Creating custom ringtones without GarageBand . . . is it possible?

Is it possible to create a custom (original content) ringtone in a pro app such as Final Cut Pro or Soundtrack pro? I removed the consumer apps - Garage Band, iDVD, iMovie - from my system since they never get used. I can always reinstall if necessary, but I would like to avoid that if possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well here are the instructions for a Windows user. In general, if you have a non DRMed audio file and any software that can edit it down you can do it manually (get it into iTunes as a ringtone). Somebody else posted instructions of how to use iTunes itself to create a edited down file as well (non DRMed file of course). Had to do with editing info about the song (start and end times) then resaving it.
For Windows Users:
Locate the audio you want. It is best if it is in MP3 or WAV as there are far more editors out there for that.
Once you have your file and editor, you will need to edit it down to 30secs or less (just trim it to a section you want as your ringtone).
Save that file as MP3.
Next, open iTunes
Drag that MP3 into iTunes Music List.
Locate that file in the list.
Right click on it and choose Convert to AAC (Apples format)
This will only take a second as it is a short clip.
You should now have that clip listed twice in your list (first one MP3, second one AAC format)
Highlight the first one (may still be hightlighted from your last right click)
Right click it and Delete it (don't need it anymore). You can say don't send to recycle bin if you want to keep it on your PC.
Next right click the other copy (the AAC one) and choose Show in Windows Explorer (or something like that).
That will open your file browse window to the file.
Ok, leave that window open but go back to iTunes
In iTunes right click and delete that clip from the music library (but be sure to say Don't Send to Recycle Bin)
Next go back to the file browse window and locate that clip. Will be named YOURNAME.M4A (note be sure you are showing file extensions).
Cut the File.
Go up One directory (right now you are in a folder named Unknown Artists)
Once you go up one you should see a subfolder named Ringtones. If not, create one.
Go into the Ringtones folder.
Paste your file.
Now Rename your file from .M4A to .M4R
Now drag that file over to iTunes and drag it to the tree on the left and drop it on the branch that says Ringtones.
It should now be in your Ringtones list and can now sync to your phone.
Note, you have to have iTunes 7.5 and your iPhone needs to be running firmware 1.1.2
The parts about removing from your music list first before dragging into Ringtones section are important.

  • Creating a Ringtone in Garageband

    Hi all
I have no idea how to create a ringtone in GarageBand. This guide that Apple says to use:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307108
tells me nothing. I have no idea how to use GarageBand. I try to create a ringtone, and it saves 8 seconds of it and it is not of the part that I thought I was creating. Can someone give step by step easy to use instructions for someone who has no knowledge of GarageBand? Thanks

after importing the song, if the cycle mode is on, you'll see a yellow strip at the top. If you don't see it, I think "c" toggles cycle mode on and off. Set your cycle mode as long as you want (no longer than 40 seconds) move the yellow to whatever part of the song you want as your ringtone and then send to itunes as ringtone. My guess is your cycle is only 8 seconds long.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Brian

  • Bought Iphone need to create custom ringtones

Well, i've read some of the posts before but its not seeming to help... I have garageband 3 and do not have the selection of "sending ringtone to itunes" since i do not have garageband08. So, the problem is that i create my song on garageband and then export it to itunes, then convert it to a AAC file.... but after that im supposed to convert it to a m4r because that would be used for a ringtone.... after i do that it does convert but it doesnt let me put it onto my iphone? what am i doing wrong?

i found a free iphone ringtone application for mac called iring.
its pretty simple to use, you just need to make sure itunes IS NOT running when you convert from AAC when using it. otherwise, it won't add the newly created ringtone to your ringtone folder.

  • How to create a ringtone using GarageBand?

    Hi,
Is there any simple tutorials anywhere explaining how to create a ringtone using an iTunes track or mp3 music file in GarageBand?
I'm in the UK and cannot purchase ringtones from iTunes as yet.
    Thanks in advance! David.

Here are some very simple instructions to create a ringtone in Garage Band. Drag your song(s) in from iTunes or from your CD which has been copied into iTunes. If it is an AAC protected file, Garage Band will disallow making a ringtone and it will tell you so.
    • Cut the song to 30-40 seconds of the section you want.
    • From the drop down menu, choose 'share' (not share with iPhone)
    • Export to disk/desktop. Compress using AAC
•Change the file name from m4a to m4r
    •Drag into iTunes
    Have fun!

  • How to create custom Ringtones (m4r files) from Songs in iTunes

    Jakarta, 14 June 2013
On Mac OS : 10.7.5 (Lion)
    On iTunes : 11.0.4
    Difficulty : intermediate - hard
Assuming you know basic Ctrl+Click and Option+Drag...
Full correct steps should be like this :
    1) Select a favourite song in iTunes program to be made into Ringtone...
    2) "Get Info" on that song name and make any 0:30 seconds portion of that song....
(specify "Start" & "Stop" time - under "Options" – to any 30-seconds duration and click OK)
    3) Right-click or Ctrl-Click again on same song name and select "Create AAC Version" to create an .m4a file...
(when done iTunes will create a Chime)
    4) to locate the created .m4a file easily, Ctrl-Click again on same song name and select "Show in Finder" from the pop-up list...
(iTunes will automatically point the folder location of the original .mp3 & the newly created .m4a files... keep this window open for later...)
    5) change the .m4a file to .m4r as suggested...
(rename to whatever you like but you must change the extension to .m4r)
    6) At this point, the m4r(original) file isn't a "Ringtone" file yet... which we'll need to change now...)
(check under "Get Info" > "Kind" :  it's still "Apple MPEG-4 Audio")
...1st by dragging that newly changed .m4r(ori) file to somewhere out of that same default folder it was created by iTunes...
    { this is where most confusions occur, take note here, it gets rather complicated }
    7) Once it's outside of that folder, Double Click the m4r(ori) file and iTunes will play...
(u can stop it immediately...) this is just to let iTunes automatically convert that m4r(ori) file into a new duplicate & places it inside the initial default folder where the original .mp3 file is kept... we kept the window open previously, remember?
    8) Locate that duplicate .m4r(new & true) file, in that same .mp3 folder and now DUPLICATE-Drag (press Option while dragging to get the "+" sign) it to the "TONES" folder in your default apple folder structure. (check under "Get Info", this .m4r(new) File's "Kind" should be "Ringtone")
//to get to that "TONES" Folder : First Locate your iTunes default Music Folder in your Mac --> usually it's in your Default "MUSIC" folder --> Navigate to "iTunes Media"  --> Navigate to "Tones". !! Keep this window open to make the transfer manually !!
    9) Once your duplicate is placed inside the "Tones" folder, double-click on that duplicate .m4r(true) file and let iTunes play, it should automatically place that ringtone file into the "Ringtone" sidebar List in the iTunes program... (check program to see)
Somehow u needed both duplicates : 1 – inside the default initial .mp3 folder & 1 – inside the Tones Folder which we Duplicate+Drag into... and both must be "Ringtone" – Kind... for this to work.
    10) There you go. Now you can Sync / Delete / Add the whole Ringtone contents to your iPhone as you wish.
//Don't forget to set SYNC ON under the iphone  "Tones" tab in your iTunes - iPhone screen... and click big SYNC button at the bottom of iTunes program & wait for the magic.
( Finally you can check inside your iPhone "Sounds" settings and hopefully if all steps done correctly, the bloodycomplicatedringtone selection will be there. Enjoy!

    Hi --
I'm using iTunes 11.0.4 on OSX 10.8.4 and am having a hard time following your instructions to create a ringtone from a snippet of a .mp3 file using iTunes:
    1) Select a favourite song in iTunes program to be made into Ringtone... CHECK!
    2) "Get Info" on that song name and make any 0:30 seconds portion of that song.... CHECK !
    3) Right-click or Ctrl-Click again on same song name and select "Create AAC Version" to create an .m4a file... PROBLEM!
It's when I hit Step 3 that I have a problem -- my "right click menu" at that point looks like this:
There's no option to "create AAC version." Nor does this option appear anywhere in iTunes that I can find.
It really shouldn't be this confusing to create a freaking ringtone. HELP PLEASE!

I Have set  Billing relevance "F" in the parameter of item categary  of third party which help me in updating the status of sales order as completed as soon as first invoice gets created.
but this Billing relevance 'F' only supports to create customer invoice only when invocie receipt(MIRO)
is created then only we can create the customer invoice.
My requirement is to create the customer invoice on the basis of MIGO quanity not on the MIRO quantity.
And sales order Status should be completed as soon as the invoice gets
    created.
Because MIRO will be created in future date.
Whenever i try to create customer invocie after MIGO it throws as error that " Order is not relevant for billing"
In other words it asks me to create MIRO document. As soon as i create MIRO document  , system will allow me to create customer invocie.
    Please help me in this.
I want to create customer invoice after MIGO and before MIRO in case of third party while billing relevance is u2018Fu2019 in  item category.

  • Can I create a ringtone in GarageBand

    Hi there,
I have a song in GarageBand 2 that I'd like to use it as a ringtone in a couple of cell phones. The cell phone models are Motorola V400 and Sony Erickson T290a. The Motorola can play polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, the Sony Erickson only polyphonic.
Does anybody know if I can convert my song to a ringtone for those phones? If it is possible, how do I do that? How do I transfer from my Mac to the cell phones?
    Thanks for your help.

You probably already found your answer, but my brother-in-law and I just figured this out the other night. We initially looked on this discussion board and found nothing, so I'll attempt to paste our solution on several boards.
The steps may look long, however, after you do this once it's so easy...
    (1) Find the song you want as your ringtone and drag it into GarageBand. (If the song is a purchaed iTunes song it will be protected and this won't be possible. There is various software to remove the protection, but I have yet to use it).
    (2) Cut the song down to a 10 - 45 second clip within GarageBand.
    (3) Send the song back to iTunes (using the Share menu). The song will then most likely show up in a new playlist with your name as the artist.
    (4) Convert the song to a mp3. You will most likely need to first go into iTunes preferences and select the Advanced setting. Then change the import (yes import even though you'll export) option to mp3. Then go under the Advanced menu and select convert to mp3. Now you'll have a duplicate song, but this one will be an mp3. Use Info (Apple "I") to verify which is which.
    (5) Drag your new mp3 10 - 45 second mp3 to your desktop.
Now you'll send your mp3 mobile phone via bluetooth.
    (6) Go into System Preferences and select Bluetooth. Then go into your phone and setup your bluetooth (if you haven't done this before it can be tricky because there are so many different phone types - however you'll basically need to go into your phone setting and send your signal to your Mac). The process is very similiar to setting up a bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Follow the onscreen prompts and you'll likely be asked to enter a computer generated number into your phone to verify you want to connect.
    (7) Once connected you should then go into File Sharing and turn it on (within the Bluetooth menu).
    (8) You're almost done. Now open Bluetooth File Exchange (within Applications - Utilities) and select send a file. Select the mp3 file (or photo or video) on your desktop and send it. Lastly, you'll most likely have to Accept the incoming file on your phone.
    (9) Once the transfer is complete (1 - 3 minutes) you should have a new self-created ringtone!
Let me know if this worked!

  • How do I create custom ringtones from mp3 files in itunes 11?

I've upgraded to the iPhone 5 from Blackberry, and I have several custom mp3 ringtones I would like to assign... and can't.  How do I do this in iTunes 11?

You would have sorted it out by now.
    Anyway,
    1. Go to EDIT =>REFFERENCE
    2. Under General, tick TONES, then you will be able to see TONES folder...
To create ring tone from mp3.
    1. Make sure your mp3 file playback duration is about 30 sec or less.
    2. Add it to your library as you do with music.
    3. Under MUSIC folder, select SONGS
    4. Find the mp3 file you want for ringtone, right click it and find CREATE AAC VERSION
    5. OPEN window explorer, browse to MY DOCUMENTS/MY MUSICS (XP) or Library/my music (Win 7), there should be iTunes folder in there, find the mp3 file... and change the file extension from [.m4a] into [.m4r]
    6. Back to iTunes, add [filename.m4r]
Now you should have rinetone under TONES folder in  your iTunes.

  • Can't find custom ringtone on phone!

    Hello,
I created a ringtone in Garageband, "shared" it as a ringtone to itunes, synced to phone, see this ringtone under "ringtones" on the iphone in itunes when the phone is connected, but cannot find it or use it on the actual phone.
I have tried several times by re-syncing but no luck. All I see are the original ringtones that came with the phone.
    Help please
    Thx

It IS in my itunes as a ringtone but will not sync to phone. I cannot drag and drop either but can with songs.
When I click on the phone device in itunes and get the tabs on the top, I go to ringtones. If I check the sync ringtones box a window opens stating that if I do sync ringtones all of my music and videos on the phone will be removed. Why is this? I did it with my wife's phone because she only had a couple songs on hers but I do not want to wipe all of my songs off. Is this the only way? I don't even need the ringtone on my phone but I am trying to figure out what to do so i can do it on my wife's phone.
Highlight the file in iTunes and open "get info" by cmd+click or right click>>get info.
Make sure that the extension of the file is .m4r
Since you are not able to drag it out of iTunes on your desktop, it tells me that the extension could be something else other than what it should be i.e. .m4r. Also, hence, when you try to add it to your iPhone the file is being treated as a music file thereby trying to replace what you have in your music section of your iPhone.
If the file extension is not .m4r, this is what you need to do -
    1. Locate the file on your macintosh hard drive for this -
    2. Click your finder>>music>>iTunes>>iTunes music and then look for a folder called Unknown.
Note - If your iTunes library is not "clean" with random songs without artists, albums, etc. you might have more than one folders by name "Unknown" or some variant of it. So look around and locate the file on the hard drive.
    3. Drag it out on your desktop
    4. Right click and change the extension to .m4r
    5. Save and double click so that it gets imported back into iTunes and starts playing too on your mac
    6. You will find it under Ringtones. Sync in back on your iPhone.
Hopefully it will go well for you this time around.

  • Create Contact Type in Create Customer contact screen of collections mgt

    Hi All,
Can anyone please let me know if its possible to create a new contact type ( Currently we have four default types (Outbound call / Inbound Call / Visit to Customer / Visit from Customer) in the FSCM collections management, in the create customer contact screen.
If its possible to create a new contact type, please let me know where to do that.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks
    Krishna

You can add new contact types in the customizing table UDMV_CCT_TYPE.
With this you would be able to select the contact types you have
    defined.
Please note that you can create entries in this table only with the
customer namespace i.e. prefix 'Z' to the contact type that you choose.
e.g. if you want to create a new entry in contact type say 'TEST' then
the entry in the customizing table should be as below:
Contact type | Name of contact type
    Z03 | TEST
Another point to note here would be that for each entry that you create
in this table, the system displays 2 entries (1 for Inbound and 1 for
Outbound) in the contact type dropdown on the customer contact screen in the collection management system. This is as per the standard design
    and it cant overridden.
    Thanks

  • Custom Ringtone Sound Quality

I just got my iphone a couple of days ago, and I love having ringtones!
I read that you would have to spend money on itunes to buy a song and create a ringtone, but as a poor college student I tried to find ways to create my own custom ringtones and sync them to my iphone.
Fortunately I have found a very easy and simple way of creating custom ringtones, and in fact it works!
However, the sound quality of the ringtones coming out through the speakers is not very good. (especially the bass - i like a lot of rap and r&B)
Is there any way to fix this?
(of course when I receive a call through my headphones, the quality is fine)

Congrats on finding out how to make your own (I do as well and I know a lot of people do).
As for sound quality of speaker. Well you sort of have to remember, the speaker on the phone isn't meant for music playback. It is there for the phone. It is designed for voice levels and pitches. Not for musical playback. While yes one can play music through it (or musical ringtones), the quality will suffer. The musical side of the phone (iPod) is meant to be listened to via headphones or attached external speaker system (like every other iPod).
So in the end, not much you can do to make it sound better.

  • Is there a way to create custom instrument icons in GarageBand '09?

    Hello everyone!
I am just curious if any of you might know a way to create custom instrument/track icons in GarageBand (I show an example of what I mean below)? For instance, Let's say one of the guitar tracks I've recorded was done with a Flying V and I'd like to reflect that in the instrument icon. Is that possible? If so, I'd love to know how I know it's nothing mega-important, and doesn't affect my recordings in any way, but is a great visual cue as to what that track might contain. Apple has given us some great default choices but it would be nice if we could use some of our own PNG files for this purpose too!
Thanks for any info you may have, and have a great weekend!

Dude thank you SO much for this! I searched and search and found no help at all, so this is an awesome find. The funny thing is I posted this question and got so busy with life in general that I had forgotten about it until just now when I fired up GarageBand LOL. Then I remembered asking this question and checked in. So glad I did because you totally hooked me up!
    THANKS AGAIN!!
