Creating editable PDF files

I am currently using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional. I am trying to update my PDF file with fill able positions that can be accessed using Adobe Reader. I am using the Text field tool to create the positions. When I run the form with my reader I can enter data into the positions, but when I save the document it does not save the information in just entered? Please help!
Thanks

You guys are GREAT! Thank you very much for the quick response. This worked like a charm.

Is there any way to create 3D PDF file without having the model tree ?
3D communication is good but sometime we don't want the receiver to be able to study every components in model.
or any way to make the receiver cannot use model tree and measurement tool ????
    Thank you very much

You can remove the assembly tree by doing a roundtrip in 3D Toolkit, here's how:
    - start Acrobat 3D
    - drag & drop a CAD file
    - click on 3D Annot to activate
    - right-click on 3D
    - select 'Edit in 3D Toolkit'
    - 3D Toolkit launches
    - click in 'Scene Tree' panel
    - right-click on top assembly name
    - select 'Tools->Collapse Hierarchy'
    - select 'File->Save'
    - select 'File->Exit'

  • How to create a pdf file from multiple images ?

    Dear All,
I want to create a SINGLE page pdf file from two or more page size images that are combined to make a single page pdf. Again, this question is on pdfs that are made out of several, atleast  two color images and a black-and-white mask for one of them.
I have such pdf files from an unknown source (the producer is edited out) whereby there are three tiff images, obtained using the well known pdfimages extractor.
When I want to make a pdf out of tiff or png or other image formats, I right click and tell Adobe Acrobat to make a pdf.
However, I dont know how I can give a command to select say,  three tif images and specify which is the mask for which and then join  them in a way that I get the pdf from the composite of the two color images and a mask for one of them.
    Please help me out.
I am a little familiar with the pdf structure skeleton and when necessary, fixed xref tables in one of my favorite editors. A few years ago, I also wrote a bunch of javascripts to make some annotations and needed some automation and used some itext type libraries. However, I need your help in this problem as I am now rusty and forgot some of what I studied to solve my earlier problems. This is a new problem for me. Gentle hints from you would be very nice to help me in this problem. Please specify if necessary what manual and pages to read. in the pdfspec.

I would gladly mention that I am working on windows platform, preferably XP.
I can also work on linux for free products that come with it.

    and give impression of user-centeredness.

Well, just add the few pdf stanzas since you are proficient on it and
I am presently a little rusty as I mentioned. Just asking a little

Well, ascii format or uncompressed format that is human readable. I
know its a binary file, but human readable ascii version of it.
I hope you can give me some stanza and various other approaches
possible so I can select or combine things for myself. I see only a
miniscule number of posts claiming to have written masks in this forum
    and then with no details.

  • Using Oracle "Import PDF" Extension in Open Office Draw to Edit pdf Files

I am a fairly new Mac user with OS X 10.6. For several months, I have been trying to find something which would edit pdf files better than Preview does (for example, the content of a text box in Preview can only be "center aligned"). Skim and FormulatePro were two options I tried that were improvements over Preview in many respects, but wouldn't let me paste an image onto my pdf (such as, for example, if I wanted to put my digital signature on a document).
Then, I "discovered" the Oracle PDF Import Extension which I had installed in Open Office months ago, but hadn't really used. By "discovered," I mean I read on somebody's blog that you could use Open Office Draw to edit pdf files and I thought, "Hey, I wonder if that would work with my setup." (Boy, do I feel stupid.)
I have just started using this functionality, but in just an hour or so of playing around, I have found that it has far exceeded my expectations and, even, my immediate needs. Besides giving you (a) all the control over text and text boxes that you would expect from, say, a word processing program and (b) allowing you to paste images onto your pdf, Open Office Draw also includes layers!
The layer function threw me off for a bit, because, at first, I kept finding that my attempts to edit the document resulted in grabbing the raster image and moving it "off" of the underlying text layer (a function, I will admit, that I think will be worth exploiting someday, but wasn't what I was looking for at the moment). Then, I discovered that you can "lock" the layer so as to prevent this annoying occurrence. To create your edits, simply create a new layer (call it "MyEdits" or whatever you want) and you're in business.
Anybody who has done anything more than drawn a couple of lines and boxes on a page has discovered that editing the overlapping objects can be a real pain - if not an outright impossibility. Separating these overlapping objects through the use of different layers solves the problem.
The only downside to the use of Open Office Draw as a pdf editing tool that I can see is that you must import the pdf, save your edits in odg format, and then export it to pdf when you're done. I know that we would all like to have the capability of doing everything I just described directly to the native document, but, hey, for all the functionality I have been searching the internet for weeks to find, I think it's a reasonable trade off.

    Try turning off protected mode.

  • I do not get a readable or editable PDF file that has been converted to Microsoft Word.

In the past I have been able to convert PDF files to MicroSoft Word, and Edit and Save the Documents. Now, the converted files are unreadable and uneditable. How do I correct this problem?

    Thanks for the email, Stacy!
I don't have an old PDF file that I converted to MicroSoft Word, however the new file that I am trying to convert and edit is the same kind of file that I've converted and edited before; An Invoice from the same Company. Is there a possibility that a download, MicroSoft Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office System, onto MicroSoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 computer might be causing the problem? Should I download to (.doc) or (.docx)? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Joseph,
    I'd like to assist!
Have you tried converting one of your old PDF's that have worked in the past to see if it still works?
Are these files scanned to PDF files?
You may want to try utilizing the OCR solution.
Let me know if that works.
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
    Kind regards, Stacy

  • Using reports to "just" create a pdf file

    Hi All,
I'm using oracle aplication server 10g.
I have a situation where i must send several emails into my clients. I want to use the reports server to create several pdf files attached into a "pretty" mail message.
In the end the user will get a full report in a "pretty" html message with several pdf files.
I have already done a very flexibal pl/sql procedure that can send emails into any mail server and using any amount of attach files.
I have already done the reports and i can call them find from the find from oracle forms creating a pdf file.
My problem is that i can't stop the oracle from calling the browser and showing the report on the user screen. I simple want to generate the reports... create a html email message attach the reports (pdf) and send them into the user
Using the build in email support in oracle reports is out of the question because it's a bit limited.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
But i do not want to use reports to send the email, i just want him to generate a pdf file and NOT OPENING the pdf file on the user browser, having that i will use my own pl/sql procedure to send the email with the pdf file attached.
I need this because because reports is a bit limit in the email respect, and with a build in email procedure i can do a lot more things (mail queues, elaborate messages, mail store etc)
PS: i'm using the rp2rro.rp2rro_run_product package to run the reports

  • Creating "Editable" PDF documents??

I was wondering if anyone knows of any great Mac software to create editable PDFs. I'm looking for good commercial software, although freeware is OK, but prefer tried and true software. Basically, I have some documents I want to add some fields to, and let my customer fill it in, then print it out. Any help will be appreciated.
    Bryan

Actually Acrobat is not the application for creating .pdf files.
You do that almost anywhere else, such as InDesign, Quark Xpress, Illustrator or any Cocoa app in OSX such as Pages, Keynote, TextEdit, iText Express etc.
After you have created your pdf, then you use Acrobat to edit it, ensure links are working, manipulate fields etc.
It maybe extremely clumsy, bloated, unintuitive and a general mess but it is virtually the only game in town.
There is no such thing as an uneditable pdf file, you just need the tools to get at the postscript.
You may find Illustrator a useful adjunct to fixing the visual aspects of a pdf file as it will open pdfs in an editable form for the graphics, not links or form fields. Be aware that a final distilled pdf file can be messy and requires some knowledge of how postscript works to unpick and reconstruct.

  • Editable pdf file that can be saved

Working with Acrobat X. I have created an editable PDF file that i sent to my customer. They enter their information and all is good, BUT they can't save the file only print.
Is there something else I need to do to make this possible?
    Traci

Whenever I see "customer" in a question like this I try to remind folks of the limitation of the license for 500 uses. Not requiring the extra step is an option for Reader XI as mentioned. The other way is to have any data submitted as a data file (FDF) rather than the whole form. When you import the data file into the form you get the same result. The customer can just print the form for their records.

  • FireFox 3.6.13 Locks up Microsoft XPS Document Writer, PDF995 (created Acrobat pdf file output) stops printing mid document, and Internet Explorer works fine

Microsoft XPS Document Writer locks up and PDF995.com (creates acrabat pdf file) stops printing after the second page from this site http://super.nova.org/DPR/CinematicApproach/. This was a Windows 7, 64 bit machine that had the issue. Microsoft Internet explorer works fine and printed the document with Internet Explorer.
The machine that displayed FireFox printing issues was a up to date Win 7, 64 bit, Quad Core, 8 Gig Ram. Don't really have a question just reporting a FireFox Bug.

    Hi,
do you have a solution for the problem? We have actually a similar problem with locked IE8 when using a zoom factor > 100% (it's a customer WD4A).

  • Edit pdf files with surface touch

how do i edit pdf files with surface win

Adobe Reader products (Reader XI desktop, Reader for iOS, Reader for Android, Reader Touch for Windows 8, etc.) are free and mainly focused on PDF viewing capabilities.
If you actually want to modify text or images in PDF or create PDFs from Word or Excel files, etc., you need Acrobat XI Pro or Standard (paid product).
The following page shows the product comparison for Acrobat/Reader XI for desktop.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/product-comparison.html
If you have a Surface Pro (running the Windows 8 operating system), you can run Acrobat XI Pro or Standard in the desktop environment for editing PDFs.  However, if you have a Surface RT (running the Windows RT operating system), you are not able to run any of the Acrobat desktop products (including Reader XI) because they are not compatible with the Windows RT operating system.

  • How can I create multiple PDF files from multiple InDesign files?

I have 144 InDesign files that I need to create a PDF file for each. I do not want to open each InDesign file to create the PDF's. Acrobat Batch create won't open the InDesign files. Is there another way?

Only InDesign can do this. You may want to look at InDesign automation.

  • Using Acrobat X and creating a PDF File from EXCEL 2010, I notice that the Pagination restarts at 1 for each Worksheet included in the PDF.

I use Acrobat X Standard and created a PDF file from two or more worksheets using EXCEL 2010.
The resulting PDF file restarts the PAGE # (In header/footer settings of Excel) at 1 for each worksheet.
However, a colleague of mine who has Acrobat X Pro version, using EXCEL 2010 and same exact file does the same task, he gets a file that starts at page 1 and second worksheet continues the page # from the last page of the First worksheet.
We both are using the ACROBAT menu (not the print to Adobe printer) to create the file so that we can get Bookmarks included in the resulting file for each worksheet.
We cannot figure out any option in Acrobat's preferences that controls the pagination on either of these versions of Acrobat.
So is this just a feature that works one way in Standard version and another way in the Pro version, and the user has no control over it?

This is so sad. I read your comments and I said, "Huh?" Haha!
I tried the indexed color option and it did make the final file smaller. Around 600KB. But there's probably another way to make it even smaller like the gazillion-paged pdf file that I mentioned that was only about 300KB.
And by saying a layout program, does that mean like Adobe InDesign? Does that mean that I should just make my graphics in Photoshop and then import using another program and finish the file there?
What other layout programs can I use?
    Thank you so much!
