Creating categories for the photo gallery?

is it possible to separate the links into categories? (-i'm
using the plain text links instead of the drop down menu)
for example, my site has nature photos, and i'd like to break
them down into different sections, such as:
-Forests (the category)
--forest 1 (the links to the different forest galleries)
--forest 2
--forest 3
and then another category after that, say,
-Animals (the category)
--birds (the links to the galleries)
--insects
--mammals
and so forth
any ideas on how to do this?

You could include the search window on your blog site. Then each person could search the category they are interested in. You could even create a text window with sample categories listed. I know it's not what you are looking for, but it's a quasi work around to get something like what you want.
