Creating DVD w/ menu... Wanted no "Play all"!

Hi,
I'm working with an project where I have made use of the menus for the DVD, I have the startmenu with choices to "Play all" and "Play scene" and I want to get rrid of the "Play all" choice!
The Premiere Elements Help file talks about the possibility to make DVD w/ menu that does not have the "Play all" button on the startmenu and also the help talks about getting rid off buttons in the DVD menu - but helps me nothing!
Does anybody here have a hint about how to get rid of the "Play all" buttonchoice on the startmenu for the DVD?

I have localized Premiere Elements to Swedish and press F1 for helpfile, then in the popup html helpfile I choose "Skapa skivmenyer" which directtranslates into *"Create discmenus".
Then I select "Typer av skivor och menyalternativ " = " *"Types of discs and menualternatives"
Then I look at the bottom of that page and see a section about menubase discs - there it speaks about it "
=
*"Menubased disc with several clipchoices:
This discs is suitable for independant clips, that you do not want to be played combined as one film. If e.g. you create a disc with an wedding then maybe you want the preparations, ceremony and the party as separate films. Each of them gets an button in the mainmenu."

  • DVD Studio Pro - Story for "Play All"?

I want to make a DVD with four videos on it. The user goes to the menu and selects either Video 1, Video 2, Video 3 or Video 4. When each video is finished, the user is returned to the menu.
I also want a "play all" button, so that the user can watch all four videos from start to finish.
This is what I did, and it didn't work:
I made a single track, and put all four videos on it. There was a chapter marker on the timeline at the start of each video.
I made a story that contained all four chapter markers. So the "play all" button worked just fine.
I also made buttons for each individual video. I targeted each button for its respective video. But when you select Video 1, it still plays all four videos. When you select Video 2, it plays 2, 3 and 4. And so on.
How do I tell it to play a single chapter, and not all the videos on the track?

Set the "End Jump" for each chapter story to return you to the Main Menu.

  • Creating a DVD Style menu but to play on a media player?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but guessing it's the right crowd to ask This may be a really dumb question, I've done a quick search online but struggling for a solution/direction?
    Task:
    1. I need to create a menu system to play on a media player connected to a HD TV. As it's likely more reliable, less time consuming to make and more portable than DVD (including the player itself).
    2. So, I still need to be able to have a menu/chapter system to access the media I have created. Basically, same as a DVD but playing a file on a Media Player connected via HDMI to any widescreen HD TV.
I have seen a cheap media player that plays a broad range of files like TS files etc, so know accessing some ripped DVD's menus using the media player's remote maybe possible? But I want to create everything from scratch. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Notes:
    a. I'm creating projects in Final Cut Pro x/Motion and can use Encore (now that DVD Studio Pro is dead). I have Compressor too.
    b. I'm not too clued up about compression, but I ideally want to export out of FCPX in the best quality and does it then matter about PAL/NTSC, can I keep everything better quality if I'm not having to compress it to author it to DVD.
It seems like a weird void area because DVD is slowly dying, whilst I have the need to continue having that same experince of the cool menu/chapter system? Hmm! Hope that makes sense? Long Day!

Thanks so much for your reply! Yea, this is what I've researched so far, but I'm looking to try not compress to MPEG2. Smaller text looks pixelated when saving to DVD.
I noticed that Encore outputs BlueRay and can save out as a folder, but not sure how this works from the standpoint of how the media player would treat it?
I'm really surprised I can't find any articles or workflows relating to different ways of doing this? Guess I'll have to go it alone and report back if nobody has attempted this?

  • Creating dvd without menu

I have edited a video on final cut express. I am trying to put it on a dvd using idvd but how can I do if I don't want any menu. I just want to have the file as it is.

At least 3 options that come to mind:
    An "Autostart DVD"
    http://homepage.mac.com/profpixel/Autostart_DVD/AutostartDVD.htm
In both iDvd6 and iDvd'08 the process is identical and goes like this:
    iDvd'08
    By sdmacuser at 2008-02-06
The second option is a "One Step DVD".
Use Discussions search feature to look up One Step DVD. Also use iDvd's Help Menu.
The third option is to use Roxio Toast which has an option for No Menu at all as well as Continuous Play like this:
    Hope these help.
Btw ..... I intentionally excluded DVDSP (excluding Apple's Pro Apps like DVDSP which has a much larger price tag and significantly larger learning curve but nevertheless can address all of the above and more.)

  • PE7 Any way to have DVD VOB 'loop' when you 'play all'

    Hi,
I want to have my DVD VOB..   autorun (which it does) and loop..  which it does not.   Is there any way to create it in PE 7 to loop?
I have found the  opendvd.pvm  xml file..  that may be where the loop command needs to be placed...     and maybe this needs to be done in a '2 step' job.
create the VOB..  and associated files.. then update the opendvd.pvm file with the needed syntax (outside of PE7) and burn a second DVD.
Other way is to do brute force..and repeat the scenes multiple times before buring the DVD VOB.. but that's pretty ugly.. but a 'choice'
    Any suggestions/ideas are appreciated...
    Thanks.

No looping with just Premiere Elements 7, EXCEPT, if the Timeline is not huge and you repeat the Timeline content on the Timeline multiple times. For that matter you could look into the TV's player controls to see if there is a "repeat" button at that level that you could set at playback.
A popular way to get that loop was to burn to folder, not burn to disc, in Premiere Elements and then use the pgedit software to do the rest. The procedure is still listed on the pgedit web site, but the link to the details does not open for me.
    http://download.videohelp.com/r0lz/pgcedit/
I did come across another free software called InfoEdit that might do the job with the Premiere Elements burn to folder route.

  • I want chapters on same menu as "play all"

I am creating a DVD and on an "Extra" menu I have a file that has multiple chapter markers. The thing is, I don't want to have the chapters on a separate menu. I want the "play all" button and the individual chapters on one screen. I think iDVD won't let me do that but I am wondering if there is still a way to do it.

authorize/deauthorize does nothing to your content.
However, you should always maintain a abckup copy of your computer.

  • DVD Play All / Play Seperate

    Hi,
I am trying to get a DVD so that each track can be individually played but also if the user wants to "Play All" 15 tracks without any breaks they can. Does this mean I need to set up a completely different track which has all the tracks combined? and If "Play All" is pressed it will play this track?
    Thanks,
    Tom

As Eric said - use a single track and separate it with stories...

  • Can I Create a Custom Menu In Premiere Elements 12?

It's great that Elements 12 has a way to automate menus for a DVD, but so far I can't find one I like.  Specifically I want a picture background to fill up the whole screen, just like I can do with a title.  Maybe my question should be can I turn a title into a menu by adding markers?
And a related question is do I have to have a main menu and a separate scene selection menu?  I am used to creating menus (with Pinnacle) that allow just one menu screen and buttons that can be added (and the "button" can be text or a picture).
Now I'm getting ahead of myself but if I have a scene menu and someone selects a scene, at the end of the scene will it just continue playing or return to the scene menu?  It's an option in Pinnacle.  I'm hopping it is in Premiere as well because once the scene is done I would rather have it continue to play on like commercial DVDs would if you jumped to a scene in the middle of the movie to continue watching.
    Thanks for any comments.
    Rick

    Rick
The disc menus come as a set of main menu page and scene page.
The main menu page has buttons for Play All and Scenes Selection (to get to the scene menu page if the viewer does not want Play All.
The scene menu page has buttons for the Scenes for the viewer to select what to view first. But, remember that after the viewer watches the selected scene, the viewer in not going to be taken back to the main menu unless he/she selected the last scene to watch.
The number and sequence of the scenes in the scene menu page will be directed by where you place the
menu markers on the Timeline content. The main action for disc menu set up is going to be in Tools Menu/Movie Menu/Movie Maker Customization.
The main menu page comes with a designed in number of buttons. So does the scene menu page.
    a. main menu markers on the Timeline to place main menu buttons
    b. scene menu markers on the Timeline to place scene menu buttons.
Now here is the consideration. If the number of scene markers on the Timeline exceeds the number of designed in button for the scene menu, then the excess spills over to additional pages. Same situation for the main menu and main menu markers.
Example...if you have 6 scene markers placed on the Timeline and you use a menu with a scene menu with only 4 spots for buttons, then you are going to end up with 2 scene menus, the first with 4 buttons/page and the second with 2 on the page. In the end
    a. 1 main menu...Play All Button and Scene Selection Button
    b. 2 scene menus....lst with 4 buttons
Let us try this. Go back to my blog posts and see if the introduction in any of them describes what you want to do.
If one looks promising, then we can go step by step through the how to provide for smoother sailing through the details. The details may look better on the second read.
Based on all that I will see if I can customize something beyond which I have already written about.
Right now for practice look at 8 Timeline scene markers for the Memories/Memory Box theme which should give you
1 main menu page with a spot to insert a picture
2 scene menus page (each with 4 buttons per page)
    ATR
Note: If all your scene markers appear to have similar scenes, make sure you have put a few frames distance between menu makers.
Also, in the Marker's dialog, use the Offset to move the view a little. This will not affect the position of the marker on the Timeline, just the
view of what you are seeing in the scene thumbnail.
We can get rid of thumbnails but it will take us into the theme's psd editing in Photoshop CS or higher or depending on the circumstances
    Photoshop Elements.

  • PLAY ALL - simple? Or no?

Simple SD dvd, 3 tracks, one = 79 min, 1 = 3 min, 1 = 4 min...client also wants a PLAY ALL button. It's about 4.4 GB now. How do I make a PLAY ALL option without causing problems for the end jump on the tracks? How to make a PLAY ALL button/option?
    Thanks
    K

You cannot use a story structure when you have three different tracks. Stories are sub-sets of the track they are in, and cannot have chapters from different tracks added to them.
You also don't need to go back to FCP - all you have to do, assuming your footage is all the same format (if you have some 4:3 and some 16:9 then you will need to either use a scripted solution or go back to FCP) is take the footage from each track and add it to a single track, one section after the other. You've already compressed it, so just drop all three MPEG files into the same track.
You can then add a chapter marker at the end of the clips (no need for the end of the last one) and use a story structure to get a play all. There are two ways to do this... but in your case you should add all of the chapter markers for the ends of the clips into a single story, and set the menu call and end jump for the story. Your menu then needs a button that points to the story container (and not the track or any chapter marker). The chapters within the story will play back, and the end jump for the story will take place when they all have played back.
As for your last question - yes, you can do this, but you'll need to script it. it's not particularly hard to do, but if you've not done any scripting then I'd go with the story based method above. If you want to see the scripted solution, go back to here: http://www.dvdstudiopro.co.uk/tutorials/play-all-3/
or here for a longer (but certainly simpler) method: http://www.dvdstudiopro.co.uk/tutorials/play-all-1/

  • Best way to handle PLAY ALL and individual plays?

Just out of curiosity, what's the best/usual way to handle the basic PLAY ALL/PLAY-A-CHAPTER set-up? Is it better to have everything in one track and make a story out of each chapter and assign those individual stories to the respective buttons, and then have a PLAY ALL button that has the TRACK as it's target?
Or is it more conventional to assign the CHAPTER markers to individual buttons (with END JUMPS set to your MENU) and then create a STORY containing all chapters for your PLAY ALL?
Oh, and if it matters, I'm talking DVDSP3.

Hi Eric - I never like putting end jumps on chapter markers - there have been too many times when I wanted to 'play all'but the end jumps on the markers prevent it. Using stories neatly sidesteps the issues.
It's good that you haven't had any problems with it - and long may that continue! My experiences are sadly not the same as yours... hence my advice.

  • Subtitles not appearing when play all selected.... please help

    Hello All,
The deal goes like this... I am making a DVD for a national park and I have 4 videos
3 of which have subtitles. The subtitles are on a separate menu and you don't have to select to show subs, they are automatically selected when the viewer selects the video of choice. The client now wants a play all button, which I did with stories. Well it works fine in the simulator but when I burn the DVD nothing.... The subtitles are still available on the single tracks but not when you selected all.
    Any ideas.

It should work, is the pre-script set in the story or the track?
Actually stepping back a second, how is the project set-up? It looked like it was stories between tracks?

  • Play all question

I am looking to make a menu in DVD Stuido Pro
I want a person to be able to select from the main menu and play each chapter seperately, and when that specific chapter is done for it to go back to the main menu...
I would also like a feature on the same main menu that says Play All.. that would obviously play them all continiously, without going back each time to the main menu.. can anyone point me in the right direction for that?

  • I'm trying to use a play all feature...

I have a number of video clips to go on a DVD. I want an individual button for each clip which plays just that clip and does not continue to the next progressive clip. I also want a "play all" button which will play each clip in a progressive order. Is there a way to do this without doubling the amount of information on the disk?
    Vince

The story will get added to the track and you can see it in the outline view or the graphical view windows. If in the outline view the track icon will have an arrow next to it which if you click will reveal the story. In the graphical view stories are blue/green in colour.
Have a look at the following project which has got a complete set up along the lines of the tutorial:
    http://homepage.mac.com/halgernon/.Public/Play%20All%20projects/Playall_stories. zip
You will see that there are five stories, and from the menu each can play individually. Each story has got a menu call and end jump to go back to the right button on the menu, and the play all button targets the actual track.
If you want to do the option with a single story, you can download a demo of that here:

  • Need "Play All" setting please

I dont work much in Encore - especially Menus.
Having a little issue with my Chapter Marks and the Menu settings
    Chapter 1
    Chapter 2
    Chapter 3
I have a Menu created for the above 3 Chapters and I want a Play All as well.  ie THe menu   would be 4 items
    Play ALL
    Chapter 1
    Chapter 2
    Chapter 3
I just can not work out how to do the Play ALL Link ?   ( setting?)
If I link to Chapter 1...it stops at  the end of Chapter 1.

I assume that you have a single timeline with three chapter markers on it.
You must create a Chapter Playlist for each chapter if you want to play them separately.  Have a button for each chapter, and set each end action to Return to Last Menu.
Remove the End Actions from the chapters on your main timeline.  Set Play All to Chapter 1.
You will get an error message about duplicate end actions if you have both Timeline and Chapter Playlist 3 with the same End Action.  This does not appear to matter in practice, but I avoid the complication by having the end of the last separate chapter before the final credits - this means having another chapter marker here, which is not otherwise used.
You can achieve the same result without chapter playlists by using over-rides, but I have always found these to be problematic.
