Creating Contacts on iPhone

When creating contacts on iPhone there is no way of entering countries that are not on the standard list of countries.
F.e. in South America, there is only Argentina, Brazil and Mexico. There is no way of putting country names in as a free text field.
I do see that if you sync the addressbook, contacts created on the mac or PC with different countries are brought over with the correct countries, however I cannot create contacts from say Chile on the run.
Anyone has a solution for that?

If you touch the left side of the telephone number field, you get a drop down Label from which you can select the type of number it is to be.

  • New created contacts in iPhone are stored in MS Exchange account instead of iCloud account

Using iPhone with iCloud accounts, and MS Exchange account ( with contact sync ON )
When create a new contact in the phonebook, the created contact are saved in Exchange account instead of Apple iCloud account
I do not wanna turn off the contact sync in Exchange account because this will make me unable to search in mailing list stored in the server.
This happened when you create new contact using "Log" screen  (i.e. create a contact from a previous dailed number )
I just wanna make Apple iCloud account the default account for new contacts
    Any idea how ?
    Thanks

You're welcome.  If your exchange contact list is fairly static, I can give you instructions for how to copy them to your iCloud account if your interested.  This would allow you to disable contact syncing with exchange, eliminating this issue.  If you want to do this, just reply back.

  • Outlook "file as" after crating contacts in iPhone

After creating contacts in iPhone (first name, last name), it appears (last name, fist name) in "file as" outlook (sync with exchange). any idea to resolve this situation?
    Thanks RR

When syncing any device with an application on your computer, you should maintain a backup of the application's data on your computer to be on the safe side.
As a first step, create a backup of your Outlook contacts and calendar events. Outlook should include a simple backup or export option for this data.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences - at the bottom below Advanced, select Contacts under "Replace information on this iPhone:".
Select Apply at the bottom right, and if your iPhone is not synced, select Sync.
I don't know how common this problem is, but I've never experienced the same since 6/29 of last year.

  • Contacts created on my iPhone won't sync anymore (iOS 6 & 10.6.8)

    Hi,
Contacts created on my iPhone don't sync with Mac (= are not visible in Address Book).
    I have this problem since I made the iOS 6 update (iPhone 4 / iOS 6.1.2 / Mac OS 10.6.8 / iTunes 11.0.2 / USB sync).
I tried disabling / enabling Contacts sync in iTunes. No effect.
Using iCloud and/or upgrading to Lion is not a solution for me.
Haven't found any solution yet. Others have the same issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20363944#20363944
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/21481733#21481733
The only clue I've got is the following: using a freeware to backup my phone contacts (by searching in the backup file of the phone created by iTunes), I noticed that the freeware finds the same number of contacts (856) on my phone that Address Book displays on the Mac — yet the iPhone should have 2 more (or the mac 2 less), since I created 2 contacts on the phone that don't display on the mac. So maybe, just maybe, it's a "visibility attribute" problem? I'm not technician.
This issue is very irritating, basically there's no "synchronization" per se anymore.
Thanks in adavance for any help you may provide.

There have been some reports of this with iTunes 9.1. There is a new update that may fix it. Use the "check for updates" in the iTunes Help menu.
If that fails try completely uninstalling iTunes as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, download the latest iTunes from the Apple site, then reboot and install the downloaded iTunes. Be sure Outlook is not running during the removal or installation processes.
Oh, BEFORE you do any of the above make sure iTunes is still set to sync with Outlook (on the Info tab). Try the simple stuff first!

  • Contacts created on the iPhone do not get synced to Outlook Contacts

For some reason, contacts created on the iPhone do not get transferred over to Outlook Contacts.
I sync the iPhone to my work computer for Calendar and Contacts. I sync to my home iMac for tunes, video, and photos. So far this is the only problem I've encountered. Calendar entries created on iPhone sync to Outlook Calendar ok (and vice-versa). My iTunes sync setting on the work PC is Sync contacts with Outlook. All Contacts. The other two choices ("Selected Groups" and "Put new contacts created on this iPhone into the Group") are greyed out and unavailable.
    I'd appreciate any advice....

  • Can you send an event created on your iphone to a contact from your iphone?

Can you send an event created on your iphone to a contact from your iphone? If so I can't figure it out. I have asked this question before and somebody told me you could if you were a mobileme or exchange user. Well I am a mobileme user and if it can be done, I can't figure it out.
    Any help appreciated.

From the calendar app on my iphone? I know I can do it from iCal and from mobileme. When I look at the event on my iphone I can look at the invitees, but I do not see where I can add or delete an invitee. Maybe I am just missing it.

  • Put new contacts created on this iPhone into the group...

When I go into iTunes with my phone synced, and then go to the info tab and Contacts, the check box for "put new contacts created on this iPhone into the group" is greyed out. How can I...ungrey it?
EDIT: Solved my own problem. For those of you who are also wondering, I first had to create multiple groups in Address Book. Then it allowed to me check the "Select Groups" box, and the "put new contacts created on this iPhone into the group" box. Problem solved!

  • New contacts that I create on my iPhone keep disappearing. I am using iCloud too.

I am using an iPhone 4S, a MacBook (not the Pro) an iPad 1 and the iMac.I am also using the iCloud on all devices other than the iMac. For some reason I frequently find that the some of the new contacts I am certain that I created on my iPhone just disappear and I can never find them if I search for them after a few days. Why does this happen??

Have you followed Apple's troubleshooting tips?

  • Address Book/Contacts/Google/iPhone Sync = Tons of Duplicates?

Hi, folks - I'm syncing my contacts with Google, using the following:
    1. iPhone: Google Sync for Calendars & Contacts using Microsoft Exchange
    2. Macbook: Address Book also syncing to Google under Preferences.
This setup is creating tons of duplicate contacts each day. It's usually the same handful of contacts that get duplicated dozens and dozens of times throughout the day, bloating my few hundred contacts into thousands of entries.
I'm guessing that the set-up below is creating some kind of infinite loop for certain items, and doubles them every time it tries to sync. But I can't find any common characteristics for the items that keep duplicating.
I'm sure the easiest fix would be to turn off option 2, and stop trying to keep my Macbook's local contact list in sync. But that's my way of "backing up" incase my Google account ever gets hosed for any reason.
    Does anybody know:
    1. How I can fix my set-up above to stop the dupe-loop, OR
    2. How to troubleshoot each contact that's duping, fix fields/data etc OR
    3. A better way to auto-backup Google so I don't have to use Option 2 at all?
    Thanks!
    Michael

    Have the same problem.
Today, as usual did a sync and was very pleased to find that almost all my contacts on IPhone were duplicated. Weird, not all of them.
The problem is that I have to double check every contact, because the duplication was a bit...weird also. Not all duplicates are the same. One might contain all info about a contact and another one might have only one phone number.
So, this is a BIG problem.
I tried deleting all contacts from my Outlook database and sync.
Oh, the joy of having all your IPhone contacts DELETED without even a warning.
Restored a backup and got all my Contacts back, duplicated of course.
Believe me, I am DEAD AFRAID of using ITunes again. Maybe for the ones that did the programing of it might have some logic, but for me, as well as for many Apple customers with the same problem (and more) I think NOT.
This piece of software must have been written on some crazy after party weekend, because I cannot understand how such a big name like Apple can release such a badly written application.
Do we have an alternative to ITunes?
I am using it for backing up my contacts, because I tend to loose my phone all the time
I would use it for purchasing some interesting software from the store, but, most of the software I like...are not in my country's store :)) (Google Earth, The Discovery software, etc). Way to go!
I do remember Nokia and their little application. So easy to do anything. Apple, weak up!!!

I don't know if this is a similar problem but I wrote 2 notes yesterday on my iphone. I opened my mail to print them and they appeared as notes but wouldn't load. Then I looked at them on my iphone and I could see the notes but they quickly updated to blank with a time of the last edit the same time I tried opening them on my computer.
Yesterday I updated to 4.3.4  I don't know if somehow that affected them. Are they stored somewhere else. Can I get them back?

  • Can you make a group on contacts on iPhone 4

    O.S 5.1 iPhone 4
Can the iPhone 4 make a contact group as you can on 4G phone
    If so, can someone explain
    Thanx in advance

You could use an app like Speed Names to create contact groups on your phone.  (Not sure what you mean by "...as you can on 4G phone".  There isn't a "4G" phone (just 4 and 4S) and, as far as I know, you can't create contact groups on the phone without an app.)
