Creating DW templates - Repeating Optional Region?

Hello Again:
I know that it isn't always the best to pose abstract questions on forums, but I am wondering if anyone can tell if/how one can create an optional region within a repeating region of a DW template?
The specific conundrum I seem to face that if a region has two divs within it (one with and one without a textbox surrounding it, for example) and if the user of the template chooses to repeat the section, how can they delete the second div within the repeated region (deleting through the modify tempate option) without deleting all the previous instances of the div as well.
If there is a way to do this, I would appreciate some guidance.
Thanks in advance.
Steve Webster.

Yes, and first my apologies, as I could have provided the example first of all.  If you go to  http://socls.org/testing/immigration-refugee_law.html I can perhaps explain my objective better.  On that page you see a series of text boxes one with a gradient background and a second with a only a outline in red.   For the moment ignore the text boxes that are rendered side by side and assume that the 1st two horizontal text boxes are all that I want to repeat throughout the page.
I want to place the two of those full width text boxes within a repeating region (or turn them into a repeating region).  However if the webmaster needs to add content but doesn't need a pair of text boxes, or otherwise gets to the end of her content sections and doesn't need a final red outlined box, then I would want that the last red outlined box to be optional, without however deleting previous instances.  Sometimes content can't be organized so neatly as to finish with an even number of "content sets".
I think the bigger problem is, as I understand it, that you can't create two "divs" (in this case text boxes) and have each repeating independently, and allow each to be moved up and down as though they were passing through another text box/div that also constitutes a repeating region.  The only way to have the pattern to repeat is to "pair" them as a single unit (Or perhaps I have misunderstood how the repeating action works ?!?)  I have tried treating them as independent repeating regions and it doesn't seem to work in the manner I would like.  If you tie them together in this way, then the only way to end with an uneven number of text boxes is to make one optional.  But it seems that if you make the second in the pair optional, then by "turning it off", you end up turning all off.
At least that is how it seems to work.
You may be right that the design is too complicated to work as a template in this fashion.
Or, perhaps I am fundamentally mistaken on the architecture of the repeat concept.
Thanks again for your patience and persistence
Steve.

  • VM created from Windows 10 TP template stuck at region select page

I need use System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2 to create VM with different locale settings.
    Step:
Create VM with Windows 10 TP ISO.
    Use local machine account 'A'.
    Do some manual configuration.
Create VM template with this VM.
    Template setting:
answer file with region settings (UI language, region, keyboard).
The OS type I select is Windows 8.1 or 64 bit 8.1 since there is no Windows 10.
I set the user ‘A’ and it’s password in  admin password section.
    Result:
When create VM from the template, it will stuck at select region page, and need manually do some settings then it could go to desktop.
When I use the same process to create Windows 8.1 VM template, the VM created from template will directly go to desktop.
    Question:
It seems even I set locale related info in answer file, it’s doesn’t work for Windows 10 TP, how could I get the same result as Windows 8.1 template?

I don't know if you will get assistance with your issue, since it is not a supported deployment scenario.
I recommend you explore windows deployment as it relates to Windows 10 as there could easily be something that changed, or support for unattended specialization is just not turned on yet.

You cannot add regions on a page that uses a portal template.

  • POSITION OF IMAGE IN TEMPLATE OPTIONAL REGION

    Hi,
I am new to Dreamweaver and have designed a template with a
table on my page. Each of 4 template areas are either editable or
optional regions. In one optional region I have an image. I have
defined the table to be aligned to the top of the table cell, but
when the template is applied to the other pages, the image is in
the middle vertically. I also have it set to be centered
horizintally, but it stays to the left.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Post a link to the page, please.

  • Please make "Copyright Status" an editable option in creating metadata templates

I'm new to the Adobe eLearning suite, including Bridge CS4.  I've found a workaround in the forums for this issue already, but I really think this is something that Adobe should fix in the Bridge software itself.  Apologies if someone else has already posted this as a feature request in this forum, but as it seems I'm unable to search within just this forum, I gave up looking.
In a nutshell: "Copyright Status" should be a field available when choosing what IPTC Core metadata to include in a new metadata template.  And it's also not an editable field when looking at the metadata for an image!  The whole point of metadata templates is to make it unnecessary to edit a single field (like "Copyright Status") one image at a time.  Yet even with the new Bridge CS4, the Copyright Status field is not an option you can include in a new metadata template.  Surely it wouldn't be that big a deal to make the 3-item pick list of "Unknown," "Copyrighted" and "Public Domain" available on the Create Metadata Template checklist.  Or if having a pick list is too tricky to code on that form and it must be just a checkbox item, do that, and let us populate the text in the field ourselves.
Currently, it's necessary to tweak the metadata on a single image to include the "Copyrighted" status, then Export it and save it as a new metadata template, just to have that one field populated by default.  Supplying copyright status as part of a template is a fundamental need for anyone creating or dealing with large numbers of images, and it shouldn't require a workaround to create a properly inclusive metadata template.
    Thanks!

In Bridge CS4, highlight your thumbnail, go to the File Menu and select File and then File Info.  There you will be able to choose your Copyright Status under the Description tab.  What a pain in the butt!  Mine kept coming up "Public Domain!"

  • Edit optional region in template

I need to edit an optional region in a template so that by
default the value is "false" for the given region.
    So to do this I:
    - select the region
    - in the 'Properties' window CLICK 'edit'
    - select the 'basic' tab
    - UNCHECK the 'show by defailt' box
    - CLICK 'OK'
Unfortunately this does nothing. The template does not seem
to have been altered at all. If I go back in to edit the same
region the box, which I DEFINITELY unchecked, is CHECKED again.
Anyone able to offer some insight, please?
    Ideas and thoughts welcome.

  • Change tr bgcolor based on optional region

    Hello, dear DW wizards,
I would like to automatically change the background color of a table row based upon wether an optional region is visible in a document or not.
I created an optional region in a template and set its default state to show. In another region I made the tr tag of a table row editable. The default bgcolor for that row is red.
If the optional region in an html file based on this template is hidden, the bgcolor of the table row should automatically change to blue.
Is this possible with conditional expressions? I find no detailed info on the programming and don't know Javascript (which DW expression language is similar to).
    Thanks for you help
    Bernhard

Your best bet with questions like this is to post your code so we can see exactly what is happening.  Nevertheless, the 'guess' answer to your question is "yes" you can do such things with conditional expressions.  You would make the color for the <tr> test the template parameter that controls the visibility of the optional region:
    <tr style="background-color:@@(param==true ? #AAAAAA : #BBBBBB)@@"

  • Pages created by Template view and preview Ok - Except when linked on page

I created a template in DW. The template contains a background image and an editable region. I made some pages using the template / updated my pages and saved them as html. I have worked with templates before.
Here is the problem. I can open, view the html files in DW that I applied the template to, they look normal. I can preview the files in IE.
If I click a link in lets say the index file, to another lets cay contact.html file that I applied the template to, it only loads the editable region and  I don't see the template applied. If I pull up the file, say contact.html in DW the template is applied and if I preview  it the page displays. No background image or dropdown includes are on the page and the template is not applied for some reeason in preview when linking from a hotspot. The path is correct.
I tried this several times and still no luck. I even uplopaded to the web and the same thing is happening.
Please advise as to what I should look at? I can direct you to an example if need be. -
    Dreamweaver MX user.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Here is the code of an html file in which the region is editable. The template has been applied to this page and is one of the pages that is having a problem.
I will need to look further into your last response, although it makes perfect sense to a webmaster like yourself, it only makes partial sense to me but I do undertand the point. I will look into that furher, thank you for your response.
When looking at the code, my Background image was repeating and I do not want it to. I edited some of the code and although, it does not look clean, it does work. Maybe this is part of the problem.
In this example, I did get the background to work, not sure how, but my includes and a image over the background with the hotspots are not wodking.

  • Updating optional regions

I'm just starting to figure out how templates work, but I've
run into an issue that I'm certain is easily solved.
So far the template is just a logo, a picture and 5 buttons
linked to 5 template using pages.
Each of the buttons are defined as optional regions. The idea
is to have each page show their corresponding button uniquely.
In each page I have changed the button in the optional region
to look different, to indicate which page the user is on. - so far
so good. However, when I return to the template and make a change
to one of the buttons in the optional region, save the template and
update the pages, the changes are not immediately reflected in the
    template using pages.
If I select Template Properties and change the value of each
optional region to "false" and click okay, then repeat the process,
changing it back to "true", all the regions are then updated.
Surely there is a one-click button that can do this?
    Thanks for any help,
    Doug

Just to clarify, it is only the optional regions that don't
update. Maybe that is by design, but if so, I'm having a hard time
    understanding the point.
    Thanks,
    Doug

  • Templates: Is it impossible to create a template-based website with pages in multiple sub-folders?

When creating html files from a Dreamweaver template, any subsequent update to the .dwt file resets all paths within the document's uneditable regions, undoing the initial "update links" option prompted on first save. This "update links" option, if available after each save of the template file, would be very handy for maintaining link integrity throughout a multi-level site's components (navigation, for instance). However, the option is only available when creating a new file from the template.
For example, if I create "file1.html" in "folder1" from the "template.dwt" template in "/Templates" , I am prompted on save to update the links in that file. This option would change a link (in an uneditable region) in "file1.html" from "css/style.css" to "../css/style.css" to accommodate the location of "file1.html" within "folder1". Good stuff.
However, when I save the .dwt file again, with any sort of update, this "../ " is removed from "file1.html" 's links, breaking every link in that file. When using Dreamweaver to create a multi-page site in several folders, I am saddened at the thought of hand-coding and copying/pasting navigation instead of using templates. Is there any workaround?  Thanks for reading.

    Nancy,
I tried your suggestion and recreated the site cache each time I saved or modified anything, but the same problem persists. Here's what I did:
I created /template-test1.html in the site root, from the template (the "update page when template updates" option was checked).
This file included <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css">, as the template did.
    I recreated the cache.
Then, I did a Save-As to /folder, so the file is now at /folder/template-test1.html
I was prompted to update links, and I clicked yes.
This updated the file to include <link rel="stylesheet" href="../css/style.css">, correctly modified from the original template.
    I recreated the cache.
I updated and re-saved the template file.
It reset the link to <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css"> to match the original template's, breaking my link.
    Possible Solution:
Should I switch to setting absolute site-relative links instead of relative links? I've only ever used relative links in my sites, and don't want to have to worry about the issues that arise from that. (The website I'm working on is being constantly restructured, so folder names may change a few times before the site goes live.) However, with all pages relative to the root, I wouldn't have any pathing problems when I update the template.

  • Template Repeating table

    Hi,
I'm working on creating a template file, and the page is
going to be used by some authors who will just be entering some
text in a table. So i thought using the template>Repeating table
option might be good to try.
All went well until I noticed that after they enter a couple
rows of text, and they want to sort the table. If they go to
Commands>Sort Table. you get an error
'Sort Table command cannot be applied to this table'..
Is there no way to sort a table that uses the repeating table
    template option?

I guess not. Never occurred to me to even try that....

  • Deleting optional regions

    Hi all,
I'm learning how to add optional editable regions. I made a
few bungled ones until I finally got it right. The problem is, now
when I create a new page based on the template then go MODIFY >
TEMPLATE PROPERTIES, I get a list of all the old optional regions I
added then removed. I can't figure out how to get rid of them!
This won't be good to hand over to the client, how can I
    remove these from the list?
    Cheers

Delete the parameter definitions in the head of the Template
    page that
relate to those defunct optional regions.

  • I have Pages 09.  I have created custom templates and want to delete them.  How do I delete a template I have created in Pages 09?

Pages stores those you created & saved as templates in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. The door to the user's Library is hidden in Lion but it is easy to open. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your users Library will appear about halfway down the list.
