Creating Dreamweaver templates in fireworks

Hello there,
I have just created a image in fireworks CS3 that i would
like to use as the basic template in a website. Now i dont want it
to simply be set as a background on the site, i am trying to put it
into dreamweaver so that i can edit on top of the template. So i
can put text in, hyperlinks, tables images etc. As it stands, i am
farely new to fireworks and dreamweaver, as you can probably tell.
If this fireworks is the wrong peice of software for creating
templates to be used in dreamweaver, could you please recomommend a
peice of software i should use instead.
Thanks a lot

Use Dreamweaver, of course.
Fireworks is a graphics program. It is not designed to
produce robust HTML, much less templates for Dreamweaver.
Fireworks' HTML is for mockup/prototype use only. Use Fireworks to
create your mockups, then your Web site graphics.
Dreamweaver is a heavy-duty Web site design, development, and
production program. Use Dreamweaver to build an HTML page based on
your Fireworks image, then use Dreamweaver's Save as Template
command, making sure to mark areas where you want to be able to
enter/edit content. After that, you can create new pages using your
template.
Good luck!

  • NEW! Free Dreamweaver templates WITH Fireworks vector files

I just released some free Dreamweaver templates that include
not only the Dreamweaver template dwt file, but also the original
pre-sliced Fireworks file with all the template graphics.
The templates include the dwt, Fireworks file, pure CSS
menus, are AdSense-ready, XHTML 1.0 valid and are very customizable
through both the Fireworks file and the CSS.
If you use one, let me know so I can get a screenshot and
post a link to your site showing how the templates have been
    customized by various designers.
    Cheers!

Can you post a link to the PHP page, please? This will allow
    me to see the
    HTML markup on it....

  • How to create a template and child pages using mockup designed in Fireworks

I have created a website in Fireworks, and exported it to use in Dreamweaver.  How do I use the Master page in Fireworks as my template page in Dreamweaver?  When I bring in the .htm files from fireworks, it tries to bring in the entire page.  I have taken 25 hours of online training for Fireworks and Dreamweaver through Lynda.com, but there is not a specific video that tells you how to get your website from Fireworks into Dreamweaver if you want to utilize the Template and child page features.

Use Fireworks to crop, slice and optimize images only.  DO NOT allow any graphics app to generate your HTML code for you.  This results in poorly formed code and rigid layouts that invariably fall apart when you attempt to edit them in DW.  Fireworks / Photoshop generated pages are for quick prototypes or design comps to show the client.  They do not work well on production sites.

Unfortunately, this is not a web page.  It is a design comp exported from Fireworks.  This code is not good enough for use on real web sites.
You need to de-construct your design comp images in Fireworks.  Optimize and save images only to your DW Local Site Folder.  Then re-assemble everything inside a pre-built CSS Layout in DW.

  • Inserting Fireworks HTML into a Dreamweaver template

I've created a dreamweaver cs3 template for my website. I've
also created a menu in fireworks which has popup menu's. If I
create a new page (not from a template) and insert the fireworks
html, everything works fine when I try to preview it.
However, if I insert the fireworks html into a page created
from a template, or even the original template file, the image of
the menu is inserted and can be viewed, but the popup menu's do not
    appear. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Which version of FW? If FWMX 2004 or earlier, you would need
    to read this
    carefully -

  • Can't add spry widget to page created from dreamweaver template

Please help! I have created a template in Dreamweaver and
from that template I have created an html page. I want to add
different tabbed and/or accordion spry widgets to multiple pages
however I keep getting an error when I try to add a widget to an

not want the same widget on all pages created from that template.
    Please advise!
    Thanks

If that's all that's on the child page you are in trouble.
Anyhow, it appears to me that the template has not been
    properly created
since I do not also see an editable region around the
    <title> tag in your
code. Please read my previous post and follow the
    instructions.

  • I was wondering how to use Dreamweaver to create joomla template? Any ideas or useful resources.

I am embarking on a new project to create a joomla template. I need your ideas on how to use Dreamweaver to create the template. TQ

It's pretty much the same procedure with all your open source CMSs (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla!...)

  • What about sites NOT created with Dreamweaver templates

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 (no templates), and code most everything by hand (html, javascript and CSS). Would it work to have people in my office adding content to these existing sites with Contribute CS5 since there are NO Dreamweaver templates in place?

Html webpages are editable in Contribute.

  • Need Help Reslicing Photoshop Site Layout to Update Dreamweaver Template

I created a website in adobe photoshop cs3 and sliced it up
to created an html file with sliced images. My main navigation menu
    is made up of graphics.
I brought it into dreamweaver and created editable regions,
created rollovers etc. Then I created a dreamweaver template from
that to create the rest of the web pages for my site.
The client has come back to me and wants to add more menu
options to the site. This is where I'm stuck! When I use photoshop
to make more menu slices, it renumbers them. How do I export the
new slices with the new layout so I can use them to update my
dreamweaver template. How can I get those new slices/html layout to
the dreamweaver template without losing all the work I have done on
    my current dreamweaver template?
    issuenite

    > Why does photohshop even provided a slicing feature if
    it does not provide
    > good code?
The slicing is not the problem. It's the export as HTML that
    is the
problem. And you'd have to ask Adobe that question if you
    want an answer.
We are all just volunteer peers here.
    > What is better about Fireworks? I have the program but
    have never used
    > it.
    FW HTML is no better.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/why_fireworks.html
At any rate, read this -
    http://apptools.com/rants/spans.php
    - and then look
at your code and count colspan, and rowspan attributes.
    Unfortunately, the
only way to avoid this mess is to learn enough HTML/CSS that
    you can build
your own tables in DW, and do it in such a way that you don't
    rely on
merging and splitting cells (which is what generates those
    colspan and
    rowspan attributes).
Again, unfortunately, you are REALLY stuck in a bad
    situation. Since you
have a) used a completely graphic menu button array, and b)
    used a graphic
background behind the menu buttons, and c) chosen to embed
    that graphic
background in each sliced button, you cannot add new buttons
    without
remaking the entire menu. You will only make that mistake
    once. I never
start building menus until I have an approved site plan in
    hand. By the
way, that's a nice looking layout.
I don't see any clear path to salvation here. Since you are
    absolutely tied
to PS for exporting the HTML and slices, you will have to
    recreate
    everything, I believe.

  • Dreamweaver Template Without Dreamweaver

    Hi.
I'm doing an internship for the semester and the place i work is having me redesign their intranet.  I'll be gone in December, and while no immediate changes will really need to be made, over time they will probably want to do something such as adding a link in the side menu...
The problem is, I don't think they use Dreamweaver--if they're using another web design program, is it possible for them to edit the dreamweaver template I've created for them?
    Thanks.

Another approach is to use Server-Side Includes (text files) that contain hyperlinks, common headers & footers for example.   Person responsible for updates could edit the SSI files in any html editor.  Upload to server and the server would populate changes throughout the site.

    <!-- #BeginTemplate "/Templates/test.dwt" -->
Each time I edit a page to add php code in the very first
line, it is removed with every template update and the source code
again starts with the dreamweaver comment. I need to add to all my
pages a php code in the very first line like this one:
    <? $ob_start; $session_start; ?>
How can I do that without removing the code from my pages
with each template update. Another problem is that I can't insert a
placeholder in the very first line of a dreamweaver template. Above
that the first line is locked in dreamweaver, so that I can't
change it manually. Is there any workaround available?
    Thanks,
    Philip

Put the code ABOVE the <html> tag.
Which DW are you using? It looks like DW4 or earlier....

  • Dreamweaver Templates with Web Gallery

I have built a site in dreamweaver CS4 I have used a Dreamweaver Template for my pages. Rather than clog my pages up with images I used Adobe Bridge to create a web gallery, It created a gallery ok and I saved it to my hard drive. It created two items, a resourses folder and an "index" file. So I I copied and pasted the two items into my Dreamweaver folder I created and called SS_Bridge. I pointed a link I created to point to the "index" file within the SS_Bridge Folder in Dreamweaver, Will this create a problem as there will be two "Index" files within my site
    jjrutter

The "home" page index file would be at the root level of the site.  Other folders within the root can all have their own index (default) files.

  • Pages created by Template view and preview Ok - Except when linked on page

I created a template in DW. The template contains a background image and an editable region. I made some pages using the template / updated my pages and saved them as html. I have worked with templates before.
Here is the problem. I can open, view the html files in DW that I applied the template to, they look normal. I can preview the files in IE.
If I click a link in lets say the index file, to another lets cay contact.html file that I applied the template to, it only loads the editable region and  I don't see the template applied. If I pull up the file, say contact.html in DW the template is applied and if I preview  it the page displays. No background image or dropdown includes are on the page and the template is not applied for some reeason in preview when linking from a hotspot. The path is correct.
I tried this several times and still no luck. I even uplopaded to the web and the same thing is happening.
Please advise as to what I should look at? I can direct you to an example if need be. -
    Dreamweaver MX user.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Here is the code of an html file in which the region is editable. The template has been applied to this page and is one of the pages that is having a problem.
I will need to look further into your last response, although it makes perfect sense to a webmaster like yourself, it only makes partial sense to me but I do undertand the point. I will look into that furher, thank you for your response.
When looking at the code, my Background image was repeating and I do not want it to. I edited some of the code and although, it does not look clean, it does work. Maybe this is part of the problem.
In this example, I did get the background to work, not sure how, but my includes and a image over the background with the hotspots are not wodking.

  • DreamWeaver Template change not updating children webpages?

    Hi Group,
Sorry for my newbie question here.
I loaded an HTML webpage, and saved it out as a DreamWeaver Template file.
I then created webpages from the template file (( File - New - Page From Template - Site - Template), and made sure that the "Update Page when Template Changes" check box was selected/checked.
I then created several chldren webpages, and saved them as .html files.
I decided to change the navbar system - part of the uneditiabel region in the template - by opening the template file and edit-ing that file, and then saving it as the same DreamWeaver template file.
However, the webpages did Not Update to reflect the navbar changes in the template fle !??!???
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I believe it is something that I'm doing incorrectly with DreamWeaver ..
Here is the HTML if anyone is interested.

    Additional Info:
No -I haven't been able to get the DW Template feature to work on other sites - this is my first application of it to a website (actually it's the whole reason for getting DreamWeaver... I know it works, I know that I'm doing something wrong.. I just don't know what it is...)
All the .HTML files (index.html, cad.html, cam.html, etc. etc.)  are in the website's root directory.
The Template file is in its own sub-directory folder named "Templates".
Right now even the .css file is in the root directory....
Thank You for trying to help me -  I greatly appreciate it.

  • Everytime i create a template it recks my menu bar!

I created a css style sheet that would help me edit some things on my template that i have. I attached the css sheet to my template and have put not one thing in my style sheet yet. I was working with controlling the shape of my box on the div tags on the template. Then i notice that when i previewed my template in explorer my drop down menu bar at the top of the page was messed up. It move the drop down menu bar from horizontal to vertical. The background shading of the menu bar is still horizontal. I deleted my template1.dwt file and started over and created a new template from a HTML file that i used to make the template in the first place. It did the same thing as soon as dreamweaver moved the template file to the template folder. So i deleted the css style sheet that i create to try to controll the div tags and that did not work. So i created a new template file called Testtemplate.dwt and it works fine when it is under my html folder in my site. As soon as i go to template menu and create a template from this testtemplate.dwt file and it move it to the template folder it messes up the menu bar again. So i deleted the Templates folder in my site and started over. I created my fist template and named it template1.dwt and it recreated the Templates folder again and low and behold it is still messed up. It is like there is some sort of css or file controlling the Template folder and messing up the menu bar but i am new to dreamweaver and dont know where to look to stop this from happning. All the files or HTML pages attached to this template work fine but i am scared to update any content from this template as it may mess up all my HTML pages that use this template. Any help would be great!

    Hello,
This is Jason with Mindspark Interactive Network Customer Support.
I have reviewed your system details and it appears as though you do not have the My Web Search toolbar installed.
I believe your issue stems from your search queries being redirected.
To resolve this first I would like you to click the down arrow of the search box in the upper right hand corner. Confirm here that My Web Search has not been set as your default search. If it was your default search simply click Google in the drop down menu.
If this does not resolve your issue it may be because your browsers search settings were not reset when you uninstalled the My Web Search toolbar.
