Creating custom buttons in Photoshop
Alright, I've been searching the forum and web all day and done some tutorials but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for or can't make it work so I'm throwing out a life line.
I would like to create a custom button in Photoshop that I can use in DVDSP 4. I've built a psd file at 300x300 pixels@ 72ppi in a 16bit file. I created the 4 layers and arranged them from top to bottom Icon, Hightlight, Shape, and Mask.
Imported into DVD studio pro as a custom shape, dragged it into the menu and said make button. Went to the color tab in the inspector clicked simple and change the normal selected and active states but it changes it for the whole button shape not just the shape of the psd file. HELP!!

How to create custom button by amending template in sc and change po screen
Hi,
Can anybody tell the steps that How to create custom button by amending the template in shopping cart or change purchase order screen.
Full points for the answer.
Edited by: shraman saha on Aug 17, 2008 6:44 PMHi,
I dont have any idea what you mean by Template for "Change Purchase Order" functionality. As far as i know there is a change button on the screen using which we go to the change mode and edit the PO.
About your other query: you do not require to download any HTML pages. To see the templates for PO go through the following path:
Transaction SE80 --> Internet options --> in the drop-down enter BBP_POC (for PO) --> Topic 99 --> HTML templates.
Then look for the following templates :
SAPLBBP_PO_UI_ITS 3000 --> for header basic data
SAPLBBP_PO_UI_ITS 4000 --> for item overview
SAPLBBP_PO_UI_ITS 4100 --> for item basic data
SAPLBBP_PO_UI_ITS 2200 --> for buttons.
Make appropriate changes to the screen and then publish it before using it. It is just like activating objects.
Hope this helps.

You can not make TRUELY custom buttons inb Photoshop
After several weeks of research, dozens of forum posts and replies, I have come to the conclusion that only BASIC, SIMPLE buttons can be made in Photoshop and ported into DVDSP where the only attribute for the selected state is a highlighted background. (ver 3.x)
One of the reasons for needing to create a custom button is for outlined text. This is needed to be able to see smaller buttons on a picture backgrounded menu where there is a lot of dark/ bright spots. Even when porting into DVDSP a button that is outlined text (by applying "Stroke" to the text and rasterizing) the text is solid when in DVDSP.
I was able to do a lot to buttons in Adobe Encore, I can make a line appear when selected as well as change the background color. It was simple to do. Each button was a single .psd file with a Specific name for each Layer SET, not layer. It seems that buttons in DVDSP are embedded objects within a master file.
I defy anyone to create a button for DVDSP (or say how) with the following attributes:
Not Selected--->Outlined text, nothing else
Selected------->Same text, with a line above and a line below and slightly highlighted background.
Activated (optional) Same as selected but with a different highlight color.
Thanks
Mike
G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)I am not sure if I am understanding the issue, did you look at the examples in the other post?
http://dvdstepbystep.com/newmap.php
http://dvdstepbystep.com/qm.php
If I understand what you want, create an overlay with 3 colors, the Black, Blue and Red with the Chroma keys, the outline is Black in the file, the lines are Blue in the file and and the Highlights Red in the file
1.) Selected - Map Black to whatever percentage color you want, Map Blue and Red to 0 percent
2.) Selected- Map Black to whatever percentage color you want, Map Blue for the line Color/Precentage and then Red to a color semi transparent number (lower numbers more transparent) which will highlight/tint the background
2.) Active - Map Black to whatever percentage color you want, Map Blue for the line Color/Precentage and then Red to a color semi transparent number (lower numbers more transparent) which will highlight/tint the background
Not sure if you envision something else for the highlight on the background? If you mean change the actual background color of the entire background you probably want to use layered menus -
I would like to make a button that initiates the "run sequence" and at the same time sets all the values to default. Is it possible to create a custom button that does this action. If so how do you create the custom button.
Hi,
I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the "run" sequence and what values you are setting to default. Also, if this isn't something specific to your hardware you would probably get more answers on a LabVIEW discussion board.

Creating Custom Buttons in Captivate 3
In the first version of Captivate, I was able to create my
own image buttons, including the three states of the button (over,
down, click). When I select one of the included buttons in
Captivate 3, the three states of that button are added
automatically. How do I create my own custom buttons and include
the three states in Captivate 3?
Thanks,
EricaHi Erica and welcome to our community
The process is essentially the same. The only difference here
is that instead of just browsing to the button images and selecting
them individually, you name them appropriately and place them where
Captivate expects to find them.
They are expected to be found in the following location:
(Assuming you haven't deviated from the default location during
install)
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 3\Gallery\Buttons
The names should be:
ButtonName_down.EXT
ButtonName_over.EXT
ButtonName_up.EXT
*Note that .EXT reflects the image format. This could be .GIF
or .JPG or .PNG or .BMP and ButtonName reflects what you want to
call your button.
Hope this helps... Rick -

Instead of Edit button in the UiTableView, we can create a custom buttons. Basically once we clicked the edit button it shows the option (delete button) to delete the corresponding row.
Like that is it possible to create a custom button? Clicked on custom button, instead of delete button can we show other buttons (ok/cancel), rather than delete we can do any other action?

There is a way to create custom buttons in Photoshop that exibit the 3 states that a button has:
1. Not Selected
2. Selected
3. Activated
I believe that 3 layers need to be created, one for each state??? If so Just How do you Specify Which layer is which?????
When I was doing the PC thing (using Adobe Encore) all that was needed was to Name the layers with a special name, however, that does not work in DVDSP (at least not the naming convention)
I believe that I am within one foot of a 10000 mile journey, I just need the Meat and I will be there.
Thanks

G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9)Hal,
So far, I have been able to create a button by creating a photoshop file with the word "Test". I then created a blank button in DVDSP by dragging the mouse in a shape I wanted. I then drug the fie from the finder onto the blank button and selected "Set Asset".
Using the colors tab in the inspector I found out that the 4th "Key" for color set 1 controls the Background highlight, the other 3 "Keys" control nothing (for This button)
I want to have lines and objects "Light up" when selected, not just the background.
I believe that there is a relationship to the "Keys" and what they control. So far , "Key" 4 (the bottom one) controls the background. Are objects in layers 1 through 3 controled by "Keys" 1 through 3??
If so I need a little help on how to create a line or something in a specific layer.
Thanks
Mike
PS I can drag psd files into DVDSP menus and buttons, but if you right click in the buttons area and select "Import" , it does not want photoshop files.

How can I create a custom button for opening a form?
I have a parent form having child forms. In my main form I want to create custom buttons for opening child forms. I want to use master-detail form but there are more than one child forms, and in master-detail form I can only create one detail form. So I will create a form based on a table and in that form I will call the child forms by custom buttons. Can I do that?
Thanx,
Gulsah.This can be easily done. First open up two instances of your Portal. In one window, you will need to go into your component you wish to link FROM. In the other window you will need to go into your component you wish to link TO. In the component you wish to link TO there will be a moduleid. Note this somewhere. Then, you will see an area that says: "Call Interface: Show". Click on this. (In the window you are linking to.). In this window, you will see a bunch of stuff. At the bottom you will see a URL call. This is the call you need to use. At the top, it explains each piece of the URL call. Just subsitute YOUR appropriate information into the URL call. In the form you wish to link FROM, create a button. Once you create this button, it will appear at the bottom, click on it and you will see an area to insert a Javascript. Click the onClick and insert:
//this is the variable you want to pass from one form to the other
get_field_name = getField(this.form,'COLUMN_NAME_IN_DATABASE');
//this is so you can open the "child" form
window.open('/pls/cc_prod/DAD_NAME.wwa_app_module.link?p_arg_names=_moduleid&p_arg_values=MOD_ID_HERE&p_arg_names=_sessionid&p_arg_values=&p_arg_names=COLUMN_NAME_IN_DATABASE&p_arg values='+GETFIELD_NAME+'&p_arg_names=_COLUMN_NAME_IN_DATABASE_cond&p_arg_values=%3D');
In the fourth tab, where it says, "....before displaying form" insert the following: (This will tell the form how to handle the getField function.)
htp.p('<script language="JavaScript1.3">
< !--
function getField(form,fieldName)
var objName = "";
var tmp = "";
var dAction = "";
var sel_idx = 0;
var cnt = 0;
var instance = 0;
var slicedName;
var fillData = new Array();
for (var i = 0; i < form.length; i++)
slicedName = form.elements.name.split(".");
tmp = slicedName[2];
instance = parseInt(slicedName[3],10);
if (!tmp)
continue;
objName = tmp;
if (objName == fieldName)
return form.elements[i].value;
//-->
</script>');
I hope this helps.

Creating a Menu without Photoshop
Hello ~
When I purchased CS5 PrPro I was told that Encore would allow me to create custom menus for DVDs.
I have completed my video project and editing and exported the work from Pro to Encore with success along with several chapter markers that I would like to link from two menu pages. I am using Encore now for the first time.
I have to explain that the package I purchased did not include Photoshop. But Photoshop is referenced all through the instructions as a critical element. (Another heavily referenced program I did not get is Afteraffects.)
Nonetheless, once I had my film complete and tried to create a menu in Encore, it seems that a custom menu cannot be made without Photoshop and all I've got to choose from is templates that have the quality and look to me like a kid's video of "What I Did on my Summer Vacation."
At any rate, what I tried to do is take a jpeg, import it into the Encore library, and place it as the menu. But upon that background, is it at all possible to create links on areas of the screen. For example, can you designate a character or a space on the screen as a "hotspot" to link. How can one import art of one's own choosing as the background for a menu in Encore?
Thanks for taking the time to read all this and any help you folks might have to offer.
~ JeffJeff,
You can create custom Menus in Encore, though having PS makes things much easier, and offers far greater power.
In Encore, start with the Blank Menu of the proper Aspect Ratio for your Project. This brings in a Menu with the proper initial structure, and a black background. You can add images, or Motion Assets (AV files) to that Menu. You can also look through the many hundreds of Buttons, and drag those to the Menu, so while you cannot create custom Buttons, you have tons to choose from. You can also alter the Sort/View in the Library, so that you are only looking at Buttons, though they will be grouped by the various sub-folders in the Library folder hierarchy.
You will be working from pre-made Assets, but can Scale and alter some other attributes as needed. With so many to choose from, you should be able to find something that looks good to you.
Add PS to your suite and you can do almost anything within the DVD-specs. Not sure if Stanley's link covers the links in this ARTICLE, but if not, you will have more resources on the DVD-specs.
Good luck,

Hello all,
In CP 1, I was able to 'easily' (compared to now) create
custom button images in fireworks then import and set their states
(up, down, over, . .). Now, it seems to be a much more tedious
process, and I still haven't got it to work. According to the
documentation - you now have to use .bmps, then save the img states
in a certain naming convention, then save them in a particular
directory! No more browse function for each image state?!?!.
Furthermore, you can only select 1 image - and this 1 image becomes
becomes the image for up, down, over, etc. even though I used the
documented naming convention 'style-preview.bmp',
'style-playbuttonup.bmp', 'style-playbuttondown.bmp'. I must be
missing something - it cannot be this tedious to use your own
custom created buttons. Anyone using their own buttons with up,
down, and over states?? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Thanks very much for this information. I'm now able to create
navigation tabs out of custom buttons. This was much easier than
the design template for tabs on the Captivate Exchange (
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1049 430).
I opened one of Captivate's buttons (.bmp) from the Buttons folder
in the Gallery folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
2\Gallery\Buttons) into Adobe Photoshop, then I modified the
background and font color, saved it back into the button folder
with the naming conventions listed here. I then copied all the
buttons as a group against a background image on every slide. The
over, up, and down states are inherent in the buttons when you use
the naming conventions. I'm sure it will be easy to create the tab
shape to look like navigation tabs.
I found some great samples here:

Custom Buttons In Template Issue - Arrgh!
Hi,
I created a custom button in Photoshop, using the layer method specified in grayscale. I then created a custom template with six of these buttons. Then I imported a movie with embedded chapter indexes. When I drag this movie to an empty menu window and select my custom template for chapter index creation, the individual chapter video frames do not appear in the buttons, even though the text of these chapters do. The mask for the asset is set to white. If I drag an asset to the buttons, everything looks ok. What gives?.I found a solution. I picked an Apple (heh) motion button and created a menu template with that button. Then I dragged my custom shape over each motion button and selected Set Shape. That created the motion buttons with my desired shape. I had to adjust the size and position of the new buttons, but at least it worked. I might also have changed the buttons to drop zones without all this work, but that's for another time.

Hi Gurus,
I want to create some custom buttons on Runtime Prompts (like Add, Remove etc)?
How I create Custom button and associate to the Business Rule?
Thanks & Regards,
Sravan Kumar.Hi,
I explained how it was done in the post, but here we go again.
Go to Administration > manage menus > "WFPMenuNewHires" > Edit > "1.1 AddSalaryTBH"
See the input boxes
Window Title:
OK Button Label:
Cancel Button Label:
You can put your own values in these boxes so when a business rule it opened then the "OK","Cancel" button use the custom values you have entered, so for example you can change the "OK" button to "Add"
Cheers

Is there any way to add/create custom buttons fot the Pages toolbar??
e.g. Iwould like to have a button where I press to execute the Latex thing, going to Services, and transform my latex code into the latex writing.
Another one would be a button to export to PDF.
These are all things that I do lots of times wile I'm writing in Pages.
ThksNo, you can only add the buttons available in 'Customize Toolbar'.
There are third-party programs which can execute any command you like on a keystroke, or in some cases a button in a button bar: the best of these is QuicKeys - it's not cheap, but it is extremely powerful and can be used to automate complex processes: it can easily be used to open anything you want on a specified trigger.
