Creating core dump
Hi,
i want to debug some programs and i therefor want them to core dump on segmentation fault. But i'm not able to make arch create a core dump file.
The problem is that i'm not allowed to change ulimits. Whenever i try to change it with my normal user account i get:
lothar@timbutu:~$ ulimit -c 10000
bash: ulimit: core file size: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted
Root does not have this problems. I tried to set reasonable limits in /etc/security/limits.conf:
* soft core 100000
* hard core 100000
but that didn't help. Any ideas?
Regards,
Lothar
No, i wasn't. But joining users and relogin didn't help. I still get
lothar@timbutu:~$ ulimit -c 10000
bash: ulimit: core file size: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted

I am having a problem to bring in a EMC clariion disk to the zpool of my V245 server. I can newfs the powerpath device and create files, I just couldn't create a zpool using that. any idea? Btw, the disk is only 64GB, it shouldn't hit the zfs limitation.

I installed an x86_64 sol 10 u5 on an x2200 connected to our Clariion CX3-20c, but was unable to get MPxIO to work, hence I reverted to PP. I'm using an emulex HBA with 120223-28 (SunFC emlxs v20080520-2.31g). Basically all tools indicate seeing all paths to my lun, but I can't open it using format. It shows the auto-mapped device but can't get the geometry on it (shows drive type unknown). I also see log messages indicating 'multipath optimal' but then several 'drive offline' lines further down.
If I disable MPxIO via stmsboot -d, format shows my lun across my four paths, and I can open/format two of those that are identified correctly (I'm assuming one on each SP). I haven't tested, but I'm think that I would see the mentioned loss of failover as zfs would be talking directly to one path.
My current thinking is that there is either a bug in zpool/zfs or, perhaps more likely, my drive conf files are fubar. My current scsi_vhci.conf - comments excluded:
name="scsi_vhci" class="root";
load-balance="round-robin";
auto-failback="enable";
device-type-scsi-options-list =
"DGC RAID", "symmetric-option";
symmetric-option = 0x1000000;
And in case anyone is curious, there are exactly eight characters between DGC and RAID.
If anyone is still listening, any thoughts? -

Core dump when clearing vector of std::string/creating std:string
Hi,
I am seeing a couple of core dump which point to std::strings like the ones below. The application is a multi-threaded application and compiled on sun4u 5.8 sparc with Sun Studio 11 C++ compiler 5.8 Patch 121017-16. The stack trace is being shown from a shared library which we built and is being used by our daemon service. I stack traces points to code where simple operation like clearing of vector<std::string> or creating or erasing std::string. The runtime environment is Solaris 5.10 sun4u sparc with SUNWlibC patches of 119963-19 and 119963-10.
We had an issue with clearing of vectors earlier whcih we solved by applying some compiler patches. This issue coming even after we have built the binaries with compiler patches. I have made sure that both the daemon and the shared library are all built with same compiler version. I would appreciate if any possible direction can be given for this.

The the application in question is built using various third party libraries and we will not be able to compile it with SunStudio 12. Even if we do that we may have to test for functionality which can be a major task now.
Is there any other way in which I can proceed to verify this in client's env?
Running the app in DBX didn't work as when the process was started it said

Core dump are creates even though my server does not crash
I am having an issue with a large number of core dump files getting generated by jrockit that occupies the disk space daily almost 8 files are generated of size 150 to 800 MB
However, what amazes me is that the weblogic server does not crash
I have also checked the logs there where certain errors but not something that could crash my servers and the weblogic server was running all the time.
I know I can stop the generation of core dump files by using ulimit. But if I do so and if my Jrockit crashes It wont generate the core dump file that would be needed
My configuration is
a) WLS Version:10.3.2.0
b) OS Type: Oracle Solaris 10 on SPARC (64-bit)
c) JDK Vendor & Version: BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.6.5-32_o-121899-1.6.0_14-20091001-2106-solaris-sparcv9
Any help is greatly appreciated
As the files are taking up all the spaceDid you get a solution for this issue ? I have the same HD which works fine on two other Mac Book pros (Snow leopard and mountain Lion) but does not work on a brand new mac book pro with Mavericks

XMLType table Core Dump using CLOB
I've created an object based XMLType table based on a valid XML Schema. The Schema has an element which has been declared as a CLOB.
<xs:element name="complete_entry" xdb:SQLType="CLOB" xdb:SQLName="complete_entry"/>
This registers ok with Oracle and the object that this element is in shows the element as a CLOB as expected.
However when performing a insert into this table, SQLPlus gives and end-of-communication error and the server core dumps.
A PL/SQL function retreives an XML file from the file system for insert, here is the code for the function:
create or replace function getClobDocument(
filename in varchar2,
charset in varchar2 default NULL)
return CLOB deterministic
is
file bfile := bfilename('DIR',filename);
charContent CLOB := ' ';
targetFile bfile;
lang_ctx number := DBMS_LOB.default_lang_ctx;
charset_id number := 0;
src_offset number := 1 ;
dst_offset number := 1 ;
warning number;
begin
if charset is not null then
charset_id := NLS_CHARSET_ID(charset);
end if;
targetFile := file;
DBMS_LOB.fileopen(targetFile, DBMS_LOB.file_readonly);
DBMS_LOB.LOADCLOBFROMFILE(charContent, targetFile,
DBMS_LOB.getLength(targetFile), src_offset, dst_offset,
charset_id, lang_ctx,warning);
DBMS_LOB.fileclose(targetFile);
return charContent;
end;
The function is called like so:
INSERT INTO boss_contracts
VALUES(XMLTYPE(getCLOBDocument('contract_82.xml','UTF8')));
This works perfectly when the element is declared as a string and Oracle converts it to a varchar2(4000), but core dumps when it is a CLOB.
I need this element to be able to handle more than 4k of data.
please help,
Paul Linney

Linux 6.1/Oracle 8.1.5 Pro C compilation core dumps
Linux installation did not place stdarg.h or stddef.h in the /usr/include directory for some reaon. I located different copies in other directories and have created symobolic links to them all in the end. BUT all result in the following error when I attempt to make sample1.pc in $ORACLE_HOME/precomp/demo/proc. Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix this problem.
Yours hopefully Kev

nullThanks for your input. But having investiagted further I have made progress.
On one of the FAQ docs listed throughout the Linux Forum I found an example of what should be in the pcscfg.cfg file. Once this was in place I then had, /usr/bin/ld cannot find -laio (or the file /usr/lib/libaio.a). To get a clean(ish) compile, I created a symbolic link from libc.a to libaio.a which is crude but was effective. I had a working Pro C exe.
I understand that the second patch solves the libaio.a prob as well as others. But a colleague has installed it and had to regress it, due to more damaging problems he listed but I cannot recall at this time.
Thanks again. -
Inetd service/program crashes with core dump in Solaris 8 zone/container
I have developed a service in C that is launched from inetd when something comes on a specific port.
When a connection is opened to the port a core dump is created in the same directory where the executable file is located.
If you run the same service program from the command line everything is working perfect.
This is running in a Solaris 8 zone/container on a Solaris 10 machine.
Everything is set correctly in /etc/inetd.conf and in /etc/services.
I have even stripped down the program to a hello world program that is just printing a string to the screen and it is still crashing with a core dump.
# ldd test_srv
/usr/lib/secure/s8_preload.so.1
libc.so.1 => /usr/lib/libc.so.1
libdl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
/usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R/lib/libc_psr.so.1
The same service is running on a Linux machine and on a Solaris 10 machine without zones/containers without any problems.
Can you please help me figure out what am I missing. Is there something specific with zones/containers that should be set / configured?
Do I have to set some specific env. variables to work in a Solaris 8 zone/container environment or is it something very simple that I'm missing?Could you please examine the truss log and advice what the problem is and how to fix it?

11g Native Web Services Core Dump ( qmuwsPrintPackWSDL() )
I know that native PL/SQL web services are newer functionality, but I have not been able to find any information on the following issue on MetaLink or here on the forums. When creating 11g native web services when attempting to retrieve the WSDL documents from the server the document is only partially served (estimated at about 2/3rds) or not at all (blank document returned).

MDM installation on AIX 5.3 core dumps
Hi all,
We installed MDM 5.5 SP4 on AIX 5.3 ML 5 (and the latest patches were applied last week-end).
The MDM Server, Import and Syndication daemons are started.
Database is Oracle 10.2 (corresponding Oracle client is used), installed on the same server.
MDM client software is in sync with the server level.
Since the installation, we get core dumps of the mds daemon (even when trying to perform the most basic operations). Consider it to be completely unusable for testing anything. You look at it, it breaks. Sorry, but that is how it is.
MDM Patches and hotfixes to the patches have been applied up to the latest level The problem is reported at SAP Support and they have core dumps, logfiles, trace files for studying. So far, the only feedback we got was to install MDM on its own server (it is a trial installation on a server where other applications are running - though I can hardly see that as a cause for core dumps).
My questions :
- are we unique in running MDM on this software paltform ?
- are others (if they exist experiencing the same problems on AIX 5.3 ?
To be honest : for the moment we are thinking about reinstalling on a Windows server.
Thanks in advance for any feedback,
Frank Van OverloopHello,
we have finally made some progress on this issue.
Basically, we suffered from a combination of :
- wrong usage of the product
- probably shaky exception handling in the AIX version
The cause was found by SAP MDM support after we reconstructed the problem while using a special debug-version of the mds executable. This produced a usable dump.
--- extract from the SAP reply -
The core dump shows a crash in recalculating the family tree after the
import. Family tree is being used only to create printed catalogs (which require the publisher and an additional license).
1) Do you have any value in the categories table?
2) Does the MDM server crash if you cancel the automatic family tree
recalculation in the import map, and answer "no" in the dialog box which asks to recalculate the family tree?
3) Do you intend to create a printed catalog?
If the answer to any of the questions is "no", then this asserts that
the recalculation of the family tree should not take place at all. In
this case the family table could/should be deleted. And this should not
reoccur.
end extract -
After we deleted this family table, the tests are running stable.
It's a pity that the program does not 'die' in a more elegant way or gives some understandable indication on what is going wrong.
It also looks like this exception is handled better on the Windows implementation. The same 'functional mistake' was made there and this produced no dumps at all. Could be a porting issue from one platform to another.
Regards,
Frank -
Core dump when starting extract, no error messages
Hello,
This is a basic one way replication, Data Pump and Replicat start but Extract stops at once.
In ggserr.log there's only a message: EXTRACT EORATE02 starting, nothing else. In ggsci it can be seen that it's stopped.
CHECKPARAMS didn't give the message "Parameters processed successfully", neither did it give error messages
when starting the extract.
There are no old Oracle processes which could prevent Extract from starting.
There's EORATE02.pce in dirpcs, although EORATE02 is not running. If I delete it and try to start the extract,
the extract will immediately stop.
A core file has been created in GG_HOME when trying to start the extract. I haven't been able to find out how to read it.
Source and target are on Aix 6100-06. The source database is Oracle 10.1.0.5, target database is Oracle 11.2.0.3.
The installation files are V32435-01.zip for db 10.1.0.5 (ggs_AIX_ppc_ora10.1_64bit.tar), V32437-01.zip
for db 11.2.0.3 (ggs_AIX_ppc_ora11g_64bit.tar). This is GoldenGate 11.2.1.0.1.
The db:s are on Asm.
There's only 1 table in source, 1 in target, they are identical and empty.
There's enough space in the OS.
If I run the extract in OS (extract paramfile dirprm/eorate02.prm), it ends like this without more information:
TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER ggs_owner@HOSTNAME:1521/+ASM , ASMPASSWORD *********
Abort(coredump)
This happens in both ways of extract described below.
(1)
EXTRACT EORATE02

Edited by: user11323660 on 14.6.2012 6:41Hello,
Could you wrap your process definitions in proper code brackets so its easier to understand.
Also I'm not sure what your problem is other then you are receiving core dumps. I'm happy to help.
Two small comment though regarding your ASM config
1 . Dont not use ggs_owner as the asm user
TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER ggs_owner@HOSTNAME:1521/+ASM , ASMPASSWORD *********2. Create a TNSNAMES entry for your ASM instance and tehn use the following:
TRANLOGOPTIONS ASMUSER SYS@ASM, ASMPASSWORD *****Also here is an example of an extract process that I've setup on RAC database with ASM

Import command for one table core dumps
Hi,
The following import command is causing a core dump;
$ imp system/***** file=/upload/dbdumps/06-09-19_11.00.01-db.dmp fromuser=ioeadmin tables=(utils) 2>&1 |tee imp.log
But this one does not:
$ cat imp.params
FULL=y
FILE=/upload/dbdumps/06-09-19_11.00.01-db.dmp
GRANTS=y
INDEXES=y
$ imp system/*****@odinprd parfile=imp.params 2>&1 |tee imp.log
More info:
SunOS 5.8 / Oracle 8.1.5
Thank you for any help on thisI don't have access to Metalink. What would it say -- "imp tables=" doesn't work in 8i?
So I have tried the following:
1. drop the table I want to restore.
2. run this command to restore all tables and let it fail on those tables that already exist and recreate the one i dropped.
imp system/code4202@odinprd full=y show=y file=/upload/dbdumps/06-09-27_00.00.00-db.dmp 2>&1 |tee imp.log
But it doesn't. It says this about the table in question:
"ALTER SCHEMA = "IOEADMIN""
"CREATE TABLE "PARTNER" ("PARTNER_ID" VARCHAR2(16) NOT NULL ENABLE, "PARTNER"
"_TYPE" VARCHAR2(16), "ADDRESS_ID" NUMBER(10, 0), "PAYMENT_ID" NUMBER(10, 0)"

"HAR2(10), "TMB_TYPE" NUMBER) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40 INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255"
" LOGGING STORAGE(INITIAL 10240) TABLESPACE "APP_DATA""
. . skipping table "PARTNER"
why is it skip this guy? It does not exist:

SQL> desc ioeadmin.partner;

Core Dump in Foccur32() due to Address Misalignment
Hi,
I am working on Tuxedo 11.1_RP090 with HP-UX IA64, and after a call to tpcall() there is a core dumped due to address alignment issue. The following is excerpt from gdb backtrace.
<snip>
Program terminated with signal 10, Bus error.

at my_app.c:1215

In Frame 15, there is a call to tpcall() as follows:-
tpcall((char *)l_service,
l_request_buf,
l_request_buf_len,
l_response_buf,
l_response_buf_len,
mtux_flags(l_flags))
From there the tuxedo code gets called and Signal 10 is raised in Frame 7, inside Foccur32(). Since we do not have the code for Foccur32.c,
it is difficult for us to determine which address data structure passed as input parameter to tpcall() is misaligned or is it some misaligned pointer in Foccur32() code.
It would be helpful, if someone can guide as to which structure needs to be examined for possible misalignment.
Can someone please let me know what can be done to know whether code causing issue at line no. 87 in Foccut32() comes from the parameters passed to tpcall()?
I am not sure whether it is due to the parameters we pass or due to some internal data structure used by Foccur32().

From a quick look at the code in affinity.c I'm guessing that you have a memory corruption problem. The fault is occurring while trying to access the Tuxedo META TCM, a header that Tuxedo associates with the request. If you can create a simple reproducer I would suggest opening a support request and provide the reproducer.
As always, if this is a new problem, what's changed in your environment or application? Also what is the environment/configuration of your Tuxedo application?
