Creating DVD Data Disc to Share HD Video Files

Hi All,
I have a MacBook Pro and have created HD Videos using iMovie 09.  I need to send the HD Video files to a company in India for them to be able to access and utilize the files.  These are the parameters that they have sent me:
Format : PAL. 720 x 576. HD.
You can send the content on DVD as a .mov file ( data DVD).
I am a bit confused as to what is the best method of doing this.  I have Toast 10 Titanium, but not sure which route to go with it.  They sell a plug in to make HD DVD/Blu Ray Disc, but from what I understand, those discs can only be played on a Blu Ray player.  I need the data to be readable by the party in India to download, edit, etc.
Newbie here!!  Can anyone give me advice?
Thanks

QUOTE: "You can send the content on DVD as a .mov file ( data DVD)"
They are telling you to send the movie as a Quicktime .mov file. So, as long as your iMovie file has been formated to be in PAL format at 720 x 576 HD. Then all you need to do is drop the movie file you created in iMovie into the DVD folder and burn it  (The file size has to be 4.5GB max)
In your case, I guess you would use Titanium to burn a data DVD.

  • Select multiple playlists for burning to DVD Data disc?

Hi, i need to burn about 5 playlists to a DVD Data Disc for temp backup, iTunes only is allowing me to select one playlist at a time. Of corse one play list is about 300 meg and this is totally wasteful of a DVD.
Anyone know how to burn multiple playlists to a single disc? maybe some other app can read iTunes's playlists and provide burning?
I want each playlist to create a self titled folder on disc with the tunes in each.
    Thanks

    Hi man, good idea.
Unfortunately, in iTunes, the "Burn Data Disc" button disappears when the folder is selected, in addition to the burn menu item. The burn button reappears when a single playlist inside the folder is selected, unfortunately again, more than one playlist cannot be selected.
It does appear iTunes can burn only 1 single playlist to a disc or the entire library and nothing in between which is very problematic for me right now.
Sadly the "Back Up to Disc" option in the File menu provides the following options :
"Back Up entire iTunes library and playlist"
"Back Up only iTunes Store purchases"
This appears also to be useless.
Toast 8 won't import exported iTunes XML playlists either and just burn the tracks in each playlist to a folder on the disk.
Suppose we need "iTunes Pro" to do something simple as I require :-((

  • Burning DVD data discs?

When I insert a blank CD-R in my Superdrive(tm), the blank disk appears on my desktop, making it easy to drag and drop files to it to be burned.
Blank DVD+R discs don't show up on my desktop, however. Is that by design? I'm guessing I could still burn a DVD data disc by using a burn folder, correct? Is there a better way?
I know the disks I'm using are compatible with the Superdrive because I've successfully burned DVD movies to those disks using iDVD.
    Thanks.

It is possible that when you insert a blank DVD, it is set to open up in a specific application (maybe iDVD). Open up system preferences, click on "CD & DVDs" and make sure that the category "When you insert a blank DVD", the drop down menu is on "Ask what to do" so that you have the option of opening it in the finder.

  • IMac 20 will not read DVD data disc

Today I tried to copy a DVD data disc and the iMac opened the finder Cue window to ask if I want to open the untitled CD. It was a DVD with 3+ GB of data. Funny, but the same disc opens on the PowerBook G4 17" just fine... has anyone else have this problem and have found a fix?
    Thanks
    Greg

If the drive can read a movie DVD then the problem must be that the OS DVD is either dirty or badly scratched. Look at the shiny side. If it has finger prints clean it with a lint free cloth. If it has scratches you can call Apple for a replacement disc for a nominal charge.

  • DVD Data discs music backup- Best way to reinstall?

I'm trying to recover from an external drive holding over 1TB of my music files go down. I have 95 percent of the files copied to another drive, which is the good news.
I have several hundred other cd's to get back into the library. I didn't get to backing up many, so I'll have to re-rip, Grrrrr.... I have many cd's backed up on Data DVD (Apple Lossless files). My question is what is the easiest way to get these DVD Data cd's back into the library?
I know I may have to re-do the artwork and I don't use ratings etc. I just need to know if I can drag and drop the Data DVD's into my new library folder (on another ext. drive). Will Itunes auto magically match them to the album etc.? Or do I have to import album by album and go through it line by line. Itunes is back up and running but without the missing five percent of my music.
Maybe I should start another thread but I didn't use the newer method of the DVD restore/backup disc. I was aware of it but I didn't understand how to use it in my situation. I had over 1tb that I had copied to a backup drive. I would also make Data DVD's over the years, along the way as another backup. To make the backup/restore discs it doesn't seem to let you pick the files to put on it. You can only do the entire collection or items added or changed since last backup. My IMAC doesn't know what I did for my last backup. I dragged and dropped from one hard drive to another without using Time Machine etc.
    Any advice/help much appreciated.

Do these files still exist in the iTunes library or did you have to re-create that too?
If they do exist there then you can copy the files to the new location but will then have to re-link the files one by one from the library to the new location (so the ! disappears).
If they are not in the library, or you don't mind losing some information such as playlist association, rathings, and playcount, you can copy them to the drive, then drag the files to the iTunes library and basically re-add them as new tracks. You may then have to use scripts such as available on [Dougscripts|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scriptcount.php?sortBy=Name& op=y] to clear your library of duplicates which are hte old unlinked file references.

  • DVD data disc song order

Is it possible to burn a DVD MP3 disc in itunes. Every time I select MP3 disc and insert a DVD it switches to data disc. I then end up with a disc of seemingly randomly organised tracks which is pretty useless when trying to play in my dvd player as I cant browse by album.

If the footage was shot in NTSC and they want PAL, you'll need to convert. JES Deinterlacer is an excellent (and free) tool for that. Just export from iMovie, then convert to DV PAL.
If you have Toast, make sure you select "DATA DISC" and "MAC & PC", then just drag the video files into the window. Remember that DV PAL is roughly 13 GB/h, so you can fit about 15 min max onto an SL DVD.

  • Mounting a dvd data disc

it works fine using a live cd, but not in arch
im using a custom kernel and i dont think anything was missed in terms of support
i can only test this on one box since it has my dvd rom and dvd burner on it
the disc is fine and can be read ok by more than one machine, just not my arch box where I actually want it to work.
I searched the forums and have already asked in the channel but either no one has a dvd burner or has not tried this.
    any ideas would be appreciated
btw, it is just mp3's on the data disc

I have a DVD+R writer, and have used arch to burn MP3 dvds, and it reads fine. This is my fstab.

  • Playback of DVD Studio Pro 4 built SD video file - Menu 1 screen is WHITE!!

I recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 with DVD Studio Pro 3 to FCS with DVD Studio 4. I have resolved a number of problems with the upgrade by reading "Apply Discussions", however, I need help with the following: When I import my mpeg2 and AC3 files into DVD SP4, I use the DVD SP4 palette to select an Apple Template for my MENU 1. (I like the "Theater Interior" menu template.) When I view the final product with the DVD SP4 simulator, everything is great including the colors in MENU 1. So, I build my program onto my desktop, the same way I did when I had DVD SP3. Now, the problem begins. When I view the built video TS file on my G5 Apple DVD player, or format it to a standard DVD-R with my pioneer 106D burner and play it back on my in-house DVD player, when the program MENU 1 is displayed on the monitor, it is WHITE in color. The menu is set to times out in 20 seconds. Once that happens, the programs runs perfectly. However, what's with the white menu screen? I can barely make out the buttons. When I click on a button, it operates and the color and program work perfectly from that point. I there an option to get rid of the white screen when the menu comes up? Somehow, when DVD SP4 builds the video file, MENU 1 is encoding with a white background rather than with the colors of the Apple template in use. This did not happen with DVD SP3. Can you help me?
    Ugene

try switching the menu encoding from software to hardware (or vice versa) in your DVDSP preferences and see if that makes a difference for you.

  • Anyway to create an MP3 from a MPEG-4 Video file already in my Itunes?

    Hi,
I am a Windows user and have Itunes ver 8.
I have a video in my ITunes library and want to convert it to MP3 to get the audio only. Is there a way to do that? I have highlighted the song in Itunes
and went to Advanced where I have created an mp3 version from songs I have in my Itunes library, but when I chose Create MP3 version that choice is not highlighted. I can use Advanced -> Creat an IPod or Iphone version but am advised that the video is already in the correct format. If I use File->Show in Windows Explorer it is listed there as a MPEG-4 Video file in properties.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Mickpick

MPEG Streamclip might be able to extract the audio file. I'm not sure, but it's free so there's no penalty for giving it a try.
    Regards.

  • Exporting/Create a Data Disc?

How do I export in a way which I can create a high resolution data file? I need to put a data file on a DVD for some festivals. Exporting using Quicktime Conversion gives me the best quality, but it isn't a file in which the festivals can save to their computer for exhibiting. I need a .mov

    I need a .mov
Find out from the festival officials EXACTLY which type of .mov they will accept. The .mov file extension merely indicates a container; it says nothing about the codec. Saying you need a .mov is like saying you need a vehicle. It doesn't really tell us anything about the specific requirements.
If they can't provide any specifics, then ask to talk to their tech person. They'll know what the playback device will be and whether or not their system has the needed codec installed to play the file.
Generally speaking, if they requested a QuickTime file, chances are their system can play back h.264 files ... if you don't get a specific answer from them, give them an h.264 file.

  • Easy way to create DVDs from several hrs of short video clips frm digicams?

Didn't know which group to post this to. It's a 'consumer' need but I need expert insights. I have several years of video clips in iPhoto, taken on consumer digicams and iPhone. I want an EASY way to get these strung together for burning to DVD primarily as my fail-safe backup since I don't want to trust hard-drive backups for this important family footage. I'd really like some kind of batch program or drag and drop so I can just select a bunch of files, either from the file system directly, or in iPhoto, doesn't matter to me, and shazam the program ideally knows how much can fit on a DVD, strings them together, and burns. I don't need transitions or any custom arrangement of the clips. I can know their chronology from file dates so that is close enough. I have Final Cut Express if that helps. I'm willing to spend up to $100 or so if necessary. I can also write shell scripts or Apple Script if that helps. Thanks!

What you really want to be doing is backing up the your iPhoto Library file located in your Pictures folder in your .
I recommend an external hard drive, but if you really want to use DVDs there are applications (like Toast) that can span across multiple DVDs.

  • Burning & playing music burned on dvd data disc

after i burn a regular cdr in audio mode and i play the newly burned disc, i can change the format of the screen/playback by editing/amending the screen and right clicking on "copy play order" and it saves the changed settings each time i insert that cdr.....but.....when i do the same thing and copy wave music files to a dvd in data mode, when i insert the dvd after it's burnt, itunes will let me change the screen format (ie; name, song, year, album, rating, beats per minute) but when i right click on the inserted dvd, it doesn't give me the option to "copy play order" so i can save it to the disc.......any way around this??

What I do not love is the Smartdrive being unable to correctly play music CDs (on this machine). I consistently get noise during the songs. I've tried many CDs, all the same.
why not rip the CD's (to _*Apple Lossless*_, for example), then add the files to iTunes and play them through iTunes ?

  • Best way to share large video files between 2 macs

My partner in NY is trying to send me over 10 GB of video to edit. We are currently doing it over AIM/ichat.
Is there a better way to do this? As we keep losing the connection, probably due to aim. Can he turn his mac into an FTP or something

This is easily done over AFP. He should:
    1) Put the files in /Users/hisaccount/Public
    2) Enable File Sharing (System Preferences -> Sharing)
    3) Note his IP address (System Preferences -> Network) and e-mail the IP address to you
Once he has done that, you should:
    1) Under Finder's Go menu, select Connect to Server
    2) Enter afp://11.22.33.44 (or whatever his IP address is)
    3) Browse his public folder for the files
    4) Drag them to your Desktop or desired location to make your own copy of them.
10GB is a lot of data to send over the internet. Depending on the upload speed of his internet connection it might just be faster to burn a few DVDs and send them to you by express mail.

  • Dvd burn only creates data disc

recently I succesfully created an SD DVD which I first built and then formatted to a DVD. this disc played perfectly in my dvd player.
after this success I went ahead and created a new DVD but this time with HD footage (I changed the settings to HD in the preferences before starting the new project), and after following all of the same steps after formatting the dvd it is only read as a data disc in my dvd player.
studio pro shows "formatting succesfull" when finished in all cases
    can anyone fill me in?
(as a side note.. when first creating the SD dvd, simply pressing the burn button also only created a data disc. it wasn't until I first built it and then formatted it that the dvd would play properly in my player)
    thanks

    Welcome to the boards
HD Discs will not play on regular SD players so when you changed to HD in the preferences it probably caused the issue
HD footage needs to be converted to SD m2v.
You must build your project before formatting the project, so if you formatted without a proper build somehow that could also cause a problem.
