Creating Chapter Length

I'm trying  to work with a video that is going to be used for ceremonial purposes.  On parts of it I need the video to hold on a certain image for minutes at a time.  Is there any way I can create a chapter where it's just the frozen image and it will only advance if you were to hit the button for next chapter?

If you have access to Encore, I would use it in a hearbeat. The power of DVD authoring is unleashed. Now, unfortunatly, Encore is no longer sold as a stand-alone program. It only comes bundled with PrPro, as of the CS3 version. I use EncoreDVD 2.0 (came bundled with the Adobe Production Studio package then), and it is wonderful. There are very few things, within the DVD-specs, that it cannot do.
Another stand-alone, that gets high marks, is DVD Architect. I've not used it, but following some of the discussions, it does look good. However, I have Encore, so I am not likely to change.
The biggest differences between PE authoring capabilities and those of Encore are:
1.) far greater control and flexibility in Encore
2.) far more "hand-work," as nearly everything must be done by hand, while PE is semi-automatic, with the limitation of #1 above
3.) simple Menu creation and modification is available to a greater extent in Encore, though I use Photoshop for most of that
4.) greater range of DVD delivery in Encore
5.) much better interface, IMO, in Encore - makes the power of #1 above come alive
6.) PE does everything internally, where one will need to Export from the NLE and then Import into Encore. Later versions, CS3 & CS4, offer Dynamic Linking to PrPro, and that imporves with each version, but you can still use the Export/Import workflow
7.) Menu Assets from PE can be used in Encore, plus it ships with many of its own
That's about it for the major aspects. For me, the combo of Encore, PrPro and PS cannot be beaten. PE is very nice, and I do use it along side of PrPro, but do not use it for any authoring - that is done 100% in Encore.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Tutorial on Creating Chapter Marks is Incorrect

I just discovered that by following the tutorial for adding chapter marks to a movie you end up with chapter marks that are duplicated in the chapter popup menu of the QT movie window.
Instead of "Add to Selection and Scale" as indicated in the tutorial, you need to select "Add to Movie". Once I did this, the chapter marks behaved correctly and did not duplicate. You just need to be sure that the length of your text track is the same length as the video and audio tracks.
Hope this helps someone from tearing their hair out. Luckily I discovered this before tearing all of mine out.

    Not so fast.
There's another problem, to do with the duration of the chapter track movie before it is copied and pasted into the main movie.
The tutorial tells us that when we export the timecode text file to work on, we should set fractions of seconds to 1/30th. I understand that this is because this is the way the Inspector shows time. Which, indeed, seems to be the case. (I just want to make it clear that I did this.)
Next step: in my text file I fill in my timecodes for the chapters, including the last timecode, which matches the movie's duration. I save the text file, open it in Quicktime and... whaa? The duration is fractionally longer. I select all and paste into my main movie and "Add to movie" and, yes, the chapter track pushes out the end of the movie. Well, no worries, I can trim the end of the movie.
But this is not enough! I also find that some of the chapters begin at the wrong points. Really odd. It seems to be chapter points early in the movie rather than later, which is counterintuitive since one would think that a timecode error would aggregate over the length of the movie.
The only way I've found to overcome this issue is to launch QuickTime Player 6 and use this instead. It opens text files with chapter information and creates chapter "movies" of the right length. When pasted into the main movie, chapter markers fall in exactly the right place.
I think I'd better make a bug report. Anyone else come across this?

  • Creating chapter menus on FCP & sending to my project on iDVD

    Hi,
I have tried to create chapter markers on FCP for my project and then made a quicktime movie which i then sent to idvd.
Problem is, i do not get what i expect on idvd which is a submenu with the chapters. I just get the project.
I have read up on FCP for chapter mrks and also idvd but obviosly somethings going wrong.
    Thanking you in advance,
    Maz

Assuming you are using FCP 3.0.2 or later, is this how you exported your QT movie from FCP > iDvd? (if you selected something else other than what is shown below, then it can be problematic for iDvd).
Hope this is helpful but if not come on back.

  • Flash C5 pro used to create feature length animated films

First, I have Adobe Production Suite CS5 on it's way and have been loooking for information on using several of the programs like Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere.
How is Flash C5 pro used to create feature length animated films?
*I have been searching for days for information about using Flash in the creation of feature legenth animated films and all the videos on youtube I could find where about web related usage and so where the other I viewed that googl turned up. I did turn up one movie that Flash was used in a feature animated movie for a classical 2d animation style. The name of the movie is Romeo & Juliet, Sealed With A Kiss by Phil Nibbelink. through my searching so far one item turns up but no referance on how to set up Flash otherwise if not using them and that is - DO NOT USE ACTIONS. Ok, do not use actions and no referance on how to set up Flash to use it's tools in the creation of 2d feature animated film. I know it can be done as Phil Nibbleink's Romeo & Juliet, Sealed With A Kiss illustrates that it can.
NOTE: If you have information (links, etc) on tutorials for using Flash in feature animated film making I would appricate links to them (I would prefer video tutorials). If you know if some of the companies that create taining videoes for Flash have these type of of training videoes please post who they are and the name of the course. I hace went through some of the sites that create training videoes for Flash and I could not find any they seemed to be for web usage and used actions.
ANOTHER NOTE: If you know of any fourms that are for using Flash in feature film making please post them.
*During my searching for using Flash in feature animtion film making I read a lot of toon boom vs flash items (and I am not starting a toon boom vs flash post here) one thing that seems to  stand out for toon boom is the camera fly throughs. Not having used Flash CS5 yet can this be done in Flash CS5 or is this where After Effects or Premiere is used to get that type of effect.
*Sense Flash is a vector progam and more than likely the backgrounds and some fore grounds would be made in photoshop (raster) would Flash be used to create the characters and import (if they can be imported) into After Effects or Premiere to be able to use the raster backgroud (looking for a way to use the raster background non-destruticely) and should the the raster from photoshop be brought into After Effects or Premiere as an object layer?  Having look at Illustrator's new bristle brush (which create in vectors) it looks like it might be able to get a very painterly background any thoughts on this. Digressing some from Flash.
    TIA
    John

    I found this article

    here's the link
    http://animation.about.com/od/2danimationtutorials/2D_Computer_Animation_Tutorials_StepbyS tep_Lessons_in_Flash.htm
But it does not say what the settings are to be (again is there a template or something that sets Flash cs5)

  • How can I create chapter marks in order to export to a DVD later?

With the new version of IMovie for Mac, I am not able to find where this function is.

Since Apple has ended support for DVD burning they felt no need for chapter markers in iMovie version 10.
iMovie version 9 is still in your Applications folder and it can create chapter markers.

  • Problem with creating chapter-markers

    Hi everyone,
as the title already says it, I've got a problem with creating chapter markers in Quicktime Pro 7.6.4. There's something wrong with the font, displayed in Quicktime. The problem first appeared a few days ago. Before this, everything went fine and I don't have a clue what causes the problem.
Please click HERE to see a screen-recording of the steps I do to create chapters:
    - convert the chapters into unformatted text and save it as Unicode (UTF-16) text file.
    - open it in Quicktime and everything (including the german umlauts) is displayed correct.
    - export it into a Text-file with description
when I open the new text file in Quicktime, the fonts are displayed in asian letters, but when I view it in the Texteditor, the text is almost correct, BUT the umlauts are not ok. So I go on with...
    - correct the umlauts and save a new file as Unicode (UTF-16) again.
After I open the new file in Quicktime, the text is completely gone. As the text file seems to be ok in the Texteditor, I guess there must be something wrong with Quicktime. I tried to reinstall Quicktime 7 from the "Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard" Installation-Disc, but the problem persists.
    I' would appreciate any help...
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Michael

I'm having the exact same issue. I have created my movie in IMovie 09 then under the "share " menu I sent the movie to iDVD. Everything looks fine on screen, but all I get on the final product is the movie.
After digging deeper into the tutorials all they show is dragging a movie into the idvd shell, not sharing via imovie.
Thus I'm currently attempting to create a quicktime movie then drag it into the IDVD shell. I think that way the chapter markers and everything should show up and burnt into the final project. I'm guessing the "share" option with the IDVD from iMovie doesn't work properly???

  • Extremely Basic Primer on Creating Chapter Headings

Would like to receive recommendations as to what others have found to be the single most clear and simple explanation of how to create chapter headings in a book. I've reviewed multiple sources on this, but constantly run up against issues..
    Appreciatively,
    Luca

Before I can face the book once more, it would be wise to trim away some of the false starts present in the document. I have numerous paragraph and character styles names which are useless to me, created or defined in an attempt to define and use them properly, but was generally unsuccessful in doing so. Now there are dozens that can and should be deleted.
I've formatted chapters 1 and 2 manually, temporarily giving up on the method of using variables and such, just to get some forward movement, and actually would prefer not to lose them.
The document is a technical book on optincs with many subheadings, 500 pages (hence the need to understand this process). On the left side header: chapter title. Right side header:chapter suheadiing.

  • Creating Chapter Markers

Hi, What's easiest way to create Chapter Markers in DVD Studio Pro 4?
    Thanks!

Once you've place the video on a track,,zoom in on it, then click in the area above the Timeline to make a chapter marker. Note that if you're video asset is already encoded as MPEG-2 (.m2v), the chapter marker will be placed on the nearest I frame.

  • Creating Chapter Menus - need MAJOR help

I have the Compressed movie imported into my assets.
I have dragged the movie into the menu, asked it to create a track.
I have created chapter markers in the timeline.
I even have a button ready to go for creating a chapter index.
I have created a template for all my chapters.
But I can't seem to figure out how to now create multiple menus and indexes of chapters? Nothing seems to drag here or there. What major, obvious step am I missing?

Try it the other way round...
Add your asset to your timeline, then add the chapter markers. Once done switch to outline view and drag the track icon into the menu view. Hold it a moment until the sub menu pops up, and choose the second option - 'Create Chapter Index'. After that, select the theme from the options presented.
This should get you nearer to where you want to be! Good Luck!

  • How can I create chapter markers that iTunes will recognize?

I recently purchased several audiobooks from Barnes and Noble which are encoded as MP3s with chapter markers inserted into the metadata in a proprietary format. I am trying to convert them to appear properly in iTunes.
It appears that I could import them into a GarageBand podcast project, and create markers by hand there, but that is very slow and impractical for dozens of hours of audiobooks.
I would like to simply edit the metadata associated with the file so that iTunes will recognize them.
Here is an example MP3 audiobook file with proprietary chapter metadata:

The resulting file appears to have chapter markers in the same format as the iTunes audiobook format, however the chapter markers don't show up in iTunes, QuickTime Player or on my iPhone. VLC however does recognize the chapter markers.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? I seem to be at a bit of an impasse here.
Edit: I am using iTunes 10.1.2 if that makes any difference.

    Hi,
WS20000077 this std. Workflow for the PR Release this has different levels of approvals, Depends on the no. of approvals it will flow.
The approver can picked using the User Exit M06B0001 (EXIT_SAPLEBNF_001), here you have to write a logic to pick the Approver.
The approval workitem comes to SAP Inbox, once the approver click the workitem it will open the Transaction, there the user can approve.
And for BUS2009 issue , discuss with Functional Consultant check configuration done separately  for Purchase requisition item.

  • How to create Fixed Length Flat File from Open Hub in BI 7.0

My requirement is to produce a Fixed length Flat file by Open Hub destination. My Open Hub has four fields. Now the requirement is to create another extra field in Open Hub which will contain all of the four fields value. In addition to that the fields should be fixed length that means if for any field no value is there and the field length/type is CHAR4 then 4 spaces should be there as the field value. SO, basically the Open Hub output will be single field which will contain information of four fields.
How to get this using End Routine of Transformation (from DSO to Open Hub) ?

    Hi,
You can map the four input fields to the new field in the Open Hub, and change rule type to "Routine".
For example, if your source fields are called "first", "second", "third" and "forth", the ABAP routine could be similar to:
    DATA: l_t_1  TYPE C LENGTH 4,
          l_t_2  TYPE C LENGTH 4,
          l_t_3  TYPE C LENGTH 4,
          l_t_4  TYPE C LENGTH 4.
    IF source_fields-first IS INITIAL.
      l_t_1 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-first TO l_t_1.
    endif.
    IF source_fields-second IS INITIAL.
      l_t_2 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-second TO l_t_2.
    endif.
    IF source_fields-third IS INITIAL.
      l_t_3 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-third TO l_t_3.
    endif.
    IF source_fields-forth IS INITIAL.
      l_t_4 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-forth TO l_t_4.
    endif.
    CONCATENATE l_t_1 l_t_2 l_t_3 l_t_4 into result.
In the example, the program uses four blank spaces if any of the fields has no value.
Additionally, if non-initial values in input fields could be shorter than 4 characters (if the input fields have no fixed length), you could use STRLEN to evaluate if it is necessary to add blank spaces to complete the fixed length of 4.
    I hope this helps you.
    Regards,
    Maximiliano

    Kev,
When exporting the table to the text file,  Adding CRLF to the end will cause a blank like as the process does that anyway.
The problem is how to force an 80 char Record length.
Generally when reading this type record in, by whatever you are passing this file to, would read one line at at time and the imbedded CRLF would signify the end of the record.  When whatever is reading this in, if the process has the input record defined as 80 bytes,
    you should be fine.
Only other solution that I can think of is to bury a character in the 80th position and let the reading process ignore or change that character to a space when they read it in.

  • Creating Chapter playlists and deleting them

I'm trying to learn how to play a whole video with one manu button and play chapter of the same video with chapter buttons.
I see it posted here in several places that one needs to make a chapter playlists for each chapter.
But that I guess it means if you have 4 chpters, to do:
file/new/create new playlist, 4 times. And put one chapter on each.
I found creating them is easy but made mistakes on them once created like inadvertantly adding a second chpter. I managed to do this several times on several different playlists. I see no way to get rid of them. Or even see them. Once a new one is created where do the others go?
window/playlist viewer shows a screen that says there are no playlists but the end action list shows several of them as does the `work flow' view.
Niether place appears to offer a way to delete or edit them.

    Harry Wrote:
    > Now my chapter buttons fail.. I see no way to set an end action for them now

    > Are you talking about the buttons in the menu or the chapter markers in the timeline? You set end actions for the chapter markers in the timeline.
    > Double- and triple-check that no overrides are set.
    > If my method is giving you a headache trying to figure it out and you find yourself spending more time than you'd like, perhaps your original method of using one chapter playlist per chapter and no chapter end actions at all would be a better solution for you. As I said before, they are functional equivalents on the finished disc.
    Buttons in the menu...
No it wasn't your method which seems like a good one.
Its more a problem of deep seated stupidity here.
I Previewed from a chapter button but let it finish (it was a very short chpt) instead of hitting the `end action' button.
When one lets the previewer finish, it just stops, never returning to menu.... my error.
But still I thought I remembered the chapter buttons having end actions available in previous attempts here. I see I've confused what one sees in proprerty screen when clicking a timeline in project windo w with what one sees in properties window when clicking a button.
Of course it is the timeline played by a button that has an `end action' not the button itself.
Thanks for taking the time to help... I think I might have it now.

  • Auto create chapter menu

    Hi,
I've got a track with 12 chapter markers. Is there a way to create an index menu that will automatically fill in with my chapter points from a given track. and include the asset at the correct spot for each chapter? Or must I do it all manually...
    Thanks!

Yup - drag the icon for your track from the outline list on the left into the menu area (make a new menu first). Hold it for a moment until the pop up dialogue appears, and choose the option to make a chapter index and connect the buttons. You then have to choose a theme for the set of menus that gets created.

  • Which styles create chapter markers in epub output?

I exported Apple's "ePub Best Practices for Pages" document to ePub, and transfered it to my Kindle. I noticed that both the "Chapter Name" style and the "Heading" style show up in the TOC, but only the "Heading" style shows up as chapter markers on the Kindle's progress bar.
I'd like the "Chapter Name" to show up there as well. What about the "Heading" style (that is obviously different from the "Chapter Name" style) is causing this to happen?

You always need to reformat drives from PC formatting (FAT32) to Mac-compatible.
+dragging the .DV file to a drop zone and then selecting the file (giving it the yellow and black striped border)+
Ah, I see the problem. You are putting your movie into the wrong place! You cannot put a video into a drop zone and expect to have chapters there. Maybe you are misunderstanding drop zones. Drop zones are defined areas on an iDVD menu in which you drop content--short video/photo--that will play when the DVD disk is inserted into a DVD player; it plays while the viewer is deciding to select to view the entire movie or view different chapters. The content in a drop zone plays for a limited time only. You cannot get your entire movie to play unless it is very short, which I am assuming it is not, since you wish to have chapters dividing it.
To get your video into iDVD for that type of viewing, DON'T put it into a drop zone. AVOID the drop zone and drag the video to the background area of the iDVD main menu screen. Now you should have the create chapters option available,
