        table_a del_tab
    WHERE
        del_tab.ROWID <> (SELECT
                                MAX(dups_tab.ROWID)
                          FROM
                                table_a dups_tab
                          WHERE
                                dups_tab.col1 = del_tab.col1
                          AND
                                dups_tab.col2 = del_tab.col2
)You can then apply this to any table you want. The only differences will be the columns that you join on in the sub query. If you want to look for duplicated data in the long columns themselves, I'm pretty sure you're going to need to do some PL/SQL coding or maybe convert them to blobs or something.

Any help will e greatly appreciated. Please "cc" any reply to [email protected] also.

  • Updates to the table from the database level.

    Hi Dear All,
If we do some updates to the table at the Database Level, like i deleted some records from the table at the Oracle level. But I'm still able to see the same deleted records from the Data Dictionary(SE11) at the application level.
Can you pl explain the mechanism, that how it is possible and why.
    best regards
    Mahesh

transparent tables store data directly....if you delete some data from transparent tables, the same is reflected in the database (oracle) but the reverse is not true...if you modify the database table contents directly...the dictionary table remains intact...
transparent tables have a one-to-one relationship with the database tables....
    hope that clarifies a bit....
(somebody correct me if i am horribly wrong)
