Creating Card/Book/Calendar Freezes iPhoto 11

Trying to create holiday cards. When go to Create>Card - get the spinning ball for long period. Go to Force Quit and it shows iPhoto (not responding). Have closed and tried it over and same thing happens. Also went to Create>Book and Create>Calendar and same thing - the spinning ball. Help please. Thanks!

Glad it worked for you folks, but not here.  Select pictures or not the machine freezes when you try to create book or calendar.  I've selected pictures and not selected pictures.  I've checked for fonts and some are missing, but I don't seem to get a custom install option from my disks.  I can view older calendars, but seem to have no options to change much of anything.
Now what?
I've had nothing but trouble with iPhoto v9 in iLife 11.  Thankfully I still have iPhoto v8 from iLife 09.  I'll go see if that works with the library I kept in the older setup.

No.  The max no. of months you can create a calendar with is 24.  You might try using iCal.  It's perpetual.

  • IPhoto 9.5 - Cannot create a book anymore, causes iPhoto to freeze have to force quit

Ive had my new imac 5 days been creating a book all week, Was asked to create a new one for a family member but could not create a new book i can create a card or calender just not a book.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item you moved. If possible, restore it from a backup that predates the problem.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Can I create a printed calendar in iphoto with ipad.  Don't see that option.

IPhoto used in past by others in family to create a family calendar as Xmas gift.  This year it is my job. Downloaded iPhoto for iPad from App Store. (Paid $4.99). Now can't find path to create a calendar.  Description of iPhoto includes calendar, but seems ambiguous on use of iPhoto iPad app for this. Maybe can only do calendars on the Mac version?  Can I use iPhoto for iPad to make a calendar?

iPhoto on the iPad can be used to make photo books, but not calendars. It is a very different program from the Mac version of iPhoto. I hope you have access to a mac to create your christmas calendar.

Search the AppStore for "Foto Calendar". I have not tried any of these apps, but there are quite a few, that claim to be able to create an "Awesome foto calendar"

  • Unable to create a photo calendar from iPhoto

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a photo calendar for the first time and it just will not work for me. I've watched the tutorial and followed instructions but something is broken. I select an event with a dozen or so pictures, then hit the calendar button. Then I choose the Big Date theme, set the start month to June 2009 and set the # of months to 1. I do not choose to import any ical calendars. After clicking the OK button, the dialog windows stays open and the OK button goes gray. Nothing ever happens. The only thing I can do at this point is Cancel to dismiss the dialog. If I try a second time, both the OK and Cancel buttons are grayed out. At that point, the only thing I can do is kill iPhoto with Activity Monitor.
Has anyone else seen this behavior? Please help a mac newbie!

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
The minimum number of months in an iPhoto calendar is 12 - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3412 - try doing a 12 month calendar and I think it will work. Hanging is not a good "error exit" for the incorrect number of months but I suspect that is what is going on

  • HT1048 Ordering several products (book & calendar) through iPhoto

    Hello,
does anybody know if I can order a photo book and calendars into the same basket and pay shipping only once? If yes, how do I do this?
    Thanks for your help

No. Multiple copies of one order can be combined, but not multiple orders.

  • IPhoto Freezing but ONLY when creating Books, Calendars or Cards.  Anyone know Why?

When I try to create a Book, Card or Calendar using iPhoto (version 9.1.5), the comp says "Loading" and my pointer keeps moving but it never comes up.  I haven't used this since last year and have no idea why it will not work now.

You can update from iPhoto 9.1.5 to 9.2.1 for no cost.
How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update
If you have moved iPhoto from the default location (i.e. into a Folder) then the updater won't find it. Move it back.
If you have renamed iPhoto, the updater won't find it. Change it back.

  • HT204364 how do i just order prints?  i see options for ordering cards, books, etc. on my computer but not just prints

HOw do I order prints?  I see options for cards, books, calendars and slideshows on my computer but not prints?

What version of iPhoto are you using?  For iPhoto 9 click on the Share button at the bottom right of the iPhoto window and select Order Prints from the options presented:
Note:  I recommend that you crop the photos to the print size you want before ordering so that you can determine what part of the  photos gets cropped out rather than let the photofinisher's software do the cropping.

  • Unable to create books or calendar in iphoto 08

    Hi,
I bought my computer two months ago and am now trying to create a book and calendar for the holidays, but neither are working. The Calendar button does nothing and the book button works, but when the drop-down screen comes up, I am unable to choose what "type" of book I want, nor is there any info on the box to the left. I have visited the genius bar and have called support and no one has been able to help me. They even re-installed the operating system, iLife, iphoto, etc. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they have solved it or if anyone has any advice?
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First have you installed the latest iPhoto 7.1.1 update and theiLife Support 8.1.1 update? If not do so followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility and try again.
If the above doesn't fix the problem it looks like you'll have to reinstall iPhoto from the disks that it came on, probably the system install disks that came with your computer. Here's what you'll have to do:
1 - delete the current application.
2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.
3 - delete the Themes folder from your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder.
Also look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.
5 - boot into the system disk that came with your computer and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto. (Note: if you ever use iDVD you might try it first and see if it's themes are available. If not you'll have to do the same for iDVD as I laid out for iPhoto).
After installing reinstall the iPhoto 7.1.1 updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime, 7.3.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto, Photo Books, Calendar, Cards

    Hi There
I have tried to create a calendar with iPhoto, I have got a calendar saved but it says there are no themes available and it will not open the Calendar up. If I try to create a new Calendar, Photo Book or Card it comes up with the box to select a theme but there are no themes to select from.
    Can anyone help please?!!!?
    Thanks
    Matt

    See if this helps:
    Restoring iPhoto Themes
First look in your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If you find it there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder and reboot. Then try iPhoto again. That may save you having to go thru the reinstallation process described below:
1 - delete the current application.
2 - delete any files with iPhoto in the file name that reside in your HD/Library/Receipts folder.
3 - delete the Themes folder from your User/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder. Also look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iPhoto folder for a Themes folder. If there is one there then delete it also.
4 - mount the system disk that came with your computer, double click on the "Install Bundled Software Only" file and do a custom install selecting only iPhoto.
After installing reinstall the latest iPhoto updater again followed by a repair of disk permissions with Disk Utility. Also make sure you're running the latest Quicktime version.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • HT4990 Why is there no option to create cards in the iPhoto app? It seems odd that they have options for photo book but no cards??

I just purchased the iPhoto app for the ipad. I was very disappointed that there is no place to create cards/post cards from the iPad itself. It really seems odd since they have options to make photo books but nothing for cards and prints?
Is there any other thing I can use to get this feature from the ipad itself?

There used to be the free Cards.app to create greeting cards, but is has been discontinued two month ago:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4990
Check out this list for alternatives - I have not tried any of them, however:  http://appadvice.com/applists/show/apps-for-sending-ecards

  • Unable to create a book in iPhoto

    Hi,
I am unable to create a book in iphoto.  I have created a number of books before, however, now when I choose a theme and click ‘create’ nothing seems to happen.  When I exit out of iPhoto and load it again, my book appears under the Albums heading, instead of the usual Projects heading.  Then when I click on the book, it just shows a blank screen (if I have created an empty book) or just the photos, rather than the album pages.
    iPhoto '11 (9.2.3), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Do the following to your problem library:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

First confirm that you can create a PDF file of your book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. Post back with the results.

  • Can't create a book in iPhoto 11 (9.5)

I am trying to create a new book in iPhoto, but when I select New>Book or Share>Create>Book, it opens the book editor (I guess you call it) with a frozen loading image, and that's it. I can't change from hard cover to softcover or wire bound, or select a theme.
I am using iPhoto '11 version 9.5 (902.7) on a Macbook Air with OSX 10.9
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

I'm having the same issue on an iMac (also running 10.9). It happens when trying to create any of the "Projects" that iPhoto offers (book, calendar, or card). I just get a frozen loading image, and then iPhoto becomes unresponsive.
I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. I restarted the computer, deleted the iPhoto preference files, and even deleted the application and reinstalled it from the Mac App Store. No luck. I also tried creating an empty library and the problem happened there too. Anyone have any ideas?
