Creating editable pdf's from pdf.

Is this possible? I've lost the source document file and would like to avoid re-creating if possible.  Thanks GB

What do you mean by editable? Is the document a scan or does it have text that was created as a PDF from the original file.
If it is a scan, you need to run OCR (probably clear scan) to get text that you can edit. The problem is that OCR is generally not perfect and you need to review the entire document to be sure it is correct.
If it is text, then you might be better off saving it as a WORD document and fixing any problems there, then create a new PDF. Getting a good WORD file is not always easy, but editing in Acrobat should only be used for very minor edits.

I have got a requirement to have some editable fields in one report whose output is in PDF format.

If that is the question , so here is some points,
If you have Acrobat Writer or prof.edition, you can edit all the PDF documents irrespective of being from where it is generated.
To make you understand more of XMLP.
You create RTF template in word, so that , after merging with xml you can have multiple output formats like PDF, XLS, EFT,.....

Looking to create editable PDF forms with drop downs and text boxes for use on a Mac computer and iPad. Which product do I need to purchase? Do not need anything fancy

Basically you would need Acrobat. However, it is now also possible to create basic form fields using just the free Reader. In fact, I've been working on a tool that allows you to do it, so if you're interested in it please contact me privately.

  • Creating "Editable" PDF documents??

I was wondering if anyone knows of any great Mac software to create editable PDFs. I'm looking for good commercial software, although freeware is OK, but prefer tried and true software. Basically, I have some documents I want to add some fields to, and let my customer fill it in, then print it out. Any help will be appreciated.

Actually Acrobat is not the application for creating .pdf files.
You do that almost anywhere else, such as InDesign, Quark Xpress, Illustrator or any Cocoa app in OSX such as Pages, Keynote, TextEdit, iText Express etc.
After you have created your pdf, then you use Acrobat to edit it, ensure links are working, manipulate fields etc.
It maybe extremely clumsy, bloated, unintuitive and a general mess but it is virtually the only game in town.
There is no such thing as an uneditable pdf file, you just need the tools to get at the postscript.
You may find Illustrator a useful adjunct to fixing the visual aspects of a pdf file as it will open pdfs in an editable form for the graphics, not links or form fields. Be aware that a final distilled pdf file can be messy and requires some knowledge of how postscript works to unpick and reconstruct.

  • Creating Editable PDF from Form Created in LiveCycle

I believe the anwser is no, but I want to confirm. If I create a pdf form in LiveCycle Designer, can I load and populate that pdf form with a different library such as iText or do I have to use continue to use the LiveCycle PDF Services. (2.5)
    Thanks

Yes, you can update forms from designer with data from any number of libraries, from iText to the Adobe PDF Java Toolkit to any variety of .NET products.  The key is that there are different APIs for the XFA form (you update the XML data stream in the XFA area) and acroforms (where you update individual fields or update through FDF/XFDF import).
Also, keep in mind that a reader-extended form or a signed form should be changed in incremental update mode or you'll lose the rights and the signature.

  • Creating editable PDF forms in Acrobat

I need to create digital PDF forms, a document with fields that can be filled in by anyone using the free Acrobat Reader.
I'm currently using Acrobat Pro (version 10.1.13) for Mac, but it will not allow me to do that, or perhaps I can't work it out. Here's a link to the tutorial I followed: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-editable-form-fields
I'm willing to upgrade, if a more recent version of Acrobat will allow me to do that.
    Please help!
    Many thanks, Mary

Whatever issues you have, have nothing to do with your version of Acrobat. Beyond that your info is simply too vague. just saying that it doesn't work is never a good way to ask for help. Either way, ask in the Acrobat forum.

  • Creating Editable PDF Form

    Hi all,
    Can anyone help here...
I am trying to create a PDF document in Acrobat Pro 9 Extended, which is a form that can be filled in and saved by the end user. I have created the document in InDesign and am using Pro to add in the editable regions.
    Here is the PDF: www.leshooperfitness.com.au/pdf/exercise-meal.pdf
I can open the file, add content to the form, re-save it and it retains all the info. However, I am having all sorts of problems with other people saving content to the file, sometimes it works, sometimes all the content is wiped clean and sometime the content is there, but you have to actually click on a text box before the content is displayed. The other people are sometimes on a Mac/iPad, but even when they use Adobe Reader they are able to save the info and sometime it stays saved on their machine until it is emailed to me and then it disappears. Other times they save it and when they go back to it, it has gone. But there doesn't seem to be a consistant pattern, it just doesn't seem like a very reliable way of saving info.
Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong? Or, is there a more effective way of creating editable, interactive forms?
    Thanks

The problem you seeing with the content not being displayed until the field has the focus is a well kown problem with PDF forms that have been filled and saved with the Preview application on the Mac. For more information, see: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html
So the Mac users (OSX) should use Adobe Reader, as opposed to Preview. Windows users may not be using a viewer as capable as Acrobat/Reader as well, so you mught want to check that also.
The default PDF viewer on the iPad does not support interactive PDF forms, so you'll need to use a viewer that does. Adobe Reader for the iPad does not at the moment, and the best one that does is Readdle's PDF Expert.

  • Create/Edit Word documents from Form 6 in the web

How can I create/edit Microsoft Word documents from a form running under IAS.
In client/server I can do it using OLE2.

On the Web the OLE2 option would still work if your Forms server is on a windows machine with word on it. The files will be created on the server and you can get them to the client with the web.show_document built-in.
If you want to create them on the client machine directly you need a Java bean that will activate the COM interface.

  • Creating Editable PDF

I have created a document in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro that has several Text fields and Combo Boxes.  My goal is to be able to have this document open in Preview on a mac and or Adobe Reader on PC computers so that clients can fill out a form I started for them and send it back to me regardless of what computer they are on.
I have clicked on Advanced -Extend Features In Adobe Reader.  And this seems to allow the other software to open/manipulate and save the document.  Although every time the document is re-saved out of Preview, a Text Field is deleted.  And then another if you save again, and another, so on and so on.
I am not sure where to begiun diagnosing this issue?
If anyone has any advice that would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Jesse Korosi

Phillip, when building forms, web pages or anything, your goal should be to make it as usable as possible for anyone using anything.
What's wrong with having them download Reader? Well for starters, if you are serving the public or your customers, you don't want to make them download anything if possible.
Adobe is not going to drop support for Mac so you can quite sayinhg that. Stop believing everything you misread on the web.
I'm going to have to copy links to documents I read and keep them,  just to prove what I read is just what I read. Obviously you don't read cNet, ZDnet, and ComputerWorld Daily reports. The reporter did say they he recommends that, Adobe, pull all support the Mac. I suppose if you want to go to cNet and look it up.
As for Adobe doing away with Mac Support, (Which I am Not saying will happen for now), what benefit would it be to continue support if Apple had a program that could do anything and everything an Adobe product could. If a customer could get the same operation in a Free (included) feature of the system. Are they going to spend bucks on a competing product that has little or no features of advantage. (I wouldn't). And if no one buys any products what's the point of continuing support.

  • Create Editable Sequence Preset from Clip

    Hi,
I want to reverse engineer a sequence preset so that I can down-res the final video but utilize the same codec/playback settings from the full res file.  Is there a way to create an editable Sequence preset off of clip setting?  I see how the sequence can get set to the settings of the original file (by dropping it into a blank sequence and choosing "Change Sequence settings...") but not how to edit them after that.
    Is this possible?

    Him Jim,
I had thought about that but wasn't sure if the "Playback Settings" button would come into play but it appears that it's always disabled.   Would there be a case where that would need to be clicked/edited?
    Thanks!

  • Create/edit word document from in Forms 6

I want to create and or edit word documents stored in the operating system whose name (and path) is stored in the database. I have a form with a field of the doc name, how can I call word with the file name?
I've never used OLE before so be specific.
    Thanks

I've never used OLE before so be specific. So you know what to use. Look at Forms Help. There is no better place for this. You will get examples there.
But Remember If you are using Forms on WEB this will give problems as OLE is not supported on WEB.

Editing video is not possible with Photoshop Elements.
Photoshop Elements is for photo editing
In order to edit videos , you should use Premiere Elements or Premiere Pro
However, Adobe does offer a combined package of Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements, which might work perfectly for someone who just needs the most basic tools for editing both photos and video.

  • Editable PDF Template for Proposals etc

I'm a complete newb when it comes to acrobat so let me try and explain what I'm trying to do.
My dad has his own business and he wants to be able to fill out all his proposals, statements and etc online. So what I'm trying to do is create a template based off of his printed proposals and make it so all he has to do is fill out the name, description and amount due. So I need an editable PDF file that he can fill out and then save as a new file (all filled out with the information he put in) that is uneditable, which will be presented to the client.
I tried adding form fields but I couldnt figure out how to save it so it would be uneditable by the client.
Hopefully, I explained that clearly. By the way I have the adobe master suite incase any other programs will help me. Thanks in advanced and sorry for my newbness.

  • Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro (Editable PDF Combobox Search is not working properly.)

I have created Editable PDF using itext(5.3.0) in java. I have used Adobe Reader XI and Adobe Reader X Pro.  But in editable PDF combobox search is  not working properly.
    It's only search first character.

My (admittedly old and slow) system did this too the first time I opened Reader 11, but it "unfroze" after about fifteen seconds, (an eternity in computing time, I know, but it did eventually open all the way) What you're seeing on the right is the "Tools" panel initializing. That's exactly where mine would freeze up on starting. Once it did finally open fully, I clicked the "Tools" link at the top to close the panel, and I opened and viewed a document that way, then closed reader. Now when I open Reader, the Tools panel doesn't initialize and it opens immediately.
Reboot and before you open anything else, open Reader. When you open it, DO NOT try to do anything with it until it fully opens, don't click anything, don't try to switch to another app. Give it time to open fully, and then click the Tools link to close it. Then, open and view a document, and close it. Close Reader and reopen it. the Tools panel should remain closed and Reader should open fully immediately.
