Creating events in iPhoto

I'm working with iPhoto.  Photos are not showing up on the Events page for me to organize.  I've gone to the Photos section and organize them into events.  However, they do not appear on the Events page.  What am I doing wrong?

Either your events are not sorted the way you want. Fix under the view menu ==> sort events
Or the dates are incorrect. Fix by setting you're camera settings and using the adjust date/time command on the ones in your library

  • PhotoStream is not creating Events in iPhoto

Having set my iPhone and iPad and iMac to PhotoShare/ PhotoStream I'm having issues creating Events in iPhoto.  I like events.!
There are pics in PhotoStream that do not and will not appear in Events.  Why.? How.?  Frustrations.!!!

Okay, did all that.  No help.  The search did not turn up the most recent photo stream. Logged out of iCloud (pain in the a@# because I have documents stored there), turned off photo stream in iPhoto, logged back in, turned on again, and Photostream repopulated iPhoto in exactly the same way as before (i.e., no event--but photostream in the left nav column).  Only thing I noticed is a little wireless icon in the photos in photostream.  Here's a picture:
See the little wireless icon in the bottom left corner?  Here's another picture:
There is no Nov. photostream event.  WHY?????  Do I actually have to plug in my device?  I thought the purpose of Photostream was....

  • ICloud & Photostream: Not downloading or creating events on iPhoto

I asked this question in the iPhoto community, and was sent over here.  So here is the problem:
Photostream is not downloading photos to my mac. In iPhoto 11 version 9.4.2 (the latest) on my mac, the photos appear in the left nav bar under Photostream.  But when I go to events, there is an event called "November" with no photos in it. Running OSX 10.7.5 on my mac.  My iPhone is running iOS 6.0.1.  All Photostream sharing options on all devices are ON, and the automatic import box is checked.
The first suggestion offered was that I do a search for Photostream in iPhoto and see if the latest photostream showed up.  It did not.  The second suggestion was to turn off photostream in iPhoto, log out of iCloud, log back in again, let the photostream download to my mac and see what happened.  I did all that with the same results, i.e., there is no November event.  The photos won't download.  Both my iphone and my mac are on the same wireless network and both are working fine except for this.  Here are screenshots of the problem:
This is a display of the "photostream" feed under the RECENT category in iPhoto.  Note the little wireless icon in the bottom left corner of each photo.
Below is a display in iPhoto of the Nov. 2012 Photo Stream.  As you can see, nada.  Why won't the Photo Stream download to iPhoto?  Thank you!

    Hello tallbubba
Check in System Preferences > iCloud to ensure that Photo Stream is turned on to start the import process of importing the photos.

  • I have absolutely no use for "Events" in iPhoto: can I get rid of this concept? I am importing photos maybe one or a dozen times a day and cannot avoid creating a new event each time. Or can I?

As my long question implies (sorry, should have kept it shorter) I have a problem with being forced to have Events in my iPhoto'11 9.2.3 (629.52) on my MacBook 10.6.8. My habit is to unload the camera constantly, whether I have taken a single shot or a whole series. Each new addition creates an Event which actually bothers me!
Is there a way of avoiding this? If I erase an event from iPhoto the photos will disappear from the Library it seems ... Please help with your advice. Thanks! Sigrid.

    Thanks, OT!
When I look at my odd(?) habits of dealing with iPhoto anyone will see that I have a very simplistic approach: I never let one single Library get bigger than 300 or 400 photos, then back it up as is and make a separate, manual backup of the different albums as named by myself on an external HD. Then I delete the Library as such from my Mac but can reinstate it from the backups as I please. The backups are properly labelled, of course.
I get dizzy when I read about libraries of thousands of photos, of keywords, ratings, smart albums etc. because this just wouldn't apply to my so-called system. So instead of using Faces and Places, my album names show clearly what's in them - "skies and scenery" Euskadi, "bugs and birds at Fancourt", "inventories", "people" (separate for my circle of people and characters from media), "my dog" etc., usually a bunch of 20 albums or so depending on my whereabouts. Quite manageable!
I've been doing just fine with this method and would recommend it ... but others are much brighter ;-) and use the offered (and to me too advanced) features of iPhoto, if they prefer these. Now that I know how to get rid of Events by merging them into one, I at least feel a little freer there.
Well, it's 1:25AM my time, gotta go ...

  • How can I view my photos in "Events" like in iPhoto? How can I create events?  I have 55,000 photos and 1700 events so the only way I can possibly manage my photos is using events that are one slide in size.

I have 55,000 images organized into about 1700 events. The only reasonable way to view my library is using events in iPhoto where each event has one image That still leaves 1700 images to sort through but that is a lot easier than 55,000 images.  In the side bar is a folder with "iPhoto Events" but those views still show all of the slides.  How can I create events and view my photos as events as in iPhoto?  Events are critical for large libraries and has been my primary way to sort images.
    Thanks!

I had a problem a couple of months ago when iPhotos suddenly rearranged the order of my Events (Why won't iPhoto let me arrange my photos?) .  I was told "Use albums not events - events are not a good way to organize - albums and folder are designed for organisation and are very flexible".
Haha!  I should have paid attention and read between the lines!  My iPhotos were highly organised groupings - not according to date but the way I wanted them - and it was so easy to do!  I see now that if I had them all in albums, as per the Apple Apologist suggestion, I wouldn't have this unholy mess I have been left with just to make iPhone & iCloud users happy.  I am now going through Photos and making Albums (of what used to be in my Events)  ... maybe I'll get this finished before they do another non user friendly update!

  • I have over 50,000 photos. Events no longer show up. How do I create a new iPhoto folder like in the old days with iPhoto Manager?

I have over 50,000 photos in the current iPhoto Library. I need to download 3,000 more from trip to Spain. Can/should I make a new iPhoto Library? How do I do that?

    1) I had the same problem bedeviling me for over a month
(with the Apple Store people unable to figure out a solution!).
It turned out that the solution was exceedingly simple and easy:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/18554/why-isnt-iphoto-11-showing-an-eve nt-present-in-the-library
I have no idea how it happened, but like Asbjornu, "I had managed to sort the events "manually" (View > Sort Events > Manually) which hid the newly created events in-between my rather large amount of existing events. Sorting by date (View > Sort Events > By Date + Descending) shows my new events first in the list as they should."
I left out a huge whoop when this (simple) command solved everything.
    2) Yes, you can create another iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2505?viewlocale=en_US
To create a new photo library:
                               Quit iPhoto.
Hold down the Option key as you open iPhoto.
In the window that appears, click Create New.
Type a name and choose a location to store the new photo library.
                               Click Save.
Afterwards, iPhoto will sometimes ask which library you want to open.
    3) As far as the corrupted iPhoto is concerned,
trash or anything else, try rebuilding iPhoto (but
only after making a copy of your current iPhoto
library on an external disk, naturally).
Once the copy is made, close iPhoto, and
wait until you won't be using iPhoto or your computer for a long time
(like before you go to bed).  Close all other apps, or as many as possible,
and reopen iPhoto while holding down the Option and Command keys
at the same time.  Keep the buttons down until you get a page with a series
of half a dozen unmarked boxes or more, mark them ALL, launch rebuild,
and come back in the morning…

  • Unable to open the events in Iphoto or transfer photos to create a book?

Unable to open the events in Iphoto or transfer photos to create a book. The events are there but I am when double clicking they are not opening up. Also I am unable to drag photos to create a book. Any suggestions??

Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder Window should open with the file selected. Does it?

  • When importing iPhoto doesn't create events

When importing picutres to iphoto it used to create events, now it all goes into pictures and no events are created automatically nor do I have I option of create event manually. Please help

Right click on any photo in Photos and select 'Show Event' and you'll be brought to the Event containing the pic.
Events and Photos re both views of the same Library - think of them as different windows to the same room.
So if a photo is in Photos, then it's in Events too.
Usual reason for this is that the Event is not where you expect it to be - because you've a different sort or a the date is incorrect.

  • How do I stop iphoto from creating events automatically when I import photos from an external hard drive?

IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos and when I merge events and then go to finder>all images, I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....I try to delete the extra copies but then the albums or events also get affected, even if there is one copy of each photo left in all images...have someone had this problem?

You don't have a problem at all.
IPhoto is creating events automatically when I import photos
This is how iPhoto works. Every photo is in an Event. Events are the basic organisation of the Library. Every import means at least one new Event. Yes you can merge Events after import and so on, but there is at least one Event created at each import.
I see iphoto has created several copies of each picture....
No it hasn't. It hs created versions of the photos, not copies. There will be a couple of thumbnails  for viewing in the iPhoto Window plus the Master and then a edited version for pics that are modified. The icons for each of these may be similar but they are not copies - for a start they are different sizes - and all are required for iPhoto to work.
    go to finder>all images
Don't. This is simply a list of all the images on your computer. It makes no account or allowance for the purpose of these images. Really, if you're using iPhoto ignore this because if you
I try to delete the extra copies
Then you are trashing your Library.
So, this is how iPhoto works, there is no problem and stay away from All Images.

  • Iphoto, Creating events and Albums

I have attempted to create events and albums on the photo app in Ipad with no success. I have also synced the iPad to itunes and transfered pictures from an existing iphoto (macbook pro) event with no success. How can i create events and albums on the Ipad so i can seperate new pictures into specific areas for viewing.

You can't. Photos on the iPad doesn't have organising features. You can't create groupings, or copy from one event/whatever to another. You have limited features in the 'camera roll' for images you've saved onto the iPad - you can delete them or share them.
Your organising has to be done on the Mac in iPhoto or Aperture. Both create Events based on metadata from the image (date and time and so on). You can make albums and sync the albums to the iPad.
I know that isn't what you want, but it's all we've got. It bears repeating - the iPad is not a completely standalone device - it's dependent on a desktop and iTunes for its full functionality.

  • Why did my iPhoto stop creating events?

I need to find out why my iPhoto program no longer creates events.  It has created them for years upon uploading photos but then is suddenly stopped.  It stopped in August of last year (2014).  The photos are in my library but I no longer have the convenience of just going to a grouping of photos from an event.  Is this a glitch of some kind.  I have not found a setting that deals with this.
    Thanks!

There photos are in  Events. Every photo is in an Event.
If the Photos are under 'Last Import' or 'Last N Months' or Photos view, then they are in the Library somewhere, just not where you are expecting them to be. We know this as these are not places, just listings of elements in the the Library.
The two most common reasons that they can't be found is either an incorrect date on the camera or the Sorting (View Menu -> Sort Photos - or Sort Events, as appropriate) has changed.
Quick route to find them: Right-click on one of the images in Last Import and select 'Show Event'. This will bring you to the image in the Library.

  • IPhoto 9.4.1 no longer creates events

I imported a bunch of photos that I took from my iPhone to iPhoto, and they while they show up under iImports, they no longer show up under Events. I tried to create an event by selecting the photos and choosing Create Event, but the new event still doesn't show up. Anyone else notice this problem?

    They are there
Set the desired sort. View menu ==> sort events

I can see my thumbnails for my events in iphoto, but when I click to open the folder, no photos show up. However, when I hover over the thumbnail, it shows the flicker of images
that should be inside the folder, as well as # of images in each folder. It also occasionally says the following when I try to even open iphoto:  "Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete." So, I am scared to hit "upgrade" for fear I will never recover any of the images as the wording in this quote seems odd. The photos are not in the trash. Did I lose them all? Do you know if/how I can retrieve them?

    iPhoto 08?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Events in iPhoto show a purple tint for half a second when scrolling

After installing Mountain Lion my 27" iMac (May 2011) started showing events in iPhoto wahsed in a purple or reddish tint for less than half a second, when I scroll down or up quickly. Then they turn to their normal colors. Every time I scroll up or down rapidly, all new events appearing onscreen are tinted in purple, then become normal. The same happens with iTunes covers or when in Safari I zoom in by double tapping my Magic mouse. Seems to be connected with JPEG files being displayed abnormallyt for some reason.
I know this is not a major issue but it is bothersome and actually it should not happen.
    Can anyone help?
My iPhoto library contains 46.000 photos in 950 events.

When the event is clicked, it opens with the photos that I chose for the event.
So when you enter the event you can see the photos, right? Are you able to view the photos in the Photo mode?
Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I just purchased Aperture and have 20,000  photos in my iPhoto Library. Can I import only certain events from iPhoto into Aperture or do I have to merge the whole iPhoto library?

I just purchased Aperture and have 20,000 + photos in my iPhoto Library. I see that I can create a unified library between the two. I am wondering if I can import only certain events from iPhoto (like only 2014 events) into Aperture or do I have to merge the whole iPhoto library? Are there any benefits to bringing the whole iPhoto library over to Aperture (iPhoto is SO SLOW for me, I wonder if it is because I have so many photos). Or, any detriment to only bring a few events over?
And, if I don't merge the two libraries, I assume that means I cannot do it at a later date?
Help. My local Apple store has had very few Aperture workshops, and the next one is like 2 months away.

Thank you so much for this information. Here are some responses/comments:
Disk space - it says 114.43 GB out of 499.25 GB free. I have no idea if that is enough.
    iPhoto version is 9.5.1
Again, I am not sure how to know if I have 3rd party software...but I don't think I do. Is 3rd party software anything non-apple?
I will try rebuilding the library. if that doesn't help, maybe I need more memory...? That is what Apple suggested, but that, of course, means buying something else. I've already bought APERTURE, on their recommendation...
It wasn't, and they told me it was slow because I had too many photos for iPhoto to handle and that I should buy Aperture. Which I did.
What is your iPhoto version? Are you using the most recent version 9.5.1?
iPhoto can handle 20000 photos, no problem.  Your computer can be slow for several reasons:
The most common problem for slowness - insufficient disk space. Don't let your free disk space drop below 20 GB of free space, better more. If the operating system does not have enough working space and the applications you are using, you will notice a very lagging behaviour.
Older or incompatible softweare can cripple your mac. Do you have any older third-party software installed, that might have installed incompatible kernel extensions?
Aperture might be slow or keep crashing, if you imported a corrupted image or incompatible video,  that cannot be processed. Then Aperture will try over and over again to create previews and never succeed.  You could test for this situation, by launching Aperture with the Shift-key held down. This will defer the generation of previews. If Aperture will launch and work better this way, you probably have some bad media in your photo library.
Another problem to check for is a corruption of your Aperture/iPhoto library. You have run the First Aid Tools to repair the iPhoto Library, but have you ever tried to rebuild the library? See this post by Old Toad: Rebuild iPhoto Version 11
