Creating drop shadow on semi transparent bug

I have to put a client's logo on the bottom right of the screen. I have appliyed the keying effect on it to make the rectangle frame dissapear so that only the logo appears. However, I would need to surround it with a thin black line or shadow so that it doesn't disappear over certain backgrounds. Ho do I achieve that (the inspector doesn't provide any ''drop shadow'' effect for that clip as it would if it were a title) ?

If you have FCPX 10.0.6 or later, in the Effects browser > Stylize, you should find a Drop Shadow effect you can add to the watermark clip.

  • What to do, what to do...InDesign - Drop shadow adds semi-transparent box in PDF

I am having an issue when I add a drop shadow to an object. It looks fine in the InDesign file, but once I export it to PDF (high res - (low res looks fine)), around the object yes there is the shadow, but also there is a semi transparent box. I don't know how to remove that. I've been looking at the preferences but don't understand why that happens. I printed it out and the box comes out. Please Help!!! Thanks

  • How can I create drop shadows with PSE10

How can I create drop shadows with PSE10 & PE10?

Layer styles let you quickly apply effects to an entire layer. In the Effects panel, you can view a variety of predefined layer styles and apply a style with just a click of the mouse.
Three different layer styles applied to text
The boundaries of the effect are automatically updated when you edit that layer. For example, if you apply a drop shadow style to a text layer, the shadow changes automatically when you edit the text.
Layer styles are cumulative, which means that you can create a complex effect by applying multiple styles to a layer. You can apply one style from each style library per layer. You can also change a layer’s style settings to adjust the final result.
When you apply a style to a layer, a style icon appears to the right of the layer’s name in the Layers panel. Layer styles are linked to the layer contents. When you move or edit the contents of the layer, the effects are modified correspondingly.
Once you choose Layer > Layer Style > Style Settings, you can edit the settings of a layer’s style or apply other style settings or attributes available in the dialog box.
Lighting Angle Specifies the lighting angle at which the effect is applied to the layer.
    Drop Shadow
Specifies the distance of a drop shadow from the layer’s content. You can also set the size and opacity with the sliders.
Outer Glow Size Specifies the size of a glow that emanates from the outside edges of the layer’s content. You can also set the opacity with the slider.
Inner Glow Size Specifies the size of a glow that emanates from the inside edges of the layer’s content. You can also set the opacity with the slider.
Bevel Size Specifies the size of beveling along the inside edges of the layer’s content.
Bevel Direction Specifies the direction of the bevel, either up or down.
Stroke Size Specifies the size of the stroke.
Stroke Opacity Specifies the opacity of the stroke.

  • Creating Drop Shadow

It seems like creating a simple drop shadow would be an easy
task but I've tried with no luck. I've looked at all of the help
and followed the directions in help. I have a jpg (a photo) and
want to place a drop shadow on the bottom and right side. I've
selected the image and clicked on Effects in the Properties box and
selected Drop Shadow from the Shadow and Glow menu. The Distance is
set at 7, the color is black, Opacity is 65%, Softness is 4, and
the Angle is 315. I click out of the box, the Effects show a check
mark and Drop Shadow but there's no shadow. What am I missing here?
Selecting Preview just shows the image without the shadow.

Once you have applied your drop shadow, click outside your
    image and in the
Property Inspector click 'Fit Canvas', that should do it.

  • How to create drop shadow preset?

I have now spent an entire day searching and trying to create a preset for fcpx. On most of the effects I use, i have the option to save as a preset. BUT with the drop shadow effect, I doesn't.
On the instructions in the help section for editing a FCPX effect, it claims you need to either right click or control click the effect in the media browser, and then select "open a copy in motion". This works on any effect BUT Drop shadow! lol.
So I then with my limited knowledge of Motion 5, tried to create a FCPX effect on my own. I created a new FCPX Effect, Then in the HUD I applied the drop shadow with the settings I needed, and saved it. Then in FCPX I applied it to the track, but nothing happened. I am lost, and need help. I ahve to apply a drop shadow with 50% opacity, and 30% for blur to over 600 clips in over a month. I can't do it manually and then adjust the parameters manually for each one. PLEASE HELP!
    Chris

The Drop Shadow is actually coded with FXPlug, it is not a straigth Motion template.  Any effect or template that is coded can't be opened in Motion.
When you create your own, you need to publish the parameters you need access to.
I think what you need to look at is the Paste Attributes function.  Select a clip in your Timeline that you've applied the Drop Shadow to and have tweaked it.  Command-C to copy it.  Select all the other clips at once, in the Edit menu select "Paste Attributes", then specify only the Drop Shadow effect.  Poof, done.

  • Drop shadow causing object transparency

I'm applying a drop shadow to a photograph. The image seems to get less opaque when I apply the object style. No other effect is applied. Am I losing my mind? For budget issues, I have to use 2 color pages, so the image is grayscale and I'm losing the contrast I need.
    Help

When I view greyscale TIFFs in Photoshop, they always looks the same regardless of what Profile I select or what Profile the TIFF was previously saved with. (With exception to some profiles that I assume are related to film).
Where are you changing the profile? If the file has a profile assigned then changing the Working Gray space in Color Settings would have no effect because the assignment overrides the working space. If there is an assignment you have to use Edit>Assign Profiles... (not Edit>Convert to Profile...) to change the assignment and see the preview change.
If there's no assignment changing the Working Gray Space will adjust the preview. Here the difference between 10% Dot Gain and 2.2 Gamma is clear:

  • Compton + Dwm: Shadow as semi-transparent border?

    Hi!
    http://i.imgur.com/XQME18jl.png
I ran into this image while derping on the internet and I've been trying to get borders/shadows like in that picture for a some time. I know that this is achieved using Compton and Dwm, but I can't find a way how to do that.
You can find more images with those borders from Desktop Threads from 4chan.

    In compton:
    "-c" argument for shadow.
    "-e" argument for border opacity.
    In "config.h" (of dwm):
"normbordercolor" and "selbordercolor" for border color.
    "borderpx" for border size.

  • Transparency - Drop Shadow Effect

I'm operating Photoshop 7.0.1 on Windows XT.
I can't seem to figure out how to preserve the transparency in a picture when I add a drop shadow effect.
    1. Increased the canvas size to allow for the drop shadow
    2. Selected and cut the extended canvas area (to be transparent)
    3. Selected the image and created a new layer
    4. Added the drop shadow effect to the image layer
    5. At this point the image appears to have a drop shadow on a transparent canvas; but that is not the case.
I'll be placing the graphic in Pagemaker. Any tips would be appreciated!
    Deb

In order for Pagemaker 7 to simulate transparency, you need to save
your image in Photoshop with a clipping path.
This means that you need to select the part of the image you want to see using the selection or pen tools, and then define the selection
    as a clipping path.
Assuming you have an image ready to be saved for Pagemaker, try the
    following procedure.
Select the part of the image you want to see in Pagemaker.
Open the Paths pallet and select "Make Work Path" from the pallet menu.
Open the Paths menu again and this time select "Save Path".
Go to the Paths menu again and this time select "Clipping Path" from the pallet menu. When asked, select the name of the Path you had previously saved.
Save the image as a Tiff file.
Now when you place the image on a coloured or textured background in
Pagemaker, it should only display the part of the image you selected in Photoshop. The clipping path you created in Photoshop will hide the unwanted background of the image.
    Hope this helps

  • Drop shadows, pages etc.

    1. Can you create drop shadows for text from within Encore? I don't see an option for that in the character panel.
    2. How do I create a second page for my chapters? When I tried to do this it took my text from the main menu with it.
    3. How do I delete a page?
    4. How do I import a still image to put on the menu as just part of the picture without making it a menu or button item?
Thanks for all your help with these several questions. This is my first project since coming over from DVD Studio Pro to Premiere CS6.

Encore has quite a few menu editing functions built in, but I much prefer to select the menu and use "Edit in Photoshop."

  • Trouble with Drop Shadow in "Web" Documents

Long ago I edited my <Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings\New Document Profiles> to add my copyright metadata and a few other things. I could swear that the Drop Shadow effect worked in all of the document types at that time.<br /><br />Now for some reason if I create a "for Web" document (RGB), I can add the Drop Shadow effect, but it isn't visible as far as I can tell. All of the other document types (e.g. "for Print") allow me to create drop shadows.<br /><br />Anyone have a clue what's going on here?

Interesting. Drop shadow effect works in all versions I tested (not well as
a .gif but it was visible)
So I added copyright data (I don't know what a few other things are) and it
still works fine in all document types.
I would suggest restoring to the defaults, get the drop shadow to work
again, then ad one thing back to your profilse at a time and see which thing
    breaks it.

  • Drop shadow on eps shape produces fine line when inserted into InDesign and PDF created.

Hi I am having a few issues with an eps file that I have created. Basically it is a eps file with shapes, a gradient and a drop shadow on the outlined text - created in illustrator.
All looks fine until I take it into Indesign and create a pdf. I then get a line around where the drop shadow is. Zooming in doesn’t make it go away, but it also does not change its size.
I have done some research and tried one fix (have the drop shadow as another object using multiply as the opacity) this did not work.
Anything else talks of spot colours (there are none) or just having view ok on the screen (take off smoothing). But none of these are fixes for when I send this image to my client. I also tried saving as different pdf formats but this also does not work.
The only way I can make it go away is to save the file as an illustrator ai file and use that for pdfs. This would be OK, but other suppliers need to use the file and want eps format.
From what I have read, it seems to be a screen artefact and so theoretically should not appear when printed. But I do not know this for sure and I hesitate to send it to the client as it is.
Has anyone seen this before? And are there any fixes (e.g.: treating the drop shadow differently)?
    Thanking you in advance.
    Cheers
    Nikola

EPS is simply unsuitable when dealing with transparency (which is what your drop shadow is). So you need to work with AI for placing in InDesign. If other suppliers need EPS, then just send them that. Nothing should keep you from exporting another file format.

  • Copy/Paste graphic w/drop shadow to indesign - loses transparency

See above image.. I made a vector version of our company logo in illustrator (all programs referenced are cs5 btw) and it looks great, but when I copy and paste from Illustrator to InDesign, it loses the transparency around the logo. If I place the logo instead, it works fine. The trouble is there are about 16 variations of the logo, and its MUCH easier to copy/paste from one aggregate file instead of having many different logo files to place.
Background on how the logo was created: The inner circle area is multiple different gradient layers (some with transparency masks as well). The white line around the outside is an expanded stroke, and it had a drop shadow effect applied (Stylize menu), which I expanded so it would scale properly when scaling the logo up and down. Here is a link to download the logo: download logo
Q: Is there any way to make InDesign preserve the transparency when I copy and paste?
Would be eternally grateful if someone has a solution that allows me to copy/paste!

I agree with Bob's suggestion to use separate "layer groups" in your logo file for different styles. I also use separate layers inside InDesign to "multi-purpose" company documents with different backgrounds, graphics, and content. But that's the only way I use layers inside InDesign – Not for general placement of image files! I also disagree with ability to copy and paste graphics from Illustrator with drop shadow. Here's an .ai logo which I quickly added Drop Shadow to in Illustrator CS4, and then a Copy and Paste into InDesign CS4 document. Best workflow practice is to 'Place' image files as Bob suggests, linking them from a separate file folder.
For something "quick and dirty" I see no problem with Copy and Paste, but your success may vary based on OS, and CS versions you are using!  Sometimes it is wiser to take a few shortcuts to hit rather than miss that deadline!
